You are very good at giving succinct instructions to other truckers. I am not a trucker, nor, at age 81, will I ever be one. In spite of that, your instruction and advice is so interesting that I thoroughly enjoy watching and listening. You also are innovative in your use of what you have on hand (i.e. the S hook) to solve problems.
Just another idea, What you could use instead of the bungie hooks, Is a smaller locking carabiner to place in each hole. That way you can unhook them in a matter of seconds. And you won't have to leave the one at the tail end of the trailer. This way you will be more versitile without having to unbind the hooks if need be. I use carabiners when I climb mountains and hiking with my pack. They come in various sizes. Hope this helps! Keep up the good work Dan, I thoroughly enjoy your video work.
You tarp wayyyyy too much!😂. Knowing that you work those high humidity areas makes me feel for you. Great advice for guys on the winches. I keep 5 pocket winches as well.
Thank you, this was a very informative video. Nice to see how things are done on the other side of Atlantic. Load securing equipment and trailers are very different from ours. Greetings from Finland.
Thank you I asked about tar-ping a load but that worked. I saw how you did the tarp and I was wondering how that went. I would like to see you do a load see how you start and finish a load unless it’s a trucker secret. I don’t want to be rude please I just started watching a couple of days ago. I really dig it. I grew up on the tv show moving on!!!! Back in the 70’s it was cool BJ and the Bear I personally thought that show sucked lol. The Rubber Duck convoy CW McCall. Really dating myself here. Well I like your posts and I’m a new fan!!! Thank you Dan
Dan, you crack me up sometimes, but you do explain IN DETAIL, what your gonna do, that’s for sure. Take care my friend, and be safe . HAVE A BLESSED DAY, WINNY IN PGH. Good video 👍
Not a bad idea of what you have then when your somewhere when you can get more tools and more items you can install something else to put in place of the hooks hell heck yeah man thanks for the video keep rolling be safe thansk for the videos
Hi Dan. Love your videos. I pull deck trls. also , tandem , tri-dem and super b in Manitoba Canada. Been driving for quite a few years ( 72 years old ) 55 years this summer. The old saying of , never to old to learn something new , is sure true here . Seeing what you did with the S hooks from bungees was really something. The company I drive for puts nut and bolt stoppers on our rails when they get a new trl. to stop the winches for us. One thing I noticed was your strap J hooks are sometimes outside your rub rails. Up here that's not legal , so wondered If it's o.k. in the states. Yours are the most interesting videos of trucking in an old guys opinion. Keep it up Dan. Thanks Wally
I have heard that the rules are different in Canada in reference to hooks on the rub rail. I do know that the way I attach the hook to the rub rail is legal here in the states. Thanks for watching
Nice learning a bit about flat beds. Retired Heavy Equipment Mechanic that somehow became a part time (3-4 days a week) tanker driver. Pretty good in the tanker game but lost on the other loads.
Hey Dan, I bought two new fontaine infinity trailers. One was a 2005 AX like yours and a 2006 AX. Both trailers only come with winches on the street side from the factory. If you look at the rail on the street side of the trailer you will see holes drilled in the winch track where they installed bolts with lock nuts to keep that from happening. But just as yours was done I took out my bolts as well. The problem was if you notice those holes was way back from the tire and made in impossible to strap that back without the ratchet strap which. So you were correct about the winch track being added later to the trailer.
Hi Dan , your videos are always very informative , you could easily be a professor , you have an abilily to explain things. Some questions about your trailer: - you mentioned it before , that you plan to paint it , is that still an option - if so , how much would it approximately cost , with sandblasting etc... - or would you paint it yourself , you have the skills , to save money - in the future , do you consider a 50 or 53ft trailer , to be more flexible with the loads - or is the 48ft trailer the perfect compromise Just some thoughts , i know you want to keep your costs down and a fancy trailer would not make more money by itself...
To have the trailer professionally sandblasted and painted would cost around $5000. Not too sure if I'm going to repaint. I'm really thinking about buying a used all aluminum trailer soon. I think 48 is the best option for short runs. I call the 48 the work horse of flatbeds Thanks for Watching
It could have always been worse... I saw the other video with the groove in the back tire, but live and learn... I think you had a great idea putting hooks in the rails, and like you said, you can always drill and tap it for a bolt if needed later on.... Was a great winch lesson and also goes to show, no matter how much experience you have, if something can go wrong it will.... thumbs up on all your videos, thanks for taking us with you and the time it takes to make a video..... Wishing you good loads and safe driving Dan...... BTW, did you shelf the cow glasses? I was just getting used to them, LOL.......
hope you're using oil on the drill bit while drilling in metal. prevents the loud squeal noise, and saves the point a little longer. unless you're rich, then you can just buy new bits, lol
Ok I have a question or maybe more than one lol. I watched a vid on a tractor for sale and he said it was a perfect tractor for a flat bed running? What did he mean isn’t all tractors the same? Except trans and horse power? What’s the best for each? Running a refer? Dry van? Drop deck? It’s a lot I just want to learn the terms and learn the rules on the tractors!! Lol Thanks Dan
Super trucker Dan I might be a little off on saying this but I'm curious is to why you don't keep them in the lock box when you're not using them altogether and then you don't have to worry about them sliding up and down the tracks at all just saying too okay bs and bc out there too
Reading the comments that might be something to show is how you wind up your straps. I didn't know how they did it till I saw a guy after his flatbed was unloaded wind them up.
Could you not turn the drivers side winch around? That way you have one on back? Also if you put bolts thorough your drilled holes. You can hit the end sticking out past the nut. Mushrooming the end of the bolt. That way if the nut tried to come off. It cant drop off.
Hello, I just started trucking and I knew I wanted to Flatbed so I just started with Melton. I'm loving everything about the job so far. My main reason for getting into this is to go owner op, would 6 months or a year be a good time to start buying a truck? I already have money saved for a down payment, it's just a matter of learning when I should go on my own. What do you think? I not too dumb and have been issnvolved in business currently and in the past. Thanks.
I would give yourself a year to learn the ropes. Just treat your company truck like it was your own truck. Watch and learn the freight lanes. Figure out what your good at hauling and like hauling. Good luck Thanks for Watching
@@SuperTruckerdan Great advice to Handy Man, Dan! And I think this young man will listen to you; you've earned respect from everyone who watches your vids and sees how you handle things, day in - day out. Congrats!
You've already saved the down payment for a truck and you've just started??? That must put you in the top 1/2 of 1% of O/O right there! So, unless you are thinking it's a $500 down, you are well on your way, Handy Man. Much good luck to you!
Dan if you'd used small padlocks you could remove them easily if you needed to move your back winch ever and as securement so no one pinches your winches
