I just made farro for the first time and it was amazing! I did a sweet version, with one cup of water and one and a half cups of cashew milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, a drizzle of agave nectar, some raisins and topped with dark chocolate shavings. Will definitely be trying out different recipes
We ave a Farmers market every Wednesday in front of my job. So whatever is available I use and make a large salad for the staff. Last week I made the salad featured in this video. I used Tuscan kale and added tiny mozzarello balls. EVERYONE WENT CRAZY!!! It was such a hit I am still getting compliments and request for a repeat performance!!
Hello Dani....Loved the video. I'm an African American (black dude LOL) and I've recently lost almost 90 pounds on weight watchers! We recently had a receipt that called for FARRO! I was sure I could find it at my WHOLE FOODS STORE here in Maryland but I couldn't! So I settled for it's cousin so to speak RED HARD WHEAT BERRIES....I've never tried either one but to stay on plan I will try the wheat berries first until I find that elusive FARRO LOL! Great video.....this really all started because the receipt called for FRESH SALSA which I like and it was mixed with the FARRO!!!! Thanks.......
i toast mine in a tsp olive oil, than seperate i fried up a little onion, garlic, mushrooms and a little tumeric salt and pepper, than added my homemade veg broth to cook the farrow, once cooked i added the veggies! soooooo good. Thank you for the storage tips and everything that you share daily!
I have used farro in soups and salads but the most interesting thing that I have used farro for is a replacement for bread crumbs. I grind the farro up in a small blender and added to say, a meatball mix, as my bread crumbs. You don't need to use quite as much as you would breadcrumbs because it will soak up the juices. Use about one-third to one-half less.
From Trinidad, West Indies. I had discovered farro by mistake in a gourmet food shore. I drizzle olive oil in the pan, add galic, cayenne pepper, a cinnamon stick, cilantro, chives and throw in the farro, mushrooms and roasted silvered almonds which i had cooked before...love it
As someone with a Caibbean background I make Farro and Peas using kidney, pgeon or pinto beans. Prepared the same way except instead of rice, I use farro!!
@@JusFaithelz i just watched it & i think she just gave this info in the video. take care & be safe. My bag just says FARRO, & no cooking directions , i got it from amazon .ca
I've never heard of farro. My wife came home with a bag today, said she bought it on a wim. Your video was very informative & I can't wait to try it! Thank you.
I love this video. I did not know anything about farro except for the fact that its an ancient grain. I had bought it at Trader Joe's years ago and loved it but did not know any recipes for it. I tried your kale sardine farro salad which I LOVE .
I tried making Farro, I like it very much! I'm so appreciative of Dani's information and quick video's on the 101- I'm new to much of this! Her video's make it all possible for me to try these new grains, I'm very thankful for her posts!! Thank you Dani! 💕💕😊😊
I tried Farro for the very first time yesterday. I cooked it with my rice cooker with some whole wheat rice. It was super yummy! I would do it again. :) The family also loved it.
I'm in Canada and the first time I went looking for farro (at an Italian specialty market), they gave me what turned out to be spelt - close but not quite the same. The Bob's Red Mill brand now sells the traditional non-pearled farro, so that is what I have been using. I loved the salad idea that was in your video, and as I have been trying to incorporate more fish into my diet, the addition of sardines was really good timing :) Thank you for your very helpful and interesting videos, Dani. They are among the best that I have seen on YouTue.
Dani, Thanks for farro 101. "Bob's Red Mill" has bags of farro with ingredients listed as Organic Farro. Not very clear to me which type of farro I purchased. However, cooking directions are: 1. rinse 1 cup farro...add 3 cups water...cook 30 minutes...(or) 2. cover 1 cup farro w/water...soak in refrigerator overnight...drain...add 3 cups water/stock...bring to boil...reduce heat to med-low...simmer 10 minutes. Can't wait to try this as a substitute in some of my recipes calling for rice. Thanks again, Linda
I had Farro once and loved it ! I found it at Trader joes ! It’s the Pearl farro which cooks fast . I finally had to face the music to my high cholesterol and borderline A1c so I need to really be on diet and watch what I eat. Now I thought a farro right away. Maybe it can replace my love for white rice 😅 Thanks so much for the recipes ! I am gonna try !
Thank you so much for sharing this video cause I purchased some by accident and didn't know what to do with it but now I know how to cook it and enjoy it.
I cooked my farro in a rice cooker with chicken stock (veggie stock if youre vegan). While it was cooking i roasted red, yellow and orange bell peppers along w asparagus. Once farro was done and veggies all roasted i chopped up all roasted veggies and comvined everything in a bowl. While everything was hot I threw some sun dried tomatoes (in olive oil) in. Flavored it with s&p and some fine ghost chili powder. Served with with some sous vide lamb chops. Delicious !!!!!
Hi Dani...I love your channel...I am from Mexico and I have tried many of your recipes...all are so good and tasty!!! I bought farro today at my grocery store so I will be making it soon...THANK YOU!!!
I'm glad I googled and found this. Thank you. I loved that. I'm going to buy Farro. Gluten doesn't seem to be good for me but I'll try it because it's good for my belly fat weight loss. 👍🏾
Brought some farro home yesterday, so I found your video. I'm going to soak it overnight and try sprouting some first. Thanks for your great video, clearly presented without wasting our time 💛.

I purchased a 40lb bag from Bluebird Farms in Oregon. It is the whole Emmer wheat grain. I have never gotten any cooking method to produce anything other than a dense, chewy product. Pressure cooker same result. Latest attempt is in rice cooker, 5 to 1 water to grain with 6hr soak. I will know this evening. Plopped in a whole head of garlic with salt and pepper.
I steam sweet potato and kale. Then make a salad with the veggies above, farro, and add a handful of chopped pecans and dried cranberries and mix. Then drizzle a oil free dressing made with orange juice, maple syrup, Dijon mustard and apple cider vinegar. My favourite salad 😋
I never heard of this wheat before. I'm cooking some tonight. It sounds really good. I guess when cooked properly, it's almost like a rice in resotto. Tender, al dente.
I got whole grain Farro from Amazon all it said on the bag was add 1 c farro per 3 cups of water. Boil 30 minutes and drain. It came out really good :)

Great Video! Two questions: (1) Can one freeze ferro similar to brown rice? (2) Do sardines form part of the clean and delicious diet? Thanks!
Yes - you can freeze it just like you would brown rice. And 100% sardines would be great addition to a clean and delicious diet - super nutritious, lots of protein and heart healthy omega 3's.
