The only time anyone would be offended by Don is if he DIDN’T insult them! No malice, no ridiculous politics, just quick wit and endless laughs, a true master of real comedy!
Don Rickles said to Sinatra, "Frank, I'm going to be meeting a very beautiful girl for dinner downstairs and I want to make out with her. Would you come over to the table and introduce yourself?" So before he goes on to perform, Sinatra goes down to the restaurant where Rickles is with the girl. He walks over to the table to introduce himself, and Don says, "What's The Matter, Frank? Can't You See I'm Busy?!!" Frank told this story on a Dean Martin Roast program, when either he or Don was the one being roasted by the other crew of big celebrity guests.
Sinatra didn't tell it on his roast. He said it on Carson though with Don being there. The story is Don was over at a fancy restaurant with his date. She spots Frank Sinatra. "Do you think you can introduce me to him?" He says, "Are you kidding? Personal friend of mine!" So Don went over. "Frank. I'm sitting with a very pretty girl. I'm trying to make out. If you could say Hi to me, I'm set. But don't come over right away!" He said, "You got it!" The violins already made the romantic atmosphere. Frank came over from the bathroom. "Don. How are you?" Don got up, "FRANK! FOR GOD'S SAKES!! CAN'T YOU SEE I'M WITH PEOPLE?? HOW DO I KNOW IF YOUR ALBUM IS GONNA SELL?? LEAVE ME ALONE!!!" Frank and the lady were shocked by the whole thing. He sent for the security guards to carry Don over their heads and out of the place.
21:22, when he says to Mr. T. "listen for a clock," he's referring to a time bomb. Even though Rickles was known as an insult comic, you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who had a bad word to say about him. At the end of every one of his shows he had a speech he would give explaining how it was all in good fun and he holds no animosity toward anyone. RIP, Don.
He was in Eastwood film in the 60's and hung out with mobsters in Vegas in the 50' 60's. He was in the movie Casino and actually lived in the era and the life. Everybody loved him and it was a compliment if you were gooned by him.
10:23 I remember as a kid falling asleep on the couch with the TV on and waking up in the midnight of the night and it was just the national anthem on repeat til morning.
He wasnt offensive! The people went to be roasted by him! Grew up in the 70's and 80's watching him and Dangerfield. Different time. Miss those days when people didnt get triggered over things. We could all laugh at each other -and ourselves - in all good fun.
We all just laughed in those days. It is an absolute shame what snowflakes have done to society in general and comedy in particular. I'm of Italian ancestry and some of the best laughs I've ever heard are jokes about Italians. If you can't laugh at comedy there is something radically wrong.
I am impressed by your love of moxy. The unmitigated gaul of the bold. I have a quote; "There are bold pilots and there are old pilots. But there are very few of us old bold pilots." I love your ability to laugh so easily, it means you have found your balance in life. I commend you, one must look closely to find balance. 👍
Don Rickles right out the gate. It's a shame people get too offended now. Comedy hits everyone, as it should be. Just fucking laugh, people and enjoy it.
We used to watch the Dean Martin Celebrity Roast every chance we got. I was fortunate enough to grow up being entertained by Don. He also served in the Navy during WWII as a Seaman First Class on the USS Cyrene in the Pacific campaign. The guy you pointed out was McLean Stevenson. (chicken fat with a part) He played Lt. Colonel Henry Blake on M*A*S*H.
I see you had a reaction when Clint Eastwood appeared With Don insulting him. Don Mentioned "Kelly's Heros", for it was a movie that they did together. It was a good movie you should check out. For also, in it, was Telly Savalas, Carroll O'Connor, Donald Sutherland, Gavin MacLeod, Stuart Margolin, all who gave good performances as well. It was a 1970 war comedy film directed by Brian G. Hutton. But the comedy was more like real life comedy. So, it was more like a serious action-adventure movie with comical moments. And at the end part of the movie, there is a spoof of Clint's movie, "the Good, the Bad and the Ugly". I really think there is a good chance you will like it. If I have judged your personality right.
that was offensive comedy that was really funny! seems to me that confronting racial opinions was VERY progressive. Rickles was fearless. Thank you for this reaction, MMB.
I always like to say, it's funny if it's a joke. Everybody he insulted, knew that it was a joke.To the point that it was an honor to be the target of one of his jokes. And he included himself in the jokes. It's great to have younger people exposed to this type of humor. I enjoy your reactions and am glad you're exploring humor now In reality he loved everyone and was equally loved
Don Rickles also played the neighbor of Bernie Mac on The Bernie Mac Show, Bernie was putting trash into Don's trash can, and don opened his front door and said "go do your grocery shopping somewhere else".
I believe that you were referring to the word, “eponymous”. It is a reference to something with the same name, word, or title. Don Rickles starred in the 1970s NBC comedy series, “C.P.O. Sharkey”, portraying the eponymous title character. C.P.O. is shorthand for Chief Petty Officer. In the US Navy, it is an equivalent rank to a Sergeant in the US Army or US Marine Corps. “C.P.O. Sharkey” was a comedic look at an “old-school” non-commissioned officer, who was dealing with the changes taking place in the US Navy that were taking place during the Ford and Carter Administrations.
In "Kelly's Heroes," 1970 Rickles played a character by the name of Crapgame." Telly Savalas as Big Joe told Crapgame, "The only time you come out of the woodwork is when you smell a profit."
You nailed it. We all used to laugh together before we were broke into tribes. I grew up in the midwest in a small town... my neighborhood kids group of friends was a mix of Wasp, Mexican, Black , Puerto Rican .... the hardest we would ever laugh was when we had start doing the ethnic jokes... it bonded us to this day.
Good reaction. FYI - that guy in the audience that you thought you recognized around the 12:48 mark was McLean Stevenson of M.A.S.H fame. Next to him in the audience was comedian Tim Conway from the Carol Burnett Show and DORF fame. Many stars watched Rickles perform because they were big fans. It was an honor being insulted by Don Rickles.
My favorite, of many of Don's moments, was when Frank was being roasted and Don said, from what my poor memory will remember: Come in Frank. Make yourself at home. You know: punch someone. He'd also guest hosted The Tonight Show when Johnny Carson was the host. There was an infamous cigarette holder that Don broke and when Johnny found out, he went to where Don was filming McHale's Navy and raised hell with him (probably just for fun). When Johnny would have Burt Reynolds on, it would always devolve into uncontrollable laughing. These roasts were when it wasn't mean and fun spirited. (And check out Kelly's Hero's to see what you think.)
heh, The episode where Rickles came out while Carson was interviewing Sinatra, and Rickles did his "Guido" shitck - "...Mauco Magananzo was hurt, etc." The date on that episode was 11.12.76 . It's on YT.
Actually, Don loved his victims and they loved him. It was an honor to be insulted by Don. You know the guy who stood up and told Don, "You say spade one more time and there'll be troops in front of your door tomorrow."? That was comedian Nipsy Russell. There's another video online of Nipsy roasting Don. In those days, there was a fun back and forth among all these big stars. It was so much fun to watch, and they were all friends. By the way, you said you recognized the one guy in the audience. I think you were talking about McLean Stevenson, who was the original mand in charge on the TV series, Mash. He was Colonel Henry Blake.
That was McLean Stephenson of the Mash popular TV series in the audience…..as he was picked on with the joke….never saw chicken fat in the part of the hair….
Love the reaction!! When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Matthew 9:36
Rickles' humor was ice-breaking love after the civil rights era, when all "races" were getting together. The current sensitivity/censorship was politically driven to PREVENT us from unifying and also allowing "hate speech" to become a criminal offense, making us all slaves. I saw it all happen.
You need to understand that people who get "Offended" are not really offended but by pretending to be offended they claim to be superior and OWED something. ITs just a tool for them trying to get something for nothing.
I agree with what you said about comedy back in the day. Back then people didn't take themselves so seriously and actually had a sense of humor, unlike today. It was a less uptight generation and there was a lot more acceptance of each other then. Agree 💯. Just subbed 👍
People get offended if you breath the wrong way. A joke use to start out like,... a man walked into a bar.., NOW, IT STARTS OUT LIKE, "..., A PERSON .., END OF JOKE. What the Hell!!: realy!!!
Hi and thank you for sharing 1👍 Don Rickles use what is called "the shortcut circuit" method, making a kind of mind bug, at least till the 80's before he was widely known, an exemple of unexpected mind bug is Yoda reversed tences, a good way to break any programation and change your usual perspective you are used with....! Smart and horizons opening to the way of thinking things around us... Thank-you 👍
In case you wonder and I'm sure it's already been said here, but the little black kid that'll never play basketball was a kid by the name of Emmanuel. Lewis, who played webster on a tv show called webster
This was back when comedy was seen as Comedy. No one needed Thier nose wiped back then. Sanford And Son, Jeffersons, Good times, Archie Bunker, Don Rickles. We are the last generation that's not soft. 😂😂❤❤ I Love Everyone.
sounds like you have a great grasp of what it was like to be 1970s. It was a great time to be alive. They knew how to make fun of the times and themselves
Don Rickles didn't spare anyone but everyone loved him. It was considered an honor to be insulted by Don. Off stage he was known as Mr. Warmth because he was so nice. Plus everyone knew he didn't actually believe any of that. 😂 You should really watch some of the Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts. All of them could be vicious at the podium but hug later.
you shoud watch a full episode of Dean Martins Celeberty Roast mny of the clips here are from that show My favorites bing the oast of Frank Sinatraand another that of Dean himself nd as usual Don steals the show
Even Don's racial jokes were not offended by who ever he's directing them to saying that to Mr. T is like saying that to Mike Tyson Mike tyson won't care but we all know what Mike tyson can so if you silent him
You are correct. Don said he asked Frank to stop by his table because he was out on a date. When Frank came over he said Frank go away can't you see I'm on a date
He was outrageous and insulted EVERYONE! But he did it without hate. And people said he was the nicest guy in the world. One of a kind. RIP Don!
The only time anyone would be offended by Don is if he DIDN’T insult them! No malice, no ridiculous politics, just quick wit and endless laughs, a true master of real comedy!
You don't know what he actually thought.
People wanted to be insulted by Don Rickles .. it was an honor to be recognized by him.
Yeah seen loads of the Classic OG actors say it lol
I saw him in Vegas. He sent champagne to all the people he had picked on. He was a very sweet man
Don Rickles said to Sinatra, "Frank, I'm going to be meeting a very beautiful girl for dinner downstairs and I want to make out with her. Would you come over to the table and introduce yourself?" @@NoOne-kr4jc Facts! He mentioned it on Letterman, and Carson. But never on the Dean Martin Roasts.
He said, "Can't you see I'm eating?"
Butchered TF out of that story
21:22, when he says to Mr. T. "listen for a clock," he's referring to a time bomb.

Thank you very much for the explanation! I never understood the meaning of that comment from Don 👍
Thank you for being so cool, and rising above all the noise that so many your age are wrapped up in.
Rickles is legend. He never did his humor with hatred or profanity, and he made everyone, including HIMSELF, fair game. A classic!
You said it correctly. People can't get offended. If it's funny, you gotta laugh.
He was in Eastwood film in the 60's and hung out with mobsters in Vegas in the 50' 60's. He was in the movie Casino and actually lived in the era and the life. Everybody loved him and it was a compliment if you were gooned by him.
His roasting of Robert De Niro behind the scenes was epic. Robert was fake outraged but it made even the cast and crew die.
Kelly's Heroes
Laughter is the best medicine . may it echo thru out the land !
Props to Don for helping Billy, Whoopie, and Robin with the Comic Relief project.
Joan Rivers is the female version of this kind of comedy. Saw her in Vagas, very funny.
I got to grow up with this and it was great! They all having fun!
Amazing that as one of comedy's GOAT's he rarely told a joke. His schtick was gold.
10:23 I remember as a kid falling asleep on the couch with the TV on and waking up in the midnight of the night and it was just the national anthem on repeat til morning.

Don rickles had a very long career he's one of those comedians people know about but most young reactors have never seen his stand up

Exactly. Done right, it shows the stupidity of actual racism
He’s actually very funny. He doesn’t bust on different races, he busts on social stereotypes like mocking it.
"This man was married to a great many women in his life. They're all FLAT now." (speaking of 300-pound Orson Welles)
Orson Welles was married to Rita Hayworth!

I never saw that episode and I loved that show!
He was so over the top, you couldn't take it seriously, his Moniker was 'Mr Warmth!'
I used to cook for Don all the time and wed joke, He was so nice in person,

Yes, Don Rickles set up Frank Sinatra with that prank. It was on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson where that clip came from.
Abbott and Costello "Susquehanna Hat Company on Bagel Street."

The point lost on most people in this video is how much Mr. T was dying laughing
Yeah, that was when stuff was really funny😂😂

You should react to Foster Brooks roasting Don Rickles. It is soooooo funny.
Behind the scenes Mr. Rickles was the sweetest Man,, CLASS, sincere & yes up front.
Mr Potatohead on Toy Story
Rickles career reached a point where people wanted to be insulted by him it was a badge of honor
Paul Lind could take a joke he would fit in today's world if he can take it
Definitely look up Foster Brooks. He's a classic. Hilarious.
Freedom of speech was a wonderful thing when we had it. So was laughter.
Thanks.Great Reaction,My Friend:)
Love the reaction!! When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
Matthew 9:36
It's amazing that 'Mr. Personality' could make the jokes he did - and have it still be funny. That's a unique capability.
Cancel cancel culture = don rickles
It's just comedy...jokes. Ya just gotta be bigger than that and laugh.
That was the comedy that brought us together! Proof we were better before NOW
When you said, "wait a minute, I know that guy". Yep, that was actor McClean Stevensen from MASH.
Rickles' humor was ice-breaking love after the civil rights era, when all "races" were getting together. The current sensitivity/censorship was politically driven to PREVENT us from unifying and also allowing "hate speech" to become a criminal offense, making us all slaves. I saw it all happen.
Don rickles was the last living rat pack member
Your right it will never go back to that. I grew up watching him. It just shows you that you don't have to curse to be a comedian.
Subscribed! You deserve it!
YAAHNOOO AHH MESSUP DIZZ WORD AWWDAHH TAHMM. GOSH THIS IS WONDERFUL.
You need to understand that people who get "Offended" are not really offended but by pretending to be offended they claim to be superior and OWED something. ITs just a tool for them trying to get something for nothing.
One of the most brutal takedowns ever by a habitual line stepper. 24:25 👀😂

You really need to react to the Man of the Hour roast of Sammy Davis Jr. It is ridiculously funny! There’s a few clips from it in this video.
People get offended if you breath the wrong way. A joke use to start out like,... a man walked into a bar.., NOW, IT STARTS OUT LIKE, "..., A PERSON .., END OF JOKE. What the Hell!!: realy!!!
I love this kind of comedy.
It's why I love comedians from other countries.
Jimmy Carr
Frankie Boyle
The snowflakes could never handle don rickles
I like the fact that you do your research , and get some background info on whatever it is you're reacting to.

Good job, man.
Next up; Rodney Dangerfield.
I’m a huge fan! He was Perfect in Casino.
In case you wonder and I'm sure it's already been said here, but the little black kid that'll never play basketball was a kid by the name of Emmanuel. Lewis, who played webster on a tv show called webster
The newer generations know him as Mr potato head on toy story
He was brutal but always closed with a message of love and unity - the video didn't show those sincere moments.
This was back when comedy was seen as Comedy. No one needed Thier nose wiped back then. Sanford And Son, Jeffersons, Good times, Archie Bunker, Don Rickles. We are the last generation that's not soft. 😂😂❤❤ I Love Everyone.
Frank sinatra tild the joke while don rickles was sitting near him in a late night show
Being insulted by Rickels was high praise.
Exactly how you should laugh. And you are right about modern day
sounds like you have a great grasp of what it was like to be 1970s. It was a great time to be alive. They knew how to make fun of the times and themselves
He was in the movie Casino
Sammy was really close friend with him.
He was a floor boss in the movie Casino
Don Rickles didn't spare anyone but everyone loved him. It was considered an honor to be insulted by Don. Off stage he was known as Mr. Warmth because he was so nice. Plus everyone knew he didn't actually believe any of that. 😂

Best ever!
It was on the Johnny Carson show he told that joke.
20:47 How did Jimmy can I get that show? By going to those Diddy parties that’s how!
you shoud watch a full episode of Dean Martins Celeberty Roast mny of the clips here are from that show My favorites bing the oast of Frank Sinatraand another that of Dean himself nd as usual Don steals the show
I understand younger people might be offended but it was a character Don was doing and the technique is called crowd work.
That guy in the audience he made the joke chicken fat with a part?
Looks like MacLean Stevenson from MASH.
Even Don's racial jokes were not offended by who ever he's directing them to saying that to Mr. T is like saying that to Mike Tyson Mike tyson won't care but we all know what Mike tyson can so if you silent him
This is what Dave chappelle does And in this day and age he tiptoes (very nicely) Compared to Rickles....He had full throttle
Don Rickles wasnt prejudice he made fun of every race including himself
If you like Don you would like Phyllis Diller and Bob Newhart
Yes!!
Abbot and costello dice is a must routine, and litterally anything from their show
You are correct. Don said he asked Frank to stop by his table because he was out on a date. When Frank came over he said Frank go away can't you see I'm on a date
yes it was him, he asked Frank to come over to impress the woman.First time I met Frank He took my dinner.
The frank Sinatra story comes from a roast
I miss the days when people had a sense of humor and didn't get offended every time the wind blew!
We have to laugh at ourselves. We all have a stereo type.
The guy you recognized was McLean Stevenson from M.A.S.H.
