I like how the narrator says here you can see on the small press,, I know a few engineers who would gladly part with his first born for that press, she’s a beauty.. anyone know what it is?
Good observation. It is a KR Wilson 75 ton press. I am currently rebuilding a 60 ton version that is virtually identical to this one. I am convinced that they are the best hand-pump press ever designed. The handwheel allows the ram to be positioned quickly or can be used as an arbor press. The hydraulic pump is two speed. All the hydraulics are simple ball and spring check valves for control. Very simple and still working after 75 years and even with 1 inch of oil sludge in the bottom of the reservoir. I replaced two seals on the pump shafts since the originals were leaking slightly. Everything else just needs bead blast cleaning and refinishing.
Bruce Blyton it sounds fantastic, I love the fact that it can be dismantled, checked for any wear, repair and rebuild with little more than a cantilever toolbox 🧰 with a good set of spanner’s, Allen keys, screwdriver, a persuader and measurement equipment for such a task. Can the same be said for an 5 yrs old CNC that’s been abused more times than a prostitute from a local red light district. If the CNC had an inch of sludge in the reservoir it would be in a right dilemma, with certain parts only available from the the dealer, who would guarantee to spank you of all your hard earned cash! I’ll have to keep my eyes open ta similar press Bruce, thanks for showing us this great gem of yours...... Phil
I love these old timey American manufacturing videos.
Golden video i tell you
Remember that the rubber pad will consume 50% of your tonnage.
I wonder what material the form block is
Usually a hard wood like hickory makes really good form blocks that last a long time
?
After the first few parts, I would really be looking for an electric pump!
