Set your tire on top of your sandbag and you won't have to fight it moving around. The tire is a neat idea!
Very cool! Been doing this for 47 years and I'm still learning new tricks! It's like a big tucking bowl that I don't have to make and with extra depth. Thank you very much for posting this, I will be incorporating this! I subbed to your channel😁
Thanks bro! I appreciate the support!!
@@BeAMetalFabricator you are most welcome, and thank you again for your tire technique, absolutely brilliant!
Sometimes basic tools and devices can yield better results...as you have shown👍👍👍
This is true!
Thank you for sharing your talents
I'm glad you liked it bro
There is ALWAYS a better way. You have a great idea. Instant subscriber.
Thanks for the sub bro!
I probably have a couple of those laying around my garage! You have a talent for making things understandable. Outstanding!
Thanks for the compliment dude! Sometimes I wonder if I am communicating efficiently
Now weld that old metal wheel, that you cut out, to the table to keep the tire from moving!
Try putting the tyre on the sandbag maybe? would stop it moving around.
Yeah that actually did help a little bit
Great idea! That works very well and your explanation of the process of shaping the metal is very helpful. Thanks for sharing this tip!
Absolutely!
Great idea. I use the bottom of a gas cylinder, same effect. I have the same shot bag and have the same problem slicing into it, but I never thought of using a patch👌. Greta idea on the tucking machine too.
Thanks man! yeah I just jb welded pieces of an old glove to it and it works really well!
Awesome, I really like your videos and how there is no nonsense waffle etc.
I'll stick with a dishing stump that's lower to the ground, but definitely like the tyre idea! you could probably mount it to a base that you can clamp down to the table, and fill the centre with something to give you the control you need.
The best thing I can see with those tires is that your spontaneous tucks are more uniform and even when you're laying down a tuck it doesn't try and walk away on you
Exactly!
Very cool idea. I can do this. Thanks for posting.
Thanks Scott! 💯
I use 5 or 6 layers of old carpet in a shallow cardboard box…works great for me
That was a great tip and another tool in my toolbox.....Had to subscribe
Awesome! thanks for the sub!
That is an interesting idea.
Nice..super easy but yet so effective..thanks for sharing...love to watch your video's..please keep them coming!
Thanks dude I'm glad you like my videos!!!
It's a little low for constant use, but in a pinch when you need one to fix a damaged fender or something, I've used a soft spot in the grass in my back yard.
Haha I've also used the grass to knock a dent out of a truck bumper for my grandpa one time!
Nice idea.... I sewed my shot bag! It is impossible to find one in Greece.... Keep posting!
I just jb welded pieces of an old glove to it haha thanks for watching brother
It looks like a non-pnumatic tire. Are they both easy to come by & cheap? Tree stumps have been used. You might have to re-arc the concave depression after much use &/or for different shapes. Possibly a 3-4 foot piece of tree trunk of the hardest wood u can get would suffice. Or a few feet of 2 x 4s, 4 x 4s, etc. glued/nailed together. You may find free or super cheap scraps. Be inventive.
Or you can just use a full rubber tire for ten bucks lol of course, wood stumps have been used forever dude this is just something new and innovative. Think outside the box
great video thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
Went right out and bought those tires today. Incredible. Worked awesome. Great idea.
Hell yeah dude! glad I can help!
Innovation at its finest! Thanks for posting.
thank you!
Thank you for the info. Really enjoying the content and tips. Would you be willing do video on planishing?
I would absolutely be willing to do a video on planishing! Although I do have a few videos that show some planishing you might like!
I wonder if you could put an inner tube inside the tire, filled with sand, or maybe steel shot? That makes it heavier, and maybe a bit more "dead blow"?
That's a good idea, I did think of that and I would imagine it would work great!
2 questions. What if you lay the tires on the bag and try it?? #2 what if you use the use the delren hammer head on the the stacks of rubber mat form the tucks then beat them in the rubber tire to speed up the shaping.
I could put the tire on the sandbag that would work great!
did you just discover a new technique for tuck shrinking? pretty dang cool, bud.
Thanks man I appreciate the kind words!
Brilliant idea! I don’t think I would have ever thought of it myself.
Thank you!!
Dude! I can literally throw out my stump now! This tool rocks!! Also, No worry about the hazards of the dust from the sand which is an issue with some sand types.
Sit the tyre on your sandbag...?
Nice! Brilliant! You’re hired!
Thanks! Nice! send paycheck 😂
Isn't that's why people use old tree stumps with different size bowls cut in them?
Yeah pretty much. Tree stumps are also big and if your running out of space like me, this is a good alternative
I’m new to body work restoring my car. Great information.
Glad to help!
If I had a bit of pourable urethane laying around I'd fill the void left by taking the rim out.
Take your bag to a upholstery shop let them cover it with leather your good
Good idea! I didn't think of that. I have a good upholsterer!
Great idea as an option! Good video but I love the hammer, who is the manufacturer? Please let me know, thanks
Thanks man the hammer is made by Wray Shelin at pro shaper
@BeAMetalFabricator Thanks, I've watched some of his videos but don't remember it. I'll go on his site. Thanks for responding
I'm sure everyone is yelling put the tire on the bag !!
Hahaha yes they are but sometimes you gotta do things to get people to comment😂😂😂 it helps push the video😎👉
Good idea! Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely!
I have used tire inner tubes filled with sand or sand blast material you can adjust how much sand you use to be able to control how firm they are I used wire to tie them closed could make two or three out of each car or truck sized tube . They last a long time . Great video as usual. Thanks TUBAL
Great idea! Thanks for watching brother!
I like the idea of using the tire as a tool. I definitely believe in thinking outside the box. It gives you the results you want - and apparently 9:17 faster. Correct me if I’m wrong but it strikes me that the sandbag actually *stretches* the middle more thus requiring less shrinking around the outside. Just pointing this out in case it matters. In most cases it probably doesn’t as long as you get the shape you want. Also, this is great for a round part while the bag might be better when making an oblong shape - so don’t throw out the sandbag.
yeah dont get me wrong the leather shot bag works perfectly, I guess the tire works more like a stump. thanks for watching!
Great idea! Guess ill be heading to my local tractor supply. Should be a great addition to my setup, thank you
nice! I hope it works out for you
Try putting the tire on top of the bag. Stays put.
Good idea!
Now I gotta do this and I don't even do metal shaping. Well a little bit just screwing around, I have made a shrinking stump and some wooden mallets.
try it man! im sure you can do it!
I can see in your technique that you have taken some pro shaper classes with with Wray, very interesting use of a tire I have to try it , I think your tucking tool needs something to soften the edge, so it doesn’t mar the metal keep up the great work
Yes I learned a lot from Wray! I consider him a friend! Also I use the same plastic material on the dies that Wray uses on his, its that polymorph, I just haven't put it on yet, I think I'm going to cut the dies off and make a different tool out of it, like a press hammer I'm going to try out. thanks for watching man!
Have you tried a wooden block? I find it best to use it on the endgrain. I hit it so it makes a suitable dent in the wood and when it is to damaged I find a new one. I like best the softer wood.
yeah I have definitely used wood blocks before, they work great!
I have used thick 2 inch rubber and used a hole saw to different sizes. The rubber i used is soft then those tires it seems to move the metal faster and doesn't move across the table
Haha nice dude glad I could help
I got a sand bag but now that I seen this I guess I be putting new tires on my riding mower so I can use the used tires off of it on my stump!
Haha nice!
Can also use a blocking log,a large timber log with a dish carved out of the top
yeah I could... that's what people have been using for many years, this is just a different way to skin a cat
Put the tire on the sand bag silly
😂😂
I'd put the tyre on the sandbag
good idea!
Thanks
I see this video right after i oredered a new bag lol but definitely going to try thanks
Hahaha dang! try it out! the sand bag still has a spot on my shelf, i aint throwing it out but the tire is a good alternative, or just an extra tool to have
Persistent pop-up affiliate ads at the bottom of the screen are a nuisance.
Your probably right I took them off
Put the tire on the sandbag!
Good idea 😎👉
Did you make that hammer...
No I bought this one years ago from Wray at pro shaper. Although I am going to start building my own hammers
Thanks Ford share, great ideas i put in practice and make dome more
👍
Nice tip, you earned a new subscriber.
Thanks for the sub!
When you goin to make a bandsaw mount video? Lol
Hahaha that's not a bad idea!
Will you show how to finish that panel? How to smooth it out
I could do that, maybe here in the near future, also you might want to check out my other videos, I smooth out the metal in a few of them
Worked as a beater and worked my way up to a vehicle body builder and I've never seen one of those bag's! 🤔 maybe they aren't that popular in Australia.
I'm actualy going to go make a sand bag with one of those wheels inside after watching this!
Great job 👍
You have never seen a leather shot bag? interesting... what do you use in Australia? Thanks for watching man, yeah try out the tire it works pretty good
@@BeAMetalFabricator Usualy just an English wheel with enough attachments to build a whole car 😅
Shaped wood and a hammer and dolly
old school style! I love it!!!
They are most definitely popular in Australia.
Usually homemade to suit your individual needs.
I've got a few for different purposes.
They have so many uses, not just dishing.
@@fledermauseimglockenturm7655 when I started attending essenden tafe @15yo in 2003 the mechanics institute of footscray, Richmond tafe and essenden tafe NEVER had things like that nor did any of my employers but being such huge company's if you know what your doing you keep you job's and most places were all old skool.
Those things would be gold but in schools ect I imagine they don't or didn't use them as they might tear easily with so many student's bashing on them all day.
Old skool wins all day for me but these might be an exception! Then again for my needs it's rust ATM and good old lead solder is my go to
Isn't the sandbag a little overfilled?
I don't think so, but that could be subjective
Great idea and communication. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
that was solid
Thank you!
😎👍😎
Thanks ..
Thank you too for watching!
New Mexico?
Yes sir
That shirt is New Mexico swag
😎👉 yeah it is
Good deal.
Great idea. !
👍👍👍👍
What are the tires filled with? Pretty ingenious.
This is just a solid rubber wheel barrow tire
That's a helluva mallet :)
That's what she said
Thanks again!
My pleasure bro!
GENUIS
Put the tire on top of the sand bag.
good idea!
