Flying Scotsman had rocks thrown at it, was shot at, fired to hell, drove almost non-stop for 50 thousand miles, was rusted to hell for three and a half years, but even after all of that, she could still pump her pistons. What a legend.
It was this day, 100 years ago, when the worlds most famous steam locomotive was built. It was some other day, 99 years ago, when the then yet to be most famous steam locomotive was given a name. Happy birthday, Flying Scot!
@@dillontrainvids25 The guy’s got the most amazing OO gauge collection (including the USA tour Flying Scotsman by Hornby) that I’ll bet any American rail fan has.
As a kid growing up on Thomas, learning about this marvelous engine, that braved so many hardships and was beloved by people around the world, it warms my heart to hear that she's reached her 100th birthday and is still going strong for years to come. Happy 100th, Flying Scotsman. I hope to one day get to ride down your line.
Not only did you reference the first 6 JoJo parts, Flying Scotsman’s American tour was essentially cross-country, basically the Steel Ball Run in train form.
The fact that you made all the different chapters of the video named & themed (Mainly in the use of the soundtrack.) around the 6 currently animated Jojo arcs was a stroke of genius. It threw me off and gave me quite a laugh.
As someone who hates that anime (I’m not really much of a anime person to begin with) with a burning passion due to it being shoehorned into threads out of context on an incessant basis, I was annoyed.
The 60s were a dark time for American Railroads, but Flying Scotsman’s tour was one of the few bright spots. Flying Scotsman will always be the most famous steam locomotive in the world. I too hope it ever gets to be restored as LNER 4472 again one day in the distant future
I saw it back in May 1968 when it did the non-stop run from London to Edinburgh. At the time, there were no watering facilities in Edinburgh and it made its way to my local shed, Dunfermline (62C) for water and coal. The last steam engine ever to visit the shed.
This video is definitely going to be my one of favourite videos of this channel! Thanks for making this video, also HAPPY BIRTHDAY FLYING SCOTMAN!! 🥳🥳🥳
Happy 100th to Flying Scotsman! While we weren't alive to see Scotsman while in America, I'm sure if we could trave back to those days, we would do anything we can to make sure Peglar didn't have to declare bankruptcy and appreciate the entire train much more than the people who were there. Scotsman has many amazing stories from his life and it's no mystery why no one can't dislike Scotsman in the least.
The fact that the PM pulled funding and willingly let a national icon and relic be abandoned in a foreign nation is both appalling and yet so very predicable from what I have seen of British politicians.
Also little side note, one of the rolling stock used in the tour was the Devon Belle Observation car no.14...after Scotsman left the US, the coach was left behind for a number of years in San Fransisco and attached to a office building. in 2007, it was repatriated to the UK and now resides on the Swanage Railway, actually reuniting with Scotsman in early 2019
A historic retelling about one of my favorite locomotives with my favorite anime ever is not something I knew I needed in my life. Awesome video you’ve made! I love all title changes you did for each segment.
A once in a Life time experience, My Dad Talks about when he was a teenager getting to see it when he was in high school when it was in Texas. believe it's one of the few Engines to circumnavigate the globe too. An amazing story of an artifact from a by gone era.
I heard of the fear of Flying Scotsman being converted into a restaurant from NWR1991 in his NWR Tales Timeline video. He told me in a comment in Gordon’s Fallout that it would’ve been designed like you’re dining in an express train in the 1920s. And then I replied by saying that it reminded me of a restaurant in an episode of The Simpsons where the family eats at a restaurant converted from a wrecked passenger train.
There is another video that tells the same story, only it’s 45 mins long. I like how this is simple and easy to follow. Thanks for the history lesson!!
Loved the instrumental of the classic Yes song ‘Roundabout’ at the end. I can’t say I understood what all the Japanese stuff was all about but each to their own. Great video of just part of the Flying Scotsman story. Along with Jago, that’s a double dose of Scotsman in as many days.
I gotta say, this has to be one of my favorite videos that you've made. Not only is it flying scotsman related but the Jojo's style is perfection! Truely a fantastic video to celebrate 100 years of flying scotsman! :D
I live about 30 minutes away from Slaton, Texas and there is actually some more documented history while it stayed in Texas. For instance, the derailment took place in Waco, Texas behind the now famous grain elevators. MKT crews were able to get Scotsman re-railed with a small crane.
Wow! Your videos on Friday are always a treat to watch at lunchtime, but this one is one of your best! I'd always heard of the USA Tour but never knew it had such a tumultuous story to it! Great presentation, use of footage, and sense of humour and script, keep it up! You've always been great, but I feel you've really been hitting your stride over the last few months. 😁
Train, I have to say that I love this video. I have been a steam locomotive fan since I was a little child and a JoJo fan for the last 6 years of my life. This video is worlds colliding for me and when I saw the thumbnail and title I clicked it right away. I usually don't comment on video's but this one is an exception for me. I felt genuine emotions during the entire video and when Scotsman got home at the end I almost shed a tear of happiness. Thank you for this video.
To think that I would see a JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure inspired Flying Scotsman video on the 100th anniversary of the Engine. It’s a perfect video, along with UnluckyTug’s video of Scott’s bizarre adventures in the United States
The Pullman Coaches are. But the engine is not. You might be thinking of the Dwight D Eisenhower. That is a similar locomotive that is on display there.
Thank you so much for sharing this video! It is very important that the railfan community celebrate famous locomotives like this because they are tantamount to cultural representation for our community! Well done, concise and incredibly informative!
Great video but I do have to say that it she didn’t meet 750 and 4501 in Atlanta but rather in Anniston Alabama. My grandpa was part of the huge crowd which was at the event
Probably the only railway steam engine to circumnavigate the planet. I have read about what was required to bring the engine to Australia in 1987-88. One of the organizers put his house up as guarantee that the engine would return. It is unlikely such an event will happen again as the shipping and cranes are not available as they once were.
If you’ve ever wondered who. Reversed the Points. Cleared the Subsidiary Signal. Sending 4472 Flying Scotsman into Tilbury Docks on her way to Australia. It was me.
You know, I'm willing to bet that Flying Scotsman traveled the same distance to get to British Week that the Stardust Crusaders did to get to Egypt. Does this make the Flying Scotsman an honorary Jojo?
It's surprising to hear about a famous British steam engine traveling across America. I'm glad that Flying Scotsman wasn't scrapped when he was stranded in California.

Those restaurant owners that forced Flying Scotsman to be moved out of the way sound like the merchants along South Huntington and Centre Street in Boston (Jamaica Plain neighborhood) who complained about potential loss of parking if the E branch of the Green Line was restored, and helped to kill the restoration past Heath Street.
Wel the Scotsman can’t go on a Japanese tour as the only lines it could use are high speed due to the gauge and I don’t think the Japanese, who do love the engine, would permit the change in schedule
As a young railway enthusiast I was fortunate enough to stand on Scotsman's footplate while the engine was being prepared for this trip, at Doncaster Works.
I just saw the Märklin Flying Scotsman announcement about an hour ago, they mentioned it went on a US tour but that was it. I was immediately curious about it. This video is perfect timing. Really a Barge? I live there. The logistical time of loading and unloading it would have been the same as just going via San José. Actually it wouldn't have even needed to go that far, the Dumbarton Rail Bridge would still be operable then. Crazy to see the SF Embarcadero rail infrastructure intact though. All that's left is the Pier 43 Ferry Arch and a repurposed Roundhouse building.
What a fantastic story. So glad the "Flying Scotsman" survived it's many ordeals. P.S. As an American i am dumbfounded and abashed that this icon of British railways was treated with such abuse and disrespect, by _children_ no less. Being an American can be _so_ embarrassing sometimes.

Great, now the idea of Allen Pegler being a Jojo character with the Stand "Flying Scotsman" is in my head

How?
