Enjoyed the 990 test ride but we are almost talking Ducati street fighter money now
Most people would even get a Monster over a KTM.
It's gonna be unreliable might as well pay for the badge😂
Seriously? Ain't no way?
If KTM would give 5 years warranty then I'd buy one tomorrow, and for those haters, I own a KTM, it's just that things start to give trouble just outside the warranty time. If their motto is No Bullshit, then it should also reflect on quality and customer support. I'd pick the new MT-09 SP and have spare change for fuel and great journeys with all software unlocked
5 years lol? Ktm has improved reliability. It’s not how it once was..
100%.
KTM 990 wins my heart, but my brain keeps telling me that the MT-09 is the right choice.
@@nicofoncesometime you've got to listen to the mind
Listen, I hear what you're saying, but I'm never going to spend "European money" on a Japanese bike. Yes, yes, yes, reliability, cost savings, etc etc, believe me I get it! But sometimes you just want to take a second look in the garage before you go to bed, and I don't even want to take a first look at the Yamaha 🤢
@@mrbookendsexactly this guy gets it it’s like a Honda civic vs a corvette
I bought a 390 (24model) today. I’d love the 990 but can’t stretch the extra £6k…..and small light bikes are sooooo much fun on the roads😁
How are you liking the bike bro I want one of those soo bad
It’s on 1400 miles and I only got it on 8th June……..so it’s safe to say I’m enjoying it😀
1390 especially for track days and 2 up riding. the 990 sound like a bag of spanner’s in a cement mixer especially on start up. 390 good fun for youngster
Spanners in a cement mixer, for sure!! What a horrid sounding bike lol
I have already placed the order with the dealer and can't wait to receive my new KTM 990 DUKE :)
I picked the 890 R. I couldn't justify the price of the 990 when the 890r is just as powerful, has much better brakes and cost £3k less for a new '23 model.
Not just as powerful, but it's probably close enough.
Wait for the R 990
@@ulaskvlcm How much more will that cost, to the already too expensive 990?
I think with brembo’s and more bhp’s, around 2000 Euros.
Yup 890 was spot on. They messed up making a 990 baby super duke
390 duke is considered a super powerful bike in India😂 . Love from India.
As per economic condition, road taxes, per capita income and partnership with baja sharing its services centres , KTM390 is absolute value for money product
Absolutely loved this content, tho an observation, 390 power rating as 1 star felt harsh as it was compared with 990 and 1390..but not with its segment rivals..but the metric used for affordability of 990 was with its rivals in same segment 😅 sub 400cc segment 390 is amongst the top of power range..
It's fun to own higher displacements like the 1390 SDR Evo. Unfortunately though, in my country there's this 62mph max speed limit within our highways so it's a bummer to ride a fast bike slow and not getting the maximum potential of its engine. So here in the Philippines, I would love to own that Duke 390.
salamat
890 duke r
I have one, and I love it.
Only thing id change is the styling of the 390. For a beginner bike this thing looks damn good. But i do understand you are comparing the 3 dukes against each other 🤷♂️
Bought the 2023 KTM 1290 SDR EVO with a steep discount FTW!
( in California and we can ride them a little harder than the UK )
I would like to say that for most riders with some experience looking for a little bit of fun the option would be the 790 Duke that you did not include. That one has the sufficient grunt to get a bit of a scare without really requiring a lot of skill and with great low and middle push for the day to day ride.
I think those ratings would change based on what power you are used to.
I just test rode the 990 today. Initial thoughts, bike was very light and agile, almost felt like a toy. I had it originally in Street mode but quickly went up to Performance mode and I still felt it lacked jam. It seemed more quick than powerful and I'm only coming from a GSXR 600. Perhaps I needed it in Track mode but I only had 30 min with it. The Quicksfiter produced a whole bunch of false neutrals for me even in the 4-5k rpm range, eventually just went back to the clutch. The sit on the bike was very comfortable ( main reason I'm looking at an upright bike opposed to my Gixer) but the bike itself felt small for me (I'm 6'2 185lbs). I'm sure with adjustments of all the options i would like the bike but i feel the $14k Cdn is just too expensive for the bike you're getting
Please, bring us a 1001 or 1401 Svartpilen.
what is your opinion on 790/890 camshaft issue which pretty evident in many bikes and KTM is silent about it
I have a 990, and I can tell you I get to use more of the bike more of the time. I'm find myself very rarely if ever wanting more power, with all that torque available, there's no practical use for more, unless you're a track junkie, in which case you'll never have enough.
I think a 490 or 590 parallel twin duke would have been better in between 390 and 990 duke.
Not a2 compliant then.
@@chriswest2290a1 is up to 15hp
The 390 is already not a1 compliant
@@guanweihe7614 typo. A2. Can't believe you couldn't work that out.
KTM did have a 490 twin in the planning some years ago, but decided to X the project.
They do a 790 with around 94 hp
Great video. I wonder which one will be more reliable?
Probably the super duke. Longest production history, higher quality parts, less stressed engine under normal use.. the 390 should be reliable as well. It’s the 990 I’m the most skeptical about but time will tell.
Is the 790 duke still being sold?
I thought they brought it back last year for a reasonable price.
Yes there are still selling the 790 for 2024 just replaced the 890 with the new 990 for 24 model year
Ktm bikes is one of the most fun to ride brand.. if only they can improve the reliability durability of these bikes
My RC45 is more reliable and fun than all 3 KTM and it's mileage is more than 150,000km.
Definitely not in the 990 category at my stage in life. BTW - my last bike was a Suzuki GS1150 and I loved it through a lot of road miles.
890 duke R. Lighter, better styling (IMHO). With a few, simple mods (which still keep it under the 990 price) can make 126bhp, so PTW ratio is better.
The one that doesn’t have Cheese Grater Cams .. which sounds like it is pretty rare.
That new 390 looks so messy compared to the last gen. Looks like it’s been ridden out of Halfords.
never been on 2 wheels. 100% starting on a 1390 SD
bad ideA.. start with
@@righteousEarth ok thats all the convincing i need. no seriously though i am contemplating an r6 due to it needing to be revved super high before it really opens up and considering that the general consensus is that throttle control is one of the biggest keys to riding this seems to make sense. does this thought process check out? or should i seek a different route? my only experience is that ik how to work a clutch ive never owned an automatic transmission. so im familiar with the concept of the friction zone and rev matching
@@thatoneguywithtwothumbs Actually, You cannot go wrong with your choice. whatever you buy nowadays you are guaranteed a fun time. Even you start with litter bikes, I originally opposed. you just should confidence in yourself that you can handle this and in a month you will search on YT "How to do wheelie" . And do not take key advice or info from internet. especially from YT comments.
990 just wow, so nimble & feel like riding 250cc bike. The weight distribution so perfect. Still not own one but I choose 990 over others.
I want something between the 390 and the 990 but with a new look, something with no more than 70hp.
Why not the 790?
you're the rich guy
if you own the ktm 390
Seems to be a big hole between 399cc and 947cc. I Guess there's always the 790. Have they ironed out all the bugs from the 790 by now?
390 weights 167kg
TRoo-DaT
I would buy 390 in an instant if it was 154 Kg. Fully Fueled, even though I don't need it ...
already have Gen 3 Busa, 2023 XDiavel, Scrambler 400X, & Trident 660
sold my 2020 390 Duke last year
Thats the Indian variant. The International spec 390 is lighter due to the lighter wheels, lighter mirrors and lack of saree guard along with few other parts here and there.
Lack of Saree guard, michellen tyres and ktm mirrors rest all are the same as Indian version
@@smartypants3832 165 kg is the weight of uk variant
none of the above , smcr gets my vote !
Bro...could you pls do a 2024 Mid Capacity Naked Comparo..😍😍😍😍😍
I have a SDRE. I need a 390 duke for a daily or around town bike lol
I have a 2007 ktm 990 superduke. It’s a beast but it is getting older so I got the new 390 duke as a new economical second bike. The 390 has gotten great reviews over the last 5 years so I gave it a try. Rides like a duke, 0-85 mph plenty of juice. After that I want my heavier bike and larger tires. Not that it is a must but having had that I miss that of the larger cc bikes. Having said that 0-85 mph this thing rails. I’m 6 foot, the bike fits, but yes it’s a pocket rocket. Comfortable, all the extras and services are lower in price. In closing I would say if I get the new 990 duke I know I will love it, but something tells me the 390 on the backroads and twisties is hard to beat.
Bought the 990
for real
wow
do tell
where is 790 motobob?
In the repair shop
No to those headlights or the 390 sideburns. I'd go for the older gen 890 or 1290.
Duke 390 Kerb is 169kg as mentioned in their Indian website.
That's what I was thinking
Even if u remove the sari guard max u can lose 4 kilos
In India they use heavy wheels. In europe we use lighter because we have better roads
@@Lu-xd2mi The wheel seems to be more or less similar. But, I take your words for it.
Motobob taking one for the team 😹😏
Is spending more to get more power worth it? Yes. TBH if you are going to obey the speed limits and they areas you ride are 60mph and under then just get the 390.
Can you do a video on ktm 125 2024
With every other companies making a V4, do you think KTM now making secretly a V4 version and call it the Monster?
990 is the perfect sweetspot for the road
Another great video ❤❤❤
Def 1390 for me & a Streetfighter V4 SP2 to go with my M1000R & Diavel V4. Maybe round off with an M1000RR and the new Panigale V4. Why? Because, why not 😂 EU regulations will kill off these bikes in the not too distant future. Noise and emissions now, but HP/CV and speed restrictions are well on their way.
I have a 790 adventure and a 1290 superduke R. I am never buying a KTM ever again. So many reliability issues. Brake sensors went out, leaking coolant. Total pain in the ass. I'm buying a Japanese bike next
I will go for 990
I'd pick the 390, because thats the only one sold in India 😅
I'm a noob, so I'm picking the 390. Anything larger scares the bejeezus out of me.
You're not a noob, you picked the bike to have the most fun on....
Traded my 22 390 on 24 390 blue, I love kTm😁.
What made you stay with the 390 instead of going bigger?
Will Traded my 390 duke 2021 for a 390 duke 2024 in the atlantic blue color tomorow and i stay with the 390 because it cost less on everything. Insurance, registration, services and don’t Forget the gas. This machine is outstanding and the thruth is that it give enough power to be out of limit and laws almost everywhere on the streets, roads and highways. This machine protect you A FEW to act in the dangerous driving zone for you and the others. Of course, you will probably meets cars, motos, cyclists, animals, children and roads on your way. Can you control all of this elements? For me, with a 390, i can’t. So i can’t imagine with a 990 and a 1390.
It's WAY more fun to drive a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow.
Why would you ride a fast bike slow? That’s like saying a Mazda miata is more fun than a corvette….. pretty sure more people will pick the more powerful corvette and have more fun going faster with more power
It’s way more fun to ride a fast bike fast, or slow. Slow bike stays slow no matter what.
@@cowmath77 right 😂
Isnt the 390 a 399cc?>
yes
398.63 on the engine block
@jonomasonILoveU are you sure its a .63 not a .62?
No, 790?
Am I the only who could only ever go ‘full phat’ i.e. max power…?
But why, unless you are a motogp rider, there is no way you can come close to using all that power at least for not more than a few seconds.
People spend stupid money to use 'all that power' for 'just a few seconds'. And the downside is they are using 25% of the power the other 98% of the time, while paying for premium fuel, premium insurance rates, premium tire consumption, premium maintenance costs.
The top tier motorcycles have a big diminishing returns factor about them. The middle-weight class seems to be the most bang for dollar, enough performance to feel a tad stupid, not too much performance to inhibit riding skills and learning or be a determent to one's drivers license. Somewhere between 110-130 horsepower and 420-450 pounds weight, which when you consider it, is bonkers power to weight ratio compared to automobiles and you can get this without paying an arm or a leg.
@@spartanx169x Hmmm, best not to put in writing just how much I used to cane the living daylights outta my Hayabusa’s over the years…
Great real world . Shame the end result was wrong lol
I kind of agree 990 it’s just right for the road . I’ve 1290 it’s a pussy cat unless you don’t want it to be . Not rider the 1390 but the 1290 It’s not really a track bike I was quicker on my Daytona on track . But the duke is a must to try out for the fun of it .
I can't get the image if a vaggie out of my head.
690 would be best.
How come I keep hearing stories about the unreliability of KTMs?
But is the 990 as fun as the 890..🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Fun,fun..fun. KTM is all fun untill problems arise. Its a shit brand and the 990 has an absurd price tag. i know so many people in the bike community who went japanese after owning a euro bike. Yamaha and kawasaki all the way
Not your greatest video. The comparisons, particularly including the 390, are ludicrous. And the fact that you can’t get its weight correct, mean that this is a clickbait waste of time.
The question is which will break down fastest 😂😂😂😂
I had an SD from 2016, a great machine. But the failure rate is absolutely unacceptable. I don't know what it's like with the KTM brand now, but it really turned me off
You haven't actually owned any KTM's have you? I have and covered over 30k miles on them. No more problems than all the other brands I've owned.
Indian road squids (chapris) drooling over this😂
You don't have to bring the c word in every comment/conversation mate....
Neither not reliable
U just can't handle the hooliganism,old timer
KTM is Chinese manufacturing quality, but wait.... It gets worse... Its expensive, but wait it gets worse.... The features are already on your motorcycle, but locked behind a paywall. KTM can go out of business for all I care.
Don't be so dramatic. Keep things in perspective, protest the bad business model and hold them accountable. But don't bash on the engineering company that they are. Who else makes looneytoon high performance twins with the sort of excitement and soul factor that KTM does? Ducati gave up on that years ago. As far as manufacturing moved to China, it's an unfortunate move...... that is a political and national problem, not just a corporate one. If KTM decided to make everything it sells in Austria, guess what the prices would look like? The enemy isn't KTM, the enemy is George Soros and people like that.
Not one single bike you've seen in this video is made in china. The 390 is made in india since forever and the 990 and 1390 are made in austria. The 790 platform is made by CFMoto in china.
@@exothermal.sprocketwell said. Don’t get the China hate. Most of what people buy this days is made in China.
@@ehiggins7476 It's misdirected frustration and disapproval. Chinese government has a well established track record of rotten human respect and values, and their penchant for control and tyranny is well established. I will say however, if most Chinese people could express their personal thoughts openly about their government without fear of reprisal, they would be little different than the places who can still do that without being jailed or destroyed. CF Moto can have all the same manufacturing talent as any other company. We all wish labor, prices, international trade was far, ethical, and respectful. It is not. Is that the fault of the common person in these countries? Most of the time, no. Ignorance abounds about how manufacturing, sales, and services work. Governments thrive on ignorance because it prevents them losing power. Passivity is the tool of ignorant people because their personal ignorance doesn't threaten their own lifestyle, as they think they have freedom and control when they actually live inside a bubble of slavery.
lmao only the 790 is made by CFMoto in China, they clarified that in their 990 media event
It's all abt how deep ur wallet is. Bias to compare it's hp, looks, etc
All three should get no more than 1 star for looks
5 stars in my book.
Beauty is subjective and I think the 390 is one magnificent machine!!
Completely ruined the looks of the bike...
🔥👍🏽
Your clutch control is the worse. Like a noob, so much revvs while the clutch is half-way pulled. @motobob learn how to feather the clutch
None 😂
Just buy an old 990.
Unless you want cruise control, etc
@@Villani_AV yeah but do we really need them? I am actually going back to a more simple and analogue bike. Got an ktm 950 sm with carbs, trying to make my own subframe and fuel tank and other stuff to get down to as low weight as possible. 215kg is waay to much for me :P
Imagine if the 390 was available with an old school 650 cc v-twin engine at max 15kg more. That would be my sweet spot.
super nimble handling because of low weight at just shy of 100bhp would be so awesome.
Until there are no more old 990's.
