Every single time i open a comment section there are many horror stories about the ktm parallel twin bikes. I have never encountered another make and model of bike with this many unhappy owners. Ktm really needs to get their shit together.
It was a defect by the machine that grinds out the oil gallery to the camshaft, there was to much material left and the camshaft didn't get enough oil at higher rpm's. Not all bikes had that problem.
unforgiveable ktm.... i was a loyal customer, but got my fingers burned with the lc8c chocolate camshaft issue.... my bike is well out of warranty and ktms stance on this is diabolical.... they are not interested in any goodwill gesture .... that engine has a major design fault and ktm are just sweeping the issue under the carpet..... ktm never again
Ive had the original 990 Super Duke, 690 Duke, 790 Duke, 890 Duke R and now the 990 Duke. No issues what so ever. The 990 Duke is an awesome bike, the best ive ever had. Just go and try it out, you wont be dissapointed! 🏁
@@RobertKehl the breaks are more than enough for 95% of all riders , but the brembos on the 890 Duke R are better. Ive pushed the 990 hard and the breaks are really good. The suspension is great too. Have you ridden the 990?
@@RobertKehl the 890 Duke R is an amazing bike. I take it that you’re a hardcore track rider and need Brembos. Otherwise you really wont be needing any more than the KTM branded J.Juan (owned by Brembo). 🙂
I wish I was a hardcore track day rider. Can’t afford it. I’ve Only done two track days in my life and I’m 63. Sears point and Laguna Seca. I probably consider myself a hard core twisty mountain road rider. Not that I go all out on the road. It’s to dangerous. But I do ride on the sporty side and good feeling breaks are more progressive and safer in my opinion. If you haven’t ridden with higher level breaks you might not understand. But if you just cruise and ride spiritedly here and there I’m sure the stock ktm branded breaks are just fine for most riders. Unfortunately I’ve been spoiled having Brembo stylema (probably not spelled right) on my 2021 1290r and even higher on my 2023 890r Duke.
I genuinely think KTM is making a strategic error with the pricing of this bike. Anyone in their right mind would go for the new 09SP with Brembo front brakes and Ohlins rear shock as well as a full unrestricted electronic suite and one of the best engines in motorcycling today.... for CHEAPER than this KTM. only diehard KTM fans who are lucky to never have had issues with KTM reliability or customer service would choose this bike.
Agree, I'm a big ktm fan but the price doesn't mike sense when you can buy a Street RS or MT09 SP for less money. I hope they will make it cheaper AND that there will be an R version.
Nice review & machine. At almost a litre it is a big bike! Lots of competition though so not sure it'd be my pic for the price & rightly or wrongly I still have some reservations about long term reliability. In & around this price range I'd personally be thinking about the Triumph Street Triple RS, Ducati Monster SP or possibly MT-09 SP as you say.
Before seeing one in the flesh, I really liked the black colour, and spec'd one up online and got to £15k (bar end mirrors, heated grips, spoiler, tech pack, few blingy bits (no carbon though!)) Finally got to see and sit on one (in black), but the first impression was "This feels too plasticky and cheap". That tank just feels like it will scratch up without PPF protection? Still going to test ride one as that is what it is all about, but compared to the Monster SP, MT09 SP, Striple RS, not sure it feels "premium" enough for the price tag...
I sat on the 990 duke and indeed everything not only felt plasticky but very rubbery. the switchgear borderline felt broken so I'm confused when others say it offers great feedback...it didn't to me, even without gloves. the passenger pegs don't have that nice click to them, etc...
This channel is awesome and testing bikes like the new 990 Duke is a massive plus. The only thing I’d change are may be like 50% less talking and less voice volume so that we can hear and enjoy the awesome engine sounds. Big thanks for a great channel.
I have a KTM dealer 10mins away from me but won’t be buying one any time. Reliability and warranty support appears to be very poor. Shame as I really fancy the new SMT.
Nah, its not better. Higher spec breakes sure, but the rest is better on the 990. Try it out, its bloody awesome!! Ive had the 890 Duke R for a couple of years and I would never trade back from my current 990 Duke.
Tested it a couple of weeks ago. Before jumping in, the dealer suggested me to put it in SPORT mode and boy was he right about it! ROAD does feel quite smooth and light, but SPORT is a totally different situation.
I’m sorry but that headlight looks like what’s left after the crash 🤨👎! And I’m sure that £13k price is without all the “packs” that turn on things like the quick shifter 🤔!?
Bobzilla here... Welcome Back To Another Episode of Daily Rider !!!! 😆
Lol, you're right, Motobob's borrowed Revzilla's wall!

I hear you brother. Love their bikes but their service is trash and will deny your warranty.
The 790 duke demo bike I rode didn't work properly, and I bought a suzuki gsx 8s instead
KTM garbage bike + customer support
Those camshafts seems to be worldwide spread problem :/
4 years of lies, warranty’s denied , and reputation trashed .. yep it’s a KTM

Better suspension and breaks than the 890r Duke?

Always nice to see my local roads getting used properly 👍🏻
Superhappy with mine. Went for orange. Quite different from my 1250 gsa. Perfekt for shorter trips in the twisties on sunny days

They will depreciate like shit of a shovel especially when they bring out the R version

Any 990 Duke, should be SUPER!
I like the new front. Seems an excellent bike. Don’t see much point in the 1390 now.
Isn’t there an R version coming?

I've never had issues with warranty support. My 2 closest dealers 1 in Yorkshire 1 in Nottinghamshire have done warranty work without question or fuss
I won't be changing my 890 r anytime soon
Same here.
Me ether but I wish I had the updated dash with performance mode like my 1290r has.
Me too. The 890r is a sweetheart
Yep 890r for the win, mapped and 121bhp at the rear wheel
Mines mapped as well, 125rwhp, 75t, larger fuel pump.
Always the latest us the best
Future dash screens will be transparent built into the helmet visor.
No brake light is dangerous. You brake and indicate at the same time so you confuse people behind you. Hate dual brake and indicaters
I’d go mt09sp any day had Ktm lovely bikes but over priced and still in my head reliability so Yamaha all the way
£13'000 Shut the fridge...Bonkers
And a extra £940 to make the electronics work
And the remus exhaust looks way better, so add that on
Was very interested in 890 DukeR or 990 but after reading all the horror QC KTM stories, I am staying away from KTM.
Hmmm marmite headlight arrangement… it’s distinct and does a job but it’s not pretty, a bit like a kabab….
Didn’t even bother l. Reliability too much of a concern. Copped a 24 MT09
890R is £9599 it’s a better bike why the huge price difference?
because they decided to take themselves too seriously

Blowing through the stroke on the front suspension...
Damnnnnn it they made my 890 obsolete already wtf
And I thought the honda hornet looked bad 🤔🤔
KTM wants premium prices without all the premium components while being made in China. MT09 SP with Olins and Brembos for cheaper.
Yes! that's nuts!
Street triple rs shits all over this cheap junk.
Its the 790 Duke & Adventure thats made in China. 990 Duke is made in Mattighofen. 👍🏼

MT09 for me, Japanese made. Not a fan of Chinese made
this is not made in china! only the 790's are
The 1990s called and wants their hot takes back

Absolute garbage. Who in there right mind would choose this unreliable expensive junk over a mt09sp or street triple? 😂🤣🤡🤡🤡
Too much money for this bike is worth it is all plastic too.
Please dont test ride such bikes, it doesn suit you .. keep it till sub 600s and royal Enfields .. nobody is interested in such talks ...
You have a great channel and no offense lol there is definitely some Zack Courts impersonation going on here
