    I was sure that I would buy MT09. Then I went to Yamaha dealership and saw that bike with my own eyes. It looks a bit like a previous Duke. Too small and to cheap.
    Maybe SP will solve the second issue.
    Next I went to KTM to see 990. It looks like a smaller Super Duke. Just a bit smaller. It was love from the first sight. Where Yamaha lacks in terms of presence and feeling of serious bike KTM delivers in 100%.
    Also ergonomics was superior for me (I'm 193 cm tall).
    So now I wait for a better weather to test ride Duke, but I guess that I've already made my mind.

      I love KTM but I think this is a stretch to far. It is a retrograde step from the 890 duke which was one of the sweetest handling bikes ever. Sorry, but KTM has dropped the ball with this. And it’s atrocious looking.

    Awesome video! As for the free time for options I'm not sure what the fuss is all about. You know it going in beforehand . A little over a year ago I bought a new motorcycle with everything available. If after a year I could choose , cafeteria style, what I wanted to keep I would have loved that choice. Some things on my bike I will never use. Other things I would keep. I love the style of this bike. When I look at the headlight I see a Gladiator helmet, which is very cool. Best!

    i really wanted to check this one out but my dealer said they ordered them and the shipment was late so i ended up getting a street triple rs moto2. couldnt be happier tbh but ill probably get a duke next year for my second bike. was also really disappointed with the lack of premium components and $1000 price tag for the tech pack. even though the components are on the bike you still have to go back to the dealership to "update" the software.

    after you realize they just praise every bike so they can get more bikes to test, you know that all of this channels are pointless. I would take everything if is for free when you pay for it the perceptions regarding the bikes are very different. No nock on KTM i have a CF moto 800NK and tested the 990 Duke, i could not justify a 8K difference bettween this bike and my bike.

    I had a 2023 KTM 890 Duke R and had reliability issues literally from the first day I picked it up. After multiple trips to the dealership I ended up giving up and selling it for a $10,000 loss (including taxes).
    Please don’t make the same mistake that I made. Buy an MT09 instead, there is no point in purchasing a bike that will just sit in the local dealership’s service department.

      I had the same experience with a regular 790. I sold it to buy a street triple rs, I am a happy rider now.
      KTM never again!

      @@censure2023 My 2023 Street RS has been at the dealer for weeks now, a major recall about the camshafts, full engine out job. Also after owning it for 1200km I had an oil leak at the engine head, that also took 3 weeks to repair and in doing that they scratched the plastics and won't take responsibility for it.

      @@tubejorrit Are you talking about the 23’ US version? I’m asking because I have the 24’ US version of the 765 RS and there are no recalls. I have experienced zero problems with my 24’ STR 765 RS.

    In Malaysia, a MT-09 V3 cost RM60,000 on the road and Duke 990 cost RM99,800 before on the road.......welp....im trying to get a different brand as I owned a mt09 v2....but yeah...the price stopped me

    One reason why you might not want to buy it, I can think of a few reasons. Looks, price, reliability. The new MT09 is so much better and £2 to 3k cheaper depending in the purchase of a tech package. And isn’t the 890 duke R better handling? I thought so.

      Or the Kawasaki 900. You took the words right out of my mouth. Why would you buy a KTM when you can buy extremely reliable Yamaha or Kawasaki. Don’t get me wrong. I’ve got a couple of KTM dirt bikes, but only because Yamaha and the other guys don’t make up-to-date two strokes. and I’m getting too old to kick a YZ 250. Lol.

      I also face palmed when he said he could only think of "one reason" to not buy it. Surely the main reason to not buy a KTM is because it's a KTM! It's the brand loved by 'influencers' who don't have to deal with the reliability problems, parts availability, dealership network and depreciation that comes with actually owning a KTM.

      I am a Yam lover through and through but the MT-09 is one of the ugliest bikes ever created. Top tier motorcycle but the looks is making me want to throw up. Not positive to the looks of this either but damn, the MT-09 beats everything when it comes to being ugly.

    Personally I’m not keen on the looks of this, I think the 790/890 look better. Having owned a 2021 790 duke for a couple months now, I have to agree that the engine, handling and the vibe of the bike really get under you skin so can understand where your coming from with the 990, KTM is an addictive brand and I’ve loved every bike I’ve ridden from them

      Yea, I’ve test ridden one and I still wasn’t a fan in person the headlight just looos too bit and the exhaust is also hideous. I’d much rather push a bit more and just get the 1390r

    Far too much money for me I'm afraid. Had the 890r but it had oil leak within 500 miles. Traded in for a s1000r sport. Best decision ever

    Looks even better in real life. And the sitting position is lovely. (I'm 180cm)
    But I just bought a new bike (2020 790 Duke) and if I was in the market for a new, I would probably look at the new Svartpilen 801. 25% cheaper than the 990 here in Denmark.

    Mine has the tech-pack for free, what it gives you does seem worth it but I do agree that buying a bike that is restricted in this way is not good and if it wasn't free it would have been a difficult decision . I had a Street Triple 765 RS and the KTM feels more powerful (i know peak power isn't) but the torque is very addictive, could ride it in 4th all day. Already done a tour with the KTM and it performed as well or better than the Triumph and I wasn't too sore (not as sore as the Triumph for sure) for an over 50 year old!! Having had a couple of Street Triples, this seems for me a more fun bike, the KTM it hasn't got the plushness of the Triumph and is more raw feeling but I kinda prefer that...

    Does this bike's quickshifter enable downshifting while accelerating or upshifting while decelerating?
    Does it have a Brembo front brake?
    Does it have an Ohlins rear shock?
    Are all the tech options included in the base price?
    Is it reliable?
    No to all of these? AND it's more expensive than the new MT-09SP? LOL

      @@martinkyte1637 I'd tip my hat to KTM if they stuck to this decision on a permanent basis rather than just for the moment. For them to offer it temporarily also means something. And I like KTM! I own one. And yes I had to pay for its quickshifter lol.

    Z900,900rs or MT-9. I’m old so went with the 900rs. Brock tune and Brock 4 into 1……100+rwhp,smiles for miles.As long as they have oil and gasoline in them, you’re good to go from now on. The older you get the more important reliability can be.My days of wrenching are slowly coming to a close. Don’t get me wrong. I have 2 KTM‘s 150 and 300 2 strokes and a husky 701. But the only reason I have those motorcycles is because the big four don’t want to compete in those categories. Almost $15,000 by the time you get it out the door with a couple of mods.No.!!! But what the hell do I know?

    It seems KTM and boat owners have a similar experience. The two happiest days are the day you buy it and the day you sell it. I'd be curious what percentage of KTM owners would buy a KTM again. It would be a good MotoBob vid all be it risky if it turns out badly but on the other hand it might put to rest what we hear almost every time a review comes out.

      It's really difficult to get good reliability data because manufacturers are hardly going to give it out, and dealers won't want to be publicising how many warranty issues they have to fix. Personally I would be looking at the user reviews under MCN's main reviews, as they give you an average for the reliability score and there's plenty more insight if you sift through them. But it's not really for me to be publishing MCN's hard-earned user generated content. Perhaps once a year we could run a survey or something... I'll think about it! But appreciate the constructive feedback 👍

      ​​​@@motobobThanks, I used the NHTSA data base to collect complaints and recalls on 13 brands over 5 years from 2016 through 2021 in the U.S.. I'm not sure other countries track the same information and whether individuals can access it.
      I did it because I was curious but it was time consuming. Once you get the number of recalls and complaints it was kind of neat digging down to the types of issues.
      Although KTM did not issue many recalls - they were the 5th best they dead last in the number of complaints to number of recalls . All that means customers are finding the issues and complaining but nothing much was being done. Conversely Aprilla the same number of recalls but were first in the ratio of complaints to recalls which means better customer service.
      One last tid bit BMW was last in recalls with 174 followed by Harley 120 and Ducati 119. The most reason for recalls for all 13 brands was front and rear brake issues accounting for 25.66% of all recalls. Surprisingly mechanical issues accounted for 72% and electrical was 28% of recalls.

      I’ve had a 22 890r for 2 years now 6k miles on it absolutely no issues handles amazing much more comfortable then any lay over bike plenty of power for my first bike very minimal mods and I’m very happy with it

    The power/capacity creep is actually ridiculous; what’s the point of the high capacity bikes (nakeds, adv bikes) if these “mid”-capacity bikes have all this power? I’m starting to think the only reason people buy the bigger bikes is ego and getting caught up in the marketing hype.

    I’m the US the 2023 890R MSRP’s for $12,949 while the 2024 990 MSRP’s for $12,500. So at least here the 990 is less.
    I just converted the UK price to USD and it comes out at $16,526 so I see why you complain about the price so much over there.

      I cant deside - super smooth streety or rowdy MT…

      @@exothermal.sprocket Of course. With tech pack this, let's be honest, basically 890 duke thing is 14k. 2k off a V2, which is on another level altogether. If you look at percentage/finance difference there's virtually none. And I would guess Duke R will cost 16k like a V2.

    Such a shame the Husqvana svartpillen wasn't based on this machine. That hallmark KTM headlight shape is ugly AF. I hope they can completely bin it and come up with something more universally appealing. The transformers looks of the KTMs makes them a hard no for me even though I like everything else about this bike.

    £4,000 more than an MT09!?!......for a gain of 5hp and the constant worry about reliability. You'd have to be a total moron to even consider it. Are these things as uncompetitive in other markets? Good grief!

      Nope, all made in austria. Thats why they're so fucking expensive. Way too expensive. Only the 790 Duke and Adventure are assembled in China by CF Moto.

    The ktm always has the better bike handling, engine, brake wise and you can never dispute that. But they fall flat on their face when you find out they are absolutely riddled with problems from the factory. Dont believe me look it up theyre horribly unreliable which makes it the better choice to go with the bullet proof mt09sp or Triumph 765 or something. I doubt ktm will fix anything this generation

    they must have left the 890 duker as normal 890duke and an new 990 duke r instead of this ... this thing is waste of money ... with stylema , 130hp , and a 2-3kg less weight the r version will drop a year or two later which would be a upgrade to 790 or 765 2020 model owners... the 890duke r is one the best bikes made as a ktm and the 890 smt is a underdog but the normal 890 and this just dont justify the price

    I've had 5 1290 Super Dukes so I clearly love the mark & I know the 990 is a great bike ......BUT the look of the thing is awful, just imagine seeing that in your garage, it's as sexy as a house brick & that headlight is the killer & the fact that it's the same unit on the 1390 is a disaster. I won't be buying either.

    Love the idea of this bike, but the pay to play nonsense is a massive turn off. I can get a "like new" used MT-10 with low km for less...Not to mention Yammy reliability and that CP4 engine... or a new last years SD1290 for 2K more... Para twins are also a big turn off to me, it's a bias I have, I think beginner bike, I know it's pure BS but it's a thought I can't seem to shake. They're a simple and cheap engine to make, so why the high cost? It's funny how its gone full circle and the Duke 990 is what the SD990 was 20 years ago. (I'm sure its a better bike, right? It"s abetter bike right????)

    KTM All Day.. never had a problem and I beat the shit out of it and never had a problem.. Yamaha just plain ugly as hell...beast it All Day KTM...❤❤❤

    Notice how its almost impossible to get brand new bike and expect it to work faultlessly for even first 10k km or year.
    Went things got so bad and why we keep accepting this crap?
    They literally spit in our(customers) faces and we happily say its raining and keep buying this extremely overpriced disposable toys
