We will never see another singer-songwriter even near the quality and musical energy/artistry of Paul Simon ever again. He, in my humble opinion, is the absolute best singer-songwriter in human history. He wrote this song in 1969!, very early in his career, and it was evident that he was born a master and is now a living legend. The Boxer to me is Paul's masterpiece. Music doesn't get any better than this. Thank you Paul.
"Never, never say never" my friend : i keep hoping that there will be other human beings to live on this earth who will be as talentuous as Paul Simon ... Maybe these people already exist and you are not aware ... ♥
I was always afraid to say so - because I thought I was the only one with that opinion. I rate him higher than Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, whoever... Also, if they had to award the Nobel prize in literature to a singer-songwriter, in my book, that should have been Paul Simon. Just consider even his deep cuts like Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall, A Dangling Conversation, Learn How to Fall, A Hazy Shade of Winter, Cloudy, Slip Sliding Away, Papa Hobo, One Man's Ceiling is Another Man's Floor, Something So Right - the list goes on. And in his lyrics, it's the seemingly ordinary folks, everyday situations and themes he chooses, how he handles them so empathetically with simple everyday words - it's profound commentary on the lives of everyone of us without ever seeming to be so. Maybe the Nobel committee can act while there's still time - and maybe some of the hordes of Paul Simon illiterates will see the light and get a taste of this therapeutic ambrosia that they and many others could be missing out on during their short stay on this planet.
I was in the London tube tunnels a week or two ago and there was a busker playing Simon and Garfunkel tunes by himself with a single amp and guitar. I threw a few quid in his cap and stayed a while....just to listen to what was my father's music. My dad died 3 years ago, but he'll always live through this music. His music. Your music. Our music.
The nostalgic quality of that folk music ringing in the tube tunnels can wrap you right up in your memories and transport you back in time. As an 8 year old my big sister strummed her guitar and sang S&G with deep feeling. I can close my eyes even now and be right there by her side, each lyric being inscribed on my heart 💕
how imaginable it is to sit here watching paul simon in 2022, when in my mind i am still 16 still hearing this on the radio back around '70, time stops for no one, so glad for the memories
He humbly says thank you to the crowd.....no sir....thank YOU for everything you have given us over the many many years. It is we who are thanking YOU. ❤
I remember seeing his and Art on the “old friends” tour and amazing that they were in their 60’s. I think they were 62. Now I am 62. Times marches on. Just wow. A legend.
Watching this, you can feel the energy. Between this and Joni Mitchell's appearance.... it seems as if the 2022 Newport Folk Festival will go down in history as one of THE epic events. The opportunities are waning. Cheers to my alternate hometown for making this still happen every year... and for making it meaningful. Wish I had been there.
Beautiful. We'll be losing these folks soon, the giants of songwriting of the 60s and 70s. I don't know if it's just because their songs are ingrained in me since childhood or the nature of our fragmented digital media, but I'm not sure we'll ever see the likes of them and their work ever again, where a multi-generational crowd knows these songs and can sing along like this.
I feel the same way. Not only are they giants in the music industry but they are the fabric of my lifetime. When they go, a part of me will go too. Thank goodness we have their music to keep us company on those cold & dreary days. My favorite Paul Simon songs are "Old Friends" & "Bookends". When they turned 70, I wondered how they felt about those 2 songs; I bet their meanings were deeper. Now they're almost 81 & G-D bless them always.
@@dee_dee_place I agree, I am 70 years old I don't dwell on dying but when I see my old heroes And their voices have changed and they are fragile, It makes me very emotional. Maybe I'll get to see them again someday. Peace out

Awesome Paul Simon ! Wow everyone This is what our world needs more of ♥️
If I was there, I just might have cried. Beautiful.
It's so hard to see the heroes of your youth get old and frail. You somehow believed that could never happen. But their music and their voices remain almost timeless within you.
Brilliant! So nice to hear Jerry Douglas!
One of the best songs and artist ever! Many thanks!
This is music.
Excellent!
So so beautiful......❤
Fantastic ! Thx for sharing!
Wow. This would have been so cool to see in person. You all were very lucky.
I am about to watch this for the first time and I cannot say how exciting it is to see my favorite songwriter and my favorite band play. God Bless Paul Simon.
Folk music indeed 👏👍👌❤️
The most beautiful voice on that stage to my ear is the sweet tone of Jerry Douglas's resonator!
No disrespect intended to the legendary Paul Simon, though! What a songwriter!
@@dereknolin5986 But this is State's Exhibit #1 as to why old singers whose voices are but a very poor shadow of their former efforts should admit they just can't do it anymore. sad to see and hear.
@@MrWahooknows My comment wasn't meant to be about how anyone's singing voice was bad; it was instead about how awesome the legend Jerry Douglas is! I'd rather listen to his Dobro than most singers of any age.
Playing a Dobro slide guitar that well takes many, many years until you aren’t playing it as much as it becomes an expression of you.
@@wadesorchids7219 I've been teaching myself squareneck reso for about 5 years now. It took me a good six months of playing several times a week just to get to the point where I could consistently play in tune. I play a lot of different instruments, but lap steel/ Dobro is definitely one of the harder ones. Check out AJ Ghent's slide guitar to hear another amazingly expressive player!
The years just melt away from 1974 until now.
Sou fã desse gênio, suas músicas nunca envelhecem, pois tem qualidade e poesia.
A good old song never dates, just matures with age.
What a legend! That was awesome!
Paul runs among angels
I remember seeing him perform this song on SNL just after 9/11 and it just seemed so poignant and perfect for him to play that song "Live From New York" on that particular day.
i am leaving, i am leaving/ but the fighter still remains. thank you, old/young man.
So good to see Americans being beautiful
