This was the closing night of Newport. I had the pleasure and privilege of being 6rows from the center stage!!! I am now 80 yo and grew up with folk music. Spent the early 60's at Club47, the BitterEnd etc. This lady was, is and will forever be my favorite singer/song writer. So many of my best memories of youth and young adulthood revolve around her music. I will be forever grateful to her for those memories. Thank You Joni, i wish i had better words to say it but thank you!!! And to Brandi Carlisle i will be forever greatful to you for all you have done to bring her back to us !!!!!!

Some people transcend genres, gender, color, time. She belongs to no one and everyone. You want to find yourself? Listen to her songs. You will find yourself in her songs. Listen to the original recordings then listen to her now. It’s timeless. I think this version is far more profound than the original. I cry every time I hear it. A lot of life was lived between both versions. A true visionary
Me too, so many tears. Joni's older alto voice expresses deeper meaning, more experience, and the bittersweet passage of time so much better than her younger crisper voice. Perhaps, I appreciate her seasoned voice more now as I also age.
Listen to the original recording, then listen to her now, I would cry too, that's because time has no mercy, and everyone will get old and die.
@@rustynail246 you’re missing the beauty of it… she wrote and sang the song as a young woman and then sang it as an older woman - in between that time she lived her life and aged into her song. It’s like the young Joni singing to the old Joni and maybe vice versa. And if you’re lucky enough, you’ll live to be older, too, and will be able to look back on the tapestry of your life to see how this song is true for you, too.
@@chrisbrunelle39 No, no, no you are totally missing the point. When those songs were written, time seemed to stand still, and your youth would last forever. Until you found out that you couldn't drag your feet to slow the circle down. One day you wake up, look back, you are so fg old, and so much are left undone in your life, and you are about to meet your maker, there's no positive spin about this. Sad.
Yes aging can be sad, if we look at it that way. It is still a beautiful song no matter how old the singer is.@@rustynail246
I love all of her songs but this one has to be my absolute favorite. It's all about life and it's absolutely timeless. Long may she continue on her journey xx
A hundred years from now they will be listening to Joni Mitchell. They won't be listening to Taylor Swift. She is truly a legend and in my opinion the greatest of all time

Her catalogue of music is a vast treasure trove of special memories for all of us that were lucky enough to be around throughout her whole career. Good God, no. Don't saddle her with that nonsense which she didn't buy into. She trod her own path, she saw the right and the wrong in the ideas of her time, the good AND the bad of the "Hippy Generation". Her entire impact on the world springs from her independence of mind, she is no movement or generation's High Priestess. To adopt her as the representative of anything is to have failed to see her utter uniqueness.

Outstanding performance for a woman who had to sit in the chair because she can't even stand, But boy can she sing as if she was back in the '60s her voice sounding like it never aged.😊 God bless you, Joni
