"If" is a gift to Joni's fans as her last studio recording. And "Young At Heart" magnifies the goodwill she has for her fans. Joni is the gift that keeps on giving. I'm 64 now and began listening to her when I was 9! She has enriched my life a great deal. I never waivered in my admiration for her, regardless of any period or change she made.
THIS is what life is about. With this much love, we can survive anything! Thank you Joni, Brandi, Tim, Phil and all of the other wonderful people there.
Amazing to sing like that at such an age and after such a health issue. She still has that presence, the gestures, the timing. We should all do so well!
Hi Mike, thank you for sharing Joni's performance at The Gorge Amphitheatre! I absolutely enjoyed seeing Joni perform with the help of some of her very, very supportive friends and of course, the tremendous support of the vast audience gathered to see, hear, and to revel not only in awe but to the brilliance that is 'ALL' Joni. Great to see this!!! Wishing her a full recovery and to doing some more performances at her leisure.💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
Joni's genius is more and more evident with time. Health and age conspired to change her voice and give her an entirely new and different instrument, and she mastered it to make it musical. Such a transition. There is music inside her that comes out despite all she has been through.
Thanks again @Mike Russell! I learned to sign Circle Game almost 50 years ago. I was very rusty but most of the signs came right back so while tears streamed, I was able to "sing" with Joni! And you captured the beauty of Joni's finale and her being howled back for the encore. I will replay over & over again, while I relish the memories of actually being there!
@@janelliott679 I hope you do it. It's the most beautiful, picturesque song! I can't sing a note but when I sign I feel as if I'm singing as expressively as Joni! I don't know if signs have changed over the decades or if interpreted differently in different areas but I was taught to interpret some words more concretely. So "drag your feet to slow the circles down" became "you wish time moved slower", "until the last revolving year is through" became "man becomes old and dies". Even "round and round" was signed differently at different parts of the chorus.
Thanks so much for taping this magical evening. I was pretty melancholy after watching her performance at Newport last year. I admired her courage in doing a show, but I feared we had lost the Joni I grew up with. Thankfully, I was wrong about losing Joni, as she came alive on stage on June 10. Her days as a soprano have long since passed. However, her vocal range as a contralto enriched her songs. Her phrasing is impeccable! Thanks, Mike, for posting this!
Neil Young created the song “Sugar Mountain “, which offered the view that once adulthood was reached, it was all downhill from there. Joni created “ Circle Game” to counter his dismal view. What a well crafted, beautiful song.
Give Neil a little more credit. He wrote that tune on his 19th birthday! Joni was friends with him already, and wanted to write a song to counter it, to give both herself, and Neil, hope for growing older. Both songs are beautiful, and have endured throughout the ensuing decades.
I have loved Circle Game forever. How ironical that the company that I work for uses it in there orientation. Love you Joni from an Ontario Canada fan. 🇨🇦🌹
Joni Mitchell is my idol. I feared I would never see her perform live. God bless Joni's determination to recover and now perform for all of us. The Gorge should always be filled with as much love and happiness as we all felt that night.
I'm so happy to see Joni on stage again, I didn't think we would. She's grinning ear to ear because she's missed it so much. The Greatest Minstrel Of Our Time.
And what is more .. Joni Mitchel. that was so good liked your words coming in to make it current for you… great performance too Brandi had s beenna tonic for you
