- On this episode of Bens Worx i make a homemade pressure pot for casting resin, i use some simple plumbing parts including 2 threaded couplings 2 screw on lids and a spacer. its important to get the thick walled piping to hold the pressure. in this video i will be showing you that you can get great results from low pressure casting.

Thanks for watching! #resin #diy #epoxy #bensworx - Хобби
I've watched and watched so many other DIY pressure pot builds with various materials and I really like the simplicity of this design. Surprisingly I was able to find everything at our local Canadian Tire but give me Bunnings anyday! I will be using ABS though as the 4" diameter (100mm) is non existent in our little town. Thanks for sharing this build, it's greatly appreciated.
Holy cow, it's that easy? To the hardware store!
Could you find those fittings?
Omg. This is the easiest I've seen. I've wasted so much resin bc of bubbles and I've tried everything but a pot was too expensive but with this I cant wait. The fact u can use a bike pump is awesome. I have an air thingy I bought for the old mans garage so I'll use that. Thank you so much
Just watched one done with a bucket, but this seems much stronger and safer. Can't wait to try this out!
That's awesome Ben! Great video thanks, I'll be making one.
Thanks Carl!
You know you’ve made a great video when you get a comment from Carl Jacobson. That must have made your day.
What products do you need to make one
I was just thinking about whether something like this could be done & it's so great to see how you did it, so thank you!
Wow! I've been needing a pressure pot but have a tight budget. I think I can do this.
Cool design!
Just keep in mind that PVC can shatter, especially if left exposed to sunlight for a long time (UV will degrade the plastic after some number of months or years), frequently pressure-cycled or has a weak point, and will throw dagger-like shards.
Love you so much ben's... This is the way i need! Cheers
Truly exceptional work
yup, i'll need to make one of those
Great video Ben. I’ve hit the subscribe button after watching. I’ll definitely be giving it a try.
Thanks Byron!
Great! I never knew it is so simple!! good job-
Thanks Mate
Where did you find those caps I can’t find any with seals to save my damn life
They don't even sell the screw on caps at Home Depot. You could probably go d a strip of rubber and do it yourself though
Dude I love your shows I watch your videos and it doesn't even bother me that your from New Zealand.
Hahaha ok thanks
I wanted to try casting a few clear dice, but couldn't justify buying a pressure pot just for those few dice. I'm going to build one of these, thanks so much for sharing!
How did it go? Were they clear?
Thank you Ben!
No worries mate!
Great job and good test example to go with it :) Thank you ॐ
Thanks Mate
This is brilliant! Thank you!!!
👍
Bro, thank you so much for this tutorial. This is exactly what I need for my upcoming projects
No worries mate
That's fantastic thank you
That is a nice little pressure pot!
I would so buy this!
I've been thinking about getting a pressure pot, maybe I'll just make one. Great video sweety
Thanks MaMa!
It might be worthwhile to try testing the bursting strength and/or the safety release pressure by putting the unit in a bucket, or a cage of chicken wire, then put it up to full pressure past where you'd normally operate it.
Cool test on the cheap!
Good idea Don! I’ve made smaller pressure chambers before that have held over 60psi, but it still would be nice to know
If you're going to pressure test, fill with water first.
MOST PVC has a pressure rating already, typically something over 100PSI
@@TemplarIRL that is liquid pressure though, and gas pressure is VERY different, as gas expands/compresses a lot more under pressure, There are TONS of warnings against air pressure in PVC, and rightfully so, as you're basically making a pipe bomb.
Though they still aren't super safe spending a 100$ or so on a cheap paint pressure pot would be leagues safer.
with things like these some extra cash is much preferable to perforated organs.
@@TemplarIRL This PVC is used for gravity not pressure pipelines. These pipelines are tested for leaks to 15kpa (2.175 PSI) a long way short of 60-80 psi needed to remove bubblesPressure vessels in Australia MUST meet Australian Standard 1210 Pressure Vessles
Thank you so much, the irony is i just want to cast a ball in my ice mold for a new shift nob in my jeep. My $1 bouncy ball is starting to split after a couple years baking in the sun. Hoping to find a good UV resistant epoxy as well.
Mate..that’s a creat build👏👏👏
Thanks Mate!
this was really nice and easy build
This is awesome. I’ve been wondering if it would be possible to make a DIY pressure pot. Thank you for making it so easy. :)
No worries Juliet, have a great day
You sir are a genius!
Thanks Nick!
Where did you get the caps? I have been looking in stores and online and I can’t find them.
great work, was just looking to buy a pot from the US, will be trying this first.
Thanks Peter
It would be nice top have the specs on those plumbing, it's not been easy top find it here in Brazil
Well done
awesome idea this would be a great tool for knife making you should try making hybrid blanks and see how it comes out
Thanks Mate! I will give it a try
Great!! I will have a go
Yiannis (Athens Greece)
Thanks for the video. This is awesome and such a money saver! Are the majority of these parts available at Bunnings? Also I was just wondering what size drll bit did you use for the pressure gauge to just screw in so easily like that?
Awesome thanks mate
This is really cool! Especially the low pressure working as well as it did on such a thick cast! I'm making a fairly large resin enclosure and need a 25 gallon or larger pressure pot/tank. Pretty sure I can get away with low pressure casting which should dramatically decrease the pressure vessels cost!
👍
@@BensWorx Was considering 24" pvc pipe and fittings until I noticed how much they cost 0.0
I'm thinking my only option is to buy 24 inch steel tubing, weld on supports and end plates or flanges and mill a threaded steel lid with gasket/o ring. Or use the over sized wing nuts and bolts approach for clamping the lid down.
Have you seen my video on converting a paint pressure pot?
@@BensWorx Yes, was looking at a 15 gallon CA technologies ressin casting pressure pot with 14.5" internal diameter, and 21.5" internal depth. But even that is to small for the larger castings I'll be doing. Length is good, it's the diameter that is too small and honestly cube or rectangular prism has a better footprint than a cylindrical pressure chamber.
Found a company called "PTI" or "Pressure-Tech inc.", they make custom pressure chambers/vessels. Having someone experienced make the chamber is only way I'll feel sort of safe around it when it's under pressure considering how large it is.
Buen vídeo❤
Thanks!
that is great
cool, where did you get the molds for the spheres?
Awesome! Just subscribed
Thanks Mate
Excelente !!👏👏👏🇧🇷🇧🇷
Thanks!
I'm do tired of bubbles in my resin projects but this is too small for some of my pieces. I've thought about somehow fitting up a pressure cooking pot with gauge and valve. Any ideas if that would work?
Great video 👍 thanks, I’ve just got all the things to make one but I have got 6” pipe,? hope it works just thought it mite give more options for different projects
👍
Hey Ben, I'm going to have a go at making this this long weekend! Were the holes you drilled for the gauge and release valve were threaded? Also I cannot find a release valve anywhere - is it necessary at such low pressures?
Nice and easy! Cheers Ben, liked and subbed :)
Wow. You are my hero. Thanks! Off to my nemesis HD to get the pesky bubbles out. Any ideas for larger pieces?
That's amazing and fantastic results will be make one of these to have some fun and extra dont cost the earth to make
Yeah they’re awesome
Ben's Worx do you think there would be a way of making a bigger one now proof of concept has been done still doing this method
Oh for sure!
Ben's Worx do you think it would stand up to being a vacuum chamber pressure or do you think could make one that would be ace to see
Maybe I will have to source a pump and try
If you add an inexpensive adjustable pressure relief valve, which you can set from 0-100psi, it will make this setup much safer. Pressure gauges fail and most accidents happen when filling and rapidly overshooting the vessels max pressure. If you stay around 30-50% of rated pressure and have an AUTOMATIC relief valve, it's much harder to get yourself into hazardous territory. But I'm confident it can still be done.... Gene pool what it is today....
thank u very mach .
👍
What was your source for the end cap with gasket? I cannot find one anywhere and I'm having issues with leaking at the threads even with using Teflon tape.
Am i able to put an actual cup of open resin in here to release the bubbles prior to pouring? Same goes with any open molds, do i have to leave it in overnight? And also can i put open olds into this. Without the pressure pulling all the resin out of the mold? Someone please answer id like to make on of these asap!
This is bad ass
Thanks!
Hi Ben, What would be an ideal pressure for acrylic resin. What would be the max pressure for your set up in this video? Thanks
Will this work to get silicone bubbles out as well
Great idea! Have you got a parts list for this?
I'd love to use those parts as well but I'm not familiar with plumbing/air parts so it'd be super handy to know exactly what parts are used!
What was that thing on side compressor meter?
Wow what a great idea especially when a pressure pot costs the thick end of £200 well done Ben 👍🏻
Thanks Dave!
I actually made this but I had to get real creative as I couldn’t find the same type of pipes. Which brings me to my issue. Instead of caps I had to use a Charlotte cap and plug. In order to keep air from escaping I culled around edges. My problem lies with the last plug, I obviously can’t culk around it because I need it for the opening, but air is escaping so I can’t build pressure. Any suggestions?
Well I'm off to bunnings today 😁
Love it...did you see the video on the 3.5 pickle barrel. It goes to 20psi. So I like yours I like his and I’m thinking about using my old pressure cooker. What do you think.
Whats the max pressure that this pot can take? Is there any advantage to ramping it up to say 40 PSI ?
Great video Ben. I want to make one for my DIY dentures as I cannot afford Denture cost. I am retired. However I have yet to fine a hardware store that carry the parts required. I wonder whether you can make one for me and what would be the cost plus shipping. Richard.
this is a really cool video.
Thanks
@@BensWorx your welcome, because I am going to be need this for a future project.
Now make some of those pendants with this. That's what I will be doing once I make one.
Yeah the quality is great for using such a low pressure, i will definitely be casting some pendants.
Is it possible to make a square pressure chamber for resin?
Thanks i make pot and workt
Thanks from holland
No worries mate! :)
Hey. Where do you buy the Parts in Holland?
Ben… did you tap threads in the cap for the pressure guage?
How is this with stabilizing resin?
Hey, great video. How much pressure can it hold, what do you think?
Will it still work if I make it longer?
hi ben, could i use this to remove the resin from my mixing cup, then take it out and pour? or does it need to be inside the chamber for the full cure time for the bubbles to pop??
Pressurizing resin doesn't pop bubbles, it shrinks them down until they're microscopic. Once the resin cures the compressed bubbles can't expand.
I can't find pipe with that large diameter in the UK, at least not with threaded end caps. Is there a name for it that would help me search, i no very little about plumbing apart from hooking up washing machines and bleeding radiators!
I appreciate you posting a how to. Im too broke to afford one of those $200 ones. But this, Im sure I can afford. Ps I love your projects!!
Thanks Sammi
@@BensWorx keep up the great work!! Im gunna try to use your method for a dragon egg without the lathe(i think thats how to spell it, if not my bad. Lol) my husband introduced me to your channel less than a week ago and ive been watching all your videos!! Ive just started getting into resin crafts and its sooo much fun!! But so expensive. Hahaha.
Awesome it’s really fun
How long does it last before starting to break down?
Thanks ben .
I'm going to re-purpose an old pressure cooker , similar method but in strong aluminium.
I was thinking of 40 P.S.I. untill i watched this .
👍
Rob, did you made the pressure cooker one?
@@cheroso1000 No , couldn't get one from anywhere , they have gone the way of the dinosaur . Made one out of soil pipe ( 160mm ) in the end . 500mm of pipe , one end a stop end and the other end a screw off end . I put a car tyre valve in the stop end and pressurised with a regular 12 volt tyre pump. All worked well and 40P.S.I. was achieved easily . I would say to be careful though because i could see the plastic bulging at that pressure . I wouldn't trust it to work over and over .
I simply can't find these pipes anywhere, did you buy it online? Can you send me a link? I'm in Brazil so it would be harder to find it here out of the blue.
@@cheroso1000 Sorry fella , i'm in England and even corner shops sell this pipe stuff. Brazil you say , lucky you ! Here in blighty it nearly snowed this morning and there was a frost .I'm sure you can at least enjoy the weather while on lockdown . Good luck with your pipe hunting , but the carriage from here to you would be in the hundreds of pounds my friend .
Hi Ben, what home brew shop did you get your pressure gauge from, I'm having a lot of trouble getting one.
It was a local shop in Brisbane, you can buy pressure gauges online too 👍
What works better, pressure or vacuum?
That's awesome, Ben! Let me ask you a question: I saw your other video with the new pressure pot and I'm asking myself if I can put larger and bigger pieces inside the pressure pot. If the pot is big enough, would it work fine? Do I have to put more pressure because of the size of the piece? Thank you very much!
Nope same pressure
Hey Ben this is a great little pp for my use. Question? Is the 18 psi the standard or do you normally go higher? I think I remember seeing you use 50 on your tank but that may be too high for this unit right?
So this is a pressure pot for acrylic denture curing. Do you add hot water to it or just pressurize air
Do you think that a freshsaved works the same with the bubbles of the resin in small quantities maximum 10ml?
Hi Karolina, I’m not sure I understand what you mean
I cannot find those caps at any hardware store here in the US. where can i order them?
What size thickness are the pipes
Hey Ben, how are you sealing the threaded cap? I'm using teflon tape but still losing pressure
More Teflon tape? Or use pipe sealing paste.
How high could that set up handle?
Thanks for the video n ideas!!! Keep up the great work
Hi Joeseph, Thanks Mate, I’m not too sure, I’ve had pvc tanks up to 60psi before but it all depends on wall thickness and the manufacturing process (using correct glue ect) i feel comfortable at 20psi and it seems to do a great job.
Ben's Worx ok thank you
Hi could you tell me where you got the parts for this pressure pot
Regards
Paul
I got the pot from Super cheap auto, and the fittings from bunnings Edit: sorry mate I thought this was the steel pot, I got the pvc pipe from Bunnings’s and the guage and pressure relief valve from a brewery supply shop and the tyre valve from a local tyre fitting shop
Have you tried seeing what the max PSI is for this?
You can use schedule 80 PVC to safely scale up the pressure, if wanting to. But great video, making one soon
Thanks Mate
Hi. Not sure if I will find something suitable with thread. Was thinking of using a glass jar with threaded lid. what say you using this with low pressure?
I wouldn’t recommend it. If the glass has a weak point and breaks under pressure it could get nasty
Hey bud.. nice video :-) what’s the name
Of the glue/cement you use for the project? Just want to make sore nothing pops? Thanks again
Thanks Mate, it’s high pressure pvc cement
What would you say the max psi would be?
I couldn't find the lids with the seal, so I made mine with a female coupling with threads and a Male end cap. I am trying to use ptfe thread sealing tape so air doesn't escape, but it falls off every time i take the lid off. What should I do?
did you solve it?
@@ikkiiiieee honestly no, but someone actually gave me a pressure pot so I no longer have use for the one I made similar to this.
Might be late to this vid but how much pressure max can this hold?
Where can I get the caps in this video?
Somebody know how I can order the parts, I'm looking in many places. But I can't find the parts.
amazon/ebay
antonio perez this will sound like a joke, but seriously: I found two sets of gauges and pressure release valves at my local dump.
What's a safe max pressure for this kind of project? I image you can get a safety release valve that kicks in at lower pressure.
20 psi
Thanks Ben. I made one, very simple and would be effective If I could seal the threaded sections. the gasket alone wont seal the air. What did you use??
Mine is the same, you just have to tighten the crap out of it. I put mine lightly in a vise and swing off the lid
Ben's Worx would non hardening thread sealant help. We sell a variety at work that doesn’t go off like regular thread lock. It’s uses for sealing automotive threads that you still need to undo from time to time.
