- Many folks ask me what to learn to fly on. I always say "a high winger and something big enough to see."
This new SkyTrainer from NitroPlanes.com is big, penetrates the air, glides well, and does great aileron rolls, etc.
On a post note, the Nose Gear wheel pant and wheel are glued to the nose gear wire, It breaks easily, The only glue we found that would fix it, is Amazing Goop,

Thanks for watching and happy flying.

Thanks. I appreciate the encouragement.
I try to fly at least once a week. I most definitely have a blast everytime I fly her.
You have amazing skills. Until a couple days ago I had never piloted an RC plane. My neighbor a long time enthusiast asked me to try a new BiPlane kit he designed for first time fliers. He gave me a 2-3 minute verbal flight lesson and handed me the controls. See the video here by searching SlowBipe. I was TOTALLY blown away.
I'm no expert, can't speak with authority about strengths/weaknesses, but to pick up a control and solo with no experience was cool to me! Can't wait to get mine.
Trust me forrest225, if there was something wrong with the product, it would be mentioned. Dave is NOT a sell out. Never has been, never will be. If anybody would know, I sure would being his cameraman.
Happy flying,
Jeff
i have a 2.6m phoenix EPO glider. it has foam wings and a nylon moulded body. it can fly in winds but it's definitely affected by it. However, this thing flies like a real glider, no staggering. the speed and responses are slow and rollrates are slow, just like a real lifesize glider. i love it.
I got one of these! Its a beauty! Just love it!
looks like a sweet trainer for sure! good choice.
Great video. What a smart plane!
I love this plane, and I just purchased the airfield version. cant wait to fly it!!!!
Thats a sharp looking plane there!!
that fantastic. well best of flying to you!
Nice flying under wind conditions. I like the crosswind harrier landing Jeff, nice job.
the apprentice is a fantastic aircraft. i do not own one but i have flown it and it flies like a dream
finally a video featuring jeff... he seems to be a really nice guy.
Very nice video and review. You guys did an excellent job as always flying and the review. I got a few flights on my Nexstar select and i'm happy to say that i'm doing pretty good flying her. I will try to post a video of it flying as soon as I can. Happy flying to you both.
Chad
Another phenomenal video Dave. 5 stars and great flying!
Nice one Jeff - looks like a cracking model and flies really well. A job well done sir!
that thing really does look awesome I'm thinking about buying this particular model will be my first airplane ever I am excited I wanted the e flite apprentice but it's a little bit more money and I think this one wouldn't be bad for a starter plane it's very big that's for sure and it looks like you guys fly it very well thanks for such a cool video of my good friends
That porn music rocks dude. ....perfect for my kinda rc flyin
they look like hillbillys. geat porn music
@@GasCanZa no, they just look like good folks to fly with. music was indeed good.

I THINK IVE JUST FOUND MY FIRST PLANE.
Im gonna get this for my Grandad, old sod's bored since he retired.
FLYING! Yeah baby!
5 stars!
Just ordered mine for my club the Rams in Flagler beach Florida. Thanks for the info my friend.
Thank you kindly for the great compliment!
Jeff
thank you nightflyyer! i am looking into a new 4 channel plane to add to the challenge after i get better at my 3 channel mini super cub. i think i found the right one! thanks!
That wasn't that bad of a crosswind by Jeff. Nice job guys!
Been interested in getting this plane as I'm getting back into the hobby after a few years hiatus. At least you two have the balls to actually do some basic aerobatics with the plane and not fly it around in circles like the other reviewers.
Not sure where you can still get this plane today, as I made this video 13 years ago and even mine was destroyed in the fire. It was a great plane though. Thanks and happy flying.
Jeff & Dave; Nice building & Flying Review ! Thanks for the Video !
Yeah it's good to see some larger electric trainers becoming available now.
i saw that Bud under the counter LOL. Happy flying ... and sippin! Love the vids keep em comin
Wow! Nice job Jeff. Great choice Dave! As good as pilots you are, you have some nerve to fly surrounded by a cornfield and powerlines. Once again, Great video!
I smashed mine once then totaled the rebuild.I have know started flying on the simulater and let me tell you,if I had done this before trying to fly it,I would be a really good pilot!Thank you.I have ordered another!
great video looks like a really smooth flyer wish i had a bud to fly with, you 2 have so much fun together none of my friends like rc stuff so im the loner out on the country lots by my house lol lol love watching your vids
Very nice!
Fantastic!!!
good job man
That landing made me laugh my butt off! :)
THANKS!!!!! JUST WHAT I NEED!!!
if you close your eyes and listen too the video it sounds like a 1970s porn movie lol
I totally second that lol
nice job
yep, don't let it get to you Jeff and Dave, nobody HAS to buy anything if they don't want to, I look at all your vids guys and bought nothing so far. But love your work for sure !
Nice one!
Very nice plane

Thank you kindly.
Jeff

nice vid dave and jeff :)
sounded like fred flintstone when you said, " wow we cant wait to see it fly man, lets get it together" at 2:26 no criticism :) :) nice vid
Awesome!
Very Cool!!!!
Thanks much. This vid is 10 years old. Wow, I'm getting old!
Yeah I had one, It was great to fly. I Flew it around a HUGE park and playing field but the front wheel folded up on the slightest hard landing so that had to be modified which was easy with a stronger sprung steel shaft but for such a great plane it really let it down. The Crows are territorial and used to come out and try to chase me away and I had the hole park watching me dog fight with the crows. But they can't do loops and I could. One actually grabbed a wing with both feet and sort of threw it away. Man it was fun. But the landing gear (front) was rubbish.
The answer to my modifications was that I drilled a 1/4" hole fore and aft and inserted a wooden dowel and left 3/4" protruding at each side. I then glued the wings together, and gorrila glue duct taped the seam white. I then attached the wings with large rubber bands, and carefully placed them over a reinforced trailing edge and leading edge with tape. (I couldn't fabricate a plastic edge)
muy bueno .
les mando un gran saludo desde Argentina.
!!!awesome!!!
Hey! Love your videos- they inspired us to start shooting ours. I just came across this old one, and as I watched I remembered a LONG time ago seeing you use a tiny "screwgun" which looked like it may have been made from a servo or something like that. Do you actually have a tool like that? Thanks- Steve
Bixler or skysurfer is the best choice for a beginner,I bought my brother one and he was flying perfect and doing stunts in about 3 days with little instruction from me.For $150 including shipping you get plane, battery, charger and transmitter and a tough plane.Hes crashed a few times and hasn't broken anything.
The reason I said what I said was because if you go to Nitroplane's channel here on RUclips, they have been using footage and whole videos of Dave's. Now that makes me believe that they have a deal going on. I still love the videos Dave makes, I am just saying it makes it a little hard to believe how great stuff is when you have a deal with the company. Nothing personal with Dave, I love the work he does.
looks lust like my Skyartec (only larger) its great! I had to change the tx &rx to 2.4g it came in on 35mgh and I live in Kansas so... but this looks great also I love the size of it!!
muy bueno el sesna .aca siempre siguiendo tus novedades Night muy bueno aca no se ven con esa calidad ni precio saludosss
great video. 5 stars. finally a good video that shows a 4ch trainer. what is the range on that transmitter though?
Good advice about getting a qualified pilot to help. As a RC test pilot and instructor, for learning purposes, I would reduce the control throws about 40%, easily done with a computer radio. Also I would make sure the wing strut anchors are glued firmly in place before any aerobatics are attempted. Nice video.
Yea, so did mine! mine came with everything but the 110V-240V Power Adapter! I already contacted them through live chat and their missing items/damages forum and they both said they would send me a new one.
And thank you for your service! B CO 1/16 INF
2) It is very easy to destroy the the steering / tail servo if you are not extremely easy with the landings. Always take the plane down with the main landing gear first to minimize the shock on the nose wheel and stay away from uneven tracks. Replace this servo with a new with metal gears.
Always do a pre-flight check..I learned that from my real flight instructor. But that should apply to RC's too.
Thanks Jeff!
Love my EDF flying, but I'm looking for a great stable trainer that I can buddy box on. Think this is it!
I just ordered the latest version of this plane. It now comes with 2.4ghz and says the landing gear is improved. Decals are a bit different, as well.. I am very excited.
nice 👍👍👍
I have one of these but want to set it up for SAFE mode flying. Awesome airplane. I painted mine military olive green and put military decals on it.🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸
This video was made 11 years ago, so it's good you still have one. Happy flying.
Dsave... The music. I gotta know what that is? I just love the music!! Groovy!
Seriously though, another great video.
Cheers,
-J
Thats a well balanced airplane
I ran with the stock setup from the start and it worked well, however it needed a good length of runway to gain speed before liftoff. Taking off to early and you could easily find yourself in a mild stall with a tendency of flipping over to the left. Hope you have checked the servo reverse switches on the radio to ensure correct orientation on the aileron, rudder and elevator.
also that a sick plane
holy shit that is 1 big trainer plane
Great job on the flights guys. BTW is Jeff still flying these days Dave?
I have converted the cabin to plastic glass for fpv just waiting to upload the video ofter edinting
Man the C182 makes my F-15 look like a toy plane!
thats a pretty nice plane. it is huge though, thats almost impossible to not see in the sky. Anyway, nice video as usual.
you have to get it while they have it, when there out, there out!!!
So this was my trainer, could I go for a parkzone warbird next? They are considerably lighter, of course faster and more reactive too.
I personally have the apprentice I have one hour experience Since I bought it I'm flying the plane in advanced mode have an experience with the simulator is a great plane to start out with my experience has been Hitting the trees in the park no room to fly Too many obstacles In the park I have broken the body and two pieces Put it back together Guerrillas glue and is holding up together well And there is parts available
i just ordered one. it gets here tomorrow ill let you know
that looks like 200 bushel corn. Nice plane too..gonna get it
You are very welcome.
im gettin a corsair first model plane i will have ever owned im very excited
yes it does. it specificly says that it comes with a ''110V-240V Power Adapter'' and the nitroplanes people already told me they would send me one.
I would've been tempted to land it in the corn field! Of course I'm a beginner, so that would've been the safer option for me. Nice plane though. Think I might have to upgrade from my hobbyzone delta ray.
Wow, this is an old video for sure. Jeff Got a job, got married, and became involved with Geocaching (something he and his wife could do together,) so he doesn't fly much. Thanks and be well.
@GoatZilla and not only that...having a gas trainer makes you think and learn about other aspects of aviation, like properly understanding your plane, having the correct tune for the day, learning to fly with something that can "cut out" and be deadstick. this will teach the beginner to do deadstick landings by force. i know it sounds funny, but you learn faster. makes you think quick. and at the end of the day, if you really love this hobby...you will eventually have a gas plane anyway...
nice
Just an fyi this plane is infamous for being tail heavy... needs weight in the nose..and a good way to do this is to add a larger battery..get the wieght from the larger battery and longer flight time. So works both ways for ya. Hope that helps.
Could you try and review the new Eflite Apprentice "S". I'm pretty sure that you will love that airplane as soon as you try it. Thanks for your good videos.
@toakreon a nice model but you need to reinforce the wing bolts with a plywood plate. On my 3rd flight I decided to try some extreme 3D stunts and the wing broke off in mid air pulling a high G pull out from a dive into a loop. The foam broke right out around the bolts. No worries. I replaced the nose cowl, prop and added the plywood plate and she flies again.
I bought this plane some time ago. As you said it looks really good and is very stable in air. However I soon started hating it because:
1) The nose wheel coat is badly designed and does not take much punishment and the mounting easily breaks off. My dealer recommended to reinforce the 'hat' where the steel rod mounts to the coat with epoxy.
Yup..I just got my hands on Phoenix RC simulator. I Definitely think it was necessary. I'm using it with my XBOX 360 controller. I have a Tactic TTX600 and it doesn't have a buddy box port.
this looks like the super cub
Hey Dave! I recieved my sky trainer today and assembled it. All the electronics work fine. BUT! They forgot to include the wall adapter!
I bought two of these...one blue and one red. Both planes had major wiring problems and both had wings that did not match up with the bolts and holes. I got them from Banana Hobby. Out of the 26 planes I have bought, these were the worst to build and worst to fly. But, yes, they are pretty to look at...but then again...so are "grounded" models.
It may be sunny, but it's also always windy.
Hey I had a question, I know your busy, love your videos! But I was wondering, a lot of the rtf planes you and Jeff review come with an fm transmitter, I was curious if you can buy extra receivers for these radios in case I wanted to use the same one for an ARF bind and play plane. Keep up the good reviews!
