- My rough draft of a Eurobeat edit of the second racing scene of Initial D (2005). I started watching this movie, expecting to hear the iconic Eurobeat soundtrack from the anime. When the soundtrack turned out to be extremely lame, I decided to try editing Eurobeat in instead. This is the result...
I did this with Adobe Premiere, knowing absolutely nothing about A/V editing going in. If anything sounds weird, it's because the dialogue and SFX were on on the same audio channel as the music. So I had to try covering up the original soundtrack by lowering all the original volume, or butchering it with some filters. Sometimes I had to mute the original sound altogether.

The whole movie makes Bunta look like a crazy addicted alcholic and a non-caring dad when in the anime Bunta always asked Takumi what happened after the races, drank once in a while but not too much, and really cared about Takumi. He taught Takumi how to drive differently and taught him some amazing skills that really made him good. He helped Takumi be who he is today
he definitely smoked a lot, more scenes with him on a cig than without

Never watched the movie itself, but from the clips I’ve seen I must agree.
Fun fact, the actors are trained by professional race driver and performed solely by these actors during actual filming.
I agree, the races were the only thing redeemable throughout the entire movie. Everything else was just bad and ruined the image of my BOI BUNTA the God of Drifting, litterally turned him into a Drunkard abusive dad. Nothing gets me mad about this movie but Bunta...

I have no interest in Initial D without Keisuke. He is such an integral character to the story and just putting his attributes on Nakazato and Ryosuke is really half-assed. As he states in his first uphill battle in Tochigi, "I am D's ace".

I hate how the movie changed every character, but the driving scenes were actually quite impressive. I wish there's a proper Initial D movie, but with the original story line and characters.

Disappointed that they didn’t use Eurobeat in the movie. It was cool that they used the real life location that the manga was based off though.
I think they went with songs that people would actually listen to at the time to be able to sell them, just like how Michael Bay changed Bumblebee from a beetle to a hecking Chevrolet. That and Eurobeat is often considered more campy.

I really enjoyed watching Initial D on Netflix, one of the best movies I have seen on Netflix ever!!! I am so grateful this movie is avalible in UK region or I wouldn't be able to watch it, this movie is a blessing

Apart from how modern this 16 year old film looks, and how amazingly good the driving is, my favorite part is 4:39, when Ryoskue takes out his ear piece knowing that Takumis won before the race has been called.

B: Takumi’s Dad was supposed to be drunk
I watched the beginning of the anime and liked it but that was years ago
It wasn't included here but when takumi's dad was talking about his vision and how it was 20/20, his dad got pissed and there was a scene where he beat the shit out of takumi.
The movie is inconsistent with the anime. Bunta is a chainsmoker, but he was never portrayed as a drunk in the anime afaik.

They're actually Chinese actors with some of Japanese actors
Depends where you watched it. It was filmed with each actor speaking in their native language (Jay Chou in Mandarin, Anthony Wong in Cantonese, the actress who played Natsuki in Japanese), and then they dubbed the movie into Mandarin/Cantonese/Japanese depending on the territory it was released in.
The really should have gone with licensing some sweet Eurobeat tracks, though.

The dude’s in an AE, he’s a speedy boi and things get slower for him the more the race goes on, Takumi is the ultimate racing machine
This felt like a really strange combo/passion project. Japanese franchise, Taiwanese main lead was a singer debuting as an actor, Hong Kong directors, Chinese/HK actors, filmed in actual Japanese countryside and they combined different things from different Initial D eras.
"Chinese/HK actors" so that's why @3:09, the lips sync was not good. It's because there were not speaking Japanese and they most likely dubbed everything in post prod.

@@ArkayeCh Gotta compromise man... Somebody will be dubbed in any combination. Mogi and Kenji speaks Japanese, Bunta, Itsuki, and the RedSuns Brothers speaks Cantonese, Takumi speaks Mandarin. None of the lips is going to sync all the time.

acceleration from 0-100 in a few seconds is one thing, having a stable speed and being able to move in a closed space without losing center is the secret of a perfect drift

Despite how this movie botched a lot of characters, it really wasn't that bad. Makes me wish for a live action show that actually adapts the manga/anime faithfully.
I love how in the 90s all Japanese car makers made models that were basically designed for street racing, and they just kept topping each other. We will never have that again.

カーアクション自体は普通にクオリティ高くて面白いんだがな...
