@@kansashoneybadger7899 well why are you quoting Old Testament scripture?. I’m a Christian. I thought you were too. We live under the new covenant not the old. Now we are allowed to defend ourselves, whether as individuals or nations which is why st Augustine developed the theory of the just war. Jesus told the apostles hen people won’t hear you and reject you, shake the dust off your feet and move on to the next town. There was tremendous violence in the Old Testament and Christ died on the cross to fulfill the Jewish law and give all of us the opportunity for salvation. The OT is a good learning tool for the run up to christs ministry but I live by the words of Jesus Christ.

I visited a Hallmark Greeting Card store recently. In the store was a standalone display of purportedly "Christian" merchandise. ( anything - even outright pandering - to make a profit ) One of the items on the display was a tea towel with the following message printed on it: "Be Nice; Jesus said so." This is the world's view of the Christian faith, and it is a tragic caricature both of the truth, and of the message of Jesus Christ, who is the Truth. Let us so act as Christians as to give the culture a true picture of our Saviour and Lord.

I was taught “niceness” when I grew up in the church of Christ and the baptist church.
In my opinion, this has been a very destructive mindset because it prevents you from calling out evil, and from being assertive as a follower of Christ should be.
I am currently trying to reprogram myself from “niceness” but I think I still have work to do. My aim is not to be a “nice man” but a “good man”

I don’t think Baptists have a problem with calling out “evil”.

It means we love someone so much that we tell them they’re doing or saying something wrong. If you loved your child you give them the most bitter medicine if it meant they were to get better. In this same way love demands that we sometimes take someone outside of their comfort zone for the sake of their betterment.

Being kind involves having a genuine concern for others and acting with compassion and empathy.
Kindness often requires a deeper level of emotional engagement and effort. It involves understanding and addressing the needs and well-being of others, sometimes at a personal cost.
Volunteering to help someone in need, offering sincere emotional support, or performing acts of generosity without expecting anything in return.
Being nice refers to being polite, pleasant, and agreeable in social interactions.
Niceness is more about maintaining social harmony and avoiding conflict. It often focuses on surface-level interactions and pleasing others.
Saying polite words, smiling at people, or giving compliments to make others feel good in a social context.
In summary, kindness is about genuine care and proactive actions to improve others' well-being, often driven by empathy. Niceness is about maintaining pleasant social interactions and being agreeable, often motivated by a desire to be liked or to avoid conflict.
While being nice is ok, I believe the Lord cares more about kindness than anything else because being kind is being honest with someone out of love no matter how it makes them feeel because you deeply care for them , while being nice is just wanting to appease to make them feel better . Jesus was not a nice guy he was always honest with everyone no matter how it would make them feel. Because He came for the salvation of his people , not to make them feel fuzzies and butterfly’s in there stomach

Just be straightforward don’t sugar coat. Don’t think of it as confrontation but that you are having a conversation about something that is wrong. If they choose to justify, deny, manipulate, or yell at you. Understand that, accept it, and move on. But if someone is willing to hear you out and repent you have done good in restoring them. If someone is not under obedience to you (or even a Christian for that matter) do not immediately correct, “that would imply you have authority over him and are not just giving advice.” Which may lead to arguments and drive both of you further into the arms of the enemy.
When it comes to yourself, when you are called in some way to profess the truth, with out fear confess it. When it comes to others remember it took Jesus laying hands on the blind man twice for him to see clearly (mark 8).

Once his brother ( both were in the 30s) got punched in the mouth. My dad heard about it. Keep in mind my dad was German and Italian and looked like Rambo..( no joke)..aviator glasses long hair..army fatigue pants..a few tattoos. Not a dude you want to play with..anyhow after he heard his brother was punched in the face...( I was a kid) we spent the whole afternoon driving from house to house because my dad was knocking on doors looking for the guy that punched him. I think we found the house but the guy was hiding inside afraid to come out. I think if he did come out, it would've been a bad day for him..trust me. My dad was livid! But as a kid I thought..what's the big deal..forget about it. When I got older..I thought..wow..he really loved his brother and he was personally insulted that someone would do that to his brother who was kind of slow..and a really small guy. Basically he brother was being picked on in his 30s...but my dad was the opposite...again not a dude you'd want to cross. As Christians we get hung up on niceties..I know in God's eyes my dad was doing the right thing. Protecting his family.

You know who also strives to be nice to people above all else? Cults. It's a manipulation tactic, being nice when there's nothing nice about sin is deceitful and manipulative. I'd rather be honest and say the truth (with as much gentleness and reasonableness as is possible, but sometimes when confronted by certain sins there's no nice way to call a spade a spade), rather than never say anything so I can make sure I'm not being "judgemental", because I'm scared that then I might lose my moral high ground. I have none. I'm terrible, but I'm not going to lie and manipulate people by pretending to be something I'm not. Ultimately, I have no power to win people over, it's the Holy Spirit that does that. And I can only help with whatever goodness He endows me with. If you read the old testament, goodness isn't always being kind to people. It also involves truth, which can hurt. Proverbs 27:6

Telling people they're ill just drives them away. My goal as a Christian is to bring people to God as I have been brought to God and if I partake in pushing people away from the message, God have mercy on me. By justifying not being nice to others, you are justifying your own desire to pass judgement on others which belongs to God alone and is a sin. Your goal as a Christian, and my goal as a Christian is to be so good in contrast to the modern day, that people can't help but look your way. And when they ask how you live with so much peace and joy, you answer with the teachings of Christ. If you are truly good, then people will notice, and when you say it is through Christ, then the seed will be planted. You must avoid being the other prodigal son judging your brother living in shadows as if that gives you the Father's grace. No one likes a judgemental Christian, not even Christ.

I agree 100%. Christ makes it clear that passing unauthorized judgment on others is at least as bad of a sin as adultery. You also have to look at it from the other person's point of view. Even if you pure-heartedly don't mean to judge, it still very easily can seem as such. There is only one Converter. We can merely plant seeds of conversion with our own example.

@@richcook2007 Focus on living the truth before you focus on speaking it. You do not know others as God knows them. Their sin is not for you to judge. As Christians, our focus is not on judging who is the least of sinners, our focus is on how we gain redemption from sin. Please do not go to people to tell them their sins are dragging them to hell. Show them unwavering kindness, show them worldly matters do not affect you, show them that living like Christ is the only way to truly be at peace in this world. If you live like this, then people who are seeking will be led to you by God, and THEN you will tell them how you live like this. You cannot force someone to seek God. By proselytizing to those who are not interested, you are at best, annoying them, and at worst, driving them from the faith. Know your faith so that you can answer their questions, but also know the other person so that you may know what will get to them. God bless.

Who has only been handled with soft gloves, by "nice people".
And because of that, they have no idea what accountabillity is.
And the way to rectify that problem is to being the adult in the room and treat them accordingly with strictness and harshness, why?
Because if there is ONE thing people today cannot stand, it is to be put in their place while being treated as a toddler.
And this works gloriously, IF i hold myself to the exact same standard i measure others with.
But if a person allready holds a high standard and knows their shortcomings,

There is a moral maxim "if you are aware of abuse and do nothing about it you are complicit with that abuse." I think most people of good will would agree with this. Don't you? In light of that moral maxim this god of Abraham-- worshiped by the Jews, Christians and Muslims-- is horrendously immoral. This god is said to be all-powerful, all-knowing, omnipresent. So, he literally watches children being abused and tortured-- even by his own priests, pastors, rabbis and imams-- and does absolutely nothing. In light of that why would one expect any better from those who worship such a god? The three Abrahamic religious traditions-- and the "Western Civilization" they represent-- are a fail. They have done nothing but treat each other horribly for centuries. "Nice" isn't even on the menu with them other than as an 86d item.

      @ДрагошРобовић 4 месяца назад

The childish question you are struggling with was answered million of times in tens of thousands of books written from, roughly, first century AD, to last week, in this century. God is all-powerful, all-knowing and omnipresent. And God literally watches all the evil that men and men alone are doing, because of their free will. God gave us free will and we abuse it to steal, lie, kill and do even more sins, unimaginable sins. We, children of God, are abusing our gift of free will and God can stop us, but then He would be meddling with free will that He gave us. God wants us to love each other and love Him and He wants us to join Him under our own decision, thus we can decide if we will sin or do good. Most people choose to sin, because its easy, convenient and can bring things you like. And what about rabbis and imams? They are not Christian and tying their strings to Christianity is completely wrong. We all say we worship the same God and in sociology and history, our religions can be traced to the same root, but spiritually, Muslims and Jews are different world that cannot be compared to Christianity. Their "morality" includes unimaginable horrendous things as good, while Christian morality does not. Everything you know about morale was shaped by Christian scholars and Word of Jesus Christ. Now, if you want to give me evidence about Christian Church doing bad stuff, do not try to present some protestant Alabama Megachurch, or Utah cults, or Roman-Catholic papists as Christians. You can do better, all the questions you asked were answered long time ago by many priests, monks and philosophers. Just find those answers and continue your struggle until you resolve it.
