I suggest getting smooth patch instead and editing the text file that comes with it to cap the game to 60FPS. And there's also graphics rules and graphics cards files on one reddit post that make the game run super smooth.

Im a Family Game player and sims 4 is so lacklustre even with the amazing mods from creators, it’s just still not fun and the loading screens. But sims 3 you don’t need horse ranch, my first pet stuff, dogs and cats all you need is pets, that’s it, and in world adventures (THREE WORLDS) you can have pet crocodiles, they’re tiny, and other pets too.
And even tho the sims3 has rabbit holes at least it’s entertaining like the school it’s still all decorated and has sound effects of kids playing and teachers talking it’s cool. The kids too for once have personality and the teens unlike sims 4 where you also need high school years to slightly make them better. I also love in the sims 3 the different animations when they’re working on their homework. Just so much to it . I still have sims 4 just to play around in cas and cc but yeah .

I'm an avid TS3 player since its launch and all these years later I am STILL discovering gameplay features I had absolutely no clue about!
It's crazy how loaded with content this game is. And I don't even have all the expansions, just a few of my favourite ones.
One thing I've found out recently: if you go to the cemetery and launch fireworks, the ghosts will come out of their graves, thank your sim for the show and give them tips. It's hilarious! And it's such a minor detail most of players won't even discover! But they still went ahead and added it to the game. The sheer dedication!
Not to mention all sorts of crazy stuff you can get up to in TS3. In one of my favourite saves the family I played with had the philosopher's stone. I used to invite townies to move in and make them use the stone until it turned them into gold statues. I then used them to decorate the family's garden. And in the same playthrough I locked one of the children in the basement, where he grew up without ever going outside. It was so fun!
Anyways, love the review! I'm so happy you've discovered the joy of playing TS3. Truly one of the best sims games
TS4 is not egregiously bad, but... it's so sanitized. It has virtually no flavor. The sims there have no character and are basically a blank slate. I prefer my sims games with a little (or not so little) craziness and unpredictability in them.

Bruh, I'm so glad to see this video! OG simmers that have played Sims 2 and 3 kept telling the new simmers coming to Sims 4 that they were getting scammed! Lot of the new players ignored us, said we were haters, we should be more positive and we'll never be happy with anything and we're just complaining to complain. Now that Sims 4 is imploding like we warned, folks are trying older Sims games and FINALLY seeing the light! I'm happy but pissed off too, because had others listened earlier and stop throwing money at EA for a subpar game, maybe the game would be in a different state, or at the very least we'd get a bigger bang for our buck instead of being nickled and dimed for gameplay and features that should already be in the game, or having to buy a dlc for a dlc!

I just remembered two of my most favorite activities in TS3: the "hold your breath" challenge and "peek through the window", which is always fun to do because someone who lives there would run outside to shoo my sim away, but my sim would apologize and become friends with that angry person, which is absolutely not how it works in real life... 😥😥😥

Crazy to think TS3 came out in 2009! I've been playing the franchise since 2001 on the original game, and the jump from TS1 to TS2 in 2004 was INSANE. Some aspects in TS3 were nice (open world, which was a bit buggy on most 2009 machines), the color wheel, etc, but my personal favorite was TS2 with even more abilitiy for neighborhood customizations and more realistic genetics.
It blows my mind how much that came in TS4 base game that had to either be patched in (toddlers) or added in numerous packs just to match was in the base games of TS2 and TS3. I feel like EA took a MASSIVE step back with TS4, and it felt like a half-finished TS1 base game with better graphics.

My absolutely most beloved expansion is Adventures - and I can't stress enough how disappointed I was with Sims 4 attempt to do the destination worlds, which in comparison feel just empty and pitiful. Sims 3 gives you three open worlds with LOADS of exploration, logical puzzles, secrets, labirynths and TOTALLY stunning sceneries! I like to connect it with other gameplay elements, like photography. I don't know if you already discovered that, but there is something like a photo-album diary for players that like more "completionist"/"achievers" approach, which just kinda guides you to take your Sim into certain locations and certain situations to take photos of different objects, places, buildings, actions, social behaviours etc. etc. So what I usually end up doing (in pretty much every gameplay bcuz I'm addicted haha) is to take my Sims around the world, explore these open worlds and take stunning in-game pictures, which you can later hang on the wall and make a gallery :) In Sims 4 you also have photography, but come on, let's be honest: if a playable area of one neighbourhood consists of like 5 lots and you just cannot move outside these boundaries, then the sceneries are incredibly limited. Photography in Sims 3 is a way to go!
I'm really happy you liked the game (as a massive S3 fanatic I take that personally 🤣lol joke joke), I hope you'll feel that urge to keep exploring and have fun with it :) Also good luck with expanding your channel 💗 Best wishes!

the difference between the sims 4 and the sims 3 is that in the sims 3 you don’t need hundreds of mods to make the game fun. Its already packed with so much content that it never gets boring. The only mod i need for the sims 3 is the mod that adds more sims to lots because open world causes most lots to be dead or empty.

You don't NEED mods to make Sims 3 fun, but I LOVE my mods. There are a million of them out there to fix just about anything you don't like about the game, and they are free. Sick of only 1 lifetime wish (my pet peeve) - there is a mod that allows you to choose a new one after you complete the first. Hate the way your sim looks? There are tons of hair, clothes, eyes, make-up options. Looking for new animations? Yep - you can find them too. Want new neighborhoods? There are hundreds of user-created custom worlds. Want more jobs to choose from? Want your kids to be able to do more things? Almost anything you want to change can be changed to customize your game EXACTLY the way you want it. Once you get used to having your mods, you'll never want to go back to playing without them. LOL.

This is a very good first video! It's so interesting to hear the perspective from a player whose starting game was Sims 4! I'm also very glad you enjoyed the game, and that you actually were able to get it running well :> That is definitely the downside of trying to get people to actually enjoy the game, because not everyone has the ability to get it running properly!
    Also, just a few tips:
While I know it may not matter since the video is already made; you can get an application called Borderless Gaming which will allow you to run your Sims 3 in borderless mode, this way when you screen record, it won't have that filter over it that makes the video look so dark. Just in case you're ever up for making more vids in the future!
Next, you may have already done this, but I always urge people to make sure that they limit their FPS to their monitor's refresh rate (typically it's around 60 if not more.) This is because Sims 3, unfortunately, can be really harsh on your graphics card no matter how good your system is, due to the framerate being unlimited. The unlimited framerate can end up causing your card to burn out, but as long as you limit it, it's all good!
I just can't help but get worried when I see people possibly playing without limiting their fps. (Also, doing this just makes your game typically play even better anyway lol)
Also, as someone already said in your comments, getting a lighting mod you vibe with is a gamechanger!

    • @jakobeyplays
      @jakobeyplays  6 месяцев назад +7

Thanks alot! Def gonna look into Borderless Gaming. I swear new games always come on ultra settings with unlimited fps so I got used to switching that off immediately haha. Gonna go look at some lighting mods now, I appreciate all the suggestions!

i bought all of sims 3 expansions as they came out way back. i played vanilla the whole time and was never bored, i've clocked something close to 14k hours and swapped over to sims 4 in 2021, i was so sad that create a style was gone, i loved that you could customize to such a specific degree in sims 3, the fairies also not coming back and plant sims not being a full occult life state were big things that bugged me.
the cartoonish maxis style took a minute to grow on me but the cas for sims is great in sims 4, and some of the build buy options are things i wished i had in sims 3.
but the commitment to having dedicated sims populate a world and not have a whole lot of over lap helps with immersion. the careers were a blast, being an interior designers was fun. owning like half the town was fun if you wanted to explore all the side hobbies.
the last full expansion was into the future which added an entire new neighborhood that was in the (you guessed it) the future. but how you played in the present affected how that world looked. you could have descendants, and based on your household income they could be rich or poor, it could be one or 2 sims if you had a small family or it could be a full house if you have a bunch of kids. the future could be neutral-starting state, good-an eco paradise literally sunshine and rainbows or bad-dystopian with trash everywhere and sad beige and brown over tones and filters in the world. all of that doesn't even cover the new robots they added, with their own life states, skills, create a sim styles and build buy features that added life in new and fun ways.
all the big expansions felt like they had something huge to offer with new worlds and sims, even seasons which didn't come with new map brought the seasons festivals (and aliens).
sims 3 is a massive game with so much to offer and so many things to do even if you don't want to mod it, but there's still more out there if you do! i can't recommend it enough.

Useful if you want to turn off aging, or play as a vampire or plumbot, as they don't have a lifespan. There's also an Immortal Lifetime Reward. It's so worth it. It's even worth it to buy a USB dvd/cd drive for it honestly because those are also dirt cheap. Compared to the sims 4, I enjoy this game so much more. It provides hours of detailed gameplay. When you level up on guitar it sounds so good and all the stuff was recorded in studio with professional musicians. Nothing went to waste on this game. The sims 4 is a money grab. And also! The graphics really aren't THAT bad. I hate how close up everything is in TS4! I loved Sims 1 and Sims 2, and I played them both a lot in their day - but Sims 3 is by far my favorite. I paid like $70 for Sims 4 when it was first released, but I hated it so much that I returned it the same day for a refund and went back to playing Sims 3. A few years later, I picked up Sims 4 on sale really cheap with an expansion pack because I heard it had improved - but it still sucked, so again I went back to Sims 3.
Sims 4 shows that EA no longer cares about their customers gameplay experience. They are just a soulless, money grubbing corporation. It started in Sims 3 with the online store, but then they took it to ridiculous levels with Sims 4. They doubled the price for a quarter of the content in the base game, then they sold pathetically bare "expansion" packs to add in content that should have been included in the base game to begin with.
Sims 5 is going to have to be incredible, offer something different, and have great reviews by long time players of the Sims franchise for me to bite the bullet and give EA another chance.

the sims 2, however…i downloaded the sims 2 and i play it more than sims 4 at this point. its so fleshed out and alive! build mode is garbage, but ive never been a builder. im sure ill give ts3 another shot when i get a computer that can handle it lol

I wouldn't say the sims 3 is that different from the sims 2... Probably in CAS only. The Sims 4 is totally in another world and "alternative universe".

This is exactly sims 3 players are talking about. How did an OPEN WORLD possible back in the last decade and a half using only 3 gigs of RAM now with sims 4 i have a pc with 64gb of ram to give and it still CHOKES. that technological feat alone blows the technical genius of the sims 3 creators way above the sims 4 ones.

Here's the performance issue: The game engine doesn't recognize your graphics card so it thinks you don't have one and runs on the lowest possible performance settings. There's a few lines you can change in one of the ini files that fixes that (probably what the duchess patch does). Acottonsock has a very detailed guide on how to get the game running well, and another explaining the whole NRAAS mod suite (which is pretty much mandatory as well - think SkyUI for Skyrim).

this is so stupid for the devs to do this, other old games don't have this problem they allow the game to try to run the best it can,
but EA always did this in the sims, the sims 2 have the same performance issue but it manifest differnet, it fails to recognize the cpu you have, in the file called graphicalrules.crg it has a lot of code to check if you cpu is amd or intel and the core performance blablabla and the code check that to limit the sims on the lot, guess what? if you install the sims 2 nowdays with a modern cpu you can't make a party with more than 2 sims its so stupid...... need to manually fix the file to get the correct amount of sims, (the normal amount is max 8)
this is so stupid to code the game this way so stupid, because it limit the gmae on modern hardware,
its much SMARTER to od the inverse,
make a list of all know cpus/gpu that have issues running some setting, and disable it for those, any unkow hardware should be able to go max settings, lmao because newer stuff is likely to be better than old stuff.

  • @JacyDavies
    @JacyDavies 5 месяцев назад +4

The biggest issue with Sims 3 is how awful it plays on modern (and even period accurate hardware). That and the eventual saving issues caused by engine limitations.
That and the insanely long loading screens.

Great video. I must say congratulations on getting The Sims 3 to run well on your modern computer because it usually does not run well on modern hardware for majority of people. But I will say if it wasn't for performance issues I agree with all of these statements, especially for the fact that there is more content in The Sims 3 than 4. One thing though is that the fashion and furniture in The Sims 3 is a little dated but Create a Style (that will make your PC C H U G lmfao) or mods could possibly fix this. But the open world feel makes those feel not so bad anyways.
Again, really good video and keep up the great work

when it comes to lightning in ts3, there are some lights with huge range, and some with lower range, so the best way to light your house is to just put that one square light all around the house, or you can use "buydebug" mode and use lights from here

I didn't realize that the opportunites are such a small but important detail. It constantly gave you something to aim for together with the whims and career goals. Something they tried to fix with scenarions in TS4 which... well, it didn't work out really, did it?

I got Sims 3 when I was a kid but was never able to really play it a lot and I had 2 expansions. Started playing Sims 4 when I became an adult and fully immerged myself into it but you could really sense how lackluster and empty the game actually was compared to its predecessors. I tried to make it more fun with mods and cc but it was honestly just a placebo effect since no mods or packs could fix the game at it's core. I started playing Sims 3 again a year ago with all the expansions and packs and I've been having the most fun I've had with a Sims game, could never go back anymore.

I remember playing Sims 3 for the first time it released. The features are already cool as a base game. Interracting with ghost is always my favorite. And seeing colorful ghosts to silently tell their cause of deaths, and the glowing eye added the creepy. Even in the early version, you can have ghost baby by woohoo with the ghost (which in later version, that feature erased).
Meanwhile in Sims 4 early version od base game, once you died... well, only tombstone. No ghost yet. And when ghost applied in later version, all are in same colour since it based on emotions, and they don't look scary at all except being transparent.

I play sims 3 a lot of years (since 2014). Sims 4 runs smoother (with a lot of cc as well) , but I LOVE the open world and the colorwheel in sims 3 and so I miss it in 4. So I started a project a few month ago to put the most of the sims 4 worlds in one sims3 world. You can see the progress on my channel. I am very exited how it will be, when everything is done...
but in 4 the build mode and the CAS are much better , things I miss in 3 😀
A mix of both would be nice... But I think it it stil possible , to make an open world in 4 , it would be a big update 😀 It must not be like my project - it can be parted like now. just an open world in - for e.g. Willow creek - would be nice. The map would not be as bigger as the Battle Royal Map in Fortnite....

Have you played The Sims 3 World Adventures DLC yet? They literally added three new worlds in one expansion pack and gameplay that makes it feel like a different genre game. You should also try out the town Twinbrook from the Ambitions DLC.

7:22 another thing you didn't point out: if your sim is in the criminal career they can get in jail for a couple of hours and lose some job performance bc they got caught. with ambitions you can invent a drill, and if you use it in the police office you may get a bunch of criminals who are escaping the prison through the hole you made in the ground!!! there's a lot of things i can't possible share, it's so much funnnn

I think The Sims 3 is a great experience in retrogaming for people who have never really done that with PC games. There's tons of documentation for any problem you might have. Definitely go slow installing expansions though, some of them are notorious for bugs.

It's so fantastic to watch people play the Sims 3 for the first time after playing the Sims 4. I've been bingeing this game myself the last couple of weeks. FYI: if your sim doesn't have a burglar alarm, they can use the phone to call the police when getting robbed. Same goes for the fire alarm.
