there's actually a fan made neighborhood for the sims 2 that features them! the neigborhood is called old town, and it also has all of the sims families from the game as well. i play the neighborhood as one of my TS2 saves and it's so fun :')
I actually love Claire and Luna Charming. They lived up to their name; a charming little family to play. It was a woman who enjoyed live music and was a nurse living with her dog.
You say the Roomies never returned, but they sort of did! In the Sims 3 Twinbrook neighborhood, there’s a household called Roomates and it’s an implied lesbian couple. A strawberry blonde white woman named Blaise and a dark skin woman named Alma. Their description says they’re long time best friends but it also includes something like, “will living together lead to things they never expected?”. Not exactly the same but I definitely think they’re based on the Sims 1 roomies.
Actually I remember on my sims games, I always loved having the Mashuga family with the Goth family in the same neighborhood, I recreated their house only because I didn't wanted to remove the Newbies, the reason I wanted them with the Goth family is because it was so funny and random to have these two families interact with each other, Either Frankie and Mortimer would be mortal enemies and would be hillarious, or they would be best friends and would still be hilarious. You get an insane chaos either these two guys are friends or hate each other lol.
I absolutely subscribe to the idea of Ruby Ann Hatfield and Ruby Broke being the same characters. I feel like it works really well without having to be forced. Obviously there's some discrepancies in the personality and appearance, but Maxis wasn't too consistent with this anyhow. I loved the video, and it's so awesome to have someone acknowledge these downloadable families so many years later!
I once made a TS2 neighborhood based on TS1 sims (including some forgotten ones and minus the Goths) and my personal headcanon was to make Chris Roomies Bob Newbie's younger sister (based on a console game's default name being Chris Newbie), Melissa being the adopted daughter of a Ruth and Mia, Claire Charming being the middle child with 2 brothers and a single mom, and Ruby Ann Hatfield being Elden Hick's older sister (both with unknown yet separate fathers)
I am still palying with sims1,2,3,4, medieval and all 3 stories...whatever I have the mood for but never heard about these downloadable families...immediately subscribed.
You mentioned Ruby Ann Hatfield having a connection with Ruby Broke from Riverview, but there's another family in that same neighborhood, the Jones family, which may be the ancestors of the TS1 Jones family...
Absolutely! I chose not to include them because there's very few obvious similarities and the name Jones is quite common in general (and there are also Jones families in Garden Heights, Bridgeport, Twinbrook and Roaring Heights!).
I feel like it could still work though. I know the boy in Roaring Heights shares the same name of Edward, but the hair colors don't match. It's still cool to imagine them to be connected. @@k-rce 🙂
Love this! I started playing early sims 1 in the early 2000s but I was literally a child and we had dial up internet so I didn’t know about the downloadable families! Remember having to set a timer so my dad could use the phone for work haha these videos are great!
Just discovered your channel, and this is exactly my kind of video! My favorite games of all time are TS1 and TS2, and I don’t think there’s enough videos out there that really get deep into the Sims 1, especially lore wise, and just about the game in general. This just taps into my weirdly specific interests in the perfect way so I instantly subscribed lol. 🎉
the Landgraabs aren't actually a featured family in Sims 1. They are mentioned countless times in ingame text and descriptions for Lots and Objects but they were never a playable family, until the Sims 2 with Open for Business which features a distant but very wealthy relative "Malcolm Landgraab IV". It wasn't until Sims 3 they actually got a proper introduction with a full fledged family.
I am overjoyed to find your channel. The Sims was the first game I ever played as a child and will forever be my favorite. Back then, I wasn’t actually aware of the downloadable families created by Maxis, and it’s so exciting to know that there’s still some original characters out there that I can get to know. 😁 I love how much lore there is to explore and can’t believe I’m still learning new things about this game. Now to go watch all your other videos! 😃
Aww i used to play as Claire a lot loved the relationship she had with her little dog :D The Mashugas were cool, and so many other good families 💖 When i loaded the world with the Mashugas there was a disco house and a young couple both had bright coloured hair and loved parties, can't remember the name though, but i used to play them a lot
I like your TS1 content not alot of channels feature this kind of content! I cant wait for your retrospective review for the remaining TS1 packs! I hope you could create mini series/lps on this game!!
Oh wow, I never downloaded the extra Maxis families, as back then, my sister and I could not use the internet (dial-up was expensive then). Honestly, I did not know they existed, until now...thank you so much❣ Instant sub❣
The Roomies are near and dear to my heart because they were the first family I ever played (and, yes, I did have them fall in love and get married lol).
please can you play these premades, or do some kind of series with them or like how you'd play with them when you were younger? this brings back so many memories
the algorithm got me to your channel and i gotta tell you i'm loving your sims 1 content! there's very little content about the first sims game nowadays, so please keep them coming
Hey, nice channel. It's so rare to find an (almost) exclusive TS1 focused channel in the internet wilderness 😅. Never played any of the downloadable fams but now I am thinking about trying them out. The Maximus and the Hatfields sound fun! The Sims 1 cast was pretty wild, it's a shame that only some of them made it to the sequels. The Mashugas, the Roomies and the Hicks are definitely my faves. It's almost mandatory for me to marry off Elden Hick to Claire Charming in each nbhood, lol. I think it's implied that they are suppose to get with one another, since Claire and Luna are homages to Debussy's 'Clair de Lune' and Elden's cannonically is a classical music fan but maybe I am overthinking. And I loove the theory about Sylvia scaming poor Mama, my second template is pretty untouched so perhaps I would make Sylvia enemies with Elden and Mama in my playthrough. Also, I've always thought that the Roomies girls had canonical last names such as "Chris Jones" and "Melissa Smith", I swore I've seen this info somewhere a long time ago, can't remember where though... Anyways, looking forward for your Superstar Expansion Pack review, since I personally think it is one of the best packs in the entire franchise!
i swear the roomies were the most canonical lesbians as declared by the people. there wasn't one kid in my childhood that didn't just call them "the lesbians".
I love it, I thought I was the only one who played with them lol 🤭 As a suggestion, there are also some families that were created in the Beta and many fans know them, they are the Wallace, Roomies, Ryan, etc, you may want to talk about them in the future ❤
I have fond memories on the Hatfield family: my torture play with them A.K.A. let free will be 99% in charge of their decision and its hilarious! Not to mention adding Tragic Clown and indoor firecrackers in the mix 🤣🤣
I am enchanted in so many ways! I had little idea about the existence of these families, and especially about the connections! Thank you for bringing this content with a freshness and feeling that holds us from the beginning to the end of the video. The Sims 1 was special and had a significant impact! Eric Hedman, the art director, created a discord to gather stories and share stories about the game's development, I've been doing some coverage and if you want to join, there's a recent video in which I present some stories, in the description there's a link to it. I think you'll like it!
Maximus, Valentino and Snooty Patooty required an additional download to work on my game. Otherwise, they'd crash my game when trying to import them. You can also do a work around to have all these families in the same neighbourhood. With their original homes too. You'll have to google the link with instructions.
I like listening to the sims while someone talks about it passionately and informatively :D. I hope you can keep these videos coming, they are a treat.
The Mashuga Family!! My favorite family in the Sims 1. First of all, as you said, Sylvia working in the paranormal career (which is also my favorite) is so iconic and Frankie is kinda a kink. I loved their house as a kid and I still adore their style.
I would often marry Whatshisname Hick and Claire Charming, they along with their 4 dogs were my favorite family to play. Mama hick used to get untimely demises launching fireworks indoors and such :(
For years i was only familiar with the sims 3 because it was the only one that had my native language as an option (way before the sims 4 was even a concept) . Now more than a decade later, and after having learned english, I started playing the sims 2 and I love it. Recently I tried downloading the sims without any success but your videos make want to give it another try!
i never knew of the hatfield connection to sims 3, i totally accept that as head canon now as it really works nicely and also links them to the sims 2 as well. still one of my favourite families in all of sims, but it has to be the jones' a my personal favourite :)
These were the iconic families that made Sims special, including the families you can download for it too, and they deserve to be reanimated into Sims 4.
Still to this day I play the the Sims games from sims 1 to sims 3. I recently found the demo game of Steering Commitee and downloaded it of course. I'm obsessed with this Sims 1 and Sims 2 Beta history, it's really fascinating to me how both of these games, have been in a crazy changes of aesthetics and in general their UI. I found lots of sims 1 mods that are old and based on Beta, and of course I found all these forgotten families.
I recreated the Hicks (and a knock off Bachelor) in my recent Sims 2 game. Elden fell in love with Mike Bachelor in my Sims 1 game, so I figured I'd get them properly married in the sequel.
I used to love to play with those families. Funny enough the agent family is present in the old town custom neighborhood for the sims 2! They where the only ones I haven't a clue about them XD
I am so glad to have found your channel ! I love revisiting The Sims 1 lore, it's the only one that really fascinates me enough for me to want to watch a video about
Love the video. I played TS1 when there was no internet around where I lived, so I didn't get to play the downloadable families. Your review helps me feel like I had played with them.
I'm glad someone remembers my man Eldin! I spent sooo much time as a 12 year old trying to get him to fall in love with me. Made it kinda hard with his mom always around. Shout-out to the father of my first 3 Sims children!
Thank you for this video! I love The Sims 1, it will always have a special place in my heart. I am so happy I've found your channel. ❤ You are doing an amazing job!
Oh my god I'm obsessed with this! I have so many favourite households from the Sims 3 that I'm forever hoping will come back to the franchise in the Sims 4, but I had no idea there were so many forgotten families from the Sims 1! Love this video! 💙📺
Great video! Was nice hearing about some of these other sims. I had dial up Internet back in the day and had no idea Maxis had uploaded official Sims. Thanks for sharing a link to download them. I remember back in the day so many different Sims 1 downloads and custom content on many sites. I remember their were pet dogs and pigs that were obiects that could live or die and move around randomly and had to be fed was interesting. Alot of interesting CC back then.
Well, I know which households to recreate in Sims 4 and give them homes according to their personas. Mashugas were my go to family when I was a child. Memories :’)
I found Claire Charming's House such a pretty place, though; I remember 10 yr old me giving Claire the pool treatment and giving her house to my own family lol
In SimGolf, the older Sims would say ‘now Bobby Jones, HE was a golfer!’ and in my mind that was Bobby Jones’ grandpa. That’s the most interesting aspect about them tbh BUT I have a theory that Barbara and Julia Valentino are sisters lol
Look deeper into the Jones family. Bobby seems to prefer pink and playing with a dollhouse. I wonder if his traditional parents will have issues with his preferences as he ages? Love the Hatfields! I always made them have as many kids as they could.
Sims one was SO campy! It's so sad how the sims franchise has lost its charm more and more over time as it becomes more corporatized. In fact, now we cheer for mediocrity and the smallest hint of lore.
YAY! Thank you for this video! I was disappointed to see these wonderful families missing from later sims games. I wrote Sims1 fan fiction that featured the Roomies! I just recreated the Hatfields in my Sims2 game, house and all! 😂
Have you considered doing a forgotten famillies of The Sims 2? As someone who hasnt played much of the other games, it'd be interesting which families stuck around and which ones were left behind.
I’d love this, but almost all families in the sims 2 base neighbourhoods (Pleasantview, Strangetown and Veronaville) return in the sims 3 in some capacity. Off the top of my head we’d be left with only two families: the Loner family from the Strangetown family bin, and the Grunts from Strangetown who did get a sims 4 downloadable remake. Perhaps something with the lore of the expansion packs worlds!
The Valentino Family was my favorite as well! I named one of my cats Valentino in their honor. Sadly I can't seem to install/import the Maximus Household into my game. I really wish I could play with them as well. :(
For some reason they're the only download where the file is stored in a folder when unzipped, so make sure you drag the FAM file in that directory up into the Maxis\The Sims\UserData\Import folder! Hope this works!
Forgotten Families would be such a fun theme for a Sims 2 custom hood.
there's actually a fan made neighborhood for the sims 2 that features them! the neigborhood is called old town, and it also has all of the sims families from the game as well. i play the neighborhood as one of my TS2 saves and it's so fun :')

I love the progression from psychic phone friend to cult leader 😂
A standard pipeline one could say
Also, I so envy the level of detail in these lores. Sims 4 could never 😢
Omg the psychic phone friend Hick/Mashuga connection never even occurred to me! That's some DEEP Sims lore
honestly my favourite lore in the sims
this is some deep sims lore! never heard of any downloadable families for ts1. your content is so entertaining🤧
Yeah.. TheSims1 online gallery used to be the bees knees.
I was afraid I went too deep but happy to hear we're on the same page here!
The Mashuggas really are PEAK SIms 1 for sure. All the décor and stuff used in the house is just so iconically Sims 1
Love the mashuga’s, I remade them in the sims 4
I actually love Claire and Luna Charming. They lived up to their name; a charming little family to play. It was a woman who enjoyed live music and was a nurse living with her dog.
I agree with you, and I love Claire’s house! ❤
Absolutely thrilled to see Sims 1 content in 2024! Such an underrated game in the franchise currently that deserves way more attention.

Did you know meshuga means crazy in Hebrew and Yiddish? I wonder if that was on purpose.
Yes! And knowing Maxis at the time I'm sure this must be on purpose!

THE MAXIMUS FAMILY! NOBODY EVER TALKS ABOUT THEM 😢❤
I once made a TS2 neighborhood based on TS1 sims (including some forgotten ones and minus the Goths) and my personal headcanon was to make Chris Roomies Bob Newbie's younger sister (based on a console game's default name being Chris Newbie), Melissa being the adopted daughter of a Ruth and Mia, Claire Charming being the middle child with 2 brothers and a single mom, and Ruby Ann Hatfield being Elden Hick's older sister (both with unknown yet separate fathers)
I could see all of these things being actual lore!

(Maybe not the agents, they don’t even have names)
@@k-rce What about the expansions neighborhoods? Or Family Bin families like Goodie(who are meant to mirror Oldies from Pleasantview) and Newsons?
Now I want to see if anybody made Veido's remaking them.
Watching this has made me realise I really didn’t appreciate / play ts1 right as a kid!
Hope this works!
great video, you have my sub, even though I don’t really remember most of them except for Mashugas. 😊
Oh the good old days, when it was fun.
