This was their very first time in the UK and their first major event outside of Japan - they were virtually unknown in the west before this. They had originally been booked to play a small side stage, but the video for 'Gimme Chocolate' had gone viral and they were attracting attention, so with just a couple of months notice they were moved to play on the main stage. They were worried nobody would come to see them (they couldn't see the crowd from back stage) and were surprised to see over 50,000 people waiting when they walked on stage. Very few of the people there had heard of them so they were all very puzzled to see 3 small Japanese girls in red tutus on stage at one of the biggest metal festivals. They played 5 songs and the crowd were puzzled at first but as the show went on they got more and more involved so by the time they played IDZ (the last of their 5 songs) most of the crowd were enjoying the show and joining in ... I don't know if you heard at the end as they walked off stage the crowd were calling "We want more!" and "One more song!" Ijime, Dame, Zettai translates as Bullying, No More, For Ever or Absolutely. It is an anti-bullying song so in the choreo Yui and Moa are fighting and bullying each other - until Su steps between them and threatens to kick them both in the head if they don't stop. This performance pre-dates Lovebites by 2 years, the song was already 3 years old. No DragonForce in this one (but yes it is power/speed metal in the same vein) ... but if you really want to hear a song where DragonForce was involved (specifically Herman Li and Sam Totman) 'Road of Resistance' is what you're looking for (live in Japan - official is the one most often recommended ... that was from early 2015 and you shouldn't have to mess about with it).
That "Sweep picking deamon" on the left was Mikio "Ko-gami"(little god) Fujioka (R.I.P.) and was one of the lead guitarist from the original (east) Kami Band! Unfortunately, he took a fall from a high platform while Star Gazing on Dec. 30, 2017 and died on Jan. 5, 2018. Babymetal released a song called "Starlight" that many fans thought of as a Tribute to Mikio (since it was the first release after the accident and was because of the title), but the band never formally said as much...but they did use one of his Guitars, and Moa played it live during the opening for their song "Shine" (from their 3rd album) and this song is the one that Babymetal recognizes as the Tribute to Mikio. Both of these songs, as you might imagine, have a more somber timbre, but both are Fantastic songs! More Babymetal Always!! Put your Kitsune UP!
Outside Japan, he's known for the Kami Band. Within Japan, he's more known as a guitar educator. Hence his style of sweep picking is not uncommon there.
@@ericifune5543 Right. He would teach a class every year from 2015 until his death at the prestigious Musicians Institute of Tokyo. Man knew his instrument! Put your Kitsune UP!!
They've just announced their first Europe & UK arena tour, hopefully bringing their stage show experience from Japan. Ends at the O2 in London - 20,000 capacity. Guess where I'm going ;)
I am quite sure that hthey wont have crawlers orvthings like that, I think they will rent most of the Equipment in place, they sometimes have to switch places in one day, so these shows will be nearerbto their normal European Tours then tontheir huge japanese shows.
@@ksbrst2010 I hope you're wrong, there is precedent for grander staging with The Forum in LA. Of course they will use European crews for logistics and setup, but there is plenty of expertise in moving major complex set ups across Europe e.g. Taylor Swift, Pink, Coldplay etc. So we can still dream. Should be more than the more spartan theatre shows we have seen in the past, especially for the London show. In either case I'll still have a great night :)🦊
For the record: this song predates Lovebites by 5 years. Yes, they are incredibly good even without the crazy stage setups, light and laser shows, pyro and everything they use on an indoor arena sized show. Great to see you noticed that key change on the outro it's just brilliant. That guitarist on the left you mentioned was Mikio Fujioka. He sadly passed away in early 2018 due to the injuries caused by a fall while stargazing. RIP Ko-gami.
This is the video I saw that opened the floodgates to all the female led Asain music that has DOMINATED my listening over the past 2 1/2 years! This led me to my new favorite band, LOVEBITES! Babymetal is right there at the top for me as well, and I get to see them perform as headliner in 2 weeks!! HEDOBAN! HEDOBAN!! HEDOBAN!!!
First it's dark then light, then heavy, then bright...it's Babymetal. This was the first tour the girls had taken out of Japan and they were not widely known by the crowd of 55,000. But by the end of this song you can hear the crowd shouting for more! This was a pivotal show for Babymetal and it was the one that really let the girls know that their music would not only work outside of Japan. but it would crush!
My fav kami too - I loved their interaction and the raw feeling sound they produced - and of course no masks. Great reaction to a seminal BM performance.
Nice reaction! One of my favorite performances, and the best of this song in my opinion. This performance by Sonisphere legitimized them on the international stage.
Shredder! Same venue 2 years later they done “Karate” download 2016, The crowd went nuts for them! And the girls were still only 17/18! Babymetal with the amazing kami band are a force to be reckoned with right now! 🤘🏼
This was 65,000 people Sonosphere 2014 , us UK metal heads are a bit hard to please, they played babymetal-death as the first song - with a sort of WTF from the audience but after 5 songs (this was the last) the crowd was shouting "more more". This was Babymetal's first major concert outside Japan and it was Babymetal that led the recognition of Japan for producing great metal bands, 5 years before the Hanabie, band-maid etc become known The shredding guitarist is Mikio (RIP) that died star gazing several year later and the "one" misses him (yes I know the western Kami band plays most of Babymetal shows now). The trilogy of lights is 3 songs in eulogy to this guitarist. This concert won over a lot of non-Japanese fans, and Babymetal remember this concert as special to them being recognised outside of Japan and have mentioned the concert several times in interviews.
This was the performance that broke Babymetal out to the international community. They were initially slated to be on a side stage, however, after Gimmie Chocolate went viral and an effort by fans, they were bumped up to the main stage. As UK crowds are kind of notorious for being hostile, if they don't like you, they'll let you know. Online there was even talks about people going to their performance to throw things at them and to boo them off the stage as they didn't think Babymetal belonged there. However, after their 30 minute set, you can see that they completely won over the crowd. I also believe they ended up outselling bands like Metallica on their merch at the festival. Just due to one of the comments you made and as I see it's not on the channel yet, you absolutely have to react to Road of Resistance Live in Japan. Also as I see you haven't reacted to them yet and since they just did a collaboration with Babymetal, you should definitely check out Electric Callboy if you're not familiar with them. Which I would start off with either Hypa Hypa or We Got The Moves for them.
