Ingredients
1 pound (500g) kataifi pastry
1/2 pound unsalted butter, melted
The Syrup:
2 and 1/2 cups water
2 cups granulated sugar
peel of an orange
1/2 cup orange juice
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
For the Orange Custard:
5 eggs
1 cup plain yogurt
1 cup granulated sugar
1 and 1/4 cup orange juice
1 tablespoon baking powder
zest of 2 oranges
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 °F, 180 °C.
Make the Syrup: Combine all of the syrup ingredients (except the vanilla) in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Mix together and once the sugar has dissolved remove from the heat and add the vanilla extract. Set aside to cool.
Separate the kataif strands and place in a 9 by 13-inch (23 by 33cm) baking pan. Pour the melted butter on top and toss the kataifi to coat.
Bake the tray on the center rack until golden. About 20 minutes.
Combine all of the custard ingredients in a bowl and whisk them together until smooth.
Pour the custard over the toasted kataifi and return to the oven to bake for 45 minutes or until set.
Poke holes into the pastry and pour the syrup on top.
Allow the pastry to cool and absorb the syrup.
Serve topped with homemade whipped cream. Kali Orexi!

Now I see Kataifi. And realize how easy it would be to make my favorite kind of baklava...

Great one. Maybe in a next video you could show us how to do the Kataifi paste, so that we can do it if we don't find it

Can you recommend cooking channels in Greek, pls, I'm learning Greek and love cooking 😁
OOOOOOOHHHH!
Hello. Can i ommit the sugar from the custard? The syrup is enough for the sweetness i think
BOOM FIRST!
Is this also called orange pie in Greece? Looks like it!
Can you make this in advance for the next day or is it best served the day of baking?
I don’t understand why I don’t the notifications of your channel anymore and that for a very long time. So much that I forgot about your channel. This morning it just popped up among other videos. So frustrating
سلام 🌹👍🌹
Can i use a substitute for the katifi? I can't find it here.
Hii there, I don’t have any access to phyllo 😢 can I replace it with spring roll wrapper?
A couple of questions! 1) Is the yogurt whole milk or nonfat? 2) It looks like you have a board in your oven, can you please explain that?
Hi Dimitra your recipes are wonderful as i am greek too
I have noticed in some of your videos you seem rushed to make whatever your making or saying one less thing to wash i know you have children and are a busy mom but i have just noticed your just rushing to get it done and its a shame because when your watching a video it should be relaxed and enjoyable like when you first started : your recent videos i find rushed and your stressed to get it done
Im sorry for pointing it out but you are my favourite Dimitra i refer everybody to your channel Thats why take tome to breath ok
Thank your for again another recipe
How much do you pay to watch these videos?
Nothing so go easy on the well-produced, thoroughly tested free content you are watching now.
Say thank you and move on with your life.
They say that "time is money", and based on the actual opportunity cost of my time, a typical DD video costs me ~$2.00. Also, Dmitra does not spam us with advertising or accept sponsorships, so this channel is supported by our engagement: likes, subscribers, views, shares.
So I believe it's fair to be concerned about our hostess's stress levels. If Dmitra is feeling pressured for time or performance, then that's not good for her mental health, or her family.
I sang in choirs for several decades. If our director was rushing our tempo, we became breathless, and laypeople notice that! Better to relax, lean into it, and have a chill presentation that has a positive effect on the viewers as well. We'd be more likely to return.
