Liked todays video but also miss you showing off your car. You were one of the first RUclipsrs that got me excited to buy my M3p. But like that you are still making content and good flow on this one. Probably easier to have someone to speak to rather than just Camera!
I miss having the car to talk about too! Maybe again one day! But I also like having Tom in these and also hopefully won’t run out of video ideas either! Thanks for watching!
So really it depends on what you need. My family includes a 6 month old baby plus a senior dog (small 24lbs). The Model 3 meets our needs for now but we also don't really bring a lot of stuff and don't travel further than 150 miles for either work or vacation.
A Model Y would be plenty big for a small family. I've seen several Y owners with 5 and 7 seats and they all have talked about how incredibly spacious it is. I rode in one and have checked it out; I think you need to go see one in person. Plenty of space. Frunk is much bigger too.
I think it would probably be ok but unsure of how long it would be before we grew out of it. I did test drive the Y a while back but I probably need to again for a fresh perspective.
@@carterajones The newer model rides much better, and is quieter because of the double pane windows. Only unknown is the cost/time to repair a Tesla from any unfortunate accident compared to another vehicle such as a Sequoia ;). And this comes from an owner of a 2021 Model Y - The online community has painted a negative picture on the time and cost it takes to fix the body damage of a Tesla compared to established brands.
I get it but then what type of car do you drive that gets 450 miles? Well I guess a Ford Explorer gets maybe 26mpg. Although they advertise 28, an ICE car's range also has to be downgraded about the same as an EV. The Explorer has a gas tank at 18 gallons so that does give you 468 miles of range. And there's plenty of room for the dogs and kid. There are big cars with better gas mileage, certainly so yes, an ICE will get you more non-stop range than an EV. Tom will have to get a second car, maybe a Prius which advertises 53mpg highway and on a tank about 11 gallons yields 583 miles of range. My 2010 Prius gets more like 45mpg highway so the same 11 gallon tank gives me 495 miles of range. But if you have snow in the winter, that Prius can't handle more than about 4 inches on the ground before it becomes a snowplow! I'm sure you've done the numbers and know what you'll replace the Model 3 with and my situation being retired is totally different from a daily drive situation. Good luck with everything and congrats on the new family addition. Cheers.
Honestly, just being able to fill up at the gas station in 5 minutes is what it is. 400 miles of range on a gas car is fine because filling up is easy and super convenient. I think for eclectic cars to be successful they need to get the ranges closer to 1000 and do something about losing range on the highway.
When gas prices get to $4 per gallon on the east coast your future video will be “ I really regret selling my Tesla” lol Californians already paying over $5 per gallon and I’ve seen $6.59 in south Los Angeles.
Congrats on the pregnancy news. Unless you're having quadruplets, the Model 3 is fine for a young family you don't need a Tahoe or Expedition to haul your groceries and an infant car seat. Too late now though.
Sur a good looking couple. Your baby will be awfully attractive. Good to have such diverse perspectives that you can bring to these discussions. Picking a car for a family is challenging. In my day, that was a sporty minivan. But those days are long gone. I think a model Y would work, it feels big even when I think back to the minivan. There's no question that putting a child seat in and out is challenging (owners of Model X love the wings because they get completely out of the way). You'll find something. For me, I'm hooked on EV's and can't go back, so that puts a limit on choices. But I think the Model Y will be sufficient when grandchildren come along (don't have to worry about carting around a couple pets, though)! Look forward to your future episodes and your different perspectives on responses to questions.
I agree the Model Y could work! Without the dogs I think it would be perfect but with them they take up so much space. Your Model Y will be perfect for driving around your grandchildren!
Lucid Air Pure may be a good fit for all your needs
Get a Toyota Sienna Hybrid (620 miles range) and call it a day.
I am interested in the new hybrid Toyota Sequoia!
@@carterajones That is one amazing looking/bad-ass vehicle! Too bad Cybertruck got delayed...

The range excuses are a driver education issue. I have a SR 3 with a range of 225. Drive for two hours and super charge for 30 minutes.
Having to charge 2 times a day adds a decent amount of time to anyones day. Personal preference that we would rather have that hour back

Wow! That is so hard to imagine. Prices have held steady out here so we will see what the future holds.
The Model X is even bigger than the Y, so there's always that option too if you got the deep pockets for it lol
I think the X is too expensive for me right now ha
Does he drive 250 miles without a break? Sounds like life in the fast lane, pun not intended.
Yes he does! He tries to knock it all out and not take any breaks.

Very true!
In other words, you cannot afford a Model X! LOL
