Just a random thought.....revair could be useful in blowing out new growth and help stretch relaxers. Maybe a better option to blowing out with a traditional dryer.
I use the Affirm Sensitive scalp system, and follow Every. Single. Step. You mentioned! I also do a semi permanent on relaxer day, but as you state, it doesn’t last long. Maybe I have to consider a demi. How often should a demi be done, or does that depend on how often disrespectful grays pop up...?
My stylist uses affirm Avalon for years on my hai no lye sensitivescalp. I relaxed my hair myself for the very first time . I was told by my stylist only color year hair with a rinse two weeks after or weeks before .
I’m really considering trying the affirm at my next relaxer appt. my hair does break easily and I have always used ORS. It may be time to switch it up. My scalp is dry but hopefully with proper basing of my scalp it should not be an issue
Great Video. The only part that I differ with you on is that I would start applying the relaxer in the nape area first because it is the most resistant part of the head.
Thank you for this. I wish watched this before my touch up yesterday. I’ve been self relaxing with the Affirm relaxer system since quarantine. I under processed my new growth the last 2 touch ups which I believe caused a lot of breakage tangling despite me doing protein treatments and hair masks under the steamer. As a result I asked my stylist to relaxed the new growth bone straight and overlap two inches of pre relaxed hair. She was really rough with my hair though, I saw a lot of it in the comb after she sectioned my hair... this makes me want to go back to self relaxing. Do you have any tips for potentially over processed hair? I’m 4C with high porosity and had about 3 inches trimmed.
The best thing would be to trim off the ends if they're that damaged. You don't need to take off too much just what you're comfortable with. When you self relax make sure you're consistent each time. Timing yourself is a good way to do that. And try your best to not overlap the old hair. use Vaseline or a thick grease below the line of demarcation
@@sarahdanforth703 thank you so much. The trim I got yesterday was pretty thorough. I think I’ll get a better idea of wether or not more needs to be trimmed after I wash the press/curls out. I’m going to be so much more consistent because I really want to see it reach a waist length with full bluntly trimmed ends 🤞🏾 💇🏾♀️
Hello Desiree, Great questions! Sorry to hear that happened but I agree with Sarah! Also, you have 4C high porosity hair like me! Consider Kenya Moore restorative growth mask with some dryer time. After that put your leave ins and hair oil or serum in while your hair is damp and allow your hair to air dry at least 60% then use some heat protectant. Utilize heatless styling. The most heat my hair gets now is from the blow dryer in the fall and winter. I hope this helps! Thank you so much for watching
@@AprilSunnyBeauty thank you for replying! Girl I follow your product regimen to a T so I will use the mask, only difference is I’m going to use the dryer like you recommended instead of the steamer, I could be overdoing the steamer. Also I’m taking your advice on the air drying, moisturizers + heat tools. Thank you so much for all you do 🙏🏾
Hi! I used your link for the relaxer but every container I get has a “normal strength” sticker label placed over the original printing that reads “mild”. Are you running into this issue? I’ve been trying for over a year but no matter where I get it, it’s the same issue.
I STG I wish I would've went to Cosmetology school instead of a university. When your hobby is also your career you're happier in life. Heck, I may still do it!!! Edit: I see you use Affirm w Fiberguard! I use that too and I like it a lot.
So, I was natural for like 4+ years but most of the time I was shaving my head and wearing wigs. Then I decided I was going to grow my hair and just take care of it naturally. I have VERY resistant, 4c, low porosity hair. Once my hair got past my ears, I decided to do a relaxer. I did an at home, normal strength, lye relaxer. It tex-laxed my hair at best. It was giving manageable 4c, but I was disappointed in the results because I wanted it a little more relaxed. I've waited 18 weeks and I'm going to do an extra strength, no-lye, corrective relaxer today. Does anyone have any tips or some "absolutely DO NOT do's"? If all my hair falls out, I will just start over. It's just hair, it'll grow back. But any suggestions would be helpful!
I have similar hair! Close to the texture of steel wool lol. Pretty much made the same decision after my hair reached my shoulders. I ended up relaxing my hair a total of three times within 15 weeks. First time it did virtually nothing. Second time I did it quickly and haphazardly, left me texlaxed. Third time I took my time, this was yesterday. My advice is after a texlax, you'll have a strong urge to over process/leave it on your hair longer than necessary. Don't. Use a scalp protectant. I used Vaseline. Apply that first. Optimally your apply, rub it in with your finger tips (not nails) sit for about an hour, then relax. But not everyone has time for that. Do a test strand before doing your whole head to gage how much time your processing will take. After your neutralize, do a protein treatment. There are plenty that basically function just like the conditioner, leave it in for a certain amount of time, then rinse. This helps restore bonds similar to the neutralizer and revitalizes the hairs strength. Do the deep condition option, under the dryer like she says in the video. It makes a world of a difference. And me personally, I use cholesterol conditioner before a leave in conditioner. Makes my hair feel like butter. Maintenance with a humectant shampoo and conditioner, once a week, alongside scalp oiling and regular moisturization for maintenance. I use chi silk infusion whenever I flat iron as well. This was a lot, but I hope it helps! 😊
I am trying to determine if the relaxers in using is causing my hair to shed or of it's something else. I last relaxes on May1st using Creme of Nature.. May I ask if Affirm is the relaxer you're using now and how has it worked for you? I also have 4c hair.
If your hair shedding try the green tea rinse and then the Shea moisture black castor oil masque. Our hair sheds when it is usually lacking protein. My hair was shedding like crazy until I started the green tea rinse and then the Shea moisture black castor strengthening mask. After 2-3 weeks the shedding had stopped. My hair was thirsty for protein and now I use a leave in that is protein too. So try doing protein treatments to see if that helps. Our hair also sheds when we are stressed. But remember is normal to see some form of shedding.
Hey luv!!! I self relaxed my hair about 2 times and it came out under processed both times. I've used mild relaxer on my 4c hair, do you suggest using a stronger relaxer? Plz help😭😭

Lye relaxers are easier on the hair but harsher on the scalp, no lye relaxers are easier on the scalp but harsher on the hair. Plus with a no lye relaxer you absolutely have to use a CHELATING shampoo often to get rid of the calcium buildup. Actually, everyone can benefit by CHELATING every now and again. It gets rid of mineral buildup from hard water. Joico used to make an excellent chelating AND clarifying poo but they stopped. Fukrs😣 The ION hard water shampoo from Sally's is good also.

I've had this happen a few years ago when I moved to a new city. If you're able to find a really good stylist you could get a "corrective" relaxer. But an alternative and likely easier solution is to use Olaplex, do a protein treatment, then baby your hair until your next relaxer (i.e. no heat, low manipulation styles, henna vs hair dye, etc.)
Sorry to hear that happen but definitely find a better stylist and get a corrective relaxer. I agree with Chris C. baby your hair until you find a better stylist. I personal (on wash day) would shampoo once with a neutralizing shampoo (cause clear the stylist didn't do their job properly) followed with a moisturizing shampoo then deep conditioner with a restorative mask (Olapex treatment is always a great option as stated by Chris C.). Then, find a new stylist.
