Kodorin bumpin the microphone while being expressive then continuing the video is the reason why he's built diffy. Also worries about plugging himself O.O, Plug away Kodorin. You offer great videos and advice always and you have structured information that is a huge help to people.
really valuable info here I’ve been aware of some of the reasons covered in the video but sometimes hearing someone verbalize and articulate these points helps
this is good advice for smash in general imo, I play ult and I see players try to do top player things/copy top players all the time and sometimes try to myself, when I notice I tell myself "stop pretending you are a top player" and try to play my game with what I can do, not be a worse copy of a top player.
Incredible video bro! I remember playing you years ago in socal, and im really not surprised you improved so much, especially with insights like these, and with asking PPMD for answers! great stuff and thanks for sharing the knowledge =3
That point about beating specific counterplays is super-valuable for me. It's hard for me to get personal information in that regard aside from "look up a flow chart" unless I spend a lot of time on Discord. I suppose I should devote more time to that though since it's really the best outlet for someone who only has time to treat it as a hobby.
this video helped me out understanding one of my issues. i always try to be an amalgamation of the samus players out there but i do not have the most consistent reaction time and play too safe or too risky (no in between) at times. i shall take time to think more about my positioning and finding more openings.
super helpful. I live in an area where i have to travel 2 hours + for any in person games, terrible internet, and have been banging my head against a wall solo improving
The StarCraft clip at the beginning was apt. That’s a game wherein most of what the pros are doing is far enough beyond most people that it’s just entertainment rather than something to learn from.
I want a coach service where they have the controller plugged in into player 2 and randomly pause and ask "what were you going to do? what are your options here? This one is probably the one that has the highest chance of working/puts you in the least bad position if it doesn't work". Then unpause and take notes lol
If you really look at melee neutral analytically (and have the intellectual chops to do so) it's pretty clear that true analytical answers in neutral only really exist once absolutely every other situation in the matchup is solved and given that we do not know the frame by frame coordinates of hitboxes, we don't really have complete knowledge of anything outside of very pure punish and even then we can't say it's optimal (top players are likely "very sure" about a variety of situations but this isn't really analytical, even if they are right). I personally think that analytical solutions in melee are very interesting but I am also not interested in being a strong player at all. Another question I'm interested in is what the "speed"in melee is. I definitely think that reaction points is a key factor, and I think that players would probably be better off looking at what strong players are reacting to than what specifically they do about it. If course, that's very hard to observe.
I know it wasn't the point of the video, but as a spectator the insight provided here is still really valuable in that it helps me to better understand and appreciate some of the very nuanced aspects of what makes the pros so elite.
Yeah people may call me out on this but I find watching top player vods a little hard to comprehend sometimes because it's also because for some characters they're playing the player just as much as they're playing the character like for some characters best players it's hard to really learn from those top players because they play off of so much of neutral understand and adapting to player's habits
Something I recently am trying to do Is watch top player But just to steal options from them To use in my neutral As opposed to trying to steal the whole neutral game.
Literally what i do is practice 900 hours a day and watch tons of footage from top players and find out how to build combos out of the tools my character uses from watching which tools are most commonly used after hitting certain moves and what top players use to start combos from all my moves so i get ridiculous punishes by knowing what leads too what and how to get those strings in neutral i also try to do stuff people wont expect also none of this would probably work if i couldnt tech chase edgegaurd improvise and practice basic tech and practice in general alot also di will always change things so you basically have to just react fast and know what too do.
Kodorin might not be pregnant but he never fails to deliver
a bar unfortunately.
Hot bar fr 🫣😳🥴
Sigh.... just more brainless copiers. Have you EVER said something YOU thought of?
Kodorin doesn't deliver, he SERVES
I laughed too hard at this

There must be something about Irvine smashers and making high quality tutorial videos. Your SSBM-T ancestors smile upon you, thanks for sharing this

you are sharing some sacred knowledge here. shifting reaction point is so important and hard for someone to come to on their own
The reaction points and scrapping concepts are really helpful. Ty Kodo!!!
This is probably one of the best melee videos that explains the under appreciated aspects of melee. Very good work John!

focus on movement
This is your best video yet. Love it. FYI:
Average human reaction time was .25 seconds I thought. So 3+ .25*60 = 18 frames.

Merry KoRiStMaS
Awesome video man, never thought about changing my “reaction point”. Interesting perspective, like a programmer.
Kodorin is truly blazing a new trail for content for melee
subscribed since you're making good stuff now, really cool stuff man

This video was so well done, edited, informative, and incredibly helpful! thank you for all you do for the melee community!
Kodo your videos are amazing. Really appreciate this
Great video, especially the examples on reaction points, subscribed.

This might be the new single best instructional melee video out there
Great video. A long and informative view from a pro's perspective

KODORIN SKITS GO SO HARD
My fav part of melee is manipulating reaction points
Kodorin should post those q/A's with PPmd somewhere
Very good video, Kodorin!
These vids have been a life saver, thank you Mr. Ko!
Great video!
Gonna write these down on a paper next to my slippi setup to try to remember to incorporate and think about them while playing
I like the PPMD picture frame lol
Wow this video was really helpful thanks

Kodorin straighten up your wall decor and you'll get top 10 this year

Great video.

I know I’m bad, don’t need to hear it 5 times.
Its about the heart tbh.
Tldr for marth mains: barrage ppmd on smashboards with questions LOL
Nice
I was here :)
v nice v nice
I can copy mang0
Cuase I’m mashing lol
Loving these scripted videos. Please keep making content like this.
How many decision tree paths are we talking? Both players on 0 percent on either side of FD. We talkin 3 optimal approaches or mixups? Or lots more?
One reason: you’re not a top player
Super insightful and perfect level of editing, but also you say “supposably” where “supposedly” is correct so overall terrible vid
