@@rorbot_SMF It's just how the meta evolves, nothing stupid about it. One player finds tech and gains an advantage, which forces other players to learn the tech in order to maintain equal footing. The mental game of melee is extremely fascinating to me. In a way, it’s like “camping” but in your face - borp’s is an especially good way to obliterate opponents that are expecting to fight a particular style and cover particular options by doing the “wrong” move, of which there is a much higher chance of happening if the target is known to risk flubbing tech skill. I cannot consistently get into that mindstate, but when I do it feels like I’m able to marry the mental and physical games into one and perform some of my favorite moments
As an old school style of gamer myself, I understand what Borp was trying to prove here. Fundamentals are incredibly important, moreso than any tier list or current meta. I've played many games where people lean so hard into what is 's tier' or 'meta' but seem to be lacking in even the most basic mechanical skill when it comes to the game itself, and they rely entirely on these things to carry them through their games. I saw this a lot in the early years of Overwatch, where people would constantly just use meta picks or swear by ranking systems, but when you actually played them they were incredibly easy to read because they simply copied what they were told without understanding the basics of the game itself. Back when I began playing games, we didn't have leagues, or internet guides, tier lists or tournaments. You picked up a controller, and you learned to play by trial and error, until you figured out what worked best for you. I feel people like Borp understand this, and even if they could play the same way that others do to get an advantage, I can tell he's trying to teach people that what people think is 'meta' is only psychological thing.
The fact that the footage of Borp doing wavedashing for like 20 seconds made the commenters lose their minds goes to show how successful Borp was at proving their point. But i would recommend everyone else to play like this first
Knowing how player's minds operate is a more useful skill
20:40 it's just like, knowing how pro of a player Borp already is, if he was to implement wavedashing and tech play in his tournament plays, he seem like he would honestly be UNSTOPPABLE! SERIOUSLY!
Borp: The Rock Lee of Meelee
Borp is my melee idol. I also play sheik and I also have very little tech skill. Half the time I don't even use the c stick for aerials, mostly due to muscle memory. I just play for fun!
He's amazing, but he's the opposite of fun to me. He's only playing to win, which is fine, but I personally don't consider his gamestyle as fun whatsoever.
amazing vid, you introduced me to such a great player. keep at it bro
I typically only watch smash ultimate content but something about your title and thumbnail lured me in. This video was awesome!
ive been waiting so long for a video on Borp thank you so much, i love Borp so much
I really enjoyed your video, well narrated and what an interesting competitor, so cool watching him stand there and hard read his opponents haha
Great video!! Please keep your passion in the future for this and anything else you find joy in!
Means a lot! Hope you do the same ❤️
Losing with 1 stock 60% against a wavedashing fox... not a loss. The guy's a winner.
Borp is like that one MMO player who never goes past the first class/job and still kicks your ass LOL
That part where Borp beats Toph was crazy
A player literally making everyone else look like boy scouts in comparison without needing to rely on what is considered necessary tech
People immediately begin downplaying him ☠️
Amazing video, excellent editing, and a great story about an interesting player.
“Borp does an amazing combo”
*dash attack upsmash*
We used to say that most people play the game, Borp plays his opponents.
a wise man once said it doesnt matter how many tools you have at your disposal but how you use them that counts
Great watch, thanks for spotlighting a true melee legend
It blows my mind that people don't just spam projectiles when borp is spot-dodge spamming. Borp is punishing his opponent's arrogance. Hilarious.
The amount of times Nakamaru tries to *grab* of all things when Borp spotdodges is insane. It basically never worked out but he kept doing it. 0 Adaptation.
well i think much of it comes from sheik as a character, that if u really think of it doesnt lose so much of its competetive capabilities when excluding techskill as much as other chars would do if u remove WD and Lcancel.
I remember back then when no one of our guys knew about competetive melee, we used to hate how this character could combo so well :D we called it the breakdancer cuz of the downsmash spam and the ftilt dtilt and whatsoever being able to come out so fast and perfectly connects into each other
True. Techskill or not, Sheik has good buttons.
Borp where ever you are…I love you bro you’re the bomb.
gr8 vod
Thank you Ludvix! Love you lollllll
@@Lil_Homie rofl ay dm me on twitter tho?
i love his style of play, what a niche and cool player. also he seems like a chill guy, its no wonder why he is so loved
I love how every melee player history video is always about some dude with the worst name ever. I feel like I’m 3 clicks away from finding a video on some guy named “Big Ball Bob” who was like a top pichu or something
Thanks bro, watching this made my mind go on a tangent and be happy about the people I'm close too
Hope it all ends well in the end man. There is always something positive in your life that'll be there for you
I'm sure he could be a top player if he did all that tech. But it's clear he wouldn't have fun. He has the mentality and reactions required. He proves fundies is golden.
As one wise youtube commenter said long ago, "Borp is so low tech he's amish"
Great video love the little stories about melee
20:45 the dude yelling ''oh my god he wavedashed!!!'' fucking killed me lmao
Really great video! Thanks for putting it together
he’s literally just playing ult
As intended* ftfy
I loved the shit out of finally seeing more borp footage
My friend played borp. He kept screaming when borp grabbed him to mess up his tech chase. Borp didnt seem too pleased and didnt say a word to him
Adore your content. Wishing you a long youtube career.
This was very well made and inspiring! You've earned my sub bro (So close to 1k! lets get it!)
i love how borp’s opponent started spamming spot dodges after borp wavedashed
I played against borp in doubles at a pittsburgh local a couple of weeks ago. I think I got shieldgrabbed at least 10 times in one game. no matter what I did it just felt like I gravitated to the spot in front of his shield every single time. playing against him was so alien to everything else I've ever experienced in the game
Borp is the the avatar for every single person who ever played smash and was the best in their friend group. We are all garbage when it came to tech skill, but our friends got so mad everytime we won anyways
People may goof on him for not using tech but to have success playing that way takes ABSURD game knowledge
banger video, keep up the good work dawg!
No one:
Borp's Opponents: He's just standing there! MENACINGLY!
