- Rising star Errol Spence Jr. faced Alejandro Barrera at The Bomb Factory in Dallas, TX on Saturday, November 28, 2015. The fight was broadcast live on NBC as part of the Premier Boxing Champions series.
Spence Jr. has been referenced by big names such as Floyd Mayweather as being the next big thing in the sport of boxing and he certainly gave further proof of this with his performance against Barrera.
Although it took Spence Jr. a round or so to adjust to Barrera's awkward fighting style, Spence Jr. quickly adapted and took control early in the fight. After the first round, Barrera's 6.5" reach advantage was no match for the up-and-comer.
By as early as round 2, Barrera showed signs of wear, and in round 4 Spence Jr. landed an uppercut which turned Barrera's legs to wet noodles momentarily.
In round 5, Spence Jr. dropped Barrera with a hard shot to the ribs. He managed to make it back to his feet but a determined Spence Jr. quickly launched an assault that would force the judge to call off the fight.
Errol Spence Jr. won by TKO and remains undefeated with 19 victories.

The first time I seen Errol, in this one, what a great Champion, this man just brings it, not just great headshots, the bodywork is nothing short of amazing. WOW

When it’s written in your job description that there’s a possibility it could affect your health or even kill you why would you want to be a boxer? because the guy that’s in there with you doesn’t want CTE or death but he’s going to try his hardest to give it to you instead. Alejandro Barrera is experienced. He has a total of 31 fights, 28 wins and 3 losses; He's definitely a solid fighter and I'm sure his experience was a factor in this fight --he landed some clever shots on his competitor. Errol Spence on the other hand, is a beast with serious power. I'd like to see him fight Keith Thurman eventually.

A lot of people pointing out the fact that Spence got touched a few times in this fight, but nobody giving him credit for his ability to make adjustment. If you pay attention, in his fights it's like his opponent may get off a few things in the first 2 or 3 rounds but after that Spence adjusts and you rarely see him get hit clean, it's just stalking his guy down from there on out, the other guy it's already worn down from all the body shots

Errol Spence is dynamic. He keeps the pressure on his opponents until they wilt. Barrera is a good boxer who paced it well with Spence for a much of the fight but eventually Spence's hard punching - particularly to Barrera's body - wore him down and he lost the ability to fight back.
That 1-2 combination at 13:25 was a thing of beauty.

Rewatching some earlier Spence fights while we make our way through this pandemic. This was a really good fight. Barrera came to fight and he was as game as they come.
But he got absolutely blown up in that last round! To see I guy with a heart that big get pulverized into submission is scary.
I think this fight and the one against Algieri sees Spence at his sharpest.
I was really underwhelmed at his movement and conditioning against Porter.
I hope he regains this type of form in the future.

Barrera stepped on his foot through this fight to keep him in punching range. It's a cagey veteran move but the flip side is that Barrera is in punching range too. It was beautiful to watch him make a punishing adjustment at 13:28 and truly discipline Barrera for his insolence with a fierce 1-2. He never did it again

I like Earl Spence's temperament as a young fighter. He doesn't seem overwhelmed by the hype of the Mayweather camp/entourage. I think he's the best fighter in that camp, period. Another Al Haymon masterstroke and in my opinion a future World champion at Welter and even super welter. and possibly at Middle. his body type and boxing abilities are that of a mature fighter and one that move up the weights in the future.

Errol Spence ability to measure and cover distance, in-out side-side lateral movement, and precision striking is phenomenal. Reminds me off the way Conor McGregor in the ufc moves.

What people who don't like spence don't understand is that being an olympian and touted prospect means guys bring their A game to beat him.
Also we have countless examples of where a contender can win a major world title at the first attempt against strong champions ala rigondeuax fury etc. styles make fights and I can make an argument that his style matches up well against Thurman, porter khan or any top welterweight. He is developing every fight and this guys was 28-2 which almost double the experience of spence so he is meant to be able to bring some other things to the table which he did. Ultimately he lost. If you don't believe in spence now that's fine but you will eventually.

I wouldn't say that, really. Pacquiao was toying with Algieri, who is really a blown-up Lightweight with no punch power. It's easy to bully someone that can't hurt you, right? The main difference between the Pac and Spence fights is that the referee stepped in and called it. Algieri took a beating in Macau as well but the ref let it go on. Yet another thing to remember is that Algieri was undefeated when he took on Pacquiao, he was coming off that win over Provodnikov so his confidence was high. Khan couldn't do anything with Algieri, I agree on that

If you watch Spence's more recent fights , he now moves his head more subtly and is learning upper body defense and not just guard up and foot movements! With how I see Spence's development over his last few fights! I have Spence winning 7-8th rd stoppage! The fight will be competitive for the first 3 rds. And then the effects of those viscous Spence body Shots will begin to have more effect on a fighter who last fought at 160 ( I think he jumped in the ring at 175- after hydration with g ) ! Lawrence Cole redeemed himself in my eyes in this fight. I have been a critic for a long time. In this fight he was right on with his refereeing and the stoppage. Spence was taking some hard shots early but began landing the cleaner shots and the more powerful as the fight wore on. Great fight!
