In The Hobbit, Gandalf recruits Bilbo to join the dwarves as their14th member because 13 is unlucky. He doesn’t want to go because hobbits generally don’t like adventures. The dwarves sing this song in his house, and I think it played a big part in convincing him to go. The lyrics were written by J.R.R. Always nice to see family joining in on the reaction! Phoenix did a great job on this video, and loved her reaction to Geoff's low notes (although these were "only" G1s, and not nearly as low as Geoff can go)! To answer Phoenix's question about Geoff's range: Geoff's verified low is a B0 (subharmonic) in both the Halo theme, and in Valhalla Calling. He MAY have hit an A0 (subharmonic) in Enemy, but that one still seems to be a little up-in-the-air from some musically-inclined reactors. If you're not familiar with how low those are - the A0 is the first white key on a piano, the B0 is the 2nd white key on the piano - so Geoff may eventually work his way completely off the piano in the future! Geoff's high is an A#5 in the short Peaches, really a rock-tenor scream. All of these are in VoicePlay videos, so getting to know them will also help you get to know Geoff! Speaking of VoicePlay shorts/minis - Mrs. Realistic, have you ever considered bundling a few VoicePlay minis for a reaction? They have several dozen of them (I think), all about 1 minute long, with a variety of featured artists.
YES! And of course as a consumate professional, Geoff just keeps getting better! His lows are even lower now than they were when he recorded Misty Mountains1 He was also a Tenor before he started playing with his lower range so he is a vocal beast! Plus Geoff solo-covered Jack's Lament which also shows off even better lows than what he had here. Geoff has done SO MANY awesome things! . :)

Hi I think you should react to Tim Foust and Peter Hollens singing Misty Mountains if you haven't. Tim hits a deep note near the end. Peter is a great singer also he has sang on a couple of Home Free songs
But it was actually the dwarfs who sang this in the Hobbit - Unexpected Journey. With Technology there are several artists who create videos of themselves singing & backup singers and play different instruments.
Lol so funny you picked Geoff to corrupt her on... I mean start reactions on. You may like both watching voiceplay disney covers together. We dont talk about Bruno and The Little Mermaid medley are actually two of their most watched videos. Sleeping in the cold below is like a space shanty
There is a video where Geoff demonstrates his vocal range. He said that at any given time, without trying, he can go from A1 to A5. He has regularly gone higher and lower.
“Now for some music!” said Thorin. “Bring out the instruments!” Kili and Fili rushed for their bags and brought back little fiddles; Dori, Nori, and Ori brought out flutes from somewhere inside their coats; Bombur produced a drum from the hall; Bifur and Bofur went out too, and came back with clarinets that they had left among the walking-sticks. Dwalin and Balin said: “Excuse me, I left mine in the porch!” “Just bring mine in with you!” said Thorin. They came back with viols as big as themselves, and with Thorin’s harp wrapped in a green cloth. It was a beautiful golden harp, and when Thorin struck it the music began all at once, so sudden and sweet that Bilbo forgot everything else, and was swept away into dark lands under strange moons, far over The Water and very far from his hobbit-hole under The Hill. The dark came into the room from the little window that opened in the side of The Hill; the firelight flickered -- it was April -- and still they played on, while the shadow of Gandalf’s beard wagged against the wall. The dark filled all the room, and the fire died down, and the shadows were lost, and still they played on. And suddenly first one and then another began to sing as they played, deep-throated singing of the dwarves in the deep places of their ancient homes; and this is like a fragment of their song, if it can be like their song without their music. _Far over the misty mountains cold_ _To dungeons deep and caverns old_ _We must away ere break of day_ _To seek the pale enchanted gold._ _The dwarves of yore made mighty spells,_ _While hammers fell like ringing bells_ _In places deep, where dark things sleep,_ _In hollow halls beneath the fells._ _For ancient king and elvish lord_ _There many a gleaming golden hoard_ _They shaped and wrought, and light they caught_ _To hide in gems on hilt of sword._ _On silver necklaces they strung_ _The flowering stars, on crowns they hung_ _The dragon-fire, in twisted wire_ _They meshed the light of moon and sun._ _Far over the misty mountains cold_ _To dungeons deep and caverns old_ _We must away, ere break of day,_ _To claim our long-forgotten gold._ _Goblets they carved there for themselves_ _And harps of gold; where no man delves_ _There lay they long, and many a song_ _Was sung unheard by men or elves._ _The pines were roaring on the height,_ _The winds were moaning in the night._ _The fire was red, it flaming spread;_ _The trees like torches blazed with light._ _The bells were ringing in the dale_ _And men looked up with faces pale;_ _The dragon’s ire more fierce than fire_ _Laid low their towers and houses frail._ _The mountain smoked beneath the moon;_ _The dwarves, they heard the tramp of doom._ _They fled their hall to dying fall_ _Beneath his feet, beneath the moon._ _Far over the misty mountains grim_ _To dungeons deep and caverns dim_ _We must away, ere break of day,_ _To win our harps and gold from him!_ As they sang, the hobbit felt the love of beautiful things made by hands and by cunning and by magic moving through him, a fierce and a jealous love, the desire of the hearts of dwarves. Then something Tookish woke up inside him, and he wished to go and see the great mountains, and hear the pine-trees and the waterfalls, and explore the caves, and wear a sword instead of a walking-stick. He looked out of the window. The stars were out in a dark sky above the trees. He thought of the jewels of the dwarves shining in dark caverns. Suddenly in the wood beyond The Water a flame leapt up -- probably somebody lighting a wood-fire -- and he thought of plundering dragons settling on his quiet Hill and kindling it all to flames. He shuddered; and very quickly he was plain Mr. Baggins of Bag-End, Under-Hill, again.
Your daughter ask how high he can go. For up and down I STRONGLY recommand the Hoogy Boogy Song (Voiceplay) since it is not yet in you watched playlist. It will give youba really good idea of his 5 octave range.

I think I read somewhere that vocalists like Geoff can sing or produce sub-harmonics (not sure if that’s the right term) that the human ear can’t process but we can feel. I went to a The Warning concert in Denver and I was front row on Ale’s side of the stage. I was standing almost directly in front of Ale’s bass cab onstage and directly in front of the floor PA speaker which includes the bass speakers. Let’s just say that I felt that concert every bit as much as I heard it. Every time Pau nailed her kick or floor toms or Ale played a deep note I could literally feel my insides vibrate. That was such a cool and weird experience and I’m still alive and kicking so it’s all good…lol.
Altho you've already reacted to I See Fire, you could do it again with her on board. It's the same characters as this one, and Geoff goes both higher and lower and spreads the lead lyrics around more. I'd like to see what she thinks.
@@MrsRealistic You could also check Peter Hollens' version of Misty Mountains. He actually put up two versions. Choose the later one (from 8 years ago), the one with Tim Foust supplying the bass voices. The whole thing is acapella, with scads of overlay tracks. Sounds like a whole chorus. Tim's low range is roughly equivalent to Geoff's.
She doesn't have any social media or phone with access to the internet. We protect all of our kids when it comes to that. Thank you for your concern tho. We're super aware of internet dangers for kids.
Mom You and your daughter are going thru Rabbit Hole of Geoff and Voiceplay. Both of you wondering on Geoff do those low Bass. Bass can be at low notes to ones are called Subharmonics. On his channel, Geoff explains on how he does it without damaging his vocal cords. By the way, Geoff has vocal range to 4 or 5 Octaves with subharmonics.
well geoff mastered both vocal fry and subharmonic as a barriton bass singer myself i can do it too but clearly not at this level! there is technics for highter range and lower range it's just that there is less low type singers than "hight" type singer it's why you asked " how he can do this?" the answer is simple it's both his range and his technics nothing "impossible" as long as you have the right type of voice, the technics and the training! i have both the type of voice and the technics but i lack in experience and so the training it's the diference! Don"t look at his voice as " inhuman" there is just less singers of that type and so less teachers!
I know the book... I've never seen the movie tho. My dad read it to me when I was a kid. I've wanted to see it for a while... I'm going to have to look for it now! 😊

If she wants to hear how high he can go y'all should listen to his cover of High and Dry by Radiohead.
Welcome to the channel young lady!
Great suggestion! I haven't heard that one yet!
Quelles voix...
You should play her his cover of Bill Withers, Ain't no Sunshine When She's Gone. Or Voice Plays 7 Nation Army.
Show Oogie boogie❤❤❤
The song is about when Smaug the Dragon attacks Erebor, the Dwarves home.
Wow your daughter looks just like you!!! Has she heard The Warning??
Nope! I'm not sure which one to show her first. I've told her about them, but she hasn't heard them yet!
Great to meet Phoenix. Spelling?
Yup, correct! Just like the bird!
Lol so funny you picked Geoff to corrupt her on... I mean start reactions on.
You may like both watching voiceplay disney covers together. We dont talk about Bruno and The Little Mermaid medley are actually two of their most watched videos.
Sleeping in the cold below is like a space shanty
Space shanty sounds awesome 👌 😁
Phoenix has the official "Geoff face" now. 😂
😄 Yes, I agree!
There is a video where Geoff demonstrates his vocal range. He said that at any given time, without trying, he can go from A1 to A5. He has regularly gone higher and lower.
His range is insane!
You should also listen to this song by Tim and Peter….!!!
I've got that up on the list! 😊👍
Has she seen acapella music? Would be fun to see her reaction to VoicePlay!.. Ok, NVM I commented too soon. lol Superstition will be a great pick! ❤
Yes! Superstition was he first acapella song she's heard. It was fun! I'll have that up soon!
My biggest music flex is that I can do this song
Well that's a pretty big flex honestly!
Mother daughter...more like twins!
Awww, thank you 😊
“Now for some music!” said Thorin.
And suddenly first one and then another began to sing as they played, deep-throated singing of the dwarves in the deep places of their ancient homes; and this is like a fragment
of their song, if it can be like their song without their music.
_Far over the misty mountains cold_
_To dungeons deep and caverns old_
_We must away ere break of day_
_To seek the pale enchanted gold._
_The dwarves of yore made mighty spells,_
_While hammers fell like ringing bells_
_In places deep, where dark things sleep,_
_In hollow halls beneath the fells._
_For ancient king and elvish lord_
_There many a gleaming golden hoard_
_They shaped and wrought, and light they caught_
_To hide in gems on hilt of sword._
_On silver necklaces they strung_
_The flowering stars, on crowns they hung_
_The dragon-fire, in twisted wire_
_They meshed the light of moon and sun._
_Far over the misty mountains cold_
_To dungeons deep and caverns old_
_We must away, ere break of day,_
_To claim our long-forgotten gold._
_Goblets they carved there for themselves_
_And harps of gold; where no man delves_
_There lay they long, and many a song_
_Was sung unheard by men or elves._
_The pines were roaring on the height,_
_The winds were moaning in the night._
_The fire was red, it flaming spread;_
_The trees like torches blazed with light._
_The bells were ringing in the dale_
_And men looked up with faces pale;_
_The dragon’s ire more fierce than fire_
_Laid low their towers and houses frail._
_The mountain smoked beneath the moon;_
_The dwarves, they heard the tramp of doom._
_They fled their hall to dying fall_
_Beneath his feet, beneath the moon._
_Far over the misty mountains grim_
_To dungeons deep and caverns dim_
_We must away, ere break of day,_
_To win our harps and gold from him!_
As they sang, the hobbit felt the love of beautiful things made by hands and by cunning and by magic moving through him, a fierce and a jealous love, the desire of the hearts of dwarves.
And don't forget to watch some Voiceplay, all acapella, except when Layne decides to throw a violin into the mix.
We did VoicePlay Superstition 😁👍
A better sample of Geoff's talent is the song I See Fire from the second Hobbit movie.
Your daughter ask how high he can go. For up and down I STRONGLY recommand the Hoogy Boogy Song (Voiceplay) since it is not yet in you watched playlist. It will give youba really good idea of his 5 octave range.
Thank you! 😁
I hope mum introduces daughter to The Warning . . . 💐❤👍🇳🇿twa
It's a definite yes on that one! Not sure which one to show her first! 😄
@@MrsRealistic "Evolve" at the VMAs a damn good start . . . Depends on her taste . . .
Ya could do" Revenent" at Teatro . . I dont think youve done that one . .
Or my current fav is "Hell You Call a Dream "
@@rogerreed905 I think Hell you call a Dream was the first, or second one I ever did. Definitely one of my ultimate favs! But I still have to do Evolve live as well at their newest Six Feet Deep!
@@MrsRealistic ive watched so many its hard to remember whos done what . .
💐👋🍻🇳🇿
@@rogerreed905 I have a hard time remembering what I'VE done 😆😆😆
Geoff's range is from A0 to A#5. Try finding those on a piano. :)
It's pretty insane!!
It's by far my favorite from Geoff so far! He blew me away with how high he went!
@@DougRayPhillips Very cool! Thanks!
Also check out Monster Mash.
Would love to see her react to some corvyx
I'll have to check him out! 😊
@@MrsRealistic please do
If she's over 18, cool. If not, protect her from the internet.
She doesn't have any social media or phone with access to the internet. We protect all of our kids when it comes to that. Thank you for your concern tho. We're super aware of internet dangers for kids.
16 yr old reaction 🤭
Woman reaction 🤤
😄 You've got that right!
white queen W 👑👑
show her "Monster Mash" by Geoff. That should have been the first introduction for her
@@larrychristian7239 I'm sure she'll love anything he does... she really likes him! Thanks for the suggestion! 😁
Try Oogie Boogie Man that Voice Play covers. You will get a wide range for his vocals there
Thanks!
Mom
You and your daughter are going thru Rabbit Hole of Geoff and Voiceplay. Both of you wondering on Geoff do those low Bass. Bass can be at low notes to ones are called Subharmonics. On his channel, Geoff explains on how he does it without damaging his vocal cords. By the way, Geoff has vocal range to 4 or 5 Octaves with subharmonics.
Please react with your daughter the dwarvish normal and metal version of this Song by Colm Mcguinness
well geoff mastered both vocal fry and subharmonic as a barriton bass singer myself i can do it too but clearly not at this level! there is technics for highter range and lower range it's just that there is less low type singers than "hight" type singer it's why you asked " how he can do this?" the answer is simple it's both his range and his technics nothing "impossible" as long as you have the right type of voice, the technics and the training! i have both the type of voice and the technics but i lack in experience and so the training it's the diference! Don"t look at his voice as " inhuman" there is just less singers of that type and so less teachers!
B0 is his lowest note.
It’s not so crazy for someone to do songs playing/singing all parts. Don’t Worry Be Happy
You haven't seen The Hobbit? You need to fix that. They took one book and made three movies out of it.
I know the book... I've never seen the movie tho. My dad read it to me when I was a kid. I've wanted to see it for a while... I'm going to have to look for it now! 😊
Tum Foust is better.
I hate to be "that" guy, buuuuuttttt you spelled.bass wrong in the thumbnail. Quickly runs away.......
😂😆🤣 OMG Good catch! *quickly runs to fix thumbnail*....
Ya’ll talk to much sorry 😊
I'm trying to help her feel comfortable in front of a camera. She's very shy naturally.
I think geoffquakes are lost on the young ones
She'll get there one day 😂
