The astute among you will realize that’s not a 1963 Corvette. My memory failed me on this one as it was indeed a 1960. Numbers start to become a blur over the years! Thanks for all the support.
You or Ed.. idk who's better at telling a story❤️
Yep I caught that too. I was like that is like a 1953 Corvette
@Peter Lemonjello no way, top two storytellers here are Chris and Rabbit, no contest
Well you are getting old but ur also handsome daddy
@switchcars Your story is right about not wanting to drive it. I have driven a 64 corvette stingray manual ... Never again you made me bust up laughing when you said that...
"It was completely out of my control" he said after he consistently ignored his GPS that was trying to save him
I've taken to the habit of, if the GPS is telling me something "weird", to stop and figure out why. The map would probably have shown closed roads; at least Waze does.
Lol
@@johnhufnagel yeah like if he was using Apple Maps, it’s literally garbage so it’s possible the gps didn’t tell him that
Did you not hear his description of the tires ?
@@mauriciosanchez144 prob a while back if he's using a GPS device weren't too reliable
I like how he not only said mustangs are notorious for oversteering but that they are notorious for oversteering into crowds 😂
Much appreciated having been in said crowd, twice.
As an owner of a similar 2003 Mustang GT, I can confirm. I spun out once and took out a road sign. Luckily no injuries and only bumper cover was damaged.
It was the rear end setup that caused it. The crowds getting hit us because people get too close but oversteer and solid rear end can = chaos
🤣😂🤣😂🤣
@@jringhisen damn you almost got hit twice?
When I heard, "Do you think I'll get head in this car?" My immediate thought was Not From Me!
He should have replied "the passenger is the one that gives head to the driver."
@@rnash999 You don’t want to say that to such an idiot. He may think you’re being serious and attempt to “treat” you.
I don't think any of these top "Mr. Invincible" but I am very glad to not have to deal with test drives anymore.
Watching that again after this hahah
ruclips.net/video/uJqouvsOPJs/видео.html
I forgot about Mr. Ficarra as well. Fucking tripod.
Isn’t a test drive standard on buying new or used vehicles?
I agree 😂
Yea I would agree Mr. Invincible takes the cake! Once he said that my mind would run so many ways so fast!
The whole test drive thing is tricky. On the one hand yes it's a liability, but on the other hand, it's like why would they take your word for it that the car is good. Especially when you're talking about the kind of money these guys are wanting to spend.
Yep anyone selling a car who doesn't expect potential buyers to want to test drive it is not living in the real world, and the name of anybody who wants to buy a car (particularly an expensive one) without taking it for a test drive is Fool.
I agree hearing him complain about people wanting to test drive a car they're buying was cringey
@@HakeemKaree did you miss the part that he didnt want to offer test drives in black ice conditions? or that he didnt want to run a restored classic on salted roads? those parts are understandable. it'd be like buying a boat up north and expecting a sea trial that involved busting the hull through the ice to get to open water. hell no!
The other thing your're missing, is these people were absolute douchenozzles. you dont show up to look at and potentially purchase a high end car, and act like a joke. You show class and respect, and if you dont have those things and all you have is money, you get treated how you deserve.
Remove black ice or shitty roads with salt, and I guarantee these dudes would grant a test drive to someone who presented themselves with class and respect for the car and the person selling it.
Furthermore, when you’re buying a car through a private dealer or broker like this, it’s not the same as the dealership or some lot with cars. You’re paying for the reputation of the person sourcing the car for you. There’s a premium price being paid, and part of that pay for the piece of mind knowing they’re not selling you something that has a hidden issue 20 miles down the road. The same cannot be said for other methods of purchase. Having a relationship with guys like this, is the kind of thing where you here someone say, “yeah that’s my guy so-and-so, he’s my car guy. Majority of their transactions are with repeat clients who continually buy and trade cars with them over the years. There’s no reason for a test drive in most cases.
It’s an entirely unique car buying experience, it’s nothing like what we have to deal with when we go to the dealership or the used lot. For us, it’s a game of, who is gonna bend over first. Getting the deal you want to get is often a matter of having the balls to be a little bit of a dick and stand your ground. And yeah you absolutely test drive it, especially if it’s used, you gotta see if it makes some awful sound or doesn’t shift it whatever. THATs what’s test drive is for.
I totally agree. If that's the dudes policy OK, but you have to tell your client that. I doubt I would fly to a city to "see" a car. Facetime can do that with no jet lag
The shirt is fitting on a used cae salesman!
You can tell this guy is a crook and making all excuses to look legit!
Doug can wear it as a joke. Some dealers wouldn't wear it if you paid them to. I know the rep used car salesman have, but doug and ed bolian aren't those guys. Trust me.
I'm with you on most of these, but jeez replace 10 year old tires if you are a dealer trying to sell a car!
That's lost margin on cars that end up not being driven after purchase.
Wouldn't the tech who saftey the car, recommend new tires? Lol
@@modifide huh saftey a car?
@@modifide Have safetied many a car. That's not usually a thing that gets checked, at least in my state - and all 50 states are different.
Usually we would replace tires, but sometimes we don’t. Tires are a personal choice on specialty cars that reflect the type of use of the buyer. What if we spent $1500 on good r-compounds for handling and the buyer was going to drag race it? I’m very particular about tires for my car and I’d personally rather get a slight discount on a car and pick my own tires than buy one that the dealer put on crappy all-seasons or something and then have to pay them back for a bad decision. Therefore, sometimes we leave them alone, inform the buyer, and let them make the choice on rubber.
The easy answer to test drives is, proof of funds first, then "you break it, you bought it"
That's exactly how I ended up buying my 96 mustang S281 clone..live axle and a stream of water in a turn on semi worn street radials🤔😞
Test-drove my first Ferrari - a 328 gts I ended up buying. Seller forgot, or assumed, I knew about the emergency brake, as it lived between the driver’s seat and the door-sill. The brake-lever collapsed when not in-use to allow the driver to get in and out of the seat without the lever being in-the-way....but to everyone else, it looks like it’s disengaged. So, I drove the car for a few miles - it seemed pretty sluggish for some reason....and there was smoke from the rear wheels when I stopped. Oops....
I have politely asked anytime l am buying a car model l have not been in before for them to give me all the stupidly obvious things that anyone should know. And they always do but l do get looks every now and then. When you explain to them it's because you know you are going to not know something simple and don't want to damage it and cost them or you money. It works pretty well.
I love how he starts off saying they sell exotics and follows that with an Supercharged '04 Mustang GT lol
What do you do for a living " Moon Wolf '?
@@joshmihalik5151 it’s true though... Mustangs aren’t exotic here.
Well it's no different than when a ford dealer sells a different brand car
Imagine calling a mustang an exotic in America. Is ge one of these Americans who think the only countries in the world are US, Canada, Mexico, England and "other ones"
I guess Rabbit would have had some fun with that crude Porsche guy.
so. if you spin out in a manual car, be sure to put the clutch in. lol, noted 😂😂😂
In a spin, both feet in.
wasn't it damaged while in dealers name ? wouldn't that mean he sold a damaged car ? lol
@340bärgarN it's america dude. It absolutely boggles my mind that there you take your driver's test in an automatic and can just jump in a manual car without anyone giving a damn
Either clutch in or keep your foot on the gas - either way don’t let the wheels rotate the wrong way! But yes, as taught in racing school - in a spin, both feet in.
@@arvilsstraume9304 seriously man, i wish I would’ve learned manual for my driver’s test. I am “learning” right now, pretty much got it down after an hour of practice. If they had let me practice on a car while getting my license, it would’ve been so much more useful and easier. Plus I would’ve learned “the right way,” instead of self taught.
Dude, trust me I'm an awesome race car driver, I just did the Richard Petty Experience in Orlando Florida...
Love this channel. Ed and Doug definitely tell the best stories. Keep up the epic work. Look forward to more stories.
Ice on the road "close the highways" meanwhile in finland: ice on the road? Ah what a lovely summer morning.
Dude should have just said no when he realized the guy wasn't a car guy, because he was reving the shit out of it at a dead stop 😅

I love that country club race track, got a discount from GM when i bought my Corvette to go there and basically learn how to drive the limit of it in a safe controlled environment. Spring Mountain is the name!
Wicked new VINwiki is just what I needed Ed! When I see it’s the “Mexican STIG” it just makes it better. Only way I’d be more stoked is if rabbit was in the house lol
This guy is not Mexican ... the true mexican stig is Sergio Pérez
Doug & Ed are my favourite story tellers on this channel.
Yeah I don't like this guy Ever since his episode about harassing a guy with a "fake " lambo
Thanks for the cool car stories, Ed. Doug has a lot of them and his own very special personality and perspective. I'm from Maine originally and recognize some New England flavor.
Good to know that test drive Bj's are where you draw the line in your shrewd negotiation skills.🤣😂🤣😂
I went for a test drove a very nice 2002 mustang gt with my buddy in anchorage Alaska in the summer time and turned off a 4 lane road but mid turn was hit driverside by a truck with snow plow still attached, the car was totaled and my friend and I were covered in glass and shame but the dealer lost it they tried to make me buy the car. I counter with I just wanted to test drive it. I just had to pay my insurance deductible and was on my way. Best test drive story ever.
"What makes you think you can drive a fully restored '63 Corvette on salty roads?"
"Nobody buys a '63 Corvette for how it drives, it drives terribly." 🤣 shut down
Worked at a dealer and a lady to out a new wrangler rubicon she was gone for almost an hour and when she showed back up it was covered in a inch of mud, I was laughing inside but very one was pissed.
Sounds like she actually appreciates the vehicle type. Unlike most soccer moms who buy ford expeditions to take their kids to Wal-Mart.
The idea of something in Pahrump being a destination is hilarious to me.
He's two minutes in to every test drive when shit hits the fan.
It is pretty unreasonable to expect someone to buy a car they can't test drive.
I'm thinking that he has enough experience selling cars that he know who to allow to test drive or not test drive a vehicle. Also, growing up in Upstate NY, I don't think it was unreasonable to not allow a person to test drive a performance car on a snow/ice covered road coated in road salt.
@@garys1266 there's no reason you can't test drive a car in snow reasonably. And I have enough experience buying cars to know if someone told me I couldn't test drive a car then they can find a new customer.
@@drewcaptian3127 OK we'll agree to disagree, but we aren't talking about a Toyota Camry here. We are talking about cars that most people won't drive in rain let alone on a salty winter road after they buy it.
@@garys1266 its clear you've not bought many cars just stay in your lane.
@@drewcaptian3127 Oh OK...
It's endlessly fascinating how Doug constantly has to keep himself from saying what he really wants to say but feels he just can't for whatever reason.
We gave a guy a loaner and got a call the next day about him driving 120mph through town and ran a guy on a motorcycle off the road. We tried calling him to get the car back but he never answered the phone. Finally got him to bring it back 3 days later after threatening to call the police and filing a stolen vehicle report. We have also had at least 4 totaled loaners in the last month and people complain that we don't "LOAN" them our cars anymore.
Not being able to test drive a car is a deal breaker for me. Its like buying perfume without smelling it before ;)
Yea I could understand not driving the vette in the heart of a winter storm and/or salt covered roads. Makes sense. But questioning why a customer would want to test drive a pretty normal car like a mustang? Sounds like a hard way to sell cars
@@richardp444
[Sounds like a hard way to sell cars ...]
The conditions weren't 100% and the guy wasn't respecting the car from the beginning. It was the right call.
@@richardp444 A supercharged Mustang in winter with icy conditions. That's quite a difference than just any mustang in any summer conditions.
Not always the customer. I went to test drive a used Dodge Daytona around 1990. Nice little turbo car. Dealer has to drive off the lot, so he gets in, then remember s something and gets back out. On a slight hill.... The car started to roll forward into a traffic on a busy road. I pulled hard on the emergency brake, nothing. So I drove from the passenger seat and got it on the shoulder and into the grass. Salesman comes running, cussing the world. Took a bit for him to calm down. Never did apologize for cussing me. Or for potentially getting me in an accident with a manual transmission car with a faulty e brake.
I think only a sucker would buy a car without test driving it first! Good, bad or indifferent, a test drive is an automatically assumed prerequisite before an exchange of funds or ownership should take place! Just sayin.
Yea I agree but supercars during winter is an obvious exception
Yeah, I completely agree. I understand the supercar in the winter and such, but I would also ask to drive it.
Totally agree, weather permitting!
You're not going to get to drive a supercharged Mustang with S tires on road surfaces with below freezing temperatures without wrapping it around the first solid object you see.
Winters in NE Ohio are no joke and no way would you want to take out a nice ride with the amount of salt they drop on the roads here to keep them somewhat driveable.
@@iknklst yeah I get that, I live in Canada so I know the realities of winter driving and the hazards driving a powerful vehicle in poor conditions can be.
I still believe though that the seller should make it a bit more clear that a test drive is not possible, rather than believing it is implied. To be honest, I think that Doug comes off as quite a big dick in his story and if he were to act in the same manner to me if I were potentially purchasing one of his vehicles, I don’t think I’d do business with him.
The mustang customer sounds like my dad 🤣
Love your channel and what you do
Love Doug's stories
i like dougs stories he always tells the best stories and its the way he tells them :)
A video of some of the guys telling stories about the worst things or experiences the guys had to go through to get the sell of the car would be interesting definitely from Ed.
Is it me or does this guy always act like he is the smartest guy in the room?
Imagine thinking that someone coming in from out of state isn't going to want to test drive an expensive used mustang.
The weather conditions are also a factor though. And the guy obviously lacked manners and mechanical sympathy. Who thinks its ok to just be revving another mans car to redline in a parking lot and without asking?!
I'm going out on a limb here but i believe 8 out of the 10 times a car goes into a crowd leaving a car meet its abs taking over to blame. If in any of those situations you were able to lock 4 tires up instantly and entirely.. the cars would slide to a quick stop. Thats what i believe. Abs is great for most people daily driving. But it is an almost guarantee to cause more damage rather than prevent any in the case of low vehicle speed wheel spin situations.
I learned some things today nice video!
As a lot attendant I told a salesmen and a sales manager that a truck needed gas before the test drive. That the truck just got through the PDI and was completely empty. 15km max.
Truck ram out of gas and I had to bring them gas.
Still laugh about it
I have a 2018 Mustang GT PP1 manual and I made an appointment to test drive a 2019 Camaro SS 1LE manual. I gave them my driver's license and insurance before I arrived, however, when I got there, they said I couldn't drive it because I am too young. They should have told me that from my information I sent before I came. They said you can drive the car if you commit to buying it, so I said how do you expect me to commit to buy the car without driving it first? I left after a little more back and forth that went no where.
Good stories!
Seeing that Mustang took me back to the Ebaums World days before RUclips. The video of the guy who took a Terminator out on a test drive and beat the tar out of it with the salesman there and then said he didnt like red when he got back to the dealership.

God I miss my 01 Mustang so much, massive nostalgia when showing the interior and under the hood.
Of course mine wasn't nearly as nice lol
How many crowds did you crash into while you had it?
When you're in your GT3 while your prospect spins the car, put it in neutral
I'm assuming the Crook shirt is in reference to all the people you screwed over when you were younger.
Would you buy a car without test driving it?
No, that’s like buying a house without walking through it
Yes, if the car doesn't drive
My dad bought the Cayman in my pfp from the Doug in this video. He didn't test drive the car until he hsd committed to buying it. He had driven other Cayman's in the past though beforehand
It all depends on the car
I bought my 2017 GT350 before test driving it. Best decision I ever made.
Used to work at a used car dealer years ago. We had a guy literally do a burnout in front of a city police car on a test drive, in a Dodge neon SRT. Needless to say, some people are idiots.

Doug, the dealership at the motorsports country club in Nevada sounds like a great idea. Was it just the track time that made it not a viable business idea for your dealership?
Well i have to say I might have some better car sales nightmares .....much better , these are very tame lol
Why he says super charged but has a big turbo in the pics ?
My Dad drove an early 60's Vette and his words were it drove and handled like a dump truck. My Dad raced super-stock and built his own race-cars so that kind of stuck with me. He said he had a friend he had one and he could outrun with some Ford because it handled the corners better than the Vette.
