"I'm walking down the street to the Porsche dealership, I'm gonna buy a brand new 911, and you guys are gonna pay for it." By far my favorite line from this story.
Wouldn’t happen like that
@@CivilianM The why did his lawyer tell him to say that line?
@@perro626 His lawyer never would have told him to threaten to buy a car from a different dealer, as there is no way to make anyone pay for it.
@@_PatrickO But you have to read between the lines. You can't take it literally because it won't make any sence. What I undertood was "I'm going to file a lawsuit and buy a Porsche with the money you'll be forced to pay me."

Keep this up man this is the only reason why I wake up early now
You know it's a great story when:
1. I wasn't there and felt myself getting angry as the plot unfolded.
2. This description tells me exactly what it sounded like in that office AND how quiet it went in the rest of the dealership.
Your man has a way with words :)
That sounds like something you would say @Ed

As soon as it was damaged the resale value is gone. Even if it was fixed nobody should take it back
@@snagelpus12gaming98 100% agree, the fact that they would even try to pull that is crazy.
This guy totally gets it. Any brand new car, let alone an E46 M3 is a car guy’s everything and doing anything other than what you bring it to the stealership for is the highest sin. I also totally relate to the OCD about the mileage and break-in.

The dealership that had these plebs working for them should've lost their jobs. Called the customer and told them what happened.
I worked for a BMW dealership in Australia and can and will personally vouch that we as a dealership were typically honest and transparent with customers.
Yep. I truly hate getting MOT for my car. I do everything myself but this is the one time every year I have to go to a garage and let someone else 'work' on the car. BMW of Manhattan I would never suggest. Their service department forgot to properly torque the drain bolt after a oil change and it came undone when crossing out of Manhattan. Oil everywhere and engined ruined. Attorney was needed as they claimed someone must have worked on the car. Good thing was the car only was serviced at BMW of Manhattan until that accident. If you are in NY go to Rallye BMW for service. Long storm short they paid for a new engine.
I also had terrible service at BMW of manhattan. Brought in a car 3 times for leaking AC and on the 3rd time they finally realized it was the evaporator. Took them a week and they broke the windshield and in ny you cannot transfer the inspection sticker so it needed a new inspection but as the battery was disconnected the drive cycle needed to be completed. They drive it all over manhattan to get it inspected. On pickup there were scratches in the A pillars down to the metal and the shifter fell of in my hand pulling away. I was so upset but they did fix everything and got a new bmw windshield.

rule of thumb when servicing a car, when they say a car is done on this day...you come there on that day no need to tell them..just show up
I always schedule maintenance, so if a shop or dealer does not get done when they said they would(within reason) they are going to be dealing with a very unhappy customer. I understand the run-around on walk-ins, but if I schedule a service 3+days in advance, no excuses will cut it(screw someone else around, you made a commitment for this job).
I also learned the hard way to book them in for a Monday or Tuesday, never the end of the week so they can take the car home for the weekend. One dealer tried to tell me 'it was more secure than leaving it at the shop'.. Err, right, and my name is Enzo Ferrari..
@@brolohalflemming7042 Wait what? A dealership actually admitted that someone was trying to take YOUR car home for the weekend? And tried to make an excuse for it?

I can recall a story my Dad told me about someone he worked with. His coworker finally bought his first brand new car (this was in the 60's) and had signed all of the paper work. They then were going to the car in the garage area where a service guy was going to pull it up, after it had just been washed. The car came flying up, didn't stop in time, and hit the building pretty hard. This happened to the guy who had just bought his first brand new car and never got a chance to drive it. I guess he turned to the salesman and told him that they are going to undo the paper work right now. They did and he walked out the door.
My blood pressure got so high watching this, I nearly punched my screen! I don't blame him one bit!
He paid for new and perfect...and he wanted new and perfect. I get it, I understand. If I screwed it up, that's on me. If someone else screwed it up, that's their problem.

Have the same story... back in 2005 I purchased a brand new e46 m3 at our local BMW dealership..At the time it was my second e46 m3 (had a 2004 traded in to order a 2006) and the dealership’s lot attendant hot dogged in the car and wrecked into a light post during first service....Almost fought the lot attendant when found out what happened (truth took sometime to surface which made me more angry) Was 25 at the time and similar to the story, the car was very much out of my price range but lived at home and absolutely cherished the car... After incident I spoke to a lawyer who provided similar advice.. Dealership ended up settling with me outside i
of court, signed a NDA but I made out handsomely and still own the very car from the incident... Great story guys!!! Can absolutely relate to how stressful it was...

The e46 m3 is an amazing car. One of my dream cars. This story was great! I wouldve been furious. I hate when dealers do shady shit like that. They said they weren't gonna even drive it yet it was damaged, repaired, and made a different color. I wouldve done the same thing and make them get me a new one.
My immaculate E46 M3 got keyed when I parked it at my gym. I filed and insurance claim. The shop who did the work absolutely ruined it, the insurance company admitted poor craftsmanship done by the shop, however they let the shop assess the damages made to my vehicle and they have waaaaay underplayed it. I have had the damages assessed by 2 indipendet shop and currently still battling it out with the insurance.
One of the best stories in a while, nice work putting this one up
Dang, Emile. You got my blood pressure elevated just listening to that story. I would have to say you handled that a lot better than most. Keep telling the great stories, and keep up the great job Vinwiki.
My dad leased a 2013 750 Li from the same dealership and the ownership experience was terrible. Not just because that specific BMW had engine and transmission issues through the ass, but also because the dealership was so shrewd and secretive when it came to the car's issues. Over the entire 3 year lease the car was in the shop for at least 4 months in total. Once they had it for a whole month and refused to tell him what was taking so long to fix it. They tried to appease him with driving a brand new 7 series for a few weeks so good to know that strategy has been used a lot by the dealership.
They didn't lend it to someone whose M3 they wrecked did they?

To clarify, I didn't beat on their car, I just drove it everywhere. And let my friends drive it to Las Vegas. I didn't abuse it at all. It was a loaner car, so they expected it to accrue miles.

He never said what happened to the mechanic that wrecked it. I want to know the dude was fired and had to pay for the damages.
i bet there was Hell to pay since the GM was involved.
Most likely he was kept on payroll and the repair bill was garnished from his paycheck, while at the same time the dealer made a claim to their insurance. If the mechanic complained the GM would say it was to cover the rise in the insurance premiums. Then the mechanic's hours would be cut and he'd be given $h!#y assignments until he quit.
Hope not otherwise what's the point of the insurance everybody fucks up now and again.
Hell you gonna head hunt the low wage worker because he can't afford the lawyer to play with these true crooks.

When I worked for a Chevy store, I got into an accident with a Suburban. I was taking it to a stereo shop to get the stereo fixed. The general manager asked me how I was going to pay for the damage and I told him I am not going to. Either the insurance will pay or the dealership will, but according to the law in the state I was in, I was working for the dealership at the time and therefore I was not personally libel. This is a different case as the employee didn't have permission to take the car out, so it could go either way.

I work at an AMG performance center, and we get cars in quite often that have just finished their break-in period. We will ALWAYS inform the customer that we WILL need to drive the car after the diff fluids are changed, and such, because it is vital that we go through the whole car to make sure its working perfectly as intended. And we have once had a car get dinged up while this happend. And let me tell you, we did literally all we could to assist the customer, no hiding anything, we called him the moment we knew about it. This behavior of hiding it from the customer seems to be an American trait... We however ended up fixing the car for the customer, since it was pretty minor. Still a massive fuck up on our behalf, but we owned up to it right there and then. Can't imagine what must have gone through your head! This is why I can never bring myself to buy a new car.
Had nothing to do with the car being brand new. Most people get their cars serviced at a dealer anyway. Also, used car salesmen are worse because they often are selling you a car they know is junk.
Nothing wrong with buying a new car. Just, as much as you can, service it yourself. I bought a new Corolla in 2020. This coming year, when it's due for its first oil change, I will do it myself. Toyota offers two years of free maintenance for every new car sold. I'm not going to take advantage of this free offer. I'm just going to presume that the oil changer person at the dealership will figure out some way to mess up the car. Less hassle for me to do it myself.
@@hamsterama I get what you mean but you should actually take advantage of those free services. I hated changing the oil on my volvo & free service for 2 years on my new toyota is awesome. But I wouldnt trust the dealer for anything other than oil/tire rotations. And only if its free.

Here how its going to go should you need to replace the engine because it start burning a ton of oil, throws a rod or some other catastrophic failure. Dealership will ask for all records of oil changes done by a certified mechanic. Failure to provide said records will result in dealership and corporate saying no new engine your fault not covered under warranty. Like i said seen it with lawyers involved and that whole certified mechanic and documentation of the oil changes was always the sticking point of the many engines i saw replaced under customer dime not warranty.
@@Cohiba2 But I thought that it doesn't void the warranty if you change the oil yourself, as long as you keep records. Like writing down the date and time your changed the oil, and keeping all receipts. If a car starts burning oil or throws a rod, whether the oil was changed or not would have no bearing on that. That's a design flaw, not a maintenance issue. Right now, I'm a couple months away from the oil needing changed (oil needs changed only every 12 months, and I bought the car in March 2020.) I think what I'll do next month is go to Toyota's website and fill out a contact form, asking if I can change the oil myself without voiding the warranty. And if so, what records I need to keep, or if I have to buy the oil and filter from the dealership. That's the only way to know for certain. I just don't trust the clowns in the dealership. It's not their car, so they won't care. At least if I do the maintenance, I know it's going to be done right.
This is what true love looks like 😍 🚗
Wow. Just wow. Love this crazy story.
My first car was an E30 4dr/5spd. This story speaks to me. I currently own 2 E46s. Maintaining them is a pain, but you'll learn a lot. They are well worth it.
