@@roymurray6374 Well we drive on the left and like every country ever there are imported cars, so I don't see why not. It would have a lot of street credibility over here.
Nice! Wasn't sure, since I've heard that the Aussie neighbors want left hand drive cars swapped to right hand drive, and other ridiculous, constrictive rules. Thanks, was curious what the rules stipulated over there.
My wife toys about moving over there, and I tell her, "We have to retire and activate our pensions 1st." Then we have to get her new Dodge Ram Eco diesel, my Crown Vic, and Jeep Wrangler over there and be legal, cause we're not parting with any of those vehicles.😁
My early life was spent in Lincoln’s. My family despite claiming America as our home, still had ties to the old country Dominican Republic. So my dad would buy a car and send it to the DR to use whenever we went there, usually in the summer. The first was a 99 Town Car bought from a taxi cab fleet in New York. Somebody there loved it so much that we ended up selling it at heavy profit there. I’ve seen it around Santo Domingo still, it’s been repainted but still driving fine The second one was a 2001 Navigator. Absolute beast of a car with the triton v8, interior nice as hell. My father got it off eBay for a steal around 2003, but he had to travel halfway across the country to drive it back. It’s been through 3 minor fender bender accidents but it’s still running fine. Although it’s about to be sold, just cause we don’t go back to DR as much as we used to, and the maintenance costs that result from it sitting are too much. The third and final one was a 2004 Aviator. This is the one I have the fondest memories of. My father bought it in 2006, also off eBay with the original intention of sending it off. But driving it across a few states he loved it so much he decided to just keep it in the states. I was 2 years old when he got it and it’s probably the earliest automotive memory I have when he rolled up to our Bronx apartment in it. We did everything in that truck, and it handled everything. He of course did the preventative cylinder fix so no mechanical issues (through the fuel pump did fail on a road trip once, stranding us). I was about 11 when he decided he wanted something Japanese (he had his eye on the Acura ZDX) and sold it to a family member who had just gotten married. But they neglected to take proper care of it and after getting impounded with expired tags. It ended up back in our possession before getting sold to a stranger who said he would restore it back to to oem condition. Never checked back with him but I’d like to
i liked my 04 navigator but preffered my 5.0 '00 explorer. same truck lesser package. favorite truck was a 99 expedition, currently running a '99 f250 super 4x4, missing the expy. all alpine white except the navigator.
My first car earned its name as well. It was an 80’s maroon four door Volvo 240DL. The thing was a tank, completely unstoppable. They’re slow but safe, and that probably the ideal car for an 18 year old city kid. My friends and I practically lived in the thing. One fine day we were just cruising around, and my stoned friend in the backseat suddenly said, “ This thing is awesome. It’s like a flying couch!” 💥💥💥BOOM!💥💥💥 The FLYING COUCH was born! A much better name than the one given to my white Dodge Ram van, the Chester Molester van.
So, I live near Bratenahl and I was literally looking for a gently used Aviator around the time you bought it! lol! I ended up getting a 2004 Lincoln Aviator with 75k miles. I still have it and it has 185k now. I went ahead and replaced the engine and transmission after both went out around 90k. Its hard to maintain because the parts are non-existent now, but I've taken it from Ohio to South Carolina several times, towed with it, hauled my family in it, camped in it, and I've never gotten stuck in snow. If Ford would've fixed some of the flaws and did a refresh similar to how they did Explorer and Mountaineer, this would've been the perfect vehicle.
Petition to never change the music on the channel! I just read another comment and they are absolutely right I love that music and I would be devastated if it changed
I did a timing job on one of those. The plastic on the guide rails fell to pieces. Had to pull the oil pan as well to make sure nothing clogged the oil pickup tube. If I was to do the head job I'd just pull the engine as it's faster than lifting the body.
My experience with Aviators extended as far as being a donor for a few engines for my mazda mini drift truck and XK8 Jaguar I got as a roller in a trade. Was one of the easiest/cheapest ways at a salvage yard to get a Ford 32v DOHC 4.6l V8. Everything else short a Cobra or some other special trim was a 24v or SOHC version if I remember right.
I understand selling a car means it’s not my problem. But my Fiero is important to me, it’s a part of me, it’s like an old friend… if I ever sell it it’s gonna go to someone that’s gonna take care of it…
Some people (like my wife and I) don't drive a lot and have a garage filled with really clean low mileage 15yr old cars on battery tenders. We only buy new, we maintain them well and they last forever. For instance, my '05 GTO has 32k miles on it and not a mark on it.
Wow This made me feel awesome since I just bought an 03 aviator awd back in March as my first car It has never had the overheating issue, but a sparkplug did shoot out once (now rethreaded) and occasionally it says to check transmission, haven't figured the issue on that. Other than that I LOOOVE THIS CAR It's become my work truck and I take it to my boss's horse ranch on the countryside! God bless the elderly couple that sold it to me in North Carolina (: !!!!
Driving my Avaitor now has 198000 on it. Original transmission and coils, but new valve cover gaskets and oil filter adaptor gaskets. Other then that been good.
My dad bought an 07 navigator in 08 for cheap when Gas prices were $4.50 a gallon. and that truck made me want to get a Lincoln aviator as my first car but it didn’t happen.
My wife had a mountaineer 2v v8 a d it was a great SUV for us.. it went 287k miles before the trans and driveline was shot.. we loved that suv.. now she has a jeep grand cherokee 2017 and it has been just as good over 135k mi so far.. she drives 96 mi a day to and from work.
I did a double take on the video title. My dad’s name is Doug and he blew up the transmission on his Aviator back in 2011. It was a beautiful Kitty Hawk edition when he got it in 2003- never saw a single other one since.
Years ago I bought a 75 Harley Davidson police bike it never seen Police service but a woman bought it brand new in 75 I got all the paperwork where she had bought a t-shirt for $3. Now when do you get anything for $3 at a Harley dealer anymore. But I had to meet her at the dealer where she had it. Because it is set for some time and they went through it and made sure it was road safe. And she said she wanted to talk to me before she would sell it she did not want this cut up into a chopper. At that time the chopper craze was starting up again this may have been in the late 90s. And I assured her I like classic motorcycles and this was going to stay just the same way. She worked the switchboard at a phone company of course this place is it quite a few years ago. The old man that sold this auto reminded me of her.
I had to have a top end rebuild on mine due to the heads. Also, you don't have to lift the body off to do the heads, you just have to pull the engine out.
I didn't know about the cyl 1 issue on the 4.6 in the SUVs, I thought they were bullet proof. I had a 4th gen Explorer with the 4.0 and didn't my homework either, only to have the death rattle and finally the rear timing chain break and kill the engine. She was a miracle though and made it to *250,000 miles.* Unheard of for a 4.0l that had original chain guides. Thought for sure the trans would die first. It was a sad day having her hauled off to the scrapyard.
@@9HighFlyer9 oh man that's rough. Did the 4th gen have the same trans? Never had issues with trans or transfer case, which was surprising since *every* other ford I've owned had trans problems.

It was my wife's until recently when my daughter took it to collage. I wish they had kept making it, I would buy a newer one (I know they are making them again but I am not about to drop 60K+).
Our 04 Aviator is rusting away, too. But man, that thing has mojo. It just drives so sweet! It has power when called upon but sucks on gas. I prefer driving that over my newer Navigator.
I've got a 2011 Expedition.... My family loves the truck.... I too, didn't do my homework, and where Ford fixed the spark plug issue, and cam phasers drying out, they built in a new problem.... I'm getting ready to do my second lower intake, after 60k beyond the first one..... But, eh, the family loves it so, time to get greasy....

I'm from NZ and when he said "midsized/small" SUV referring to the Lincoln Aviator. Here that would be XXXL.
Would a left hand drive Crown Vic be allowed over there?
@@roymurray6374 Well we drive on the left and like every country ever there are imported cars, so I don't see why not. It would have a lot of street credibility over here.
Nice! Wasn't sure, since I've heard that the Aussie neighbors want left hand drive cars swapped to right hand drive, and other ridiculous, constrictive rules. Thanks, was curious what the rules stipulated over there.
@@roymurray6374 No probs mate
I’ve seen it around Santo Domingo still, it’s been repainted but still driving fine
The second one was a 2001 Navigator.
Never checked back with him but I’d like to
I get so excited to watch vinwiki episodes 💯 also the channel is amazing to learn story telling for us creators 💯
i liked my 04 navigator but preffered my 5.0 '00 explorer. same truck lesser package. favorite truck was a 99 expedition, currently running a '99 f250 super 4x4, missing the expy. all alpine white except the navigator.
You can install a new Android radio in those and its better than a new car
My first car earned its name as well. It was an 80’s maroon four door Volvo 240DL. The thing was a tank, completely unstoppable. They’re slow but safe, and that probably the ideal car for an 18 year old city kid. My friends and I practically lived in the thing. One fine day we were just cruising around, and my stoned friend in the backseat suddenly said, “ This thing is awesome. It’s like a flying couch!”
💥💥💥BOOM!💥💥💥
The FLYING COUCH was born!
Doug tells the best stories, hands down.
I’m a huge cannon ballers fan. So glad to see one of my favorites wearing one of my favorites.
👆👆I will introduce you to something profitable💢👆👆
My experience with Aviators extended as far as being a donor for a few engines for my mazda mini drift truck and XK8 Jaguar I got as a roller in a trade. Was one of the easiest/cheapest ways at a salvage yard to get a Ford 32v DOHC 4.6l V8. Everything else short a Cobra or some other special trim was a 24v or SOHC version if I remember right.
I understand selling a car means it’s not my problem. But my Fiero is important to me, it’s a part of me, it’s like an old friend… if I ever sell it it’s gonna go to someone that’s gonna take care of it…
I have a 98 f150 with a 4.6 and a passenger side tic. Could that be my issue?
Some people (like my wife and I) don't drive a lot and have a garage filled with really clean low mileage 15yr old cars on battery tenders. We only buy new, we maintain them well and they last forever. For instance, my '05 GTO has 32k miles on it and not a mark on it.
Wow
This made me feel awesome since I just bought an 03 aviator awd back in March as my first car
It has never had the overheating issue, but a sparkplug did shoot out once (now rethreaded) and occasionally it says to check transmission, haven't figured the issue on that.
Other than that I LOOOVE THIS CAR
It's become my work truck and I take it to my boss's horse ranch on the countryside!
God bless the elderly couple that sold it to me in North Carolina (: !!!!
You gotta tell the dieselgate story now, asap!
Driving my Avaitor now has 198000 on it. Original transmission and coils, but new valve cover gaskets and oil filter adaptor gaskets. Other then that been good.
Exhaust leaks?
I worked with a guy who bought a beat up car from a battered woman's shelter in San Jose, CA. He named it Beat Up Betsey.
I have it’s big brother the 2004 Lincoln Navigator, she is 18 years old and still going strong
I feel like it’s been too long since I heard a story from doug
My dad bought an 07 navigator in 08 for cheap when Gas prices were $4.50 a gallon. and that truck made me want to get a Lincoln aviator as my first car but it didn’t happen.
Doug always has a great story!
I honestly forgot the older Aviator's existed 😂
What is the fix? Need to check if this is an issue on my vehicle. I tried to google it but came up empty.
I just bought a 2008 Ford Explorer, that has that 4.6l. Will I experience the same problem, I think it is a 3v?
That thing has curse like the timing chain them land rovers. All nice n clean looking until you look into the beans
Doug T. in the video - You know that there will be some interesting selling/buying story. Maybe there could be a "Scammer Story" from DT soon?
Doug is awesome! I enjoy his stories.
Seems like a perfect use for a Ford Focus or any Ford for that matter.
Learned to drive in one of these!, 2005 pearl white with cream interior full loaded with the tv
Great description of Bratenahl. It really is exactly like that!

Adopting Opo's credo made me smile.
Dang I love those aviators… I love the explorers those generations too and the mercury mountaineers
I have a Black 2003 Lincoln Aviator and I love it to death
I know how that feels, F250 6.7 D and #7 cylinder shot a rod through the block. Now I own 4 Toyotas as I am tired of buying engines.
It’s not a truck . Love you Doug
now watch those aviators go through the roof
Doug is back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😊😊
I had to have a top end rebuild on mine due to the heads. Also, you don't have to lift the body off to do the heads, you just have to pull the engine out.
Tried that in my driveway didn't go well
@@WarrenAAndrews I had my mechanic do it. I paid way less for the job than I should've.
I bought a 3rd gen with the 4.0 and 120,000mi. It had the timing done at 110,000. The trans went out at 140,000mi. Damn 5r55w
@@9HighFlyer9 oh man that's rough. Did the 4th gen have the same trans? Never had issues with trans or transfer case, which was surprising since *every* other ford I've owned had trans problems.
Love how he kept saying truck when its a suv lol
I had my 2004 Aviator for eight years. Longest I ever owned any vehicle. Loved that ride. The AC seats were great and it sat seven in a pinch.
Hauled two Sea-Doo PWCs for years.
My dad drove nothing but Lincoln's, its a shame they're made so terribly now. Both the Navigators he bought had so many electrical bugs and issues.
Hey Guys. Love the CH. Need some....guidance. Cause I'm at the GF 'a lot,' the town here in CT just sent me 3 years back-billing for vehicle (property) tax due to plate scanning. What license plate skewing-tech are you intimately familiar with to 'streamline' by future billing as zero in the future?
I wanna hear more on the Toureg tdi
went looking for a perfect car to drive to it's grave, and he found a guy doing the exact same thing.
Me: *Looks at colour coded, dust extracted, microfiber clean, meticulously organised recording studio*
Also Me: *Looks at interior of his Subaru Liberty that is already earmarked as a future superfund site*
Yeah, checks out Doug, nothing shady about the man at all.
Doug!!! What is that watch I must know as I am really into watchmaking and love the sleek elegant profile but couldn't identify it through the video, Cheers:)
Brilliant description of Bratenahl, Senor Stig!
I heard someone say once, “keeping miles low on your car for the next buyer is like not screwing your girl so she’s tight for the next dude”

Thats the first one of those motors I've heard of that DIDNT go about 300,000 miles. Tons of cop cars turned into taxi's prove that. The nut behind the wheel maybe?
I believe the engine in his particular SUV was a 4V, which seem to have odd issues, but as you stated, yes, the enimic 2V engines will go half a mill sometimes and keep begging for abuse.
This channel is the only reason I wake up early its an entertaining channel and I love the stories
Gr8 story !!! Deiselgate ??? Very cool sounding problem 🙂
this car was never sold where I live. it looks fresh as new today

Can’t wait for the tdi story!
all 32 valve fords need the head cooling mod. one cylinder head basically dead ends so it gets super hot.

Top ten _ 👍👍👍👍 Doug always has great stories!
Great story. I currently have an 04 Aviator and absolutely love it even though it is extremely rusty. I have owned it for about 4 years.
Sounds like Doug and Ed are polar opposites when it comes to their car buying philosophies.
Doug tells the best stories!

Any 5.4 3V can have phasor and rocker issues. THere are TSBs. I almost bought a 14, the guy was selling it because of those problems.
Doug I noticed you said Dieselgate like it was a bad thing lol
Man I was all about VW shenanigans and laughed my butt off when I eventually read what they had done.
IMO the DG cars are better :-)
Bad is an understatement. Anyone who thinks it wasn't is a douchebag of the highest order.
this white Lincoln just so so so beautiful
