Well, it looks like I went too easy on Andy around the 7 minute mark. I didn't want to just crap all over the guy since I only had a small amount of footage to go on, but it's clear now that one can not be hard enough on him. Reports now indicate that he is a literal pimp and general piece of human garbage.

Finally, a rational take on all this alpha hooplah. I'm a 30 year old man who has been working at a hospital for the past couple years, and I really saw myself undergo a change when I focused my energy on helping others. Not that I was ever doing this for anybody else, but it's crazy how much attention you get when people find out you're a dependable, hardworking person, who not only can take care of himself, but others as well. Now I have a drive that I've never had before, I'm fulfilling my dream of going back to school for medicine next year. To me, I've found my calling and it makes me happier than all of Tate's super cars ever could.

Just a quick reminder that helping others always prompts the human limbic system to dose some dopamine. Social interaction is a hallmark of humanity and what separated us from animals driven purely by instinct.
I experienced this when caring for my father-in-law after he suffered a stroke. I was astonished by how it made me feel as if I were back in US Army during the 90s. Helping others is quite literally it’s own reward. I’m guessing this what Greg refers to when he describes providing foster care for children, who desperately require positive role models. There are so many more foster children nowadays vs when I was growing up.
I’d challenge anyone to help someone else, even it’s only kind words and support. Just a few positive words can make all the difference in the world to some folks (and it costs nothing to be nice!)

It's definitely a fine line that is very hard to describe. I think the alpha male thing is like a hyper-masculinity that has missed the point. Should you provide for a family and be a leader? Yes. They go beyond that to say you are the absolute authority in your home, a king to be respected and feared. It's a funhouse mirror of being a man.

This is a very good take, in my opinion. My mama always taught me “Life is about balance. If you go too far one way or the other on anything, you tip the scale”, and it’s so true. Everyone’s conditioned to be so divided and to think that “well if this way of thinking is good, the opposite must be COMPLETELY BAD”. Then life becomes like a sports game where the other way of thinking is always the enemy, which simply isn’t so in my experience for a lot of common things. Having a balanced take and looking at everything from BOTH sides before forming an opinion is the key to not getting stuck in the societal norms that hurt your mental health and way of looking at life logically. I recently found your channel and your content has been a refreshing look at things I’ve casually thought about for years. I hope you continue to share these ideals with people ☀️ I know I’m really enjoying these videos.
Also, His Cheeseburger is a BOP and that’s gonna be stuck in my head for the rest of the day, so thanks for that.

    • @Dinoslay
      @Dinoslay Год назад +2

One can be humble but never submissive. Why? You inevitably coexist with morally ambivalent members of humanity who won’t care about your well-being at all despite of what you do. Humility is wisdom. Submissiveness is spinelessness. There is a difference. That is why you must start from taking care of your own health and sanity first and foremost, something that society doesn’t always offer you reliable help with due to the aforementioned moral ambivalence. You are merely expected to give yourself up for the benefit of strangers and familiars alike without always benefitting yourself. There is the ever present risk of you falling further through the cracks. Some succumb to that fate while others such as the examples in this video overcompensate through empty posturing. If as a man you can’t find an adaptive balance to a challenging life you can not effectively serve anybody. Like you said, it’s all about balance. That is what individual men must truly achieve as a goal to be healthy.
      Just my two cents.

I don't think it's really fair to suggest that wanting want big muscles, fast sports cars, or hot women as a bad thing in and of itself. If you have a passion for something or a desire for something, and you're able to pursue that dream, then that's part of what makes life worth living. The problem comes when either (A) you think that those successes make your life worth more than other's lives, or (B) when passion turns to obsession and you forsake your other duties in the community.
I love martial arts. I've been doing it half my life. I taught (mostly kids) for several years. I'm learning a new one now. The biggest three reasons I do it are so I can find friends with similar interests to me (martial arts), as my form of exercise, and because it's just so dang fun. The video presents pursuit of martial arts competition as some sort of alpha male thing, but I just want to have fun. Same reason I drive a sport car (not a supercar). I enjoy driving it, and it fits my needs. Not all of this is in service of others, but it doesn't really hurt others that I have them.

I think it's great that you've found a balance, though I think you're in the minority. The internet male gurus see those things as goals, not tools. I would disagree that simply having a passion makes life worth living, however. Pursuit of self-pleasure is not a strong meaning in life.
Martial arts is great for developing skills you can use in life. I put my own kids through Taekwondo for those benefits.

The general thing is that these days it's only villains like Bateman and Durden who are really allowed to be masculine. It's the same reason people like characters such as Walter White or John Wick. When was the last time you saw a male character in fiction that embodied manliness like Superman, or Han Solo, Indiana Jones or a Schwarzeneggar movie? It doesn't really exist anymore. Schwarzeneggars action heroes are considered 'toxic' these days for using violence, feminists call Han Solo a creep for 'pushing himself' on Leia during Empire Strikes back, and the less said about the mishandling of Superman the better. If heroes are supposed to embody virtue, and modern feminism is considered a virtue. Then by that standard none of these characters can be shown to be heroes.
But at the same there's still a huge market for for movies about men who act manly, get in fights, sleep with every women, get the money and the power. But none of them are allowed to be good and heroic anymore because that might signal that the 'masculine' behavior is a good thing.
If all you see in the media is that all masculine behavior is toxic and evil. Then men are going to start glamorizing toxic and evil people.

Actually, a wolf pack is led by a mated pair of wolves and everyone else are their pups and occasional strangers that are accepted into the fold. Some circles of men have taken this outdated idea and since ran with it.

@@myronbourne6937 True, but every couple of years, technology throws some more complexity in, and expands the dynamics of human function and interaction. Shit is changing and it's changing fast. People generally dont beat their wives into submission anymore. People aren't marrying 10 year olds anymore. Most people aren't foraging for nuts and berries and hunting constantly to stay alive anymore. Most people live longer and have more security/necessities than before.
So it's becoming less practical to dominate everyone around you, because "the group" isn't going starve if someone doesn't do what "The Alpha" says... The roles are still there, but the environment/situation is constantly evolving, so instead of teaching your son how to kill the neighboring tribe and keep everyone in line, now you teach your son how to get a job and function in this concrete jungle. You can't just beat people with a rock and toss them out the tree anymore, its becoming a little more complex than just "Alpha vs Beta"

    • @wingsoffreedom3589
      @wingsoffreedom3589 9 месяцев назад +1

Both misinterpret the wolf thing Alpha males do dominate while in captivity because they have to put up with other wolves they don't like. In the wild however they start families and even adopt other.wolves and guard their territory from other packs. But people take this as proof of no dominance hierarchy rather than an observation that is rather obvious about both species. Human's also form massive hierarchies in cities and then form more familial looser hierarchies when out in the country on their own land. In other words Hierarchy is circumstance based that doesn't disprove that wolves dominate other wolves when they have to it's just that they don't have to most of the time by living somewhere else. Secondly Alpha is also a term used in reference to chimps which humans are much more similar to and in chimp hierarchies are indeed more dominant based than even wolves however even there the alpha that lasts does so by staying popular and helping his underlings. Either way the concept of an Alpha male is valid you just can't turn it into a caricature and look at it in context.

In life, you only control two things- your actions and your thoughts. Or, to put it another way, you only control what you do and why you do it. This is an interesting look into what you get when your actions are right but your motivations are so completely corrupt. I think we see a lot of "Wrong thing for the right reason" examples but the converse is a cautionary tale as well.

Hey. Just wanted to say I discovered this channel recently and I ADORE this content (that VeggieTales reference was top notch)
Something funny about these alpha males is that they refer to the male alpha wolf a lot like he’s a loner when in reality, the leading male wolf of a pack is (especially in the wild) a family man. He’s the father of the pack more often than not. He leads for the well being of the pack and is respected but is also very gentle and good for some bonding and play time.

  • @Dinoslay

It’s all about balance. That is what individual men must truly achieve as a goal to be healthy.
    Just my two cents.

However, you have to forgive young men for getting swept up in the emptiness of the quest for money and/or the perfect six pack. Learning about the importance of service and how real men behave is something you do mostly through experience, sometimes quite bitter experience- although having a great dad gives you a real head start here. I feel really sad for all those young guys out there who dont have decent fathers to set an example for them.
Christian values seem at odds with today's TikTok world, and sadly a lot of religious leaders have let us down. However, Jesus' central message: "Be a decent human being, not an asshole" still rings true.

OH LORD YES! Quite honestly, I cannot stand how ego-centric these "alpha males" teachings come out as. Their teachings are not the true end goal for a man as these are truly just tools. The money and wealth is not simply for you: they are for your family and, if you own a business, your employees as you give them their pay for hard work. That big house is not for you to simply echo into: it's for your family to thrive and grow.
Personally, I've found working out to not be enough, but it IS a key factor to happiness; not the only one. Learning more about history, philosophy (personally, I prefer Nietzsche, Christ, Aurelius and Musashi thus far), and even how to cook, get back into drawing and art, and better understanding writing.
Basically it doesn't matter what method you seek to better yourself: understand that your goal is to progress farther than you did yeaterday; even if it's only an inch.

What fuels all this worship of Alphas in Anglospheric societies is their hyper-willpower/free will approach to life even in their “Christian worldview”. E.g. “I am resilient largely because of my willpower/free will/choice”. “I obey Jesus largely by my willpower/free will/choice (rather than God’s grace MAKES ME want to obey Him)”. “Jesus can only transform my heart to the extent of which I exercise my willpower to ‘allow’ Him”. While the existence of the moral freewill remains highly controversial even amongst Christians, a hyper-emphasis on it will eventually make you chase after “alpha-hood” as a way to deceive yourself into believing that you are “resilient enough” to whip out the willpower/free will whether it is to be a “tougher” person or to be a “better follower of Jesus”. On rainy days when life hits hard enough that willpower is virtually nil, hyper freewillers will be the first to feel unworthy of God’s perfect love that casts out fear thus constantly trapped to prove oneself to be seen as a “resilient Alpha” as well as sucking up to “resilient Alphas” out of fear that “my willpower/free will/choice” is not resilient enough.

There is a scene in Band of Brothers Episode 8 where all the reactors have the same reaction and at the end all the reactors know who is the alpha of the group. I'll risk being called a sexist by saying you could almost see the female reactors internal dialogue "I want to have this mans babies" and the male reactors sitting next to them aren't even jealous. Gentlemen I'm with you on most things that I have been listening to on this channel since I discovered it about 3 hours ago (listening while working so thank you for helping me get through all this work by the way🙏), but honestly having lived the "be a good man thing", "serve your family & broader community", & all that, honestly this is where I recoil because I don't agree. I'm 34 now, spent most of my life thinking that this worldview of a man, his place & role in society is the truth. I actually enjoyed that selfless life where you made the decision to not focus on yourself especially when it mattered. So far as I can tell in my own experience (other ppl might have had a different experience), your worth to your family & society ends up mostly being measured by your bank balance. All the being a good man, supportive & loving partner, caring, being a dedicated person in your family & a servant in your community (job, neighborhood, church) eventually get weighted against how nice your car is, how much you earn & what nice things you can do for the people around you, not how loving, caring, supportive you are. That is my experience & as such, I can totally get why these guys have just gone to the extreme because at least when you are at their level you don't burn yourself living up to an ideal. You don't even have to try because your value, though measured in a very superficial way is at least unquestioned as opposed to the man who tries & keeps failing especially by modern society's standards where men have boxes to tick, but the ladies......,you know; she's perfect exactly as she is.
Personally, I have no interest in having multiple women wake up in bed as I lift weights & kick things on my luxury boat 😅. Sorry but that is just weird to me coz casual sex with ppl I don't know every other night never seems like a good idea whether ur him or her ,& seems like waaaaaay too much work😓.
That said, the good man thing, sorry I don't agree.

This is also kinda why when people complain about "toxic masculinity" I usually get kinda annoyed. Because a lot of actions and behaviors labeled as toxic masculinity aren't masculine in the slightest.
Masculine behavior and actions are things done in service of others whether that be protective or providing, this a toxic act of masculinity would be something like being overly protective of someone, forcing materials on them when they don't want it, things like that.
Things like taking advantage of people, sexual or otherwise, assaulting people, and so on aren't masculine at all, they're the opposite of masculine, they're weak little bitch behaviors that small people use to feel big.
Tho, in saying that, I do have to concede that "man-splaining" technically counts as toxic masculinity, as it's a man trying to impart wisdom without being asked, giving resources without a request, if that makes any sense.

I completely agree. When that term started, it was "masculine activities that have been perverted to the point of being toxic" and now it's used as "masculine = toxic".

Yeaaah, tho I suppose you could say that about a lot of phrases now, might have started off meaning one thing, and that thing might have been something that we needed to address, but they've been taken by a political group or side and are used to mean something completely different. What's really weird is when both sides do it and nothing makes sense anymore.
