What I'm about to say is not a fake flex but ties into this video. I have had people in the past how I have developed my thinking ability and intelligence. I am no prodigy at all but I'm apparently enough that other kids used to tell me that. As someone who is now an adult I look back and am thankful for how living with my grandparents stripped me of internet access for the first ten or so years of my development. The internet plays into constantly destroying out ability to invest into ideas and focus on our thoughts instead of reactions to things that validate the ones we have. I feel like that gave me a lil leg up that I'm sad to say many future children will never experience. I'm not saying "phone bad" but more "phone is a device used at the interest of marketing and political parties to take advantage of our most primal reactive though to the point where many people don't even know how to think unless prompted to respond". Love this channel and thanks for being a breath of fresh air.
Your grandparents had it so right. The internet really is a tribal, reactionary based place. If more people saw the internet as a tool to be used for productivity and personal growth and less of a warzone, we'd be so much better off.
I feel so blessed to have grown up before the internet was invented. Imagine watching a few shows on TV and then spending long summer days wandering the woods, rainy days reading, drawing, making stuff. Cold, snowy days building snow forts and having snowball fights or playing games inside. We did not have a way to snap a selfie and stop so we could see if people thought we were doing 'the latest coolest thing'.
TikTok is the same. I have a number of people in my life who seem to get all their information from it and talk about it so much. I actually cringe when they say, "I heard on TikTok... Someone on TikTok said... I learned from TikTok...". The saddest thing is that every one of those people think that they're thinking for themselves. They're not; they're just regurgitating someone else's regurgitated regurgitation. Social media is a cancer. It's a vomit-fest.
"regurgitating someone else's regergitated regurgitation" is the perfect summation of social media talking points. If I can say that out loud without tripping on my tongue, that's probably going in a video, lol
I have a Twitter account but barely use it, and if I ever do use it, it's just to like a piece of fan art someone made. I discovered your content today, and... you certainly have the right idea about our world today. People have essentially been brainwashed by places like Twitter, Tumblr, Tiktok, and all that stuff, and it makes them think that "they are supreme, everyone agrees with their ideas" because that's all they see. They're just insignificant specs in this massive world of ours. As someone who is looking to become a Game Designer and Story Writer... your advice rings true for me, and I really, REALLY, wish other people could have views like yours. I'm not saying we should all have a hivemind... in fact, with social media we kind of already do... but if we all looked at the many different opinions of others, both ones that agree and disagree with each other, and form our own opinions from those, WHILE doing our own research on the subject... the world would be a better place. Thanks for your videos. Your content is inspiring and motivating.
Maybe I'm using Twitter wrong... or maybe I'm the only one using it right and everyone else is wrong... but anytime someone goes on one of these "leave Twitter for your mental health" screeds, I'm baffled by the supporting evidence. I'm just on there for art, man. I interact with people as little as possible beyond liking and retweeting art or sharing some light comments with people. It takes up maybe an hour of my day, if I'm particularly bored... otherwise I'm on and off again. It probably helps that most of the accounts I follow don't tweet in English, and I avoid the curated timeline and the #explore pages like the plagues they are. 🤷♂
Wow, I was thinking Twitter is the marketplace of ideas, but you’re totally right. It’s made me hateful and angry almost every day I’m on there. I’m gonna go read a good book.
True, I've left Twitter a few months ago without much thought. Then I started reading stocism and Lao Zi. My brain cells regenerated and I am at peace.
I think to be able to successfully be able to consume anything on the internet, you have to hone your discernment skills and know what your are spending your time on. It’s a tool, not a means to tell you who you are. Most of the time I just see it as a place where people push me to buy something, and if I am being pushed to buy something, I am, by proxy, being told I am not good enough the way I am. It’s the fastest way to get someone to buy something, by preying on insecurities. This doesn’t just apply to products, but ideas also. RUclips is my main vice these days, but I try to find out what I am watching. I am new to this channel, and I don’t always agree with you, but I do find your thoughts put together cohesively. I do, however, agree with you about Twitter.
It's good to disagree. The reason I don't post on Twitter or tiktok is that it doesn't allow time for an argument to be made. If I have the time and space to lay out a cohesive argument, then it allows you to pick it apart and decide what you do and don't agree with and why. When people refute my arguments in the comments, it gives me good points to sharpen my ideas in the next video, and we're all winners.
You know, I have Twitter just for the sake of having my name there, in case my creative career becomes more public and I needed my name to be verified to talk with potential fans. But... you're right. I can have my account holding that name without needing to be on the app. I'm gonna delete it right now.
I’ve tried to get into Twitter multiple times and it just didn’t interest me. I would spend 30 minutes trying to figure out how to say what I meant within the character limit and often couldn’t. None of the things other posted interested me either. It’s like scrolling through ads for other people’s drama.
Im only on IG and just opened that account 2 yrs ago. Its private and i mostly post pics of my plant babies, a few places Ive been (horror festivals, Chinese lights exhibit at the zoo, etc) and boring stuff. Even some of my closest friends dont know i have it. Only a select few do and ive sworn them to secrecy lol. But of people catch wind of it i will tell them no they cannot follow me. It blows my mind that people, esp those at my job, feel they have the right to know what i u do when ur not at work. A lot of these people i dont even interact with unless we're near each other (im a nurse). I get told ALL THE TIME that i need to be on FB and ive heard the non-stop convos about Twitter and Tiktok. No thanks.
You're right, and it's weird that we have become accustomed to seeing inside each other's lives. I have a coworker who, to our knowledge, has no online presence. I thought he was weird at first, but now I see the wisdom
While I’m keeping my account up, I’m not using that platform as much as I used to, and I began feeling better really soon after! But after allowing myself to get sucked back onto that platform today from the “X” rebrand (which is such a stupid reason to get angry, but then again, people on that platform tend to be angry about everything.) and the supposed AI implementation or whatever, I fell back down the anxiety hole! And as for the AI, while I’m concerned about that, I’m not letting it scare me like I did earlier! And also, AI doesn’t just mean “regurgitate all of your data and posts and stuff to be used unethically.” AI has been used in websites forever, and it’s always a point of contention. Generative AI is really what I and a lot of people are concerned about, but unlike everyone else, I’m just gonna keep my account up until either I don’t need it, or until the platform goes under or something. But I’m also gonna keep not using it as much because even if I hop on to try and find clear answers to what the whole “X” thing is about, and all the other stuff, it becomes like trying to search through a crowded street full of angry voices and questionable “answers” even from the sources of the confusion! And as a result, I got anxious and I’m overly stressed out now! I think the next time I ever hop back on (which won’t be for a few long weeks) I’m not gonna let anything get me down like it did this time! For the rest of the day, I’m just gonna relax and calm down and watch happy memes!💖💖💖
