      Well maybe getting a budgie isn’t good for you I mean I’ve had a canarie but I’ve never seen why to hold little birds like canaries and budgies just get a normal parrot and if you don’t want to spend too much money get a Lorikeet or cockatiel I got a lutino Lorikeet for 1000+$

      I have two buddies and one hates coming out of the cage but can shake your hand and wave like a boss wail the other is my best bud and has known recall for a long time dose well with harnesses and just loves to chill budgies are good birds and take awhile to warm up to people (both buddies hate and are scared of my family though XD)

    You make it look so easy! I have a female cockatiel who was clipped and has grown out her wings, She flies into walls, windows, ceiling fans (off), outside! (happened twice already!) etc. I am also worried that she might fly up to the high ledge in my room that is very high up and very dusty. She would probably die from how much dust there is. It is hard to clean way way up there. Also, your bird Duckie has very bright cheek patches for a female. Mine are pale peach color.

    I have started working on this, and my cockatiel is already hoping/flying to my hand! Thank you!

    I had a cockatiel named Kiri. She was such a sweet bird and we hadn’t even had her for a year and she got out. We found her the next day in a tree in someone’s backyard. There wasn’t much we could do because of this and we tried getting her down but she got scared and flew off again. That was the last time I saw her. I got a Quaker Parrot last Friday and as soon as he gets used to us I’m gonna teach him to fly and recall. I’m not making that mistake again. I still miss her so much and thank you for the video.

    I have had 3 cockaiels. MY first, Pepper, just like she said can happen, got caught in a breeze while I was walking down the hallway near the front door. My brother opened the door, Pepper Loves my brother, and went to try to get to his head, and the wind took him away. Pepper looked back at me and scwacked!!! He was confused, he yelled, MOM! That was one of the worst days of my life! Pepper ended up in the neighbors tree. However I didn't know that he was so close. My whole family went outside telling for Pepper, Pepper, Pepper!!!! No peep. I stayed up sobbing all night. Praying!! This bird was my BABY. MY BABY!! It was dusk you see, and he is used to sleeping at sun down. I covered his cage, and he said " night night. " But that night, No answer. Omg. Horrible, just horrible. Sun up, next morning, I went out on my balcony, prayed, and whistled half of our little morning song. I HEARD HIM WHISTLE BACK!! I STARTED SOBBING, CRYING I WANTED TO FIND WHERE HE WAS BUT I COULDN'T WHISTLE CAUSE I WAS CRYING SO HARD! I WOKE MY KIDS They helped find him. He was only across the st the neighbors. In the tree out front. He could not fly down to me, or was scared. THERE WAS A HAWK THERE PLANNING HIS BREAKFAST MEAL OF MY BABY!!! HORRIBLE DAY!! I was making such a fuss, the neighbor woke up, and brought us a ladder so I could climb the tree, and get him down. LONG STORY , SHORT... This young lady is RIGHT!! OUR BIRDS NEED TO KNOW HOW TO FLY DOWN TO US ON COMMAND !! This young girl , she's one, to watch if you own a bird.
    I am 55. I have had 3 Cockatiel and 1 Budgie. She is teaching me things I did not know. Thank you!
    MAY GOD BLESS HER FOR ADOPTING FEATHERED BABIES!,

      @@matthewkilpatrick5533 Every word Matthew, every word. So grateful to have been able to find him! It's so very important that our birds know how to fly to down to us. After that, I started taking him to the basketball court at my church. He loved it! He flew 20 laps most days. At first, he would just land on my arm, or my husband's outstretched arm across the court. Back and fourth, back and fourth. Then he started circling several times before landing on us. Then, as his wings grew stronger, he could fly longer and longer. Then he started landing up on the hoop or the backstop. That's when I was able to start teaching him to come down. It took awhile, but started with millet, but still no instant fly down, so I popped a bowl of popcorn, that's his favorite thing to do, is sit in a bowl of popcorn. He saw his bowl, and flew down immediately. From then on, no problem getting him down from the basket ball lights, rigging, or hoop. He was the BEST BIRD IN THE WORLD! ❤

    Edit: My dad bought a new one named Skye and they are so sweet together
    Thanks for your vids that helped me throughout the month
    Edit: So an Update.....Sadly Blueberry was so smart that he can open the cage door by himself.....We locked the door with a metal strip....but he managed to untie the metal strip and flew all around the 3rd floor of our house.....along with skye......Luckily Skye was so scared to fly outside an open window.....we saw skye just standing in the top of the shelf sleeping.....We gave Skye to a Bird breeder so she wouldnt get sad....So she had many birds to accompany her.......We will miss our birds forever

    Ducky is such a perfect name for this little birdie!!! My family used to have a couple of cockateils, and we lost one forever when it flew outside. This kind of training would have saved that birdie. Living on my own, I haven’t had the resources to own birds or any sort of pet yet (I had a travel job and no basically no time at home I’d be able to spend with a pet) but hopefully one day I’ll have a feathery little friend, and if I do, they’ll be fully flighted and I’ll train them like you have!

    How long does the process generally take? I just bought an 8 week old cockatiel ( lovingly named him barnelby, funny I know) and my last bird was actually a blue fronted Amazon, but this little guy is so sweet, let’s me handle him and pet him with zero complaint and never once tried biting me. Truly blessed with his calm demeanor. I’m starting to think HE is actually a SHE with how quiet he’s been. But he’s still new to his surroundings so that could be why he’s quiet (only had him for two days, but he’s been a fun little addition to the family, and he flies and I encourage it. Anyway just curious to know how long it takes (generally) for a young cockatiel to grasp this

    Hey! Need some help - doing this with my ringneck. She's going so well so far - except she won't hop she only tries to grab my hand with her beak and pull herself over. She's too nervous to fly. She had her wings clipped over 6 weeks ago. How do I get her to hop over?

    • @ElleAndTheBirds
      @ElleAndTheBirds  4 года назад

      Be patient and she’ll get there, when her wings grow back she will gain confidence. Work on walking recall for now and make the gap bigger very slowly. Good luck 💜

    You didn’t really explain how to start saying, “ducky come” instead of, “step up” so how do you gradually start saying for them to come instead of step up?

    • @CarlaSilva-gw5gb
      @CarlaSilva-gw5gb 4 года назад +2

      I’m assuming it’s just over time, it is different than saying step up when your in front of them and Ducky come when they’re a tad farther than that. I don’t have a bird so don’t entirely trust me, but I have been doing research to get a pigeon as a pet.

    • @Vivian-rg2pg

    Thank you for sharing your bird info. I adopted or rescued 3 budgies and bought them a larger cage and of lots of toys for set up. I’ve been watching them and noticed one is the odd bird out from the other 2 and they seem to bully him when he wants to go to the same branch and peck at him. Should I separate him from the other 2 and focus training as he is responsive. The others r very bonded to each other. Just want to do what’s best for him. I renamed him blue boy. Your thoughts. Thanks.
