just like the cute chirping of the budgie. they get you that way. then you have a bunch of them and they are all squaking at even higher db. pissing off your neighbor :-p . not saying you shoudlnt' get one. but these noises are tame, when they get loud and chatty, its quite something
Those of you commenting about the whistle- a cockatiel's ears are not nearly as sensitive as a human's in terms of what will cause hearing damage. To put it in perspective, the average police whistle is 80dB at its loudest and the average cockatiel scream/whistle is also around 80dB. They can get louder than 80dB though. If this whistle would cause hearing loss then so would their own screams and whistles. The whistle has to be loud or if the birds fly far away they will not hear it. Birds take also volume of a cue into account when learning to do something on command. If you teach them to listen for a quiet whistle and then they get lost and you blow it full volume they will not recognize the full volume whistle as their cue to recall. For instance, I taught my bird to do "big eagle" in a whisper (because I was trying not to disturb someone at the time) and he will now only perform the trick if I whisper the cue (I am fading the whisper into a normal volume now to correct this issue). If he doesn't blow the whistle at full volume (and varying volumes) the birds may not associate the full volume whistle with the idea that they need to recall. Birds are very specific when it comes to what they understand to be their cue. Cockatiel ears are designed to withstand very high volumes and very high pitched sounds. If you've ever heard an alarm call or "flock reunion" call from a cockatiel you'd notice that it's much louder and much more piercing than most whistles (police whistles included). Professional animal trainers use police whistles (which I assume is what is being used here- sounds the same and seems to be the same volume) to train all sorts of animals, including birds like small parrots and dives/pigeons. They would not do that if the volume was going to cause hearing damage. Particularly trainers at zoos- zoos are extremely strict about what their animals can have in their environments and in their diets. If the whistle would even potentially cause hearing damage the zoo would have the trainers use something else. The trainers generally blow the whistle full volume to prevent the animal from getting confused by fluctuation in volume from trainer to trainer. Our goffin's cockatoo screams significantly louder than a dog, that whistle, or a cockatiel and our cockatiels aren't bothered in the least by our cockatoo screaming. They don't even flinch. I think if it were causing their ears damage they would at least be startled by the whistle or afraid of it.
Our cocktail was accidentally let outside by a petsitter while we were visiting family. She got startled and flew off and got disoriented because she had never been outside. Three days later she was found in a park eight miles from our house when she flew up to a family having a picnic and landed on someones shoulder. Now she is scared of the back door that she flew out of. I think she thinks that it's some kind of chaos portal lol. I wish she could have been trained to free fly, but there are a bunch of bigger birds that might eat her in our area (and a lot of cats). She did survive in the wild for three days though!
@@liselecika Yeah. It honestly felt like a miracle when she was found. It was like waking up from a nightmare. But she's really friendly and loves people, so it kind of makes sense that she would seek them out. Looks like a pet paradise right there. I've never been a big proponent of pet birds because most of them I've seen live pretty much a confined and very long existence but this guy is enjoying the birds & absolutely keeping them naturally stimulated. The fact that the bird is at times 100% free and always returns says everything. Cheers.
Thank you, though many house birds still live a rich life, being free to roam inside the house with other bird fellows and their humans :) Completly agree for the poor birds that live always closed in a cage, maybe even alone :(
(Sorry for my bad english) 2 months passed away the moment i bought my calopsite, his name is valor. I lost him on sunday 2/06/19 in the afternoon, i tried to go out and teach him to free fly because i trained him everyday inside the house and it's always come when i call him but when i go outside he saw a cat and he got scared and fly ouy and i was really sad because it's always by my side everyday. I decided to search for him in the morning of the next day and i have the luck to get him back because i trained him everyday to come back to me after a whistle or when i call his name. He was really scared and chased by other big birds in the forest and he screamed very loud at 5.00/6.00 AM to know where he is. He's very smart calopsite and really intelligent. I cried a lot when he come back to me. This kind of birds are really lovely you just need to gain their trust and attention.
Isaak Avra my cockatiel flew away but it’s mate called it back by screaming 24/7, we got him back a week later. It was amazing. Sadly they both died this year at 13 years old. 😢
My cockatiel baby flew out of her cage by mistake while I was changing the water dish. She was on a tree two yards away, she flew by the house in circles for hours. I remembered to played the recorded Dad's song from my phone, she heard it and she returned to the cage! 🙏
Birds of the same species are not all the same. They all have different personalities. I lost a bird once, forgot he was out of the cage and opened the door, off he went. I was devastated. I kind of freaked out when your bird left the yard into the neighbors tree on his first flight. That bird is exceptional. Your training was exceptional. This video is outstanding. I really enjoyed watching it.
My parakeet does that then he bites me and flies away i think that my budgie thinks that when he bites me its a game to see how hard he can bite before i get mad but when i get mad i just say no in my regular voice and then he stops
I lost my first cockatiel because she was too afraid to fly down from a very tall tree. She tried to come down but too scared. When the night came, she flew into the dark. Teaching the bird to fly from tall places is important.
Something like that happened to me so I had my bird outside *in her cage* and some other birds manage to open her cage and she flew around my neighborhood (I live in a very busy town) and we found her in a very tall tree in a neighbor's backyard she was hurt badly by the other birds and was scared shitless, she finally started crawling down but the birds attacked her and she flew away again this time a bit further on a rough tree, my mum had to crawl up the tree to get her (she cut her feet) eventually we started walking home with my hands around her protecting her from the other birds, when we got home I gave her a wash but she was very scared. Now we never put her outside unless we are there with her im very sorry about your bird and I was very lucky this happen during the day R.I.P your bird
I feel the need to point out that in some countries crows are the dominant species and kill off any new species of bird so for example Ireland and Poland, my grandmother had a budgie that flew out the window and was immediately attacked by crows. So before you start trying to free fly your birds please check
You can use a modified nerf gun, just remove the air resistor inside and shoot the crows. I guarantee you, the crows will shit their pants even if you miss. In fact it gets even easier as time goes on, soon enough the crows will start to associate you and your bird with fear and avoid you. Just make sure to conceal the blaster.
Yes,I have to lock mine in another room when my bird's out.I'm sure the dog would have him given half a chance,it's in their nature, and don't even think about the average cat.
omg! I thought you would loose the bird either by him flying away, or the dogs eating him. I'm amazed at how cool you remained throughout the whole time.
Thank you so much for giving your bird this freedom and sharing the process with us. I also practiced free flight with my cockatiel. We unfortunately didn't get too far because he died of psittacosis when he was only 10 months old. But I think all parrot owners should attempt to learn this if they live somewhere where it is fairly safe. My philosophy behind it is that if something happens to the bird, it is still better to have lived a life where he was able to experience free flight, than a long life without this experience. I find it unfortunate that humans rob birds of one of the most beautiful and majestic spectacles of nature - watching a living being spread its wings and flying freely.
I'm excited about your video! It's amazing, I really appreciated your patience and how you didin't give up on that little baby! I have two cockatiels and they stay always free at home, I know it isn't the same thing at all, but I try to give them some freedom as I can't let them simply go away (they would die as they have always been raised by humans). Actually, one of them run away twice and he came back only five hours later as I was looking for him everywhere and calling him. I knew he trusted me when both times he flew right towards me even if he was scaried about high. Yes, this is my little story. Thanks for sharing with us your beautiful content!
Wow that is really cool. That's awesome that you train them to free flight outside! The only concern I have is that you are letting your dog lick your little feather friend and I learned that human saliva as well as dog salivas are deadly to birds and you shouldn't allow him to do that. I currently just got a GCC a month ago because I miss my birds so much, I had to rehome 2 birds two years ago when I moved across states and took a leisure road trip and couldn't take my birds with me. When I had them, my dog could go near the bird but was not allowed to lick them. Those birds were free flighted around the entire house only. Not outside. It was cute to see the Birds feed the dog of veggies they didn't want, dropping it from the playgym. Thanks for sharing!
Forget all the bad comments . it is very nice to see that the birds trust you completly and that they came back when you whistle . also i can see that you are a great animal lover.
This is by far the best bird video I've ever seen. You are calm, patient and loving toward these animals. Thank you for the time and effort put into this video, I love it. Birds are my favorite animal 😊💕 You have a new subscriber!
You appear to be a great animal trainer and a good teacher. I hope your channel continues to grow so that you can share your talent with vaster audiences!
Man this project is really beatiful because you give the Bird the freedom to stay outside and not 24/7 in a small apartment or something like that. Great!
@@taxult yes, it took about three weeks, before letting him out , i would say go potty, in a nice voice and when your bird goes, then let him out and give a treat, the only thing is you have to wait at first til they go, can probably teach in less time, i also set him on a waste basket and ask him to go, once they understand what you want they catch on quick! Lol♥️
Great video. I also trained two pigeons to free fly outside. I remember that moment my pigeon (peppermint) took his first flight outside and landed on the roof. For thirty minutes he just sat there even even when I was calling him back. However he came and flew back to me and landed on my lap on his spare time. Amazing feeling!!
I once raised a mocking bird for 2 years and let him free 1 day, and outta nowhere a hawk just came and scooped him up while he was flying away!😔 I miss you mockey!
@@xtan__000 it was back in 2008, even took it to north Carolina and back on a road trip, it had fallen from its nest and ants were all over it when I first seen mockey
I absolutely LOVED watching your training sessions with Bubu! Thank you very much for sharing it! it is very inspiring. We have had a cockatiel called Billy since he was 8 weeks old. He is now almost 22. He is free in the house but insists on the security of his cage to sleep in at night. He is getting very slow now, avoids flying but still walks to us and when we stretch our arms out, he will walk across from one of us to the other. he does not like flying down from the top of his cage, so we wait till he is ready and tells us that he wants to come down. He is forever teaching us new tricks, like dragging his plate to us, then going back behind the sofa while we throw it near him, and then he brings it back again. I think he was a retriever in his past life. Billy loves cuddles and his head scratched/massaged. We have lost birds a few birds in the past when people have left windows open in the house and it is heartbreaking to see them circling higher and higher in the air and apparently unable to come down.... Billy is very cautious and is slow to go near anything that he does not recognize, including open windows. We think we trained him but actually, it is more like he trained us to figure out what he means us to do. It is great fun though¬
Some of my birds never came back and each time that happens I cry for like a month and just be happy I raised them to be happy and free. Now I’m currently watching for my sixth one to hatch and hopefully she or he doesn’t leave me, not like the others
Note to anyone who wants to free fly small birds...avoid areas with lots of trees. Cooper's Hawks are bird-killing specialists, and they usually ambush their prey from trees. Large, open spaces are much better for free-flight training.
Ya in my neighborhood there is at least one hawk and when he comes around you know the birds start trippin. They actually battle him though. It's like a bird war
this is Amazing, i had 40 different species of birds and animals with me including Cockatiel, but never done what uve done, absolutely amazing. God bless , love and Blessings from London
I have two baby cockatiels a lutino and a pearl cockatiel and also thanks for the information now I know what to do if I ever decided to free flight them.
This a actually isn't a good way to teach them to free flight. He is really just teaching the bird to fly away from him for hours and when he comes back he gets treats. Free flight is letting your bird go on a few simple laps and come back. The birds landing in trees and on the ground which isn't good. Predators can get it easily.
I lost a cockatiel 9 months ago to a seagull. Me and spike had been free flying for 11 years, with no predators around. Perhaps the seagull had just moved to where we lived i’m not sure, it was the first time i’d ever seen one around there. I no longer let my smaller birds free fly anymore, but my two macaws and african grey are very happy to fly around.
This was so interesting. I love what you do with these birdies. I feel like this is how bird ownership should be. So sad to have a bird in a cage all day with wings clipped off 💔
Karla R. I live in Spain some of the time and the amount of birds kept in tiny cages is shocking to me. I saw a green parrot, don't know the species, in a tiny cage, unable to stretch its wings let alone anything else. His breast is devoid of any feathers. It breaks my heart to see any bird who plucks it's feathers.
I actually think it's good to trim your bird's wings a little bit if you have a high ceiling or lots of windows and are afraid of them getting hurt or confused. My cockatiel is nearly out 24/7 unless I'm gone or asleep and can't watch over her.
Ashima Permanand Thank you for explaining! I have a 2 year old cockatiel that doesn't understand how to steer yet for flying. So he will be able to get out of his cage and walk yet we want him to be safe so we clip his wings.
haha gave me childhood flashback... my parents raised a lot of cockatiel chicks, and the sound of them begging for food is burnt into my brain. It's never going to come out anymore.
Wow I tried this as a kid, unfortunately my bird didn't come back, I cried for weeks and hate myself for that. I just wanted to feel him more free 😭. Nice that you could do it, so great to see this. So cute. But Id never try something like that again.
I think the whistle at young age is the most important bit. Your bird probably didn't flee but rather lost his coordination so he forgot where he came from
Amazing, as i had no idea this could be done!! I've always loved Cockatiels! I fed them Harrisons feed! It comes in pellet form so there's no mess as there are actually 100+ varieties of ground up nuts that tastes good too!!

Well said.
Your birds are so Lucky. Thank you for the video 👍🏻
omg the fact you flight trained you cockateil makes me so happy
I'm excited about your video! It's amazing, I really appreciated your patience and how you didin't give up on that little baby! I have two cockatiels and they stay always free at home, I know it isn't the same thing at all, but I try to give them some freedom as I can't let them simply go away (they would die as they have always been raised by humans). Actually, one of them run away twice and he came back only five hours later as I was looking for him everywhere and calling him. I knew he trusted me when both times he flew right towards me even if he was scaried about high. Yes, this is my little story. Thanks for sharing with us your beautiful content!
So patient and calm! And he grew up into such a pretty boy! Well done!
At the beginning when the lil baby was holding his wings out I thought you were going to throw him omg 😂
SAME!!!!!
That was a great video. Wonderful to see how you trained him from a baby. He's such a pretty colour too. Thank you for showing us.
Forget all the bad comments . it is very nice to see that the birds trust you completly and that they came back when you whistle . also i can see that you are a great animal lover.
Not sure whats more beautifull, the bird, the area or your patience.
Thank you :)
This is by far the best bird video I've ever seen. You are calm, patient and loving toward these animals. Thank you for the time and effort put into this video, I love it.
Birds are my favorite animal 😊💕 You have a new subscriber!
How cute! I wish I could've raised my cockatiel when he was a baby..
Jolien noneofyourbusiness same

So satisfying to watch. Really you put a lot of effort behind this. Thanks for putting this whole documentary.
when I had my cockatiel he was only 7months old and I remember how surprised I was on how smart they are, way to go lil buddy have fun free flighting!
Oh it's interesting that you got the baby used to the air like that! So smart
8:59 Some Enderman like teleportation skills there!
You appear to be a great animal trainer and a good teacher. I hope your channel continues to grow so that you can share your talent with vaster audiences!
Sonbru wow thanks a lot!
Man this project is really beatiful because you give the Bird the freedom to stay outside and not 24/7 in a small apartment or something like that. Great!
Very cute birds))
he probably owns a cockatoo as well and maybe that's why
Wtf why are all the comments so recent
Idk
Because RUclips shows two types one is most liked second is recent
Sad Ghost omg idk I just saw XD
Ok I'm late
My cockatiel is just a screaming ball of fluff who poops everywhere... I still love him
I potty trained my bird, you can too. It takes about 3 weeks and your bird will catch on.
@@carolhartley4448 is it possible to learn this power
@@taxult yes, it took about three weeks, before letting him out , i would say go potty, in a nice voice and when your bird goes, then let him out and give a treat, the only thing is you have to wait at first til they go, can probably teach in less time, i also set him on a waste basket and ask him to go, once they understand what you want they catch on quick! Lol♥️
Oh of course during the potty traing time i let him out, hhoe you didn't think i kept him in his cage for 3 weeks😂
During the potty training of curse let him out everyday, justt didn't want you to think i kept him in hi cage those 3 weeks♥️♥️
David Cienfuegos omg! I’m sad now

how long ago?
@@xtan__000 it was back in 2008, even took it to north Carolina and back on a road trip, it had fallen from its nest and ants were all over it when I first seen mockey
I love how it started dancing when you used the whistle
As much as I love the beginning, I do have to admit, that I think baby birds look like aliens that are looking to conquer our planet.
That makes it kind of adorable though, minus the conquering
Your tiel looks like a flippin eagle bro no wonder it flies so well. You got yourself one fit, healthy and happy bird.
Some of my birds never came back and each time that happens I cry for like a month and just be happy I raised them to be happy and free. Now I’m currently watching for my sixth one to hatch and hopefully she or he doesn’t leave me, not like the others

@@rubmybum6079 I agree
why was this on my recommended feed? And why am i watching this at 4am?
I don't even have a bird...
Great video though.
Perhaps its time for you to have one :)
Same but i have one :)
WoW WoW WoW ! Un believable ! Pure Love and Care and Affection. No words to express.....! You made him a life time companion !
This is the trailer for the movie *how to train your cockatiels*
Note to anyone who wants to free fly small birds...avoid areas with lots of trees. Cooper's Hawks are bird-killing specialists, and they usually ambush their prey from trees. Large, open spaces are much better for free-flight training.
yeah, nobody should be free-flight training a bird that isn't a hawk or something similar because they will either get killed or fly away.
HES SUCH A GOOD BOY
Amazing creatures! Love seeing the bond between you and him ❤
This was awesome, definitely a really well made and interesting video documentary to watch, amazing job on your parrots dude!
I'm never gonna let my cockatiels go outside because in my area eagles are everywhere
Well I hope not
Ya in my neighborhood there is at least one hawk and when he comes around you know the birds start trippin. They actually battle him though. It's like a bird war
Same i have a tree with a hawk nest just across the street from me
My same but here are crows

Same but for me it’s because my country is an oven-
It’s too hot for them and they can get killed
Beautiful💓
speak to bird oh hello speak to bird! I’m subscribed so that’s how I know you
this is Amazing, i had 40 different species of birds and animals with me including Cockatiel, but never done what uve done, absolutely amazing. God bless , love and Blessings from London
Thank you :)
when he spreads his little wings like god damn bitch he’s having such a fuckin good time
I love this comment
I have two baby cockatiels a lutino and a pearl cockatiel and also thanks for the information now I know what to do if I ever decided to free flight them.
I have to adult cockatiels but one bites me and one goes side to side
This a actually isn't a good way to teach them to free flight. He is really just teaching the bird to fly away from him for hours and when he comes back he gets treats. Free flight is letting your bird go on a few simple laps and come back. The birds landing in trees and on the ground which isn't good. Predators can get it easily.
Excellent work fella, that's one happy birb
15:10 i love how the giant dog is more scared when the bird tries to bite him than the bird is scared at all
I lost a cockatiel 9 months ago to a seagull.
:(
Which bird do you recommend that bonds with it's owner and can do free flight ? I am looking to get one

Ya a lot are recent lmfao

because people are lonely rn and birds are friendly pets
Your environment is so lively and happy. 🌿🙂 I'm so happy for you. Beautiful birds and life
This was so interesting.
Karla R. The aim of birds it to stop liberals and their propaganda trump told me I love trump
Stop the myth of contraception only god's will can prevent ut
I used to have a pigeon I keep outside I was only 10 it's hard to remember back 50 years what it was like I like your cockatiel is very smart
You have a nice content doe
haha gave me childhood flashback... my parents raised a lot of cockatiel chicks, and the sound of them begging for food is burnt into my brain. It's never going to come out anymore.
Lol same here. It's a horrendous sound with a lot of chicks.
i love that at the end you can tell the bird is happy with him sealf
Cockatiels are so cute!
15:17 my heart 😭❤
Regalia that’s harassment
Wow I tried this as a kid, unfortunately my bird didn't come back, I cried for weeks and hate myself for that. I just wanted to feel him more free 😭.
Nice that you could do it, so great to see this. So cute. But Id never try something like that again.
This is so sad. Alexa play DESPACITO
Sprzedam Opla oh shit😂😂😂
I think the whistle at young age is the most important bit. Your bird probably didn't flee but rather lost his coordination so he forgot where he came from
what a great father you're !! if your bird is doing so well... I m sure that your children love you as well ! you understand perfectly
You are the cockatiel whisperer! 😊
He's a good boy, god damn it.
Damn this dude really taught his bird how to fly
Amazing, as i had no idea this could be done!! I've always loved Cockatiels! I fed them Harrisons feed! It comes in pellet form so there's no mess as there are actually 100+ varieties of ground up nuts that tastes good too!!
