    We adopted a budgie a few years ago who was so neglected that he was overly protective over his reflection and even his shadow. He would neglect eating and drinking to spend time with his shadow (we don't have mirrors at our aviary), and when he had to be forcibly separated from his shadow to eat or take medication, he would become aggressive and bite people and other birds. It took years for him to recover and for us to teach him to interact with other birds and become a fully integrated part of our aviary.

      We all make mistakes. We are human. One of my budgies got out unexpectedly while my dogs were in the house. We had just had them a few days. I was able to get him on my finger but before I got him back in the cage he flew off to our downstairs bathroom into the toilet. Unfortunately my reaction was to just grab him and lift him out of the toilet and put him back in the cage. It put our taming back. I've just been able to get him to come to the millet after two weeks since then.

    Sisal rope, jute rope, hemp rope, seagrass rope, and anything else that is a natural fiber (except cotton of course) is safe for birds! Even paper cord is safe! All you need to worry about if you have natural fiber rope is if the rope is treated in any way (sometimes it’s treated with petroleum and other chemicals) or if there were any glues used in making it. And if the rope is colorful, you have to make sure it only uses food grade dyes.

    • @angsfeatheredfriends
      @angsfeatheredfriends 3 года назад +4

      Started out with a sorta smaller cage, not a nice huge flight cage, but not terribly small either. Those small cages can come in handy. I kept mine. I had to use it to quarantine 1 of my budgies. I have also used it for transporting. I am not comfortable with those tiny bird carriers at all. Not when a vet drive is over an hour away. You can also use them as a side cage to explore. Fill it with foraging toys, keep the door open. Let your birds explore it during the day (that is if you let your birds out to free roam).

    • @kamaluonalani11
      @kamaluonalani11 3 года назад +3

      I currently use my smaller cage as sort of a play cage for my bird. I leave it on the desk open at all times, and hide a treats with some toys, and I change the set up every few weeks. My bird enjoys climbing in and out and all over it, foraging for all the goodies while I work on the computer next to her. My bird's wings aren't clipped, so she flies off whenever she gets bored. Her actual cage is much bigger obviously, and thats where she sleeps. But the smaller cage made for a great play pen Instead of buying a whole new playset.

    That "NOPE" at 11:47 is just too precious... Thanks for that! And for the rest: it's RIGHT ON! The marketers are the predators and we are the prey... The problem is that what is being said now is the same as what what said when I first started out with birds over 15 years ago, and nothing has changed... The marketers seem to be winning the battle...

    I live in a senior apartment with limited space. Rowdy, my green cheek conure, has a cage downstairs in the living room, although he spends most of his time riding around on my shoulder. Huckleberry and Pickles, my two budgies, live very happily in a table top cage like the one you show. The cage is on top of the chest of drawers in my bedroom, where they can watch me (and where they and Rowdy can visit safely with them inside their cage) while I'm working on my computer. Since I'm a writer, that's where I spend most of my day. Huckleberry and Pickles prefer to stay in their cage most of the time, so they have company while I work. And they love chattering at anyone on the computer

    grit is actually for softbills who dont hull their seeds and the hulls aren't really digestable so they use hem to grind up the hulls, parrots hull their food and if you give grit, they can eat it and it can destroy their internal organ's walls

    • @FerDeLance06
      @FerDeLance06 3 года назад

      It surprised me when Elle mentioned that. I was always under the impression that you should always supply grit for your birds. It makes me wonder if pet shop staff would advise you on that. I guess some would, but there would invariably be some that wouldn't - just to get the sale.

    Sadly I have bought some of these things but thanks to you and many other bird you tubers and influencers have helped with these. Thankfully before I got my bird the pet store I got her from “Parrot Stars” helped me find the correct bird cage and I got mine through them. I used to have a happy hut but it made my bird very hormonal along with her mirror so I had to get rid of the both. At pets mart they told me the sanded perch would help her nails and as a younger kid I believed her. I got it and when I was putting it in the cage and cute my hand on it, if it cut me I knew it wasn’t that safe for her so I also didn’t use that. I’ll let you know when I post a cage tour and maybe you can give some feedback or watch my video! I had to learn over time but I’m so great full for people who inform others like you Elle! I started my channel partially for the same reason! To inform others. I’m gonna ask for your kit as a gift and maybe I’ll get it!!
