Is he in a tank w fish requiring colder water? I have heard they prefer colder temps? & I can’t quite tell what else is in ur tank aside from being tetras.
@Sackman28 Just Tetra Tropical fish crisps.... and occasional frozen blood worms. That said, I don't think the color is from the food. Might be a breeding thing.
Beautiful fish! You should make a distinction in your title, Texas cichlid (Herichthys cyanoguttatus) is a different fish. This is Herichthys carpintis which is commonly known as the pearlscale cichlid or Green Texas cichlid
feed it worms and he will beef up, makes sure you wash them first and wait a few days for them to empty there stomachs then wash again and feed to texas , my texas love em and have grown big quick
@KingNeptune151 Real cheap. Might have been $2.... but she was much much smaller then. She was one of two females at the store, and the other female was really beating her up., so she looked pretty ragged. I'm a sucker for this sort of thing.
Hello I need help I wanted to keep a pair of cichlids long term in my 75 gallon tank I either want a Texas pair a green texas pair a flowerhorn pair or a green terror pair what would work best please help or mayb just 1 fish if that's better
You gotta be *real* careful with large aggressive cichlids in a 75g tank. My Texas is alone as it doesn't play nice with other fish of similar size. You can try, but have a "Plan B" ready to go. Odds of getting a pair are tough. This is why I stick with peaceful SA cichlids in the 125G tank. My Texas will mouth my hands if I try to rearrange the tank! ;)
He is awesome! My favorite Cichlid. I hope he's still going strong.
Beautiful color, fin and shape. Well feed fish indeed.
My Texas is 2" currently, can't wait for it to grow, absolutely a monster
Great tank.
Just got one today 3in. Hope he going to behave.
@haterphobic95 Smaller guys are Colombian (AKA Red/Blue) Tetra's.... one of them got lunched a week ago. Tank is 75g 48"x18"x21".

Beautiful fish, does he stay civil with the tetras? My texas is super aggressive w/ cichlids so I was going to try some large schooling types w/ him.
nice cichlid.
That is one very nice male texas you have there looks like he is in realy good condition . Have u had him since he was a juvenile ?
Yup! Getting thrashed by a tank mate at the local shop, so I rescued him!
Is that a normal Texas? Looks like a blue or green Texas.
I have a baby normal Texas and he looks brown for some reason.

With Central Americans you can try for a pair, but odds aren't great it'll work out.
