Hey guys! Sorry for failing to upload last week; my recording software hasn't been working on my laptop, and Krita has been super laggy as well, so it took me a while to figure it all out. I will try to upload an extra video during this next week to make up for the missed upload! Let me know if you have any other questions about painting skin tones and I can make a Part 2 to this!

Right???

Guess I gotta go watch some makeup tutorial now...
Same tbh

Nice! When I paint skin, I like to put yellow over the forehead, red on the cheeks, and blue on the chin. I then put it on about 10% opacity. It adds more tones and makes things slightly more realistic
Michaela Clark thanks for this tip !
i love doing that
i heard of this technique but never knew how to aplly this to my paintings, thx !
This sounds more intuitive. I've been advised to use blue across the forehead to reflect the sky. I suppose that depends on lighting in the environment though. This is a very helpful tip, thank you!
Thanks for that tip, I´ll defnitley try it out. I tend to be a bit scared when it comes to coloring so I don´t get much depth in my drawings but I think this tip will make it stand out more. I especially struggle with skin tones that are either really light or really dark, I just can´t get the right contrast.
Isn't it amazing how the same picture can turn out looking so different after colouring?
Yes...I agree

Yep. You love the line art but then you hate the outcome 😂 At least that’s my experience
True
This was incredibly helpful. Especially for the blue skin. I think I always shade with cooler colors, but I think warmer colors make more sense! Thank you for making this.

Awesome!

Ahmed Aldoori ikr, i love your tutorials tooo, you guys are awesome and my favorites :))))
AW-HA-MED. Ahmed
I watch makeup tutorials for the same reasons too!! Makeup is really good for understanding facial structures and it has really helped me a lot on how the face is formed. Great video!! Can't wait to see more 😊😊😊
Omg, this video has been a godsend 😍 I was just complaining about my inability to blend and make skin tones and that I would love to watch a speedpaint about it.
Thank you, thank you! 💙
Keep it up with the fantastic work!
Greetings from Honduras!
You dont need to feel bad if you didnt post last week, this is YOUR channel, u can do whatever u want
It doesn't matter that you didn't uploaded a video last week and please don't apologise for that. ♡ Love your video greetings from the Netherlands!
Was about to say just that
aw, yeah, i'm always happy when she uploads new videos, preferably not reviews, though, but it doesn't matter all that much, just like to hear her talk out her ideas!)
You said "sunburn" while painting a ginger!
**sunburn flashback memories**
I had no idea you had all these tutorial videos and I'm loving it! You're super inspirational thanksgiving!
You've completely evolved the way I paint. I'm so glad I discovered this channel...
Your taste is so amazing. Love the style. Please never stop.
Really awesome video Sara!
Totally understand what you said about makeup being helpful in painting. Ever since I started wearing a full face of makeup I feel I have a much better understanding of shadows and light on the face!
Anyway you are amazing hun! Love from Portugal 🇵🇹
very glad to see you back!!!!
Thankyou so much Sara for the arteza review video by the way and I'm extremely excited to get to using them😊
Woah the makeup tutorial idea is really awesome, thanks so much for all your videos they are inspiring and very helpful
This is so amazing. I have no idea how to paint AT ALL i just use colors i see without actually it being the right one. Now i managed to paint skintone i like thanks to you! I subscribed. Please keep being awesome and making videos hehe lots of ♡
Love this! So helpful and inspirational, whenever I watch your videos I have the sudden urge to draw! 💓
I'm so happy I've stumbled upon this vid because I've improved my coloring omg bless u you're the best
wow this video was sooooo helpful like I never knew this about highlighting and stuff thanks
Wow girl you are so talented you can paint with watercolors, oil and you can also paint digitaly!!
Love it! This was helpful to see the different undertones you chose for each of the skin tones. I keep meaning to try digital painting, but I feel so intimidated by it ;^; I've done some very simple cartoon-y drawings, but I've never tried to layer colors to achieve a semi-realistic or realistic style. Thank you for showing your process! :)
Excellent artwork with such brilliant details and designed. Hope you have a wonderful day.
Thank you so much for uploading this! You explain things so nicely (is that even word? 😂)! Usually I do a lot of cell shading in my art works and the few "realistic" portraits I've done so far were in black and white, so I struggle a lot with skin tones. I want to be able to paint semi-realistically too, not just in my usual cartoony/ comic kind of style, so this tutorial is perfect for some future studies!
Super helpful! Thanks for making this!
Your art is awesome!!
Wow this is great! Skintones are always my biggest weakness when painting
Thank you Sara!!! I was thinking to grey scale it first then colour
Great video! When you were talking about making the lighter parts more warm and the shadows more cool. thats because the warm colors pop out more. And the cool colors recede back. just a fun little fact.
This helped me so much for my final project, Tysm!
this is amazing!! I never learned how to shade any other skin tones than my own so I only drew really pale people. tysm!
Can you please do a part to the painting process was going so fast there's only so much I understood and that was troublesome on my part because I was trying hard to get your paint process down while trying to find my on painting style
This is so beautiful and satisfying. Thank you for sharing your skills.
I love how your portraits are becoming more diverse and expressive!
Wow. That's some unusual technique. Gotta try this.
Thank you very much!
Thanks for the tips Sara, really helpful!
Yayyy finally someone who use Krita !
It would be really helpful if you could make a video about how to use layers!!
Your Tutorials are always super detailed and helpful! Thanks for taking the time for making them! Can you make a video on shading and highlights please :) I must try the makeup video thing 😂
This video just changed my life!!! Thank you so much
How are your videos always so relevant to what im struggling with?
Oh my gosh, my painting looks amazing now! thanks!!!
thanks for explaining everything so thoroughly!
I watch make-up videos to help me with my art too! and I'm happy you mentioned it because I want others to find it helpful to them :D Plus watching make-up videos are fun
really good video sara! very helpful
really cool video Sara, thks ^^
I love this so much! Super helpful, thank you!
I'm early!! Excited to watch :)
I loved this thank you 😊 lovely artwork by the way
Really, really big thanks for this tutorial, love ya
Excellent tutorial! So true about adding highlights early. Typically leads me to spending too much time trying to find balance. Thank you and looking forward to more. ***** :-)
How does she set the program so it only colours the outlines and not everything else at the start of the video?
You are an amazing artist and I love watching your videos, I have a question for you, now I’ve been drawing for about 20 years now and just ordered me a tablet and I never drawn on a computer, so my question is can you slow down the pencil/pen until I can get use to it ( the feel of it)
Yes, thank you for sharing this!
Hi Sara, thanks for uploading. Is that Painter or PS you're using with a wacom? And what brushes are you using.
Another tutorial from you, I was about to subscribed then I saw I am already subscribed. That should mean your good at doing tutorial. xoxo 😊
Hiiiii I really hope that you or somebody notice this and answer me because i'm STRUGGLING with this problem in Krita.my black is green!i choose BLACK in color selector but it draws green! i don't know what to do please help me!
Getting quite nostalgic when seeing people still using windows 7 :D
It is sooooo helpful!!! Thank you! U're really good at explaining things. And it's an awesome feature alongside with the quality of art u produce!
Please consider making lineart and brushes for it tutorial if u'll have time ! ;)
That was awesome and really helpful.Does the link that u mentioned have extra videos? and what are they about?
This was so helpful! Thank you!
Gr8 video. It was helpful to know your technique. Do you think it would be useful to paint different skin tones in separate layers, so that you can adjust their color at the end? You could use a fill layer that's filled with single color, then add a transparency mask to it and paint into that mask. That way you have better control to change color of all layers at the end.
First of all thank you for this video!!!! I would appreciate it if you did another video regarding color. I've learned a lot from just this one video but I still feel like I need more help with skin tones. For some reason whenever I add the skin color and then do the hair color the skin tone becomes desaturated which means I have to change the color of the hair and so on. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong? Or how can I fix this?
What brush/ type of brush was she using to paint the skin? I really like it but can’t find a brush with the similar style (eg acrylic, watercolour, pen, pencil etc)
This is great but another thing, that I personally do, is make paler skin tones less saturated, as they are typically have less melanin, therefore giving them less color in general. And then the darker the skin tone, I make it more saturated (unless the undertones are blue).
this video was SO HELPFUL TY!
This was the most helpful video I've ever watched
More helpful then how to draw hands
Hey! Amazing tutorial! What software do you use for screen recording /time lapse? Could anyone suggest some good softwares out there?
this was so helpful!!!
Thank you Sara for this vid :3
hi um i just wanted to say your style and your work is so gorgeous and inspiring to me. I've been trying to get into using more saturated and almost unnatural tones in my portraits as everything is usually basic colors. recently ive seen a lot of your digital work has very eye catching, bright, saturated lighting and i was wondering if you had any tips/ advice for starting to do that kind of thing? if you have already im sorry im Silly bye
So amazing! Thank you! ❤️
What program is this and how can I get those type of lines ! Idk what brushes to use I’m relatively new to digital art
how did you get the advance color selector???
Can you tell me what kind of brushes that you used? is that something like copic?, i tried but mine still a mess🥲
i know its been two years but if anyone could tell me what brushes they used in the vid that would be very helpful
Are you using the soft airbrush for the skin? The soft airbrush comes out suuuper faded for me so I just wanted to double-check
Hello. I'm just approaching the painting. Cause I've always drawn but never coloured. But I don't understand which brush should I use to do something like this. Do you use a krita brush, or have you made a custom brush? And, if it is a custom brush, how can I make one similar too? Can someone help, please, I wanna learn to paint D:
Awesome video thanks for this cool information and tips....... It really helps me..... But why you use... Blue color to last girl? Is that girl is from avatar movie..?
Hi, I tried it and it works! thanks so much!
I use procreate and I have a problem with getting the right brush like the one you used in this video l need some help lol anyone know the problem
I like to paint in gray scale to "get the colors right" and then drop the target colors on top of that.
What brush do you use for coloring skin?
does procreate have an equivalent to adjusting the curves?
I loved it, thank you💛
What do you use to blend the colors?? I need help
Love ur vids and ur art 😍❤️
i did everything you did up to 2:16 where you started painting the skintone but mine didn't show the color as clearly as yours did. It was as if the transparency was very low. Please help me.
Can I ask what brush you are using? NIce art btws! Thanks for uploading! ^^
what is the name of the app you use for your art? I wanna try it ehheehe
I want to like it hundred times
Great video! 💕May I ask what brush do you use in Krita? ☺️
which brush did you used? ps. amzing tutorial.
great tutorial, really spot on theory as well! I always like to think of skin colour as operating on a spectrum of 'brown to creme/whisper' vs 'red to yellow' (much as you described it) as I find it gives the most realistic and nuanced skin tones -- I believe I read somewhere it is meant to be scientifically accurate to the real world, though I can't remember where I read it -- thought your point about sticking to the redder tones when working lighter was really interesting and will have to test that for myself! :D
Also the thing you spoke about adding warmth to highlights and coolness to shadows is referred to as 'analogous shading' (though you probably already knew that) and is supposed to reflect how light works under sunlight in the real world, because as you mentioned the sun is warm in it's hue (and just generally warm) which is probably why it yields a very appealing result when used in art; it really bothers me when art tutorials only mention monochromatic shading especially when you can see that the artist makes use of warm and cold in their shading...
I find that for cool lighting it gives a really nice result if you flip the script and make highlights cold and shadows warm :D
Anyways great video, bit of a long comment; brevity was never my strong suit.
Stay Awesome! :D
Very helpful, thank you very much! ❤️
amazing very good video !!!
