Hey guys 👋 I should’ve mentioned this in the video, my bad. Just wanted to credit Likelihood Art as I was HEAVILY inspired by one of her pieces of work when creating the dude in the thumbnail. She’s an amazing artist and you should go give her a follow if you don’t already❤️ Check Out Likelihood Art's work: RUclips: www.youtube.com/@LikelihoodArt/videos Instagram: instagram.com/likelihood_art/ Twitter: twitter.com/likelihood_art
This video was super helpful, I was actually quite shocked when I clicked on it and saw the ridiculously low amount of likes and views! Thank you for this though, fingers crossed you'll blow up because you'd deserve it! Great video
2:13 looks like the way i color most of my OC's though most of them are either suffering for various mental illnesses, are junkies or are chronically tired. So it checks out. Anywho thank you for the thorough tutorial
This video was is so useful. You just summarized everything you need to know about painting skin in one simple video by actually explaining how to paint any skin in any style, not just showing us how YOU do it without telling us about the reasons for the brush strokes you put. Tysm for this video, i can't believe how i missed channel till now❤
Thank you for respectfully providing tips and making a genuine effort to reach ppl how to color tan-dark skin, most ppl are so disingenuous and backhanded with their guide, but you really made a mature amazing effort without the subtle racism lol
Was hesitant to click on this video everytime i saw it because the art isn't the art style i am going for but its actually really good! Like it doesn't show how to color skin in ur artstyle but rather tips and fundamentals that can be applied to any artstyle, thanks a lot!
Also for the heads/planes it’s paid for the extra stuff but customizable is head model studios. I loved this video over time I’ve gotten better at sketches but I still can’t color for anything and this video helped so so much
WOW the algorithm is at work! Bc I was just finishing a sketch and feeling kinda :/ about how it looked(sketches don’t need to be perfect but I’m dumb and a perfectionist) and I was like “okay well I know what to practice more on” AND THEN I OPEN RUclips TO SEE THIS VIDEO NICELY EXPLAINING EVERYTHING I NEEDED HELP WITH😭 instant subscriber fr
Happy to hear the algorithm served you up my video! Haha yeah I’m a bit of a perfectionist too, it can be a real pain sometimes! Thanks so much for the sub 😁
I almost screamed when you talked about edge control. A LOT of people jump this and it's one of my main issues. Also what kind of brush do you use on edges, Idk if it's me but when I use my soft brush it's not a stable, my pressure makes it have some darker spots. Still getting the hang of it
I usually just use one of the default hard round brushes that come with photoshop. Then if I want to smooth things up a bit I use a soft round brush that has a bit of a grainy texture. You’ll start to get use to it eventually, just keep at it 😊
So art has never been my thing, and I never cared about it. But this year, since I was really unproductive, I decided to do something with my life and try to gain the skill. My main goal is to draw decent stylized people digitally. I started with animals, and although I improved quickly, I swiftly hit a wall which I just couldn't get past. So I braved it and started drawing humans, I even bought Procreate for maximum results. And.. I'm improving again! Results are a little slow but there's definitely some learning going on, and I'm happy wifh my progress. I'm undoubtably still a beginner, but I try to draw daily. Your viddos have been extremely helpful because they inspire me and make me think "hey, maybe if I practice enough, I can get to that guy's level". I'm surprised you're not more popular. Thanks for the opportunity and inspiration. And if you have any words of advice for a beginner, shoot!
It’s great to hear you’ve taken an interest in art! Having something to focus some of your time and energy on every day, working towards being a little bit better at each day can give you a great sense of purpose and achievement. As far as advice is concerned: Be patient with yourself. Progress won’t be constant, there will be slow periods. Focus on enjoying the process of learning. Avoid constantly comparing yourself to others. You can use other people’s work as something to strive towards but don’t allow yourself to become upset because you’re not at their level yet. Draw things because you have a genuine interest in them, not because you feel like you have to. And finally, I’d say the most important thing of all is to just maintain a positive, chill attitude. Don’t be overly attached to your work, at the end of the day it’s about having an enjoyable experience drawing ✍️
My first time seeing your channel and I already feel like I learned so much. I love how you give instructions that are easy to understand. You got a new subscriber 💜
The info in this video can be applied to dark skin tones also but yes I’ll definitely be making vids in the future that go into further detail and demonstration of painting dark skin tones so stay tuned for that 😊
One of the first videos that actually teach you HOW and not just repeating the steps the artist does, thank you so much for this wonderful video Gained a sub
Thanks for this video, it remind me of how much my art improved since I got a better understanding of the planes of the face and the color map of the face and that's something I wish I knew back then when I started in digital art a few years ago
what a coincidence, i really needed a shading tutorial with this style because i've been wanting to change my shading style. this was helpful, thank you!
Thanks for the helpful video. You have a really nice art style! Definitely looking forward to learn more from you, I’ll be on the lookout for your content
This was quite useful! I often have trouble with colour, especially when painting skin. I’ll have have to start implementing some of these tips into my art
Glad you found it useful! Yep skin definitely is one of the most challenging things to paint. But as long as you stick with it, it starts to get a bit easier 😁
Colour zones in the face are essentially the same. The only difference is that with really dark skin the colour zones will be a little bit more subtle.
OMG i was searching for a video like this for such a long time, i always liked this kind of art style but didn't how to render the skin in a way that actually fit the art style
eyy just a reminder to beginner artists (expanding on the vid's point of speed): everyone's pace differs. you're not a bad artist because it took you 5 days or more to finish your artwork. speed is not the sole determinator that you're a pro artist either, there's a lot of other factors involved there (years of practise, solid muscle memory & mastery of fundamentals, honed eye for personal aesthetics etc). a complete beginner can finish a weird looking doodle in 5 secs and a pro can make a minimalist doodle just as fast, but the speed isn't the point. it's the result, and the journey it took you there. take your time, learn to have fun & experiment with parts of the process
I know theoretically that I got to do the right versions but my skill level be doing all the wrongs especially the black shading like why when I see a shadow my brain be like PITCH black to gray to suddenly lighter skin like what??? The struggle is real :D Thank you for this video it is very helpful too see the mistakes and what to do when spotted
Haha yeah it’s one thing to understand it theoretically but to actually apply it is the challenging part, eventually it just clicks though and it becomes second nature. Glad you found the vid helpful 😊
Every time I draw anything ever, I have to fight the urge to over render. I see a hard edge, and I want to get rid of it so badly. It's such a problem. I'm fighting with myself every time I draw.
ngl i have a weak eyesight and the green thingy on ur thumbnail made it look like it says "pakistan" to me lol, i was like dude what?? cool vid btw keep up the good work fellow artist
idk if you're still responding to comments on this video, but I have a question: how do you know which edges to soften/blur, or to keep sharp? (this is for edge control)
It depends on how harsh or soft your lighting is and how angular or soft the features of the face you’re painting is. If you have a strong light source shining above someone you’re going to get sharper edges especially in places like under the nose and chin because they’ll cast strong shadows. If the light source is softer you’ll get softer edge transitions. The more prominent a feature on a face is the less you have to soften it. For example if someone has very strong cheekbones, you can keep that part of the face a bit more sharp. If you’re painting someone who is a bit more chubby, then you’re going to soften the edges out a bit more in their cheeks. I recommend using photo reference if you’re not already to help you decide how soft or sharp your edge transitions are.

But what if i want the skin to suck? I mean suck. What?
@@iAmNothingness 4:37 you can use the advise he said here but instead use the colors from 'badly' done artworks for your art.
After watching hundreds of skin painting tutorials, I have to say, this one is by far the most helpful. This channel’s going somewhere 😭
Thank you so much ☺️
