Another thing to add is from what I’ve seen is that darker skin tones tend to be slightly more saturated than lighter ones (tho this is not always the case for everybody) this can help your darker skin tone/black OCs from looking like they have gray skin!!!
thank you for this video! it’s a part of my art passion to learn how to choose the right skin colour, and how to render it on a character. thank you thank yoouu!! 🙏🖤🤍
ok... I may or may not have had a tough day today, and I may or may not have almost cried when I realized one of my top 3 artists had posted a tutorial video. I feel like I say this a lot in the comment sections of my favorite artists, but this video alone has made my day. Please understand, Blue, that your videos have a place in my heart, and they very much help me in my life. (no pressure lol) Also, I DESPERATELY needed a render/coloring tutorial for skin. I'm starting to get tired of my drawings having no ~saltiness~ to them xD
Ily please dont die. Before i found your channel i mainly traced (didnt post anywhere) or used my gacha ocs, now im here sitting trying to find the style im most comfortable with and finally learning how to do stuff on my own Yes as im wriitng this i have my big sketch pad in front of me full of shapes, anatomy, my attempts to draw side view and a smoll character. funny how i draw both traditionally and digitally (Pain)
Blue you always know exactly what tutorials I need, Ilysm please keep up the amazing work! Your rendering style is exactly what I wanted mine to look like so to see someone with a similar look I’m going for makes me really happy
i was recently trying to study lighting on faces and skin, and I was really struggling. I just finished my third study yesterday, and it still looks terrible. I was feeling really lost when suddenly Blue posts!!
Watching ur videos have helped encourage me to draw more so thank u so so much for everything! I’ve been struggling to decide my art style since i have like two personalities, liking two very different art styles at once and it gets overwhelming, but i’m trying to understand its fine to have two styles! Thank you for your videos, help, and calming tone to help with everything :]
Notes for myself: Base- Choose the skin colour and then make sure it fits with the environment -For lighter skin do blush (on multiply?) and darker use highlights (this isn’t always the case tho) (If doing a type of drawing where the bloodcells light up, simply put a brighter, reddish colour in between the skin and shading) -how-to, put blush in places w thinner skin because that’s where the blood shows up more! Simple (eg, cheekbones, under eyes, joints) But you can also use it to define things too! -shading can be purplely bluey pinky colours on multiply and lowered opacity -how-to! You know how to shade! Pro tip tho, always remember- where the light source? And natural shading such as under the neck, or under bangs! Since it’s skin, maybe use two colours near each other yet contrasting (a cool purple vs a warmer purple)! ALSO don’t forget that the lasso tool airbrush method exists -finally, add highlights with an opposing colour don’t be afraid to do bold shading, maybe try finding the darker colours yourself even! It’s a good excersize! Half face is commonly used for this -how to- add it on the other side of shading/to define things, especially on creases FINALLY! add a tiny bit of pink or whatever colour you need to use to DEFINE the skin (like lower the opacity or airbrush it) Especially if -you’re trying to contrast blonde hair -you’re feeling too lazy to do it manually Always remember that the colour changes based on the environment and don’t forget to be bold AND THEN paint the remaining shapes that aren’t lined ykyk
I was just practicing skin painting the other day, and when I saw this video I clicked so fast, LOL. Excellent tutorial, lots of nice tips in here (love the subsurface scattering and that you give advice for a variety of skin tones!)
I honestly am just in love with your videos, from the digestible information and examples to the way you format everything. just want you to know you are a life saver and most definitely Appreciated. Thank you so much Love :)
I really love the way you explain each concept within the video.. this is inspirational and helpful for is beginners ✨ There's hope for us who use mobile phones and stylus 😭
BROOOOOOOO PERFECT TIMING I WAS JUST NEEDING THIS, TYSM BLUE, BTW JUST ASKIG U SAY THAT CALLIGRAPHY IS A DEFAUKT BRUSH ON PROCREATE? I DONT SEE IT THOUGH OK BYEEE TYSM ILY/p
4:57 Now that you mentioned it, i felt like agreeing because i have been studying body references and other parts of the body and faces, now, it's time to shine my darling. Let me know about all the color theorys. This helped me a little but it was worth my time!! I adore you for this! you saved my life again Bluebiscuit!! To say the truth, i was struggling to find my own color theory and haven't figured it out yet since a year ago. So it's time for me to try and get my own.
This made so much sense!!! Thank you so much. I do have a question , what’s the grey base about? I know a lot of artists use it but no one ever talks about it. Thanks so much!!
I always watch blue’s art videos because any other how to videos are just “HOW TO DO ULTRA REALISTIC SHADING *EASY*” like bro. My art style is more goofy than a clown and all of my OC’s have the face of a single celled organism
I love love love your art style omg thank you thank you so much for this bc I did not understand how rendering like this worked until I found your videos so thank you sm !!!! 💖💖💖
I'm still waiting for my iPad :D And I hope watching these videos give me a head start :) (Been drawing around on a screenless tablet, But I felt like it was limiting my skills)
Hey! I've been recently trying to do things I enjoy and your videos are super helpful (chaotic and silly at times but still really helpful lol) and I was wondering if you'd think about giving a simple guide of how to use clip studio, it is a lot more going on than i expected LOL tysm love your art and your vids
yo dawg Im noticing within your csp layout (8:00) you have set your different tools to be floating to reduce clutter. Considering this, I would suggest you use keybinds to increase and decrease your brush size instead of manually changing it. I'm learning animation at the moment and have found that the 'F' and 'R' keys are great for this. Unfortunately my dumbass set them wrong and got used to having 'F' as increase and 'R' as decrease, but I suggest making 'R' increase brush size and 'F' decrease brush size. Also, the '' keys cycle between your subtools within the set you have selected. For example, '' would take you to the Flat Watercolour Brush. Thought it might be helpful, gangsta vibes from Australia (GO SPRINGBOKS) p.s., MINJYE uses the reference window to add a pre drawn colour palette to refer to while painting, if that helps
Just when i was planning on learning how to color and render, blue just comes in at the perfect time
FR. I was wanting to yesterday but totally fell asleep then woke up to this. 😭🙏🙏🙏
Omg same
Literally 😅
I SWEAR SAME
Another thing to add is from what I’ve seen is that darker skin tones tend to be slightly more saturated than lighter ones (tho this is not always the case for everybody) this can help your darker skin tone/black OCs from looking like they have gray skin!!!
Same goes for shading a lot of the time. When I darken colours, I add more saturation
