Thank you for all this info!! One thing that I find fun about posting oc art is that if you have a little audience or some mutuals who enjoy oc lore keep things vague at first while slowly dropping clues about their story!! This is something I really liked doing, because it involved messing with my friends and telling more people about my characters. Doing it episodically is the key :D

Didn't Instagram change hashtags, that you cant really filter for the new works, but only see a collection of the most popular. That's so destructive for new artists...
You are correct , the only way poeple see things in the hashtag is by following it now and getting post related to it , yt hashtags work a lot better

@@nonickname-zy9mu Sorry for not answering before, but before Instagram hashtags were sorted into multiple lower categories.
So if you take #art you had a tab with the top posts in it and one with the most recent posts with the hashtag.
This made it possible to find small artists etc that just posted something with that hashtag. Now only the top posts that already have bunch of views can be seen. Its pretty sad tbh.
1) focus on growing and stay on the forefront of audience’s mind by being consistent. Post actual art once a week.
2) repost old work.
3) have a doodle/sketch acc + main (put in bio)
4) engagement >>> quantity/follows etc
5) take care of mental health
6) online prescience (ur look). Have a pfp that represents who u r and ur artist. Keep the same pfp
Username: stick out in ppl’s head -> needs to be sticks out, easy to say and remember. two words eg: para0llel (rolls off the tongue, the zero sticks out)
Bio:
7) post fandoms + trends, hashtags and other artist’s work. Balance between ur og work etc. doing trend with ur own twist to it. Include oc backstory, and other stuff so ppl grow attached to it.
8) draw what u love and put thought and emotion into it.
9) have a recognisable style that makes u immediately recognisable (for me, probably look like smth out of a picture book with textures?
10) negative stuff makes u shadowbanned. Even if it’s a joke. Follow guidelines + community standard. To get unbanned, delete it and delete what;S wrong and post again
11) INTERACTIVE/REACH: colourful, patterns, emotions, relatable -> show experiences ; provoke them to ask questions.

The "sketch account" example is so good!!! i often doodle way more than completing actual full pieces of art so I'll def consider trying this out
Here's an idea if you dont wanna manage more than one account keep posting doodles on stories and have them saved in highlights or smth.

I'm someone who gets immediately depressed when I'm drawing something just for a trend because honestly I feel like it's all the same empty thing every time. I have no idea how I would ever keep up this
Quality over quantity is key, and boost app social has been my go-to for maintaining that. It helps me plan and create content that resonates with my audience, keeping my art's integrity while growing my reach. Any other artists here found it helpful?

I’ve found that doesn’t really hold true anymore unless you have a quality level that makes you top in your industry… otherwise algorithms see infrequent posts and you get buried with low engagement. Social media often operates and pushes up creators with lots of quantity content that can frequently post
If it works for you I’m really glad though! I’ve noticed people nowadays also enjoy consistent content without changes in style or subject, when they follow someone they often want the same vibe to curate to their tastes.
You're giving a wrong advice with a big confidence and a straight face. Quality over quantity doesn't work in social media and any artist would agree with it. If you were to draw the trending thing, you would have to do it fast before the trend died out and striving for quality contradicts it. Simple stuff with simple shadows and zero to no background based on popular themes and characters always gets more attention, than a fleshed out piece of art with immaculate details and render based on not so popular media.
Quality > Quantity is a rule of the past, when DeviantArt was still the most used platform for art. Now you have to post constantly with broader reach to get followers. Only after you get the audience, you can start posting something "for your soul" from time to time. The only exception is if you want to work professionally in a studio where only skill and connections matter, but this video is not about that. Such plan barely works in social media and you have to be really lucky to get noticed that way.
I gave up on social medias because despite doing EVERYTHING you told in this video (and for years), all the interactions I had was robots tagging fake accounts... I'm tired
But I'll have to restart over if I want to grow as an independant artist :/

i feel this so much. have been going on the same for years now, but i decided to enter a tourney server for a game i liked and applied for doing art prizes for the winners. i got to know a lot of artists and people in general and honestly it looks like a great way to start an art career. obviously not the only one but it seems to be working for me :)

I know for a FACT that the posting fandom content works because one time I posted a TADC OC challenge on tiktok since I couldn't find a decent one, and it went semi-viral, as of now, there's 4.8k views, 204 likes, and 62 favs and is my most popular vid on tiktok

I do all these, and taken everyone else’s advice, yet my engagements is going down with every post and my followers list has remained the same amount of numbers for half a year. I’m sick of people saying to just be happy with my numbers, bc *news flash*, I am forever greatful, but what’s wrong with wanting to grow more, esp when I want to make a business at some point?

tysm for this info i think i now know why my art doesnt do well on instagram, i do post decently consistant and a lot of fanart a lot of which being things that are trending, but i constantly switch style, color pallete and brushesso i think that might be my problemn
that might be BUT like i said in the video its good to test around with styles and brushes and to branch out, especially if your a newer artists since your trying to find yourself, youre doing everything right , its just socail media sucks

I think as long as the art you draw of them is emotive, people will remember and soon become curious who the recurring character in your art is! I never draw fan art and nor do most of my mutuals, so there absolutely is an audience out there who prefer original art 💗
another comment said that slowly dropping hints about their story through their art over time will make people more interested in them and get attached! really focus on showing off their personalities! drawing a simple pose is ok for something like a character sheet but try and do more creative things to show off ur OCs normal activities and stuff! like if they love reading draw them sleeping surrounded by books drooling on the pages or if theyre aggressive show them gripping someones shirt with their fist about to beat tf out of them haha! something that does really well also is humor and relatability so people share it and are like "she just like me fr" LMAO if you can find a way to incorporate those things i think it should help! also random but sketches usually do really well too

instagram has me kinda shadowbanned on both my art accounts, not even a single like from people who don´t follow me, not even the bots come to say to dm my art to their accounts, and I don't know why, I don't have anything that goes against Instagram rules.
if you dont post for a while your piece wont end up on others feeds, its like a light shadowban, if you start being a little more active it should help

I always drop some info, plus I upload the comic on a different page compared to my tiktok, but I have the same username and everything you mentioned. I just rather make related content there, as that can usually attract attention and lead people to investigate on what you have. I hope miracles exist and I'll be seen with my hard work :)

great video and good advice, and one of the few videos I've seen on this that are more for artists, recent, and straight to the point.....but please slow down when you're talking and don't mumble so much. Others are thinking it's because they're not native English speakers...but I am and it's nearly impossible to understand you without subtitles. Please slow down and mumble less, I'm begging!
Also multilingual and I used to do the same with one of my other languages, thinking that speaking fast made me sound more native, but it doesn't and I'd much rather have a much longer video with all the same great content...but actually be able to understand you :') and I'm sure your non-native speaker followers are having a rougher time.

I have 1 year worth of a background in PR. Think making posts weekly on behalf of groups/companies with a small community. I got bored and made a fake post on reddit and found chat gbt is really, really good (scarily good) at picking up buzzwords, trendy topics, and ect. That ONE post legit doubled my karma as someone who never posts and typically only comments. I did this as an experiment to see how good Ai is at being an influencer and I'll be damned if Ai is the best influencer.
I wonder what would happen if a current art channel were to adapt using chat gbt descriptions to boost analytics if it would have a more explosive or deadened effect. If you try/already tried this feel free to share the results/data?

You cannot post anything related to partners because that makes people unfollow and also you cannot really say that you are single because once you reach high-audience there will be multiple people being creeps in dm's. For example
My main oc will be from the future, he loves stuff from the 20 and 21st centuries, he tried to create a time machine of his own to visit the past, but in the process he gained acess to different realities, when he travels to some universe, he takes control of an alternate version of himself, and absorbs their memories and personalities
Thats a fun concept for creating different versions of my main oc

I can post anything anywhere and usually the result is radio silence
If it does get attention it cause algorithm made a mistake and the next hour it will all go to normal
