    Before people complain about Artists pricing their commissions high amounts of money, just remember that Artists are human too, majority of them need the money to pay bills, buy food, etc. If you can't buy the artists' commissions, then it's fine, nobody is forcing you to.

    Usually I have the client pay half the price after I do the sketch(usually takes 2-5 minutes) with 3 free major changes(pose, clothes) and minor changes (hair, accessories ) I would just jot down and keep note of them in a checklist. But wow your prices are pretty high! Totally worth it cuz your art is beautiful ❤

      Actually, her prices aren't high at all, if you think they are, you're underselling yourself. Please put your prices higher. People who sell their genuine good art for cheap negatively affect other artists and the market as well.

      @Sussusfrfr Год назад +51

      @@WildVee I never thought of it that way! I guess I will. Right now my prices are in the range of 20-40 usd, you think that’s too low? I sell rendered headshots, lineart, bases, and waist ups and they are all 40 usd or below

    • @WildVee
      @WildVee Год назад +41

      @@Sussusfrfr It depends on your skill level, but I think that you should sell above 40 USD, with a headshot being 40 for example. :) Personally I don't sell linearts (from my own experience, most people don't want it, they want at least a coloured piece, I only ever sold 2 or so lineart pieces whereas I've made hundreds of avatars, flat colors, cell-shaded pieces and even fully rendered artworks). It might take a while to sell your art, but don't be tempted to lower your price. Keep posting and you'll eventually reach the right people. Good luck!

      @@WildVee currently, I get 1-3 commissions a month, and I got one lineart commission. My lineart style mimics tbhk, so I guess some people like it? I might raise the price when I regularly get 3 comms a month 😄 I’m thinking of expanding into the vtuber community as well

      Figure out how much time it takes you to complete each type of/additional work. Identify what minimum wage is in your area. Then, compare it with how much commissions of similar level and complexity as yours generally cost. These pieces of information will help you start from a base cost as if you were working hourly and identify whether you need to adjust that higher or lower depending on market demand.

      A good tip I've come across is to ask 50% of the commission price upfront as a sign for you to actually go ahead and do the comm, then once it's done you give them a preview of the final product, downsized and watermarked, which gets reverted when everything is paid.

      when you're done with the art, you should send them a blurredd version of the art and ask them to pay you for the unblurred version, and as more anyone being displeased just make sure to be honest to them! for example if someone has a really complex character you kight not be able to draw, let them know. and if they're still displeased it's really not your fault

    • @BETAnp

      you can start commissions even if you think your art needs improvement, waiting until it gets better means you’ll wait a while- being an artist means you are constantly improving and finding flaws in your work, so waiting will put you in a cycle and you might never get around to it.
      There will be people out there who love your art and want a commission for what it is now. :)
      Just go ahead with it! and if it doesn’t work, what’s the worst that can happen? You try again later.
      Good luck with everything, and as a fellow artist, I hope your journey in improving your art is successful and fun. 🤗❤️💋

      I see many artists who are not that good technically but have a good following. They mainly make similar art pieces with a specific style,aesthetic, color palette or do reels, connect with other artists, share, retweets and stuff like that. I hate this part of social media, it's also hard to find genuine art peers/friends and build a long lasting relationship online. I don't know if we are doing art or being a social media marketer. So much time that could be used to make more art or improve at it. Maybe I see it this way cause I haven't understood how social media works yet. It's for sure a necessary aspect if you want to make money through art consistently.

Also, it's not just about how "good" you are, but how you connect with people. There's ppl who literally draw stick figures and get a lot of followers, so I think art skills are not that important

      On Instagram I think you need to find other small artists, follow them and share their art in your story. If they notice you, then you can start a conversation, maybe form this "friendly" bond where you're not really friends but still can help each other out. If they return the favor, they might share your own art in their story and then you can grow a larger communication

    i think when it comes to how commissions are priced it should just be based on how valuable you think your time is. say if you had another job and very limited time to draw i think pricing your commissions higher would be totally fair! :))

    Have a T&C in your form, perhaps make an agreement contract after the form. TC should state when refund is not refundable, how many complimentary edits do you allow, poses are really tricky, have them specify or have reference. Always work forward, you do not want to restart your work at any point. imagine commission work in other art form besides drawing, pieces such as sculpture or jewellery have very linear process, the clients get whatever the artist makes.

    This was really helpfull even tho I've been doing commissions for several months now! Though I would like to ask how you gain a following to get commissions, or how you started getting commissions in general since I still struggle with that. I hate using social media but it seems like the only option and I just want to know how you went about getting yourself known (besides your RUclips channel).

    If ur nervous to start art commissions, try game currency first! Its a great start to warm up and you can learn mistakes before involving real money :)
    Also i recommend doing sketch before payment, ive seen many artist getting scammed by finishing the artwork first and not getting paid. Doing the sketch is smth simple and wont u get in huge amount of trouble if they do scam u.
    Also!! I recommend being organised with clients! Keep an online progress for clients to check whenever so they can see where you are at! So much easier, and I highly recommend notion, google slides/doc/etc ! Please update clients!!!!
    Good luck and I hope all goes well for you, dont fret if it doesnt start out well, and make sure ur happy with the decision! Don’t overwork too much!! (°▽°)

    I know a lot of people can be a bit mad at artist charging their artworks for 50$ for something that they made for only 2 hours. If I had comissions and I was drawing for 15 years. The drawing I gave you is not worth 2 hours, it’s worth 15 years to look that good. You aren’t paying for time, you are paying for experience.
