U literary pointed out everything but I want to point out something too, changing the face shape is also important many beginners don't change their face shapes so the emotion will still come out little stiff or weird it's like when someone is shocked their face automatically become long, I recommend trying these emotions with circles then going to the actual art style of urs
So true! Squash and Stretch is one of the most important elements of animation, and it applies very well to illustration as well. In real life, we are soft, watery bags of meat, so we're hardly rigid in most ways :)
@@DiyaCh-u6n Personally, my vote goes to face shape and mouth. They're the most flabby and flexible parts of the face. Eyeballs are always spheres, but cheek fat can stretch any way
it is really showing how good your videos are, that i could be watching thousands of tutorials on a topic, yet i wont understand how to do it myself until i watch yours. thank you!
Something also nice for expressions: Exaggeration! Instead of being just happy or angry or sad, have your drawings _beam_ with joy! _Curl_ and _explode_ with rage! _Collapse_ into sorrow! Don't let those emotions be subtle! (Obviously, the level and/or presence of exaggeration varies across art styles, emotions, context, intent, etc. Cartoony is more exaggerated than realistic, comedy is more exaggerated than mystery, an unexaggerated character in an exaggerated setting can show untrustworthiness, an exaggerated character having an unexaggerated expression can show a tonal shift, so on and so forth) (For comedy, look at RandoWis)
it can also be helpful to look into how actors use their facial expressions to convey emotions just like in animation you want your character to act out scenes just like an actor would with their body- you'd also want to consider how someone would use their face to act as well!
Now how did this video find me exactly while I was struggling with drawing expressions. Tried every tutorial, finally found one not mainly meant for people with specific artstyles ! Thank you
I've been watching your videos for some months now and I just wanna say thanks lmao You've been a big help for my escape from artblock and doing my own art studies thanks so much
TBH facial expressions are one of the few art-related things I’m actually decent at. I never thought I needed to improve but this video still was so helpful! Your art is so inspirational :) it just goes to show you always have room for improvement, because your advice helps so much even though I knew a lot of it already. Keep it up!
This actually helped me out a ton with getting motivated to do face mapping because I currently am struggling with it. Just drawing expressions from real people or shows helps me map the eyes and mouth together. Thanks again
I’ve only just started to attempt faces I haven’t been able to draw them for years and gave up I’ve watched countless tutorials BUT this is the only own I understood you’ve taken me out my art block thank you I immediately subbed ❤️
This video, like all the others, helps me a lot to progress in my drawing and I have to thank you a lot for that Also, I have to say that I loved the thumbnail
As a wannabe comic artist, expressions are one of the most important things i'd have to learn, and this was very helpful! Thanks! Also, love your art style!
You will always be my favorite artist and my biggest inspiration~!! I always look forward to your videos! Thank you for your tutorials they are amazing and very easy for me to understand! ^^
-Study real life references then try to simplify. Focus on Pressure points and flows -Eyes and eyebrows are especially important. -Wrinkles add intensity -Think of mouths as having four points to manipulate
your tutorials are so well explained thank you biscuits for helping me with expression 💪it’s always been a struggle for me lmao , would you happen to have a discord sever ? ö
I appreciate the advice you're giving! it's very helpful tho I think it'd help you if you made your faces a little bit more extreme it seems like you're struggling to let go of the cuteness factor and that's fine but also it doesn't sell the expression as well as it could for example, the screaming person you drew at 5:55 looked like they were just opening their mouth for a dentist as opposed to being in fear your "emoji" for the same expression does look a bit better tho
Could you please show us how u set up your art supplies? Like what supplies you use and how you use the, and what u recommend? I want to buy a tablet and other things but I would like to see what you use because you are my favourite artist 😊 ❤❤
Honestly I'm not a professional artist like you but I do my best to make my own style especially your content reminds me a lot of that of LavenderTowne otherwise excellent video.
Thank you so much Blue! I've been struggled drawing expressions for a long time now and gratefully one of my favorite youtube artist just dropped the exact tutorial that I need! You and your art is wonderful and i need to say that so thanks 🎉
Or their on some kind of drugs 💀😅. Also love your videos. I love that you mentioned the problem of when you change the expression, it changes your style. Because I have that problem.
The problem is that I've made a character, whose first expression was an evil grin and it looked really good. But now im unable to make a neutral face for that character because it doesn't add up to what I imagine his neutral face supposed to look like. It looks way too soft. Im trying to make it look tougher but I just can't make it right and it's seriously bugging me.
Personally I still struggle with drawing the same character Twice or in different poses and expressions. If I draw my character once I can't draw it the same twice :(

Well put! Couldn’t agree more :)

@spam-el3ee When you use squash and stretch, what are the most powerful aspects of the face you should put them into
@@DiyaCh-u6n Personally, my vote goes to face shape and mouth. They're the most flabby and flexible parts of the face. Eyeballs are always spheres, but cheek fat can stretch any way
