    Two years later and this is not aging well. Brutal summer and every day people walking out of GLF look at the old hotbox across the street and they're not remarking on its supposed beauty. They are just thankful today's game was not there.

    • @BlockingThePlate
      @BlockingThePlate  3 месяца назад

      I actually posted a revision to that at some point either as a Short or on Twitter. Somewhere. Yeah, the heat can definitely be brutal, so I get the idea of having it closed and A/C tight, but the park is still a bummer. It's just so damn bland, and the disrupted sitelines throughout the park are a real (unpleasant) surprise. But yes, I get it. It gets hot. (I've been to games in the old park in the summer, and the new park too. I traveled to Texas 4 times last year.)

    I honestly don’t care how plain the ballpark looks, I’m just glad they finally have a roof and air conditioning, that heat can be dangerous. The heat also effects the players, especially the pitchers, which is why the pitching sucks because nobody wants to play in a ballpark in 108 degree weather.

    Haven’t been to it yet, but so glad we don’t have to deal with the heat. The new stadium will grow and develop character. But he is right, the old park had Texas style. It was a fort, it was unique and had so many details that you liked to spot.
    Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs.
    I am haunted by waters.

      It’s mind-boggling to me too, but I heard that the original plan was to keep the old one and build a retractable roof over it. I can’t remember if that’s correct or why it didn’t happen but if it’s true and it fell through I guarantee you that’s because they thought it’d be a better use of the hundreds of millions it would cost to retrofit a roof to make a new stadium.

    I think they have nailed it in being a party spot. Full service bars all over the place on the concourses, and they have integrated it very nicely with Texas Live , creating a pretty nice 'ballpark village' bar and restaurant scene. Its similar to its other neighbor, AT&T stadium, traditionalists are going to hate it , it's 'sterile', and there is nothing distinctive about its architecture inside, but its comfortable and it seems like they can herd people in and charge them whatever they want. Rangers have had nice crowds considering the state of their franchise now and being in the middle of a pandemic a lot of people are afraid of.

    • @BlockingThePlate
      @BlockingThePlate  3 года назад

      I agree on the Texas Live spot, but they could have done a lot of that with the old park too. St Louis and Philly have them too. And in-park, I like the layout of the 100-level concourse too.

      They CAN charge what they want, but regardless pandemic or not, they have a hard time getting meat in the seats, excluding their good run back in 2010/2011. They went to the World series for two years and they act like they are a powerhouse in baseball.

    Dear stadium architects. Please take a look at the old Comiskey Park. You can fit alot of people in a small stadium where everybody has a great seat. These third decks at these new stadiums are way too high and way too far away from the field. Thats why they are always empty, nobody wants to sit there. The new stadium is the most bland of any stadium I’ve ever seen, Triple A Round Rock is another very plain stadium that people talk highly about.
