Don't get me wrong, I miss the ballpark I grew up in but the new stadium has a lot of better food options and I feel has a modern yet a little rustic feel to it. The exterior design looks like a giant warehouse... but the interior has soo many shout outs to the history and design of the original stadiums. You should definitely cover the remodeling of Real Madrid's stadium, the Santiago Bernabeu in Spain. Pretty much they redid the stadiums façade and added a new retractable roof. The team's management decided it was more important to spend €1 billion remodeling the current stadium in order to honor its illustrious history for years to come than to build a new one from scratch. I feel like this is what the Yankees should have done with Old Yankee Stadium.

I’m from the area and have been to the old ballpark and recently been to the new park. I agree that the old park was great in its design, and although I went there a bunch of times, it was just way too hot to enjoy for long. So I 💯 supported the building of the new park when it was announced because I can’t stand the Texas heat. I’ve gone to Glob Life Field twice. The first time was for my graduation from UTA where the commencement ceremony was held. That was pretty cool. The second time was to watch a game. Over all I prefer the new field more in every possible way except in appearance. The old field looked like what a baseball stadium should be. But the new park is beautiful on the inside and it’s got a killer AC for those hot miserable Texas days. The old park would be absolutely great somewhere up in the Northwest or Northeast along a coastline with a cool breeze blowing in. But is impractical in Arlington.

Why THIS design? Did they actually think it looked good? Architects bid on these projects. Certainly not all architects offered only ugly Costco Warehouse looking designs. And they brought none of the great features over to the new stadium. The marble white arches in centerfield, the centerfield berm, the right field deck. In the new stadium the arches have been replaced by huge brick and blocks out all the natural sunlight. The batters eye berm has been replaced by just a giant green wall of nothingness. But, the fan experiences and things you can't see are SO IMPROVED! There's bars next door with a live entertainment, multiple TV's, shopping, hangout areas that are covered. It's become a really neat area for the fan experience and it's all connected with the park so you can just walk right in. I live near Ft. Worth and have been to all 3 Rangers stadiums. Of course, the first one was a built up minor league stadium. The second one was awesome and truly a great place to see a baseball game. It is now called Choctaw Stadium and primarily hosts high school football games. I often wonder how long it can stay like that.
The current stadium (Globe Life Field) is great for the weather (I’ve been in there when it was 38 degrees and raining, as well as over 100 degrees with thunderstorms). In the summer, the Rangers love to announce the outside temps and then remind the fans that it is a nice 72 degrees inside. With that aside, it is just ok for me. It doesn’t have the same character as Globe Life Park did. What I really don’t understand is how many obstructed view seats there are here and quirky angles. There are actually seats that you can have blocked views of both scoreboards and partially of the field. You would think that with modern architectural designs, this wouldn’t even be an issue. I’m also not a fan of the artificial turf in there after enjoying the natural grass at Globe Life Park.
In the end, I do have to wonder how this stadium will hold up over time. Interestingly enough, with the big translucent window that this has on the 3rd base side of the stadium, it reminds me of American Family Field in Milwaukee somewhat, and we see what issues they are having there right now.

This aged well. So cursed the Rangers won The World Series. They made it in the Globe but couldn't smell the playoffs at the original Arlington stadium. The outside looks like a giant barn but the inside is great. The inside is where what matters. Also you could put any baseball stadium next to AT&T and it's going to pale in comparison. The Globe is now Chactow stadium and is used for concerts also. The new park also has no problem with attendance because you don't feel like you're melting at first pitch because it's not ever over 100 degrees in their roof open or closed. The only Ranger fans who don't like it are the people that think no baseball should be played indoors.

I fucking hate the "Texas Toolshed". The Ballpark in Arlington was a wonderful stadium full of atmosphere and energy, and Globe Life Field is a downgrade in every way possible except for the AC. Sure the AC is nice, but I'd rather go to a game in the Ballpark in 107-degree weather (which I've done before) than go to the new stadium. I still maintain that the reason why Globe Life Field is cursed is because of the decision to move away from the Ballpark.

Inside, lovely ballpark. A batters eye and right field lower bowl renovation would make this stadium perfect aesthetically in my eyes (I am a rangers fan so this may be biased) I do miss the right field 2nd deck and center field offices and overall design from globe life park (now Choctaw Stadium) but us Texans do not miss the heat and that’s the overall purpose this ballpark serves- getting butts in seats to watch our team choke as opposed to paying Bally (Worst Company Ever)
I’ve been to 9 games this season (most I’ve ever attended (partially due to me not having Bally sports) there really isn’t a bad seat from section 27 to the 300’s but the blimp like exterior and overall outside aesthetics are atrocious for 2023 and a new 1 billion dollar ballpark (mainly just from that front POV w the logo on the blimp like roof)

Entitled to your opinion and all but, did you actually pay attention to the video. This stadium wasn't built just to build a new one. The old stadium was beautiful, but no one went to the games between the middle of June to the middle of September because it was just too f--king hot. Fans would roast in those seats. (I know, because I tried more than once.) Simply can't play baseball in an open air stadium in the Texas summer and expect the fans to show up. THAT'S why this stadium was built. I agree that it's no where near as pleasing aesthetically, but people can go to the games and enjoy the experience, which is really all that matters.

What would you propose they do to make Globe Life Field better? Would you really ask them to rip up the exterior shell and replace it with something more fitting to what they had across the street? I do agree about right field. That deck is brutal to climb. But looking at the actual structure itself of Globe Life Field, that batters eye is not going anywhere. Structurally, if you remove that batters eye, you’d do major structural damage to the whole facility. I know, I’ve seen every inch of that ballpark.
The parts of Globe Life Field I’m not pleased with is that centerfield column scoreboard. To me, it looks a lot like Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Centerfield in GLF is too bland.
The upper deck structure, unfortunately, is the trend in most modern ballparks. I’d prefer the way it was across the street in the now old ballpark. That you can’t really get away from. But they really could’ve done a better job with the exterior, centerfield, and the lower bowl in Globe Life Field.

So easy to add a new veneer brick trim around it to spruce it up. But why spend money in that area. Ask any of the Rangers teams players. The club house and all the amenities they have there they have a hospital in there everything ever needed to rehab to work out right inside the cool confines of the club house.

I loved the design of The Ballpark in Arlington. I watched my Rangers play there throughout my childhood. A retractable roof and climate control were a definite must. The Ballpark in Arlington was built in 1994 when there was a resurgence of nostalgia for the old ballparks. That was a big factor in its design using brick and the inclusion of the right field grand stands. Besides the open air ballpark paying homage to the olden days, retractable roofs at the time were not mainstream. I hate that they put aluminum bench seats in right field which gives it the feel of a middle school football stadium.
That being said, the climate controlled interior of the new ballpark is a godsend. I have no doubt attendance went up because we fans wouldn’t have to endure 105° heat. The roof is bland but the entrances and interior, basically everything the fans see and interact with, are great. I appreciate that they incorporated brick columns and large windows to let in natural light in the left field. Karbach sky porch is great. Watching the game in the rocking chairs is a good experience. The addition of high tables and the children’s corner in upper deck third baseline is awesome. I think his review of the stadium focuses too much on the roof.

I didn't know that the White Sox considered copying that outfield grandstand. I think that would have been a huge improvement to GR field. I would like to see a whole stadium built that way. Who cares if there's a few obstructed view seats. The overhang and the lower upper deck in my opinion outweighs the cons and is better then watching a game with binoculars.

It's just terrible. Everyone talks about how it was somehow needed because it gets oh so hot here, but it gets just as hot in Atlanta and the Braves have never needed an indoor stadium. And oh look - the Braves continue to be the best team in baseball playing out in the heat while the Rangers are enduring a collapse I was told by everyone would never happen again once they got air conditioning. Doesn't help that the owners hate baseball and baseball fans and have made the place as not fun as possible.
