  • Automobili Lamborghini is a 1997 racing video game developed and published by Titus Software for the Nintendo 64. It is a successor to their earlier Lamborghini American Challenge.

It's jerky, annoying, nearly uncontrollable, and yet somehow still loads of fun. A perfect representation of Lamborghini as a brand.

Hey Glenn, did you know that this is actually a 4MB game? Yeah, Titus was way too cheap to even use the standard, tiny 8MB carts that all the early N64 games used. In the 300+ N64 library there are 13 games that used a 4MB cart.
    Asteroids Hyper 64
    Automobili Lamborghini
    Batman Beyond
    Charlie's Blast Territory
    Dr Mario 64
    Iggy's Recking Balls
    Jeopardy
Midway's Greatest Arcade Hits Volume 1
    Milo's Astro Lanes
    Namco Museum 64
    Virtual Chess 64
    Virtual Pool 64
    Wheel of Fortune
As you can see, all games except Lamborghini and Batman are limited in scope so i suppose there is an excuse for them to use a smaller than minimum cart size (still a cheap move though, especially for the TV show games than need voice acting and digitized graphics). But there is no excuse for Titus to use this size for a freaking modern racing game (at the time). I suppose its the best looking 4MB game of the bunch but come on, that was a very cheap move from Titus.

Automobili Lamborghini is one of the BEST racing games of the N64, the quality of this game is really high, the game has great gameplay, great sound, gorgeous graphics and the game doesn't even use the expansion pack! The game was really ahead for a 1997 game

This game was my official induction into racing games. 20+ years later I still love racing and have moved on to sim racing. I have to say, though, I can't believe this game was able to pull off a decent pit stop experience when, in 2019, we still have games failing to do the same!

This was probably my favorite racer on the N64 with ExciteBike 64. I still have the cartridge with the original "Automobili Lamborghini". I really enjoyed playing it with my brother and cousin, epic battles. Awesome times and memories, it was probably the multiplayer we enjoyed and played most. Maybe not the best overall, BUT as others said when it came out there was any other race title that could beat this in graphics and realism. If you happened to be Italian or a Lambo fan you could not resist getting this. It also had a really cool soundtrack imo.
Really nice and impartial job as always Glenn, thanks for the great memories

One of my favorites on N64, I loved unlocking the cars and searching for the best jumps/shortcuts. With multi-player we would have 1 person be the "robber" and the rest go ahead and wait until the robber started, then we would do our best to wreck and box in the criminal, then take turns seeing how many laps we could put in.

Holy jeez, I loved this game back in the day. I played the hell out this, both in SP & MP. It is also one of the few console games my mother enjoyed and played, and still remembers fondly.
My favorite arcade racer on N64 would have to be Cruisn' World, although I did enjoy other series like extreme-G, Mario Kart, and of course Automobili Lamborghini. I played San Francisco Rush 2049 later in lice, but still found it to be a fun game.

Did you notice how incredibly twisty the track is to hide the draw distance pop up?
But speaking of Titus, did they ever release Blues Brothers 64? I remember seeing a lot of that in previews.
Racing games, I love Diddy Kong, Wave Race and Crusin' USA. those were my faves.

    • @DieHardjagged

    • @TekMoliGy
      @TekMoliGy 9 лет назад +4

***** yea i noticed how twisty it is too and i thought it was to hide the draw distance but if you watch closely there are some straight aways that show up fine so maybe they just made the tracks super twisty just from bad track design.

Just feels like such bad track design when the corners are so tight the car can't get around them without basically stopping and it's multiple right angles straight after one another continually.

I remember renting this and playing for HOURS to get the tracks just right so I could keep up. At one point, I actually yelled at the game in frustration (thus waking up my little brother), and discovered it was midnight... I'd consider this one of my favs, as well as Top Gear Overdrive, and Rush 2049. Though I was a big racing gamer, so I liked most, if not all of them haha.

The great thing about this game is that it can be picked up for next to nothing. It might not be anything special but it has all the hallmarks to be enjoyed in a good arcade racing game. Smooth control, high speeds and a rock-solid framerate. For those same reasons, and the first-class Nintendo polish, F- Zero X is my favourite racer on the N64.

Wish I found this channel much earlier because at the age of 12 I returned a $30 N64 that came nearly brand new with the box and all! I rebought one (unfortunately at a much higher price) and now can enjoy these games. That is, if I can afford them.

Mario Kart 64 because it was the premiere multiplayer racer, but if I knew anybody that could put up a competent race in a game, it'd either be WaveRace 64 or Top Gear Rally. Wave Race was a very personal 2p racer, with bumping being the only aggressive actions you can take, but with huge consequences (missing a jump/buoy), and Top Gear Rally having arcade elements similar to Ridge Racer 64, but without the learning curve of getting the drift timing immaculate if you want to take a corner quickly, but with the sense of breakneck speed you can accomplish the somewhat realistic approach to a course.
Great video! At the time, for me this was a rental and a stinker.

The Japanese version of this game, called Super Speed Race 64, offers improved graphics and effects, working headlights, night racing, and different weather patterns. Very much in the same vein as Top Gear Rally. This game, the American release, while solid, would have certainly been a "must buy" title if it had come with the improvements of the Japanese version.

Re-Volt, XG2, Top Gear Overdrive & World Driver Championship all top the list for me. Re-Volt was the one I put the most time into, but I love them all so much that I could never rank one above the other, as they're so good at what they do in my opinion. Funnily enough, though, I have never actually beat World Driver Championship. I started playing it again about a month ago and I'm close to that point, but I've been slacking it again. The N64 was definitely one of the very best eras for racing games.

Oh yeah, I've definitely played Beetle Adventure Racing. When I was younger, I called it a guilty pleasure because it was Beetles; I thought I might be the only person liking the game, and that its mechanics were just quirky and that others might find it bad. All these years later, I find out that the game was actually very highly received. The Egyptian track will always be one of the greatest track designs in racing history, in my opinion. Hell, they were all amazing. Brilliant game.

My favourite arcade racer on n64 has to be Beetle Adventure Racing, I bought it on impulse for 5 euro complete in box.

Favorate arcade style racing game on the Nintendo 64? Hard to say, Cruis'n World is the only one I have played and own on an actual N64. Based on videos I've seen and having played the arcade version, Rush Extreme Racing San Francisco will probably be my favorate once I pick it up.
It's funny, despite being my first system, I think the N64 is the console I have the least amount of games for. Even my Sega Genesis has more games at this point, and I only got that running 6 months ago! Guess I do have fewer for my DS, but traded some Nerf to a friend for it just so I could play Advance Wars, so I haven't even touched the 3 other games he gave me.

Looking at this the biggest problem for me is the weird look of the back of the car. It's almost like its stretched and squished, unless that's the widescreen mode causing problems!

I would need to give it one more try, but last time I check I felt very unconfortable with the game controls and cars physics. Maybe I should go a little further in the game to get used with it. My favorite arcade game on N64 in Roadsters, but I never played Beetle Adventure Racing and Ridge Racer so far.

I ended up getting this game from a friend (who also gave me F1 World Grand Prix and Mario Party) as he was getting rid of his N64. Did give this a big go and I do admit I had some fun with it, though I wasn't too huge on the rotating map as it was off putting.

I picked this game up based on this review. I really enjoy it. The only thing I don't like are the pit stop minigames. I don't feel they add anything to the experience and would rather just get back in the race. That said, I do like the fact that parts wear out and that you need to refuel. I just wish it was automatic in the pits.

I used to rent this game alot. I knew there were better racing games out there at the time but I liked this game for some reason. But my all time favourite was top gear rally.

not sure if you've covered world driver championship at all so far but i expect you will be covering that at some point if you haven't already ;), i consider it the best racing game on the n64 along with beetle adventure racing.

I remember vividly the day I got this game.early in the morning, I got up about 5 and played Mario 64 before the sun came up, for some reason the cart broke. Later that day, when my grama and uncle woke up, we went to the swap-meet and my grama gave me a ten dollar bill. I was about 7 at the time, so of course they didn't let me off by myself, but my grama decided that I had been a good enough kid to deserve spending money. I got Oot at one stand for 3 dollars. putting the 7 dollars in ones back into my pocket felt really good. a few stalls down, I wanted to get dk64 but some kid snatched it out of my hands, and it was a good thing too, because i didn't have an expansion pack. at the next stall I found this game and decided to buy it, It just seemed like a no brainer to me, and looked like the best out of his wide selection of n64 carts. I remember always naming myself "Rusty" when i played the game, I have no idea what my mind was thinking.
My fave arcade racer on n64 is most definitely Hot wheel's turbo racing, it was one of the first games i got for my n64, in fact, I got it before i could read so it took me several attempts to get the main menu and I loved it to death. I played it every chance i got through out elementary school. I might just have nostalgia glasses for it, but seriously a game I could sit down and play anytime. I remember always going and unlocking the "formula 5000" car right after switching it on and racing as that car, it was my favorite one. I remember once letting my good elementary school friend borrow it after noticing how alike it was to an arcade racer at Odyssey one (the local chucky cheese-esque party center that hosts like birthdays and stuff) and he enjoyed it as much as I did.

Diddy Kong Racing is by far my favorite racing game but other top choices would be Wave Race 64, F-Zero X, Mario Kart 64 and Cruis'n World/USA/Exotica.

For me it would be Rush 2: Extreme Racing USA, I always loved the huge Variety in Tracks, Cities and Cars, it just had an Insane amount of content.
But Automobili Lamborghini was a nice game too, however it felt way too slow for me and I never really new how the minigame for the fuel really was supposed to work.

I think Automobili Lamborghini is, in fact, the full name of the company.
That said, the Arcade Pro set was a real headache, especially track 6. Whatever you do, whether you're using Novice or Expert handling, don't use manual transmission in that set; you'll time out on track 6 just short of the finish line, even if you never miss a shift.
I think one time I stalled out past the switchbacks, otherwise that's where I'd end up.

Can't help but feel most games on 90s consoles are what we would consider an "arcade" game on newer consoles. Except with full dev teams instead of a handful of people.

Why would you be surprised they allowed Titus to take the reigns lol? I hardly doubt Lambourghini reputation rested in the hands of an N64 game, pretty sure Lambourghini's market isn't the videogame market.

No, however in terms of a brand retaining the high quality, premium luxury opinion of it never helps to be associated with a poor quality product with its name on it.
