Things to consider replacing on your Nissan 300ZX/Fairlady Z from day one, besides the obvious Timing Beit and other major repairs. T-Top Ends: www.blasterzgarage.com
The Z32 isn’t for everyone as some younger folk have made the mistake of buying one and soon to find the car is very delicate and requires a lot TLC and knowledge of it’s engine and components that’s why you see lots of them give up and post a part out sell on offerup or eBay, smh 🤦♂️
It's always with great respect to view to a z32 TT, where the owner clearly loves his car & has proved his love by spoiling her with tlc. Your z32's engine bay is genuinely a 'vission of absolute beauty'. Thanks for sharing. In my humble opinion, a 32 TT's as a daily drive cost less to maintain than any modern car if they were maintained properly from factory ....... or ..... after being properly rebuilt.
I had a false trigger condition on mine due to a rotten connector. It worsened to a turn no-start condition. Turns out he cam sensor didn't trigger, thus the engine couldnt know which cycle its on. The local mechanics here doesn't specialize in nissans, and obviously either doesn't understand nissan triggers, or they tried to scam me. Everyone told me the plugs are being fouled and the bottom end needs a rebuild. I decided fuck it, got myself some electronic equipment and started my own diagnostic. Instantly picked up that injectors weren't being triggered and spark event is 100% fine. Took the multimeter to the cam angle sensor and there you go. It never received 12v. Of the three mechanics I saw, none of them even mentioned CAS. I had people telling me to replace throttle bodies, TPS, MAF ect. Basically just open my wallet and throw parts at the thing. Which I hate doing. Bitches tried charging me $1000 for a $10 diagnostic, when I made it clear I'll try the rebuild myself first, they tried selling me on parts I don't need. And still charged me $100 for the inspection. They even billed me for "diagnostic and repair" when they got it started eventually (fitted new plugs and probably fiddled with the connectors a bit, and got a wet connection) , I told them if I have to tow the car back into this shop I'm making a court case, and instantly the bill went down to $15 plus the plugs. And 2 days later I had the exact same non-start condition. First they tell me the motor needs a rebuild, then upsells me on part, then pretend nothing is wrong anymore once they realized im definitely not buying their bullshit or ever bringing the car back with good intent. When I bumped into the mechanic at the shops I told him the car is non-running again, and he went back to "you need a motor rebuild", so I rolled my eyes and walked away. I rebuilt the motor anyway after the problem was sorted out. I was going to replace every gasket and seal anyway, figured I might as well open the bottom end while I'm down there (big mistake). The bottom end never even rubbed through its honing marks. The oil control rings were working perfectly and I never picked up any compression losses before opening her up. So that motor did 240 000km of hard driving and never even glazed the cylinder walls. The valves were shot tho, with some nasty blow-by, just needed to be lapped. But other than that, the motor had no issues. These motors aren't unreliable. people are. 30yo electronics are. Bottom line, know your own engine better than anyone else. That knowledge is priceless. P.S. my protip when working on any 300zx. Cut off half of your hands, ur only gonna be able to use 2 fingers to do anything anyway, the rest will just be in the way XD
Timing belt service (not cheap) Fuel lines IACV Coil pack connectors Vacuum hoses Connectors in general Xenon led headlights (not cheap) I'd like to add: ALL the fluids Injectors (upgrade to phase 2, not cheap) Fuel filter Air filter
i been having trouble passing emissions due to exhaust emissions. just changed my timing belt & spark plugs going to try again soon i also need to look for a vacuum leaks
Change PCV valve, make sure your oxygen sensors are good....anything to do with emissions should be checked......They canceled the emissions test here in Ontario Canada 🇨🇦.
@@TheZ-XFiles i’ve tried to get the nissan data scan app to hook up to the car to check everything like the o2 sensor & what not but couldn’t ever get it to connect
I do have a spare plenum that I have been considering for just such a project. Due to the lack of facilities and weather change, it will have to wait a bit.

Agreed.....some people also buy them and after a while sell them, then regret that they got rid of them. I hear that quite often as well.
👍
Good Luck With Your Z ! I Am 15 And Just Got My TT i love it sm.
Great stuff....Good to hear that....take care of your Z. We will do some more videos when the weather warms up. Thanks for checking out the video.
Those clear timing covers are neat.
Indeed! You can keep an eye on the timing belt.

Thank you, and you're welcome. Good maintenance is important to have a troubled free experience. 👍 Agreed.
Where would you recommend to getting the paint job for 1990 zx, I live your silver pa8nt job?
The paint is mostly originally, the last shop that did some Fender work and some paint on the car was "Ink & Iron, in Oakville.....

I do as much as I can on my car to avoid others screwing up anything. I am not a mechanic, but I learn and fix....
@@TheZ-XFiles If it weren't for people like you these scams would be more prevalent. Thank you for your contribution, and a really great video.
Motors beautiful bro...! Treet her good...!
Thank You......doing just that!
Clean looking engine bay, had 90. Zxtt the problem is engine bay just to busy and cluttered. But great cars
A pain to work on, but the overall experience of ownership has been positive for me.
You missed something, removing motor and putting an SR20 in lol,
LOL.....You know I am not a fan of four cylinder engines.....dont like high note exhaust.....six cylinders and up Bro.
I respect people's build even if it is a 4 cylinder, but for my cars......6 and up I like high torque and the deeper exhaust note.
Timing belt service (not cheap)
Fuel lines
IACV
Coil pack connectors
Vacuum hoses
Connectors in general
Xenon led headlights (not cheap)
I'd like to add:
ALL the fluids
Injectors (upgrade to phase 2, not cheap)
Fuel filter
Air filter
Nothing is cheap....but doing some things yourself definitely helps.....big jobs are budgeted for, but most little things I will do..
At the end of the day.....do what you can afford to do to at least keep your car running.
@@TheZ-XFiles I 100% agree, I try to do as much work as I can on my own Z32 to keep costs down. I just wanted to add to your video.
I appreciate 🙏 your input....Thanks!
Nice and clean. We have same that car from Japan. I am Honda civic

What’s the name of the app for the manual on the App Store
It is called Z32 Service Manual.......it still on my phone, but I can't seem to find it in the play store from my end anymore.
Love the clear tb covers🖒
Great way to keep tabs on the Timing Belt.

@@TheZ-XFiles yeah im going to give it a deep clean hopefully won’t have to buy a new one
@@TheZ-XFiles i’ve tried to get the nissan data scan app to hook up to the car to check everything like the o2 sensor & what not but couldn’t ever get it to connect
Those old cars are OBD1 Newer cars are OBD2 , so the connection isn't not the same, if that is what you are referring to.
@@TheZ-XFiles yeah i know i have an adapter to connect the obd1 to an android then you can pull up a bunch of info through an app
Nice video! Getting ready to do my timing belt !
Try to get the Gates blue Kevlar belt....it is supposed to be stronger than stock.....I will upgrade to that Kevlar belt, the next time I do mine.
Awesome video. It will help a lot of begiiner enthusiasts like myself, thank you.
Thanks for the compliments.....we will do more videos after the winter ends...
Great video and great looking Z!
Thanks for the positive feedback...
Looking good! Yes definitely important tips. A wonderful looking engine/bay!
Thanks Bro....lots of work to get looking as it is.
@@TheZ-XFiles please help me? I'm sick i need someone to help not a lot of work.
Mey refresh my ztt for my son
Omg that plenum is beautiful! Thats a very nice engine bay my friend! The gold standard.
Thank You....Polishing was challenging, but well worth the end result
Great advice... Very nice looking Zed!
Thank You....Appreciate the feedback.
Keep the content coming
Thanks for your support....we will certainly do that.
How much hp?
Unknown....it is still a work in progress....not much power mods yet.
Nice care. Good foundations for whatever u choose to do with the car
Appreciate the content! Can you do one on polishing the plenum?
I do have a spare plenum that I have been considering for just such a project. Due to the lack of facilities and weather change, it will have to wait a bit.
Its a huge job, most polishing places wont touch it for less than 250 afaik
@@meqamarcial I have done it three times, so far......and it is quite the task as you know...
That's a clean Z man! I used to have a 94 TT. I don't miss working on that car.
I understand your point completely when it comes to the engine, but I wouldn't LS swap or otherwise.
These are things to check for, other than the obvious Timing belt change and other major repairs.
