- Two humongous First Rates battle it out, side by side, fighting over the seas. This is a replay of a 1 v 1 ship battle that shows the realism and intensity of what empire total war brings to the player in its sea battles.
IraqiKid(Britain) vs. Dmanbiker(France)
The only thing I didn't like about naval battles in this game was the "combatant losing slightly" thing. I had a pirate galleon vs a brig and it was about one broadside away from death, and the galleon was clean as can be. Still said I was losing
this game is amazing, when you pit gigantic armies against one another you really feel like youre actually there with them leading them to victory
Its nothing like other RTS games but it's definitely one that will help develop skills for other games. Personally, I think it's because of this game that I succeed at many others. The strategy that is involved can be put to use in almost every other game since positioning is the key to winning every battle.
8:50 I love how he stabs the guy to death with an empty hand.
I never watched it that close. That is awesome!
I liked the shaky cam, it gave it a documentary feeling.
I looked it up. British Admiral Horatio Nelson said, "No captain can do very wrong if he places his ship alongside that of the enemy." Take that advice. Line up your ship to go beside the enemy and turn at the last second. You do more hull damage by hitting the front or back of a ship. That's why the computer turns when you turn. Also, use larger ships to take damage and use faster ships to hit the front and back of your enemy.
what you need right now is Russell Crow at the stern of the British ship screaming, " !!MAKIN MOVIES, MAKIN SONGS, FIGHTIN WOUND THE WORLD !! " .
"Frenchies here, Frenchies there,
Frenchies seek him every where
Is he in Heaven,
or is he in Hell?
That Damned Elusive Pimpernel."
Sorry, couldn't resist.
I was like you once, but then the game had a quote in a loading screen that helped me to win. I don't remember exactly what it said, but basically, a British admiral once said, A Naval captain can't do much wrong if he brings his ship beside the enemy.
Just looked in comment and saw an argument between a German and a GB about the histories of each others countries and i can help but feel the need to say that we should both be proud of our history. As a fellow history loving GB i am proud of what my country achieved such as the British empire during the period this game is set and the things we have created and are famous for such as long bows and Yorkshire puddings. ((CONTINUED IN NEXT POST)
All that battle lacked was Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and cursed Aztec gold.
so what? it's still one of the absolute best strategy games at the moment, i can still spend weeks building up empires and destroy the others or just play with a small faction and survive the world with Empire Total Factions mod, really, they did a hell of a good job making this wonderful game! :)
Empire: Total War is pretty old at this point, though extremely playable. The newest Total War release was Fall of the Samurai, which is a stand-alone expansion to the previous full game in the Total War series, Shogun 2. The other main DLC for the game was Rise of the Samurai, though it doesn't have nearly as much attention as the other two portions of the game.
I noticed what you said about Che Guevera, I agree, it makes me sick when I see people idolizing him. In my opinion the worst thing about him is that I read in the Cuban missile crisis he wanted the Soviets to go ahead and launch their missiles, and he was furious when they didn't do it. He was a total nutcase, if he had his way we would have had a nuclear war, and the world would have been sent back to the stone age.
What a good idea, and on the campaign map, showing to your little brother how to upgrade your concentration camp to increase your ammo production and prevent revolt.
been looking for a gameplay for the past 5 minutes and this game seems like a movie not a game
At this age the spanish fleet was AWESOME
Ok
Lol
handsome boss all day Not as good as Britain’s though.
People typically do not idolise him but that he stood true to his ideals and stood up to the castros. However most people who do this seem to forgot the rest of his life story.
yea my computer sucks so i never was able to experience the battle with this high of quality picture.
I love how half the guys on the boat are looking the wrong way...
I love how ships in this game just fuck up their entire hull but they are stull completely fine just 73% of our hull is down. And we lost 3 masts but we can still take em on :3 But i still LOVE this game
You can pick up Rome Total War with the Barbarian expansion and the Alexander add-on for £10, get that too. Best of the series, even to this day. Hence why they're re-making it :)
No - Empire: Total War, was the first game in the Total War series, that allowed you to have real time naval battles.
WWII Total War? That would be cool. Command soldiers, tanks, artillery, etc. in the ground war. Epic naval battles with Battleships, Destroyers, and Carriers. Air Battles with Fighters trying to intercept Bombers, while enemy fighter escorts attempt to protect them--all while AA bursts all around. Damn.
have you seriously never heard of empire or napoelon total war, it's AWESOME!
love it how they put the planks down and half of them jump it "fuck this shit"
Should've crossed the "T" on him (crossing the "T" means that you pull your ship in front of him broadsiding the front or rear of his ship with all of your guns, while forcing him to only be able to use only the front or back of his guns this is a tactic that has been used for centuries and will devastate an enemy ship)
I like how they leap up into the air and over a ten foot gap onto the other ship.
@crematio To be honest, your comment actually compelled me to recreate my fights. There are actually mods for this game that make it more realistic, adding tons of smoke and balancing units. I actually just finished a couple battles with a buddy that contain these mods and plan on re-uploading this fight. :) Fortunately for me, my computer can handle the intensity. Come back later and see if I did a little better with the visuals.
The battle of Trafalgar in Napoleon: Total War is really great.
Battle was yours at 2:00. One broadside to the stern and the frog can kiss 60% of his artillery goodbye.
@Jonj57 When people say realism, they mean visuals. Not many people talk in terms of actually game play. That's the message the title is meant to give.
@MineFutures firefights don't last that long the taliban fires, 1 or 3 bullets manages to hit the humvee and run off. Then it takes like 5-10 sec for a quick sitrep and get out return fire and continue patrol it's rare to find a firefight lasting more than 2 minutes.
From what I understand from his comment, he said that because the one who asked the question sounds like he won't play it if he can't get the good graphics.
@crematio It's not a game designed for realism, games are made for fun and escapism. In videogames 'Realism' is taking 5 years to reach the nearest star, doing menial tasks in a warzone and getting killed by a surprise mortar bombardment or having the battle won years before by training methods, supply lines and weapons technology. Since I want to get to Alpha Centauri in the few hours of spare time I have a day we can't have a 'realistic' game in this sense, so we make a compromise.
At 8:06 they were like "Dude, stop being so dramatic, jeez."
i was downloading the demo from steam when i was watching dis i couldnt wait until the download was finished
So do I. I love the campaignmap and the special units in Empire. Napoleon is only about the Napoleonic wars, while Empire is about the rising empires over the whole world.
you have done some tactical mistakes:
1) when behind the enemy, having bow guns, you should load bar shot to slow him down, and decrease his maneuverability.
2) cross behind a ship with loaded guns and you deliver a "raked broadside", you fire guns while passing causing maximum damage, even though in E:TW it only causes max casualties.
3) at close range you should fire grapeshot rounds, to diminish the enemy crew before boarding.
nice vid :)
@crematio (He said it was on low details) First off, the cannon balls are used to blast holes in the side of the ship to send shrapnel in the the gun crews be hind the bulkheads... so the that explains the holes. Second, Its a game... It's not going to be 100% acccurate... just like modern warefare when you can take 10 bullets and still be running around killing other people....,and Finally, they didn't use boarding nets till the late 18th century.... Ps.... The oddly dressed men are marines.
2:05 The English miss a great opportunity to rake the French by the stern! Maybe their gun crews need to be faster at reloading...
6:22 Love the grapeshot!
Although Spain, the Netherlands, and France built huge fleets, and in France's case even with better ships, they were rarely able to match the skill of British naval crews. British crews excelled, in part, because they spent much more time at sea, were generally better fed, were well trained in gunnery (allowing a faster rate of fire), and were generally more competent.
I reckon medium/high. A strong medium is probably the best guess. You'll definitely be able to run it.
@crematio this game has a mod called Darth mod. wich adds tons and tons of smoke to sea battles and allot of smoke and flashes to musket fire aswell
I wish there was a Total War set where theres Planes... So you can have a custom Air Battle... Would be pretty neat :)
I figured shadow was saying that to make fun of super for "hurr hurr u computer neeerrrd"
Guy in white : "Nyehehe!" *hits Guy in White with musket*
Guy in Red : "oof! Ow! ouch! Owie!!!" *dies*
Guy in white : "Ummm..mkay..." *goes into Guy in Red's cabin to take his stuff*
ahhh the days when Total war naval battles made sense..(not to mention fun)
they were bludgeoning each other with bits of wood lol, no wonder it took so long. also the men appeared to be spider mans brothers the way they were jumping lol
I'd say it's all about what experience you want. Empire is a really massive game with a lot of playtime value, but has less replay value and less people playing multiplayer. Shogun 2 has a lot of replay value, and from both "halves". If you want a slight upper-hand in Shogun 2 multiplayer, I'd recommend Fall of the Samurai, however, the payoff for making a really great army in regular Shogun 2 with tons of time and effort can make a much better army. Plus, the AI is SLIGHTLY better in Shogun 2.
PART 3: Overall we can both be proud f what our nations have achieved. Such as Arminius a Germanic tribesman who led the Germanic tribes to a heroic victory over the roman empire in the Battle Of Teutoburg Forest in 9AD. He was one of many Germans which prevented Rome form ever taking over Germany which is a pretty big achievement. So overall we should be proud f who we are and where we come from and stop disrespecting each other out f spite or whatever. just accept we're both successful nations
True. Also, I believe beach landings and airborne units should be added in too.
Yes you're right, because it's so much like the Total War series.
@crematio I totally agree with you. It's why I have modified the uniform of the french and the english, to be more realistic...
Yup, played them both, awesome games...steep learning curve but awesome
like the way, when boarding they just casually wonder over to the enemy lol, it does the same on Napoleon total war
Very nice game. I just noticed that at scene 00:16, the mizzen mast shrouds and ratlines seem to be piercing the sail.
This game is completely different. They each take a completely different kind of skill to play. Empire takes tactics, planning, and an immense amount of multitasking whereas Battlefield is literally the opposite. Instead of controlling thousands of men, you are one guy that looks where your mouse is. And don't comeback with some ridiculous remark like "you would suck at battlefield" because I happen to be very good at both of these games. :)
these graphics were set on medium fer sure, and the graphics already look awesome!
8:08
French Capitaine : No f*ck was given that day
Only in AC3 there are better naval battles than in Empire.
I wish they make another Sid Meyer's Pirates with this kind of astonishing battles :D
Yes that would be good too but when I think of World War I, it's mostly trench warfare with the front lines barely changing. Every meter costs literally hundreds of lives. So it would be interesting how the Total War devs can translate that into a game.
Somewhat true although I'm sure many of the troops standing with Wellington would have argued the point. The Prussians only came to Waterloo because of Bluchers faith in Wellington and his ability to fight a defensive battle. It's for sure that Britain defeated Napoleon through the use of alliances. There was no other way. And it was not Europeans killing each other as there was no unified Europe at the time and they didn't envision themselves as Europeans.
I played medieval total war for 2 years before i got tired of it so Thats my recomndation XD
Nice filming, I gues the lesson was to canister just before closing, that might have evened up the odds
Good to hear you backed off, you just turned hostile.
Nice filming dude :D
Rise Of Flight, WW1 aviation, free game, you just need to buy planes ( you start with 2 plane ) the community also gives away planes for free quite often.
I actually saw him and he managed to jump back onto his ship
Most of the people who idolize him do it because he's a symbol of rebellion or whatever, but I also feel that a lot of those people are kind of ignorant and don't read to much about him. In my opinion, the fact that he wanted to start a nuclear war completely negates whatever ideas he may have had. The way I see it, a nuclear war would have killed tens of millions of people at the very least, so he was definitely not a man of the people.
plus it took 45+ minutes for the large ships just to circle back after a cannon volley
people in the past must be damned smart to maneuver a ship powered only by winds...
nice idea!it would be great and change total war history in online games forever
Great video, I believe you captured what most people would like to see of the naval battles from this game. But for future reference, try not to shake the camera so much, I understand the cinematic effect you were trying to make with it but it didn't look natural and it was too much. Awesome video though, thank you.
Boarding the French ship was a stupid and reckless decision that lost the battle.
I can't believe the British ship continually attempted to broadside the French ship. Had I been in control of either of the ship I would have used chain to destroy the other ship's masts, sails and rigging; and then closed in and used grape shot to take out the crew.
Would love to see Roma II, although nothing beats the 17th century naval warfare
Amn, this looks so sweet, It would be so awesome if Ubisoft realeased a Naval Battle multiplayer mode dlc for AC3. But since that wont be happening, this will do
Rome Total War was my favourite, and the best Total War game ive played so far. but i guess its all taste and opinions. Rome 2 Total war is coming in 2013 aswell.
that is because it is upto the player, some british ships (106 guns) are better than 120 gun + ships of other navies
wow! that was just one ship on each team?! i can't imagine 20 ships vs 20 ships! i bet its really glitchy...
Empire Total War is different from a ton of other RTS games in that there is no base building and it has less to do with spamming/overrunning your enemy with numbers and more about both the grand and tactical aspects of battles, monitoring their formation, morale, fatigue, ammo, and what not. Given that, it's STILL a very easy game to learn and play. The only problem is that the online community for Empire sucks, bad, it's full of people who make up rules so that they can win.
You can actually get a view from the gundecks of the ship by pressing the insert key
@ThePistons4life Look it up. This is empire: total war. So far 2 more games have come out. Napoleon: Total war and Shogun 2: total war.
I died due to the awesomeness of this game
I have an athlon II X2 @ 3.2Ghz and a discrete HD7750. I could run this at all high settings with shadows, water, trees at medium and @ 1080p. I get about 35-60 fps. But I have to disable HDR,set volumetric effect to low ,no DoF. With my settings, it doesn't look as good as this video. The last 3 options that I described are what really makes the game look so good.
I'm betting he's doomed to float in the waters for eternity.
It's me and you've crossed the stern 2 times. But good demostration.
Britain historially won by being better trained, and used very different tactics. Whilst the french prefered to sit at range and attempt to destroy masts, the brits got in close and pounded the enemy gun decks into oblivion.
theres a possibility to have sea battles in RTW soon. a mod is atm developing sea battles in it
Seen the AC3 naval battle gameplay ?..looks pretty fucking awesome.
i had this game for some months but never really played after watching i thing i might have to start
this is Empire total war a old game after him has come Napoleon total war,Shogun 2 Total war, shogun 2 rise of samurai, shogun 2 fall of samurai and i think will come WW1 Total War
empire is pretty easy to get accustomed to but it wont help you much in the RTS field cause empire is a turn based strat for the most part. it can get complicated but it is still easy to manage.
In medieval 2 you have ships but when your ships fight their is only auto resolve which you cant see because the computer does a statistical analyses of how strong your forces are compared to the enemies force and does a calculation of percentage and makes a fraction and i guess rolls a die to see what happens and then it does the calculation for the casualties for both the forces
Sea battles appeared in Empire, Napoleon, Shogun 2.
This video was the first time i see this game. X)
Im getting it today... Who cares if its an old game. It looks fun and a different type of a game to warfare out rthere.
It would be alot more complicated to play though, armies these days dont move in large groups through an open battlefield. They move in small groups of about 6-12. Micromanaging all of them at once and trying to not get them killed would be a pain in the arse but i think they could pull it off somehow
You got "Napoleon: Total War" that's allmost like "Empire:Total War" Victorian age. :)
