I found Matt Halperns live plays a few years ago after hearing P4 for the first time and had the same reaction as you 😂. One of the GOATS of the underground metal scene. Man is simply inspirational , and is also just a great dude in general. Love your content. Thanks for having a great ear it's very fun to watch!
Got to meet Matt and get a lesson from him in 2016. He's a super chill, generous guy that's exactly who you'd think he'd be based on his playing. Glad you enjoyed watching him do his thing. He's one of my favorites.
I met Misha a few months ago, he’s exactly the same way. Super chill, easy to talk to person. I played guitar for him for a few mins, and he also said I’m really good too, which was awesome to hear.
Satellites is my favourite playthrough with Matt. So on point and tastefull with all his fills. So much heart and feelings. It's so inspiring to watch.
You need to check out his playthrough of Dracul Gras from Periphery V. 10 minutes of insanity. Either that or any playthrough from Mike Malyan of Monuments. Man is a monster beyond comparison.
I once read a comment about Matt that said something along the lines of "his symbols alone tell a story" and I still constantly think of that while listening to Periphery.
Love all the reactions Steve! One of the few reactors I am genuinely excited to watch, even for bands or songs I'm unfamiliar with. Grabted I'm biased towards Periphery ;)
For me personally the three best drummers in the modern metal game right now are Matt Halpern, Matt Garstka and Matt Greiner, it‘s alsmost as if there‘s something to this name😅 I immediately noticed the drumming when I discovered Periphery, which happened to be very late with Hail Stan but Matt‘s drumming blew my mind right away, especially with Satellites, Lune, Heavy Heart and The Bad Thing. Not to say there aren‘t other S-Tier drummers like Jay Postones, Danny Carey, Mike Portnoy & Mangini, but those 3 Matts made me go and buy myself my first drumkit at 25 years of age.
Matt Halpern is amazing. Through and through. I highly recommend doing something from Blake Richardsom, the drummer of Between The Buried and Me. He recently did a Drumeo live so there are plenty of songs to pick from, but that dude is absolutely insane. IMO the best drummer alive right now.
This whole kit sounds like pure bliss! "Deceptively straight forward" might be one of the truest statements about his drumming, especially when including his work in King Mothership, where he plays a lot more straight-forward rock stuff. You can always hear his own style through anything though, such a distinct way of playing!
Periphery releases the best play throughs . can't wait for you to watch guitar videos , they have 3 guitarists that are all masters and write very different songs inside the periphery box Sentient glow Marigold Thanks 🙏 Btw their songs rarely Repeat , even if it sounds like it , constant changes
Thanks so much for the review!! I really appreciate it!
You're a beast dude keep it up 🤘🤘
An absolute pleasure! This is truly wonderful stuff 👏🏻
dude you are awesome. periphery is easily my favorite band.

@@AidenCantrell Misha seems super chill, too. Glad you had a good experience!

Get some popcorn as it's long 🤣🤣

He truly gets happiness from his craft. How many of us can say that

I love both Blake and Matt.

This is my personal favourite off P4. Definitely a funky tune. The guitar riffs fit so well with the drums so you’ve gotta hear the studio version!
Thanks Steve ❤
Hi Steve O'G, pretty sure the snare is a Van Kleef from memory. This is an amazing song :)
Jaysus that’s some deep knowledge! Impressive 👏🏻
if you haven’t had a chance yet, watch his drum playthrough of Satellites, it’s some of the cleanest, most in the pocket drumming i’ve ever seen
No symbol is a decoration for halpern.
Would be great to see you playing drums in videos!
You have to check out Dracul gras's drum play by Matt, that's even more impressive
Now for the ultimate question: who has the better sounding snare? Matt here, or II from Sleep Token? 🤔🤔🤔
Fuuuuuuu..... I need time to mull that one haha.
I hate this question 😂
You’re welcome guys 🤣🤣🤣
This is much better than II's, much more body. I like cranked snares as much as the next guy but II's doesn't sound great IMO...
The way the news goes is the only song I've heard with clean ovals over a blast beat 🫨

Thanks 🙏

matt halpern is a very good drummer and underrated his style is abit like gospel but metal gospel lol and I think one of his best songs is ragnarok
Can I politely request a full album reaction to 156/silences’ new album. Hands down AOTY
I love a polite request. They are always welcome haha.
It’s on my to-do list ✅
Nothing much compared to Periphery's OG drummer, Travis Orbin.
most annoying type of comment lol
