You finally listened to my request! Best Periphery song by far!! Reptile and Dracul Gras next! Alpha/Omega (Juggernaut) are my favourite albums of all time and made me fall in love with concept albums!
The amount of talent within this band is insane, they are definitely up there with Meshuggah (my all time favorite band). Seen Periphery live once and they were amazing. 🤘🏻
I know for quite a while Misha said (I'm paraphrasing) that one track that was the best representation of Periphery is Stranger Things. It may be a different track now, but still is one of their best.
Still gotta check out Satellites by Periphery if you haven't heard it already, also Matt Halpern did a drum play through of it and its incredible to watch
Need to listen to Alpha & Omega in their entirety. Concept albums about a boy born into a murderous cult. He defects and wants to live a “normal” life, but can’t resist the urge to kill. He goes back to the cult & imprisoned there. He falls in love with a girl while imprisoned & she is sacrificed. He is enraged & escapes to retaliate against the cult leaders for killing her. The story ends on a cliffhanger with him leaving the mess behind again.
This has been my favorite song since it came out. Alpha/Omega are amazing albums and have so many motifs that carry throughout the double disc piece. I listened to these albums so damn much when they released as I had an hour drive to work every day. And YES, Matt Halpern is a fucking monster drummer. You should see some of his live drum playthroughs that he has done. One thing to note though is that Misha Mansoor, the main writer and guitar player, writes all the drum parts and then Matt plays and learns them and adds his own flair to them in the recording process.
Been my favorite band since their self titled in 2010. It’s cool you checked this out. The new album PV is a masterpiece for me. Just don’t go looking at the track lengths 😅
Periphery and Matt Halpern built the halls that every modern drummer has passed through since 2010. >90% of the modern drums we hear today came from the work of GGD Drums.
Matt Halpern never gets enough credit so thank you for giving him some. He's not a selfish drummer at all so he's not trying to stand out all the time, and a lot of his fills and enhancements to the songs are more subtle things that usually only drummers understand how creative and difficult it is He's easily one of the best metal drummers and imo the most versatile. I'd take him over any other drummer for almost any style of music. Except Tool, then I'd still take Danny Carey.
I agree re: the nasaly clean vocals, but the screams he does more than make up for it, for me anyway. I prefer Daniel Tompkins' (TesseracT) style cleans in this genre.
Tundra doing the lord's work on these recommendations as far as I'm concerned.
And he’s about to exceed himself by requesting Reptile…
It’s the Outro song to a two part Concept record so it’s quite a doozy on theatrics for sure. Periphery are the djent GOATS 👏🏻

"Reptile" is their best track.
That reaction is coming soon… 👀
but dracul gras busts speakers
Nah. Racecar, stranger things, Omega, then reptile.
You HAVE to listen to Wax Wings, I know you like Spencer's vocals and that song will blow you away
Not sure if you have listened to Satellites or Wax Wings from them yet. Both beautiful and powerful songs that really showcase Spencer's vocal range.
