Hi Devin - Thank you for sharing the tip to “snap” hanks before putting them on the swift. I’ve untangled some doozies over the years. So frustrating, and now easily resolved.
Karista taught a fun class at the 2023 retreat but my one on one interaction with her blew me away. It was over a meal, and before we parted she pulled out a notebook for me to sign and write my email address. Then she snapped a photo to include to save the memory. What a first impression! I’m cheering at the news that she’ll be at next year’s retreat!

Sunday afternoon, a cup of tea, knitting in my lap, and a KMP podcast. Perfect! I won’t be able to make it to the retreat, but I’ll try real hard for the next one and will be looking for pictures of you all! Yes, Karista’s class was loads of fun! And it has been so nice to interact on IG with people I now count as friends since meeting them in person.

Thank you for the snapping demo! In all my knitting and winding experience, I've never heard it explained quite like that - finding the ends, etc. Easy and brilliant.

Devin, thank you for including the note from Sharon. She is my studio sidekick, and such a pleasure to work with (not giving her up- sorry, not sorry 😁). She was so generous in her letter, and it greatly warmed my heart. I am blessed immensely by the yarn community and so many I get to interact with. Sharon is a gem, and I’m glad to have her working alongside me.

Devin I had to come back to this episode to say I wound 6 skeins of yarn this afternoon and snapped each one before I wound it. They each wound smoothly and easily into some of the most beautiful cakes of yarn I’ve ever made. Thanks for the awesome tip!

Devin, your podcast is always a delight. I can't wait to see how your tank turns out. I agree wholeheartedly with Sharon. Karista is such an amazing person - I'm so excited to hear she will be at the retreat!

What a good topic of the week! I had a messy skein just yesterday. Wish I had thought of doing this.

Thank you for the hint about snapping the skein! I have never heard that tip before. I always have a slight sense of dread whenever I go to cake up a skein because of the issue with the yarn strands not all lying in the same plane and then causing tangling issues coming off the swift. Most skeins are fine, but of course there are always those few that turn into a nightmare! Now I’m actually looking forward to doing my next one!

Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for the "snapping" trick! Last Sunday, I literally spent over 2 hours trying to untangle a terrible mess my yarn became as I was winding it. I did NOT want to cut it, but eventually had to, twice! I will definitely be snapping my skeins from now on!!

That was such a nice story about Karista! I had the opportunity to go to her amazing shop when we passed through Cody on vacation last summer, and we had the nicest visit :-) She has a gift for making you feel like a longtime friend....she's such a warm and welcoming person, I just love her! I can't wait to see everyone again at the retreat!!

I was so excited to get a spot in your retreat. I set an alarm and was ready and waiting to register promptly at noon EDT. I’ve never attended a retreat before nor do I have a local knit group so I’m super excited to meet fellow “just regular people” at your retreat as I am definitely “just regular”. Thanks for gathering us here each week to smile, laugh, and be encouraged. Hope your gathering at the winery was delightful!

I’m all about the therapy knitting provides. I just spent 3 nights in Lancaster General Hospital sleeping on a recliner (torture chamber) as my 23 year old daughter was being treated for post brain surgery complications. She had brain surgery January 14. Recovery is a long slow complicated process. To add insult to injury her husband of two years left her March 5 for his boss who is also a stripper (you can’t make this stuff up!)
Knitting kept me calm through the hours of watching my daughter suffer, praying for relief and interacting with internal medicine, neurosurgery and neurology as they adjusted medicines, did tests and evaluated progress.
While there I worked on my Emotional Support Chickens. If you haven’t seen this pattern, look it up. It’s just plain fun. I am making one in each yarn weight.
I was working on the one for my daughter while there. She needs all the emotional support she can get. Her soon-to-be ex-husband’s superpower is narcissism but she has family, friends and a church who rally round her and we will get her through this.
We are home now and she is on the road to recovery once again. And my recovery from extreme stress will continue with my knitting and my reliance on my loving Heavenly Father. Thanks for brightening my day after a very long and difficult weekend.

I am so bummed that I'm missing the local get-together today! We have out of town guests and are having a blast, but I so wanted to be with a new friend group of knitters! Hope you all have a great time, and I'll look forward to the next one. And can I just say SNAP IT! I never knew this would set the hank up for easy caking. Great tip, and one I will use from now on!

Devin, I know you will laugh at my story about the upcoming retreat. I was so excited when I heard it would be in Texas. I live in mid to west Texas. I have been knitting about five years but my friend just took her first class. You know they are a good friend when you ask them to go to a knitting retreat and they say sure. She did say if it was me asking you would you have gone after just knitting a book mark. 😂 So funny but we are both really excited.

Thanks for the Snapping tip. It seems that about 1/3 of the skeins I wind up have some kind of tangling issue. So easy when it goes well and oh so frustrating when it doesn't. I will try this soon.

So sorry I ruined your day, month, year with my Arne and Carlos color dominance comment. I am currently working on a “Thegither Cowl” by Amy Palko and am using the yarn placement in my left and right hands as she suggests in her pattern. I enjoy your Sunday podcasts and hope you have a great week with your lovely family. 😊

Good afternoon, I was wondering if a decision has been made about day passes to shop at the retreat? I live in Fort Worth, Tx, but since I will be attending the Arkansas Retreat I won’t be able to attend the retreat in Grapevine; but I could come over for a day to shop. Looking forward to meeting you in September at the Arkansas Retreat.

I love Petite Knit patterns and have perused her website a lot, but haven’t purchased a pattern yet because I can’t tell what weight of yarn each pattern calls for. Am I missing something? Can anyone tell me how to determine that from her descriptions?

    • @knittymcpurly1549
      @knittymcpurly1549  4 месяца назад

You have to google the yarn she recommends and see what weight it is. 😐 I know - it’s annoying. Designers should put the yarn they used and then say, “or another ______ weight yarn” so people don’t have to google.
