  • In this video I show a lot of images comparing the two versions of the Hasselblad X series cameras, the X2D with the older X1D mark ii. I also explain why I, for now, keep both cameras.

    For me, it would have been a $5000 jump to get that extra quality! I got a good deal on a used EX+ X1D II. For me it gets me in the game at a bargain price. I did get the XCD 45 P and away I went. I have gotten a second XCD lens for portrait work. The new firmware supports the V series so I now have a base platform to build on. Who knows when I trade up for a X2D in the future, but for now, I am happy and enjoying the experience of shooting this platform. Great review.

      Thanks for your comment. Happy to know that X1D/X1D actually fulfilled your needs. They are awesome cameras, and I'm still very happy with mine, although it primarily is a back-up camera.

    These are very good comparison shots. Thank you. TO be honest, even on 1080P screen at window mode, the difference is very visible and I didn't expect that level of difference between the two. I prefer the colors of the X2D over the X1D MKII.

      It's caused by the cropping in on a specific part of the image, then even on 1080p you'll be able to see the difference.

    Thank you for this very revealing comparison - the best I have seen between these two cameras! Can't wait for my X2D to arrive. Was considering adding an XCD 135 w/ TC, but cropping the XCD 120 may give me that extra bit of reach via cropping.

      Thanks a lot. I have had the same idea, but I have bought the new 90mm f2.5, though not arrived yet, and the 120mm is to close to my 90. Therefore, I also consider the 135mm, but so far I have been very satisfied with the Canon 135mm f2.0. But it might not have the resolution for the 100 mpx X2D.

      Be assured it’s a great upgrade. I still love my X1D Mark II but the IBIS and the resolution among a lot of other things make the upgrade worth every penny. I have spent two months in Nepal photographing with it and the results are incredible.

    How would you say the new X2D compares to cameras like X1D II or GFX after a few months of use? Im kinda wanting to get it but still a little unsure about the cost-performance ratio.

    • @key2adventure
      @key2adventure  Год назад

      Hi Azurian.
      X2D is an amazing camera, and I don't regret spending a lot of money on it. I have never used GFX, so I can't compare with that line of cameras. It was super stable, not a single glitch during my two months in Nepal, sometimes in very rugged conditions. And the results were amazing images some of which will show up in review/travel videos on youtube soon.
      Be aware of the few things, that X2D is missing (though some might appear in later firmware upgrades):
      1). I like to use crop modes (X-pan, 1x1, and 24x36) on my X1D ii. They don't exist so far on the X2D, but in all probability will come down the road.
      2). There is no video on X2D, which I sometimes use on the X1D as it gives really amazing background blur.
      3). There are electronic adapters for Canon EF lenses (TechArt is the one I use), that give AF on some EF lenses, and give full control over aperture on the X1D and X1D ii, but this adapter doesn't work on X2D
      4). There is no live histogram, which many had expected on the X2D, but it's not available on X1D either.
      Anyway, the main advantages of the X2D far outweigh its shorcomings. The IBIS is insanely effective, the build in 1TB SSD should be in any professional camera, the resolution is astonishing, the colors coming of this line of cameras is the best I've ever experienced, the focus is much faster than on X1D, but the main advantage here is the very high resolution of the EVF that makes manual focus far easier than on any other camera, I have tried (and down the road I have used a lot of different brands). The small top display is a great addition to this line of cameras, though I also liked the mode dial on the X1D ii, and the ability to push it down to lock it. You could even choose your custom modes directly from this button. On X2D you have to dig into the menus to change custom modes (now named custom profiles), but then there are more than the 3 modes available on the X1D.
      I still use my X1D ii a lot, as I do some video on it (for amazing medium format background blur - a video is on it's way to youtube), and as my TechArt adapter allows me to use Canon EF glass on it, and this adapter doesn't work on the X2D (also a video on the adaption of Canon EF glass is on its way to youtube). Finally, as mentioned I shoot a lot in different crop modes, most of all X-pan, and that is not implemented in the X2D - so far (another video on panoramic shooting is on its way to youtube).
      Hope this is usefull, otherwise don't hesitate to ask for more specific information.

    Går ud fra du har benyttet samme objektiv, hvilket?
    Tænker at detaljerne, når der zoomet helt ind, er lavet med x1dii i 200% og x2d i 100%? Hvis det er tilfældet, så kunne det være spændende at set samme sammenligning med en 100/50% fordeling.

    • @key2adventure

      Tak for din kommenter, og der kan være noget om det. Men så ville det være svært at sammenligne, da man så ville se motiverne i forskellig forstørrelse. Ja jeg har brugt samme objektiver til alle billeder, men det er to forskellige hhv. 45mm f4 og 90mm f3.2.

    Thanks. Not many surprises here. Exactly what I found moving from the Fuji 50S to the 100/100s. The 100 BSI sensors see fine details the 50 does not. The spines of the books are good examples of this. The leaf comparison at 3.10 makes the case for the 100 without much more needing to be said. It has yielded an almost microscopic view with exquisite colour contrast and fine details differentiated in a way the 50 sensor doesn't. Is this really an advantage ? Whether I am justifying to myself the use of a 100MP sensor for non-professional use or not there is undoubtedly an elementary joy in beholding the fine details captured in real world scenes and this is especially so when you luxuriate in big prints which are not viewed in the same way as zooming in on the screen

      Also think about how much you are able to crop in post without even being able to see, that the image wasn't shot that way originally. Or if you, like I do, publish books in larger formats the resolution adds to the crispness of the photos, as high quality book production goes beyond 360 dpi.

      @@key2adventure ~ hi there, I know what you’re saying if course. I think my general point though is that it’s a mistake to make photography (especially as a hobby which it is for most camera users) all about pixels. I’ve seen plenty of absolutely stunning photographs published in books (and also in exhibitions by Robert Cappa for instance) taken with 35mm cameras and film - which was or is a ‘miniature format’. I suppose the images would be ‘technically better’ if they’d been shot on a 100 million pixel camera, or even better shot on a 200 million pixel one. The basic formula the camera manufacturers and marketing people use is ‘More pixels = Better Photos [x More Revenue]’ but it ain’t necessarily so.

    • @key2adventure
      @key2adventure  Год назад

      @@nigellee7892 If you watched my video on panoramic images, you would know that I choose the camera that suits the situation and what I want to achieve. These cameras are everything from old APS film (Advanced Photo System) cameras to my Hasselblad X1D ii in X-pan mode. Thus, I don't necessarily go for highest megapixels, but choose according to my wishes for the final result. But when shooting a high megapixel camera like the X2D, I most often choose scenes that will benefit from the insane resolution. In my Nepal (and other) travel videos I shoot any scene with this camera, as I don't want to carry many cameras, but I don't shoot that many images, I pick my subjects.

      Thanks for your comment. Most people think the opposite of you, but I guess it's a matter of taste. I personally like both, and are not sure which one I like best. The X1D ii certainly has many things going for it, but the IBIS and high dynamic range of the X2D speaks in its favour. I have both, and I will keep both. But you are lucky as the X1D ii can be had second hand for much less than a new or almost new X2D 🙂
